When we came to the end of book one, Raising Ryan, I think we all went into shock mode as a straight forward love story it was not to be.
The story of Luke and Reese continues months later in the follow up, Resisting Ryan. Reese has no idea where Luke is and tries in vain to carry on with her life. She befriends her next door neighbour Sean, who has a bit of a soft spot for her. OK, he fancies the pants off her!

Book two stays in the present day which I’m glad to say works really well. Reese is reunited with her father and slowly lets him into her life because he has changed his life around. He regrets the way he has treated his wife and daughter and by doing this, he hopes to atone for his past sins. Luke’s father has been released from prison and sets about recruiting his son by threatening the safety of Reese. He has no choice but to join his father and his associates in the dealing of drugs and guns.

Book two definitely redeemed itself in my eyes and although I felt book one was slow and a tad boring and predictable, I loved the cliffy. However, Resisting Ryan is fast paced and action packed, and I have to admit that I loved the gritty story line with a brilliant plot to match. More characters have been introduced which has made this story so much more exciting, too. Once again we are left on tenterhooks! Will Luke make it back to Reese? Will they have their happy ever after? Will his dad leave him alone to live the life he wants with Reese?

RAISING RYANN (Bad Boy Reformed 1) By Alyssa Rae Taylor.

Raising Ryann is the first book in the Bad Boy Reformed trilogy. We all love a bad boy turned good. A modern day love story that brings with it issues of childhood abuse which I thought the author handled with the sensitivity it deserved. In all honesty, I’m not a big fan of fighter books, but I needn’t have worried as there was hardly any fighting action in this book.
The story revolves around two main characters.

Firstly, Luke Ryann, an MMA fighter who decides to give up the fighting, drinking and the women who continuously keep throwing themselves at him, just wants to get his act together and live his life. He is called upon to help out the foster parents who took him in after the death of his mother and the arrest of his father. Furthermore, he has never forgotten the girl next door, Reese Johnson.

Reese has endured an abusive childhood at the hands of her father. She works at the local gym teaching self-defence classes to children, and she also remembers the boy next door who saved her one night. Luke and Reese come together but it’s all not plain sailing and life deals them some low blows. To help keep Reese safe, Luke has to make a decision that will change both their lives.

This is a classic love story that alternates between the past and present day. Unfortunately, I felt little lost and confused because I had to flick back to the previous page in the hope I hadn’t missed anything. The two main protagonists come together through circumstance and a memory that will stay with them forever. This was a sweet love story but the beginning was a tad too slow for me. Despite this setback, there is a good cliff-hanger and my only hope is book two’s pace will pick up as I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens to these two lovely characters.

This story is about hurt, anger, trust and love. Kiera is the leading lady and has had more hurt in her life then she can take. She relies heavily on her cousin Scotty. He is her rock making sure she gets by day to day feeling safe. Scotty tries to encourage Kiera to enjoy life again but she still feels guilt over her past. Is she forever broken?

Liam hot male, MMA fighter who buries himself in fighting and meaningless sex. He has a painful past. Can he continue living like this way? He makes a lot of money using his anger in his fights. He is driven by the terrible events in his life. Is he forever broken?

Kiera and Liam meet through Scotty. It’s awkward at first as Kiera is not comfortable around strangers, especially guys. She notices Liam is hot.
Liam is drawn to the mysterious shy girl who hides most of the time in baggy tops. Eventually though slow, they build a friendship but Liam wants more, but he has to gain her trust.

Kiera begins to trust Liam and they embark on a relationship but it isn’t simple by any means as they are both haunted by their pasts and Liam harbours a secret from Kiera that ultimately could tear them apart.
There is angst and tears between the pair and surprisingly enough, although Liam is a fighter, he is sensitive at times. There are sex scenes as they embark on a relationship and they do develop strong feelings for each other.

This is a series which doesn’t finish on a cliff-hanger as such but you are left wondering where the story will take you next. The author deals with a delicate issue that affects many people sensitively. I, for one, hope Kiera and Liam manage to get past their issues and get the happiness they deserve as the series progresses.

As a lover of dark reads, I couldn’t wait to read Trust. It’s a crude, harsh read and what anyone who likes this kind of genre would expect when they one-click. However, it is advisable to read the blurb beforehand as it covers extremely delicate subjects such as abduction, rape, torture and slavery. But what I liked about this story were the really tender moments between the two protagonists. Even though the circumstances they’re both in are more than dire, and the things our hero, yes, I do say our hero because he’ll become yours, has to do, won’t stop you from connecting to these two lovely characters, She is the perfect heroine, and I really hope that he will be her knight in shining armour because these guys or going to have to go through thick and thin before she accepts the person he really is.

Gwen is happy. She has loving parents, a good-looking boyfriend she’s not one hundred percent sure of, she loves high school and participating as a cheerleader. Life couldn’t be more hunky-dory for this carefree young lady with no worries in the world. However, one seemingly insignificant decision will change her very existence forever. There will be moments when she’s on the verge of breaking down, there will be moments so stressful for the reader that you’ll have to come up for breath, moments of utter sadness, and moments of elation.

Lance is absoeffinglutely gorgeous! To say he’s sexy would be an understatement. Goodness me, he’s amazing! This man has a huge problem with a capital P though! Whether he can solve it remains to be seen in a fast moving story full of angst, hatred and a good dose of vengeance.

The ringleader for want of a better word, is influential, deceiving and despicable. Who is this man that has no heart and treats his subordinates and his own son in such a way that you’d take pleasure in strangling him with your own hands? Nevertheless, he trusts the wrong person and the only way you’re going to find out what happens is by reading the book!

The storyline is a well organised one. All the characters are so vividly described that you’re either going to love them or loath them. The sex scenes are explicitly described and I must say that the author is an expert because she really did have me glued to the book! A big plus in this dark standalone novel with a difference is without a doubt, the HEA! The only tinsy-winsy issue I had with this book was the punctuation. This book is marvellous and if it had been edited correctly, you would have made one reader ecstatically happy! Notwithstanding, I enjoyed it immensely and wouldn’t think twice about reading more by this author. Bravo Ms. Tower!

TAMED

Even though Tamed is the third book in Tangled series, there is absolutely no reason why it couldn’t be considered as a standalone. The author has taken a lot of trouble to help the reader pick up the thread of events which is a feat in itself. I, for one, wasn’t the slightest bit confused as this is well-explained from the first chapter onwards. I was also delighted by her style of writing— incredibly refreshing and it will without a doubt, have you laughing out loud! It certainly did me.

It didn’t take me long to realise that it was going to be a hard job to review without letting on either, so I’ve decided to skim the storyline which is fast moving in this unputdownable book, and concentrated more on how this romantic love story-cum comedy with a difference was written and told in first person from Matthew’s POV.

Matthew Fisher and his buddies, Drew and Alexandra Evans, and Steven Reinhart are lifelong friends. Their lives are entwined in such a way that everything they do directly or indirectly, has a repercussion of sorts on the others. Theirs is a relationship for better or worse regardless, and totally endearing for the reader. When Matthew, this abso-frinkin’-lutely gorgeous player is introduced to Dolores (Dee Warren) by Kate Brooks, his colleague in the family business and in a relationship with whom you may ask? Sorry! Not going to spill the beans; hotter than hot sparks fly between two protagonists that appear to be on the same planet! Are they? Well, all the right signals and innuendos are there for these two independent professionals but Dee has trust issues with a capital T. So the big question is; will they do their damnedest to make it work because their friends don’t seem to think so. Not only is the banter hilariously absorbing, but true colours will be shown, soft sides will be revealed, comprehension will be put to the test, and as always in this series, protectiveness will reign.

Apart from Matthew being the Alpha male you’d wish to bump into in the middle of a dark night, and how on earth the author has been able to describe to perfection the way both Drew and Matthew think, react and sum up the female peculiarities from their point of view is beyond sublime! It doesn’t offend simply because a few truths aren’t too far away from home. In this story, there isn’t just one man that will enthral you, oh no, there’s two or maybe even three! The author has put herself in the shoes of her male characters so naturally that it’s uncanny! The sex scenes are vividly described and made me wish—oh, definitely wish…

I must confess that I had a few personal issues with the star rating of this extremely well-written book? Why? Well, it certainly wasn’t because of the faultless grammar, exceptional vocabulary or the marvellous dialogue. It was simply because I couldn’t fathom out some of the American personalities and quotes she’d mentioned and had to Google them! Please excuse this English lass’s ignorance! But after reflecting on this, I realised that English authors and even reviewers when comparing, do exactly the same thing. I’m absolutely sure that our lingo, sayings and personalities also confuse the American reader.

I just loved this book and I am so looking forward to reading the fourth book in this series which is due to be published in October. Bravo Ms Chase. You certainly made me laugh, cry and swear out loud in one session!!!

***** NEW RELEASE ALERT AND THREE DAYS EARLIER THAN EXPECTED *****

FIVE STARS  (I’d give it more if possible!)

Reviewed by Traci Hyland for Kindle Friends Forever

I am going to start by saying that I am not a fan of dark reads. I don’t read them, and if something is said to be dark and I’ve read it, chances are it still had a happy ending as I’m a HEA girl so for me it’s not dark. However, D H Sidebottom is one of my all-time favourite authors and I read anything she writes. (Even if she wrote the directions to how to cook turtle soup, I’d read it.) So there was no way I was going to walk away from this and honestly, I was scared … Reading this subject matter scared the crap out of me because it’s so NOT what I read… That being said, I put on my big girl panties and went for it, and I’m so glad I did. This is absolutely in my top three best books I’ve ever read.

This book has not only ripped me apart, but my heart is also beating on the living room floor somewhere. I’ll see if I can find it later! You get a type of violence that I find difficult to read about, but you also get a love that you didn’t expect. I screamed, I cried, I threw my kindle… My heart raced, my tears flowed. Anyone who knows me and my style of reviewing/reading knows I usually hate the female lead. They almost always suck but that doesn’t mean I hate the books, it just means I always lean toward the male character in almost every book. This was not the case here. Mae is strong, intelligent, beautiful inside and out, and oh so very broken. You can’t not love her and cry with her, as well as for her. She doesn’t need your sympathy, she needs your understanding and empathy whether she realizes it or not. She needs to be loved.

Mae’s had a difficult life of loss, but one she’s accepted and simply lived until she meets Daniel whom she considers the Devil. Mae is kidnapped and thrown into a dark world of slave training. She doesn’t know her ultimate destiny is to be a slave. She thinks she has been kidnapped for the sole benefit of Daniel, the devil. Mae is determined to never stop fighting or willingly submit. The events that ensue are nothing like I have ever read before. Mae is now merchandise, a slave, property, a whore, and now… stock.

I don’t want to give too much away, but I will say that some of the twist and turns had me on the edge of my seat, and some, shocked the living hell out of me. Nothing was as I expected or anticipated it to be. When I was introduced to Daniel, I loved him, and then I hated him so so much and then… it all turns for me and I love him again! I never expected the ending and was shocked to hell. Nevertheless, I have to say it was an amazing ending which came full circle for these two and for me. I adored Daniel all the more in the epilogue. I don’t know how to express how much this book blew me away, how something I never expected to like, marked me and gave me the biggest book hangover. I am having trouble focusing on other books because it keeps popping up in my head. I felt Mae’s pain, and not just her physical pain, but emotional as well. And heaven knows she carried a lot on her plate, including things she didn’t even know she was carrying.

This book is beautifully written and the grammar and spelling are perfect.
I would recommend this book 100 times over. This book has changed my mind when it comes to dark reads. This author has given me so much in the book world, my fantasy world if you will, and hands down, I’d rather read her books 100 times over than ever turn on my television.
