DEVIANT (Blood of Roses #1) by Callie Hart

The temptingly hot cover caught our attention. But even more so was the blurb! Why it has taken so long for KFF to review this book is honestly because we’ve been waiting for the third book in this trilogy due to be released on the 12th May. This page turner was far from disappointing and if you like erotic reads full of suspense, you won’t regret reading Sloane and Zeth’s incredibly salacious saga!

There couldn’t be two protagonists with more conflicting personalities.

Sloan’s personal and professional life is seemly under control except for one thing. Someone very dear to her has been missing for too long and she’s prepared to pay whatever price to find out about this person’s whereabouts. And believe you me; what a price she has to pay!

Even though this horrendously gorgeous Alfa male is a survivor in a world so diverse from hers, their destinies clash together in an explicitly described rendezvous of such intense that it left my tongue hanging out! Obviously it doesn’t stop here! Supposedly, all is forgotten after a few years, but here enters the one person that I literally fell in love with thanks to the author’s ability to describe every small detail regarding each one of her dissimilar characters. My heart went out to Lacey. Oh, Lacey! Zeth’s protectiveness is commendable and made me connect with him more. Up to this point in the story, Sloane’s concern is profsessional; however, you will only be able to appreciate these two wonderful gals relationship if you carry on reading the follow up, Fracture.

Deviant is faultlessly written. What an abso-frigging-lutely marvellous début. To say that this first part of your saga is brilliant would be an understatement Ms Hart. Simply BRAVO!

FORTITUDE – Heart of Stone Novella by D H Sidebottom

Ava kicks arse! So when she breaks distressing news to Mason, those last three words in the pen ultimate book of the Heart of Stone series, Ferocity, left me thunderstruck! We have been taken on a turbulent ride throughout this saga filled with passionate love, lust-ridden sex, revengeful acts carried out by the notorious Rebecca who I might add, brought out the worst in me! Vendettas are explicitly described and contrast with lifelong lasting friendships. Friends became enemies and enemies became friends.

Now Ava has to tackle the biggest challenge ever. How she copes with it isn’t exactly what one would expect, but the only way she knows how to do it is by rejecting the love of her life. Although my heart was with Ava  every step of the way, I found her stubbornness and actions so irritatingly frustrating. I can honestly say that if I sobbed for her, I was agonized for Mason! Yeah, my book-lover Vickie Leaf is mine! He always seemed to put his foot in it and make matters worse, but this Alfa man’s wrongdoings are easily forgiven in a heart-rending and outstandingly written story that for me, the word perfection is an understatement.

The author helps us remember anecdotes and scenes in the series by flipping back and forth, and makes the dialogue between the main protagonists come alive. I especially liked Ava’s subtle way of correcting Mason’s adages which made me laugh out loud. We are introduced to a fantastic new character in Fortitude too, so I hope the author won’t write him off!

Ms Sidebottom! My reviews are totally unbiased. They are written to guide the reader and help them chose the genre. But how could I possibly say farewell to the Fox’s without saying a few special words to you. You are AWESOME! Not only is your style of writing captivating, but you have also managed to deal with a subject that affects many in their daily lives with an admirable sensitivity. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

This is a thriller, love story with a difference! It’s consuming, unputdownable and it’ll make you lose sleep! What I found so refreshing is the author’s style of writing. It’s jerky in places, many dialogues are short, and it abso-frigging-lutely works to a tee. Descriptive to the point that you can easily relate to the author’s main character, Karissa. However hard she’s had to struggle to scrape by with just enough money to survive uni life, this eighteen year old student thinks that the one particularly difficult subject taught by an austere professor is under control. She’s more than conscious of the fact that without a good grade, the scholarship she relies on will be put in jeopardy. I was concerned about Karissa’s gullibility which was most certainly caused by her mother always being on tenterhooks. But all said and done, at the time it made sense to me since a mother’s concern for her daughter’s welfare is the most natural thing in the world.

There was something about Ignazio Vitale that had me wondering about his intentions from the very start of the story. This man of many facets is just wow, double and triple wow! It didn’t bother me in the slightest that he is quite a bit older than Karissa because it simply felt right! Horrendously sexy, impeccably attired, charming, captivating, secretive and if I’m not careful, I’m going to run out of adjectives to describe this beast of man. Hot, hot, hot! He’s not in the slightest bit forthcoming regarding his profession which adds a hell of a lot of intrigue to a complex plot you wouldn’t expect in a book of this genre. Whether he was in the right place at the right time remains to be seen. Whether she was in the wrong place or not unfolds at a fast, gritty pace which had me spellbound not only because their erotic encounters are on the verge of brutal and extremely explicit, but also because it’s twist and turns entail issues of manipulation, obsessive love and vendetta. Will this monster of a man convert into a hero and save his heroine? Does she want to be saved by someone she is so blindly captivated by, who hides behind a wall of destruction?

This flawlessly written read made me agitated, made me smile, made me want to scream out aloud. The ending left me hungry for more, more, more! Thank you Ms Darhower for sharing your talent. I am so looking forward to the follow up of Monster in his Eyes.

STOLEN GRACE by Arianne Richmonde

I’m abso-friggin’-lutley gob-smacked! This book was gifted to me by my collaborator on KKF and I can’t thank her enough! This unconventional love story is not only thought-provoking but also so angst-ridden that at times, my nerves were on edge!

Sylvia and Tommy adopt. Their beautiful little girl who was originally from Kashmir, is old and wise beyond her years. I fell in love with her sassy back-chat and observations; her profound trust and capability of reading her parents moods, her linguistic mannerisms. Sylvia and Tommy’s marriage is in a rut! The communication lacking between them made me want to shout out aloud. “Speak to each other for God’s sake!” They don’t, so things go from bad to worse. Their dreams of building a life in rural Wyoming isn’t what they envisaged and they both have trouble adapting from their previous life in New York, where they both meet and had well-paid jobs. Now they can’t make ends meet and to top the lot, Sylvia becomes more and more suspicious of Tommy’s secretive ways. He in turn, can’t fathom out why the love of his life is treating him with the cold shoulder and giving him the silent treatment.

Dreadful circumstances snowball at such a fast pace that it leaves the reader aghast. He takes a supposedly important trip to LA and although Sylvia doesn’t know Ruth personally because they started their relationship on Facebook, she thinks it’s a good idea that she’s coming to stay while he’s away. The minute Ruth walks through their threshold, one gets the feeling she isn’t who she has made herself out to be. I wanted to strangle Sylvia for trusting this devious woman. What happens from here on,  is without a doubt, the crux of the story.

A domino effect leads from one crisis to another causing their very existence to be shredded apart, and the one thing that’s keeping their rocky marriage together has been stolen. Disappeared into thin air!

This unorthodox story brings up delicate issues such as abduction, race and religion, and is treated with the utmost discretion. The author’s protagonists’ merciful love is described splendidly. Their love for their daughter, the fight they put up under unknown conditions to regain what is theirs will take you on an emotionally rocky ride.

What can I say to Ms Richmonde? You have written one hell of a raw page-turner! Your impeccable writing, your characters’ personalities, everything about this book was faultless. Bravo!

I dove into this book with a certain amount of trepidation purely because paranormal has never called my attention. To say I was intrigued from the first line would be an understatement. It’s nothing like the author’s previous books but the style and incredible imagination she has used in a complex storyline is far from confusing and will not let readers down who like this type of book.

The characters’ personalities are unravelled at a steady pace and we get to know them one by one without becoming unduly overwhelmed. The protagonist, Simone, has been brought up in loving surroundings and is extremely responsible for her years. Even though her mum’s pregnancy worries her no-end, she is excited about having a new sibling in her life. Her best friend, Leah, who I might add, is there for her through thick and thin and just adorable, wants Simone to let her hair down but that unknown something is holding her back. Her stance not only frustrates her part-time boyfriend, Jacob, but is also badly interpreted by Amanda, the school bully! Liam’s over protectiveness of Simone causes certain issues throughout the story which only adds to the intrigue. Even though Simone is about to start a new chapter—college, her world is about to change drastically where her destiny is mapped out by uncontrollable forces. Here enters the love of her life, Shamar.

Shamar is the soul keeper. He’ll pull her very existence apart but as they have such strong feelings for each other and their mutual attraction is undeniable, will they be able to survive so many obstacles paving the way for happiness! Will she be tempted by the unscrupulous Lucas who walks on the dark side of this outstandingly well written love story?

It wouldn’t be fair if I told you more so now I’ll take this opportunity to commend Ms Dukey for having the courage to write her first paranormal novel. It has paid off! Bravo!

Please be forewarned, everything is far from black and white in this novel. There is graphic language, violence, murder, physiological and physical abuse. Please read below before purchasing.

Diounna, “Nikki” Her supressed emotional disorder is consuming her very existence. She thinks the escape route she is using to control it is her only option and will ease this internal trauma so deeply buried inside her very being. She had no idea that her sick mother knew just how mentally unbalanced she was and unbeknown to her, her mother makes a pact with a person even more mentally distraught than her only daughter. When she goes home to care for her mother, will she be capable of carrying out her beloved mother’s dying wishes? Who is this man who seems to be in the right place at the right time and so willingly offers to help her through such a stressful period in her life? Is he being completely honest regarding his intentions?

It’s as if her new neighbour, Eric Brenton, goes out of his way to mock her! He is inconsiderate, egocentric, horrendously good-looking, and their mutual attraction palpates from the very start. Eric coldly offers her quid pro quo transaction, or no go! Desperation surmises around an inexplicable story in situations that are quite unfathomable but made totally realistic by outstanding writing on the author’s part.

This book sucked into what felt like the vortex of a tornado, and I felt I had to share my opinion with you readers who like this of genre with its twist and turns in a plot which is not so much confusing, as disconcerting! Without a doubt—an exceptional read. I loved the interaction between the two main protagonists and the secondary characters are certainly beyond any expectations.

What can I say? Firstly, my absolutely favourite passage has to be this one. “People called her by a much harsher term, a word that began with a ‘c’. I’ve only encountered one person who could use the word and attach a sensual connotation to it.”  Secondly, Ms Lane… it’s unusual for me to read and write a review in twenty-four hours. My only words to you are these…don’t make me wait too long for the sequel! Since I can’t give you more, five well-earned stars are in order for a perfectly written book.

Even though they have known each other since childhood, this story isn’t about a sweetheart romance. Oh no, far from it! This is a story about a woman whose innuendos were rejected by her brother’s best friend not once, but twice. Emily knows Paul values their friendship. She knows she is his confidant when most needed, and she knows that without taking drastic measures, she will never be able to live a normal life. So what does she do? She fools him! And wait for it… she does it in such an imperfectly perfect way that the outcome is the least one would expect in a perfectly imperfect plot!

The beginning of this stand-alone novel takes us straight to a Mexican resort where we’ll meet up with the two main characters of this extremely titillating love story. It not only has an unusually intriguing scenario which one wouldn’t expect in this type of novel, it also engrosses the reader with all its twist and turns. We will also learn why the highly explicit sex scenes are so unbecoming of Emily Melone, aka Candy’s character and her compunction to overcome her lifelong obsession. This caring young woman who has lived a responsible and quiet life up until now, knows her well mapped out plan to seduce Paul Jarman could be a double-edged sword. The only way to sate her desires for this gorgeous man is by spending a night of lust with him. She spruces herself up to the nines, unscrupulously throws caution to the wind and nervously dives straight into his open arms which really had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Her courage throughout this story of deception is commendable and makes one thinks there is no possible way for a happy ending under such peculiar circumstances. The big question! Can she pull it off? And what will happen when Emily’s true colours are discovered.

Obviously problems occur! She becomes even more infatuated with him and he in turn, doesn’t believe his luck has changed. Paul is convinced his persona as a controlling Dom is enough for him. He doesn’t trust. He doesn’t do relationships. But, yes! This captivatingand horrendously sensual nymph he presumably picked up was perhaps what he needed to change his mind. He wants to see her, she wants to see him too but not on her ground. She well knows that if she does, her secret will be revealed endangering her relationship with her best friend, and she will lose the lover she never had in the first place.

This fast and provocatively sensual plot continues to thicken when Emily decides to delve into the world of BDSM. Her appetite to know more about Paul’s world was wetted in Mexico. She is convinced that regardless of their family issues and the unlikelihood that one day he can forgive her lies and deceit, won’t hamper her curiosity which is getting the better of her by the minute. When she is introduced to the intriguing master of master’s, the beguiling Andrés Chavalier, his guidance, patience and encouragement unravel her dormant passion.

I am absolutely lost for words Ms Nikki Sex. Your characters are adorable, your storyline beyond expectations, your descriptive writing excellent. Your books flows to such a point that it is simply unputdownable. Without a doubt, five stars!
