Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty—until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him—past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian’s cold, wounded heart.

Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?

I’m sure you’ve all read FSOG, FSD and FSF. Otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this review, would you? Nevertheless, for those of you that are hemming or hawing about whether or not to one-click, the essence and thoughts of one of the most desired book lovers since Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice or Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre, is in present day, Grey. I would never endeavour to compare Christian with these classic characters. Far from it; however, I’m simply stating an actual fact. James’ books took the book world by storm and broke boundaries; book virgins succumbed to her devilish penmanship which left us in awe! Us ladies thanked her for “letting the cat out of the bag” and wondered how on earth we’d managed to get by since the subject seemed to be such a taboo one. Up until, of course, her liberating first publication! By breaking down these boundaries, she’d indirectly done so many of us a huge favour. How many authors have sprung up; henceforth offering us outstanding reads? Becoming successful writers regardless of whether or not their books were or still are being self-published, simply means they have the guts to take the plunge and have enough confidence to do so. And for those few lucky authors that now have a publisher, does actually enter into the equation, because there is a before and after.

How many of you have read the above mentioned books twice, too? And I’m absolutely sure that if you did, it was just before the movie was released. Demand for Christian’s point of view was rife and the author has given us exactly what we’d asked for. So folks, this is my honest and down to earth opinion about Grey. My candid viewpoint regarding the author’s writing, too.

I would be fibbing if I didn’t admit to having doubts about Grey’s stance in the first half of the book. Only my buddy reader’s advice who was one step ahead of me, seemed to slow and calm me down, make me savour this read more. Text messages flew quicker than you can say Bob’s your uncle and I am forever grateful for her patience. I can honestly say that this read is a fan-freakin’-tastic one, and I really did enjoy it more than the first three books. It’s more refined, more polished and the more I advanced, the more I loved it. Mundane chores were literally put on standby. And all these goings on were pm’d to Rachel. Forever unbiased regarding books.

Christian. Humph! He does repeat himself a tad but I really think he’s trying to convince himself that his relationship with Anastasia, for want of a better word, could work. He suffers so damn much that you have to have a heart made of stone for his feelings not to affect you.

Christian: ~ “Oh baby, don’t give up on me. Give it a try.”

In fact, I wasn’t so worried about Ana as she was always given a choice. She wants what he can’t give her, he wants what she can’t give him. And here we have a catch twenty-two situation. What I adored more than anything was the spunky banter between the two of them. At times, the emails fly between them like grease lightening; Ana always revealing her innermost feelings. Since confessing them face to face with Christian could perhaps be the cause for his ire, she’s wisely treads softly by texting him. Softly but with humour and innuendos that left me grinning from ear to ear.

Ana: ~ “I don’t remember reading about nipple clamps in the Bible. Perhaps you were taught from a modern translation.”

She is a dilemma. She is like nothing he has ever encountered and his confusion is therefore ten-fold. Although he wants her absolute submission, it takes time for him to admit to himself that just maybe Ana won’t be that woman. You know his wants are to say the least, “particular”. Nevertheless, when the crux of the matter is presented on a silver plate, he oversteps the mark resulting in an omnishambles because deep down, he thought she was his to have.

Christian ~ “Anastasia, you should steer clear of me. I’m not the man for you.”

The author’s descriptive writing is nothing less than awesome. Her characters’ personalities come alive so much more than in her previous books. And to say all their physical appearances are vividly portrayed would be putting it mildly. I didn’t see Jamie or Dakota either. I saw Christian and Anastasia.

Christian: ~ “Do I dare to hope ? Damn it. Yes, I do.”

Two beautiful people trying their hardest to reach each other’s souls; reach a happy medium. Now then, the bedroom scenes! Did I say bedroom? Well, they may not be doing what two lovers do in the most conventional of places but that is neither here nor there as they are hot, hot, scorching hot and I can’t remember getting my knickers in such a twist in FSOG? No…I truly can’t! And below is our reaction after reading the last two lines in Grey.

Sharon texting Rachel: Noooooooooo! No, no, no. Cursing in English, Spanish, French. Shitte! Mierda, Merde. She can’t leave it like this. Okay, my ratings gone up ’cause the ending was so flabbergasting; frustrating! 4.5.

Rachel texting Sharon: Just say it!! FUCK noooooooooooooo, there; that’s how I felt, can’t hold back.

(Smiley winking at me which I could have gladly punched in the face!)

Sharon texting Rachel: Double fuck!

Rachel texting Sharon: She has to write Darker from his POV! Be fab as Leila comes into that one.

Sharon texting Rachel: Thank god for that! Yeah, she’s been very canny with the ending.

The reason I got myself so wound up towards the finale; and I do admit to loving an ending that makes me want to vent my frustrations, was the unexpected cliffy. “Unexpected you say?” “But we all know the story!” I hadn’t, for one minute, done my calculations correctly. Finishing where it did and how it did, knocked me backwards. That last three-quarters of an hour’s read sold me! I liked Grey beyond words Ms. James. So one word from a humble reviewer who was itching to get her thoughts on paper as soon as she’d finished texting her buddy reader… BRAVO!

Fav quote.

Anna: ~ “So you’re not going to punish me?”
Christian: ~ ” No. I’m an in the moment kind of guy.”

I’m a former TV executive, wife and mother-of-two based in the leafy suburbs of West London. Since January 2012 my life has taken an extraordinary turn with the runaway success of the Fifty Shades Trilogy. From an early age I had always dreamt of writing stories that readers would fall in love with – and my dreams have come true, thanks to you guys. Now that life seems to have settled down a little, I want to crack on and write my next novel – another adult, provocative romance. I do hope you will enjoy that too.

Thank you for all your support. It has meant the world to me. If any one were to ask me for my thoughts about this whole experience, I would say: life is not a dress rehearsal – seize the day and follow your dreams. I wish you the best of luck.

☠ ☠ LOCK & KEY / RANDOM & RARE ☠ ☠ KFF interview DIG and the author of this series,                                         CAT PORTER

We hope you’ll enjoy reading our interview of someone who is so very special to us; DIG. Even though there are a hell of a lot of good reads out there, author Cat Porter, has conveyed her protagonist in a such a light that our opinion regarding MC reads has been swayed completely. Not only that, we’re going to interview her too! And to say we are itching to get our hands on ‘Iron and Bone’ would be putting it mildly.

☠ Now let’s get down to the nitty-gritty! ☠

☠ Dig. What makes a good old lady? ☠

A good old lady is a woman you can trust to have your back, and I mean physically as well as emotionally. She knows what you need without you having to ask, and she doesn’t push you.  She can take care of shit on the home front while you’re out getting business done on the road.  A good old lady is committed to what’s best for the club too. She always puts that into consideration in every decision she makes. But at the end of the day, your woman is your rock through the good times and all the crap. And trust me, there’s plenty of crap.

Did you think Grace had what it took to make an old lady when you first set eyes on her? ☠

When I first set eyes on Grace, I never considered her to be a possible old lady. In the beginning she was like an ice cream popsicle on a hot summer’s day. She was a refreshing dream. A dream of what could have been, might have been for me once upon a time. At first, I really didn’t see us together. She belonged to the “real world,” not my shadowy one. I couldn’t see how it could work, and, anyhow, I felt it wouldn’t be right for her. I didn’t want to take anything away from her or dull her shine, taint her clean.

Did you think there would be fallout for Ruby taking the fall for the club? ☠

I really thought Ruby taking the fall would solve a lot of problems on many fronts. So much for that. I certainly didn’t expect it to forever change my life, that’s for sure.

☠ Did your nightmares get any better when you met Grace? ☠

Yeah, they did. They came less frequently, and I did manage to get more sleep after Grace and I got together. That part of me that was always running on empty, finally relaxed, but I couldn’t let go 100%.

☠ How did the tension in the club affect your relationship with Grace? ☠

I was pulled in a million directions, juggling the political crap, and trying to pursue my ideas to keep business moving forward. Maintaining order and defending the club were my responsibility as Sergeant at Arms. All that was mighty time consuming and never let up. And being in an intense relationship is very consuming too, but in a good way, a much better way. Frankly, for me it was a totally unexpected way, never having been in a real relationship before! But yeah, I was torn most of the time trying to balance all those fucking spinning dishes.

☠ Did you ever feel guilty about bringing Grace into the club knowing what life she could have chosen? ☠

Not in the beginning. After I realized what she’d been dealing with at home on her own, I was done with being the white knight, the responsible guy. It was bullshit, and I wanted her bad and she wanted me. We made a crazy kind of sense every time I was with her, every time I touched her. It felt good, right, and we were good together. But I regretted it every time things got out of control, really badly out of control between clubs. Not to mention when Wreck got killed. That was a turning point for me, the lowest of the low. Everything turned into quicksand for me then. Even holding on to Grace. I tried to shut her out for a long time after that. Felt it was all pointless. She needed a life in the light, the life she expected, the one she’d been striving for so hard before she and I hooked up. At that point, I felt that I had taken that away from her, and it drained me.

☠ Do you regret leaving Grace with such a responsibility? ☠

You mean with Vig and his freaking diamond stash? Of course I do. That was the kind of shit I’d been trying to avoid for her all along, and then look what happened. I mean, I died, and still I was bringing her down. That’s just insane. On the other hand, the aftermath of me not having had the opportunity to make it to Nebraska as I’d planned in order to iron things out with the Blades and the Flames, made things crazy for the Jacks. Battles broke out for years until Jump took the Presidency, got a handle on it, and things finally cooled down. So actually, I’m glad Vig forced her out of South Dakota and away from the club, all the clubs. Ironic, huh? He had promised me he’d look out for her if anything happened to me. I guess in a twisted way, the motherfucker did just that, but still getting what he wanted, of course.

My biggest regret though, is that our kid died along with Grace ever being able to have another baby. That’s the biggest tragedy, and that suffering is on me. I can barely still wrap my head around that one. Next question.

☠ Did you ever envisage your life with Grace would be cut short because of the life you led? ☠

Every moment of every day.

Are you happy with Grace’s choice of husband? ☠

For starters, I’m sorry that it took her sixteen years to let someone in again, to find someone she could be herself with. But the fact that it’s Lock makes me happy. Makes me feel that even though things turned out shit for me, it gave them a new lease on life, a better life. Both of them were thrown to the wayside by shit at the club, got twisted into other people. They needed each other. Grace and Lock are good kind-hearted souls. That they were able to find each other after all this time and get untwisted, gives me peace. It means that all this, all of it, in some way, wasn’t for nothing. (Wreck is glad for them too. Yeah, he had a good laugh over it, in fact.)

☠ Do you think anything would have happened between Butler and Grace if you hadn’t sent him away? ☠

No, I don’t, but I think it would have been a constant source of tension between all of us, which would’ve been hell. So it was a very good thing he left. It gave us time to cool down and get back to basics with each other. It also gave Butler a kick in the ass, and he finally got serious about his place in the club after that. Once he let go of fucking around with his life, he focused. That made us able to be friends again, trust each other, work together. We were brothers, after all.

☠ You and Tania had a silent understanding but she irritated you. Why? ☠

I knew Tania wanted better for Grace than me. Both of them had big dreams while they were growing up in this tiny town. Tania felt that Grace was giving up a bright all-American future by choosing me, the biker with only good times, drug deals, countless felonies, and a strip club to his (fake) name. She just didn’t want her best friend to get hurt, to be disappointed. Tania was right, and I knew she was right. She knew I knew, too. But at least she knew that I really did love Grace. There was never any bullshit about that. Tania’s very smart and tells it like it is, no filter. It made me crazy because a part of me worried that maybe Grace would realize that it all a big mistake and walk out on me.

☠ Boner always had your back. If he hadn’t been around when he was most needed, who else would you have trusted completely to watch Grace’s back? ☠

Wreck was the only other brother I trusted the way I trusted Boner. No one else. Not in that absolute way.

☠ If you’d had longer with Grace, what, if anything, would you have changed?☠

I would have made sure we spent more time together. Just the two of us. And we would’ve had our kid, too. Yeah, definitely more time together. The three of us. Our family.

☠ If you hadn’t joined the MC, which direction do you think your life would

have taken? ☠

Oh, I would’ve been dead. Ha.

CAT PORTER interview

KFF to Cat: This is a difficult question to answer for us bloggers ‘cause I’m sure that more than one of us are considered to be frustrated writers. Why did you start to decide writing?

I’ve been writing since I was a little girl. Journaling always helped me make sense of my emotions and the world around me. Being an introverted only child, I was overly sensitive, and writing not only helped me, but became something I needed to do to feel balanced. I was always writing short stories and poems too. I remember in high school I wrote a poem about a dead older brother, and everyone thought it was true. That was rather swell. Also, being a trained actor, you realize the power of the written word is paramount. It’s everything. Studying Shakespeare in high school and then later “playing” Shakespeare opened up a huge fascinating world of the power and color of words for me.

KFF to Cat: We all have our favourite authors, but we’d love to know which author inspired you to put pen to paper.

I’ve always been an avid reader, from the Scholastic books we’d order at elementary school, to when I first dove into Nancy Drews and my aunt’s stash of romance novels every summer. I loved getting lost in a different world and being inside another person’s head. I started reading the classics at ten years old. “Wuthering Heights,” “Pride & Prejudice,” “Jane Eyre,” and “Vanity Fair” were my firsts, and although I didn’t understand half the language and the many subtleties, I was swept away into a whole new universe of characters, dramatic events, intriguing settings, and intense emotions. It was truly thrilling! Later I discovered D.H. Lawrence, E.M. Forster, Lawrence Durrell, James Joyce, Paul Scott, and the free-form hipster madness of Henry Miller. Writing a novel one day was always in my heart of hearts.

KFF to Cat: Why MC?

I’d read several MC books and I became fascinated by the idea of an old lady returning to a club. A seasoned woman who knew the score, not the usual heroine- the young thing who is taken aback by the MC lifestyle and the Alpha men. That got boring real quick for me. I kept seeing this older woman, defiant, hiding some sort of secret returning to the club against her wishes. The genre was totally new to me, but the few I had read at the time, I liked a lot. The “living on the fringe” culture greatly appealed to me and scared me in a way, because it was the complete opposite of how I grew up and everything I was familiar with!

KFF to Cat: It is more than obvious that you have done your homework regarding MC research, their culture, women, even their transport. How did you go about it?

I read an autobiography written by a former officer of an outlaw club in the midwest in the 80’s which provided details to me of a biker’s commitment to the lifestyle and the daily dangers and the harshness inherent to it. It wasn’t pretty. I also read whatever I could get my hands on online from reporters who had gone undercover in bike clubs in the 70’s to get a feeling for the classic bike club. That’s what interested me, the original, true spirit of a motorcycle club and the people who were committed to the lifestyle. I watched endless videos on YouTube of events, and videos of people riding bikes through the Dakotas. It was amazing stuff. I also met an old lady online who was very generous in answering my questions and filling in the many blanks I had.

KFF to Cat: Just love to know which book has influenced you more in your life? (Must answer!)

I took this fantastic class in high school called “The Search for Self” where we read Dostoyevsky, Joseph Conrad, Thomas Hardy, to name a few, plus the poetry of Rilke and Cavafy. The anguish, darkness, and intelligence of those writers blew my sixteen-year old mind away and opened my eyes and soul. Later on I discovered the vampire books of Anne Rice, and her passion and romanticism along with the macabre made me crazy. I love those books, I couldn’t put them down!

KFF to Cat: We’d love to know what is on you TBR list. Can you let on?

A lot of indie classics that I have yet to read! Colleen Hoover’s “Slammed,” J.R. Redmerski’s “Edge of Never,” Lorelei James’s Rough Riders series, the “Outlander” books, Melissa Brown’s “Wife Number Seven,” Jojo Moyes’s “Me Before You,” Madeline Sheehan’s “Thicker Than Blood,” Callie Hart’s “Deviant” series, LB Simmons’ books, JB Hartnett’s “Bride in Bloom,” Jay Crownover’s “Marked Men” series, Daryl Banner’s “Beautiful Dead” series, Amy Harmon’s “Law of Moses” and “Making Faces,” L.H. Cosway’s “Six of Hearts” series, Paullina Simons “The Bronze Horseman,” and Patti Smith’s autobiography “Just Kids” to name a few. Oh boy.

KFF to Cat: How often do you write? All and every day or whenever you can?

Every day. I come home from dropping the kids off at school at 8:30 am and I write until 1pm when I cook for them and then pick them up. Then I go back to work around 5pm and keep on until after 11pm. On the weekends I don’t have such a structured schedule, but I still fit in several hours each day. Otherwise I go cookoo. Literally.

KFF to Cat: This question is of utmost importance to KFF. Do you brainstorm your ideas, let them stew for ages or go with the flow?

With “Lock & Key” and “Wolfsgate” (my historical) I let it flow. I didn’t have any publishing or promotion deadlines to deal with then, so I wrote and discovered as I went. Now I need to be more organized, so in the beginning I brainstorm to get a very general outline of events and character arcs in place. I always have a specific beginning, middle, and end when I begin, but everything in between is a surprise as I go along. The characters surprise me always and new connections happen, which is very exciting. After the first draft is finally done, that’s when the big work begins for me. That’s when I let it stew, and I see all the places that need moulding and sharpening, along with listening to my beta readers’ helpful feedback. Revising is a huge, vital process for me. A lot of magic happens there, and I need time to do it.

KFF to Cat: You must read a lot. Which authors would you recommend to the readers of your books?

I really enjoy Shay Savage, Kristen Ashley’s earlier work, CD Reiss, Leylah Attar, and Lorelei James. A huge favorite of mine is Sigrid Undset’s Nobel Prize winning Kristen Lavransdatter series, an epic saga of one’s girl’s life from young womanhood through first love, marriage, etc., set in medieval Scandinavia.

KFF to Cat: Your book covers are awesome. Who did them and would you mention the artist that did them in your next Cover Reveal?

Oh, thank you. I always talk about my brilliant cover artist, Najla Qamber of Najla Qamber Designs! We’ve collaborated on all my books, and we’re about to start work on “Iron & Bone,” book 3 of the Lock & Key series. Najla amazes me each and every time in how she takes a “rambly” idea I have and then translates it into this magic vision which is ultimately even more than I had imagined. She always hits it perfectly in a fresh, unexpected way, and she “gets” me. I must admit I get that “buzzy” feeling each time. I love that buzzy feeling.

KFF to Cat: Are you happy about the outcome of the reviews you’ve had up to date?

I’m humbled and very appreciative that readers take the time to write a review. I’m thrilled that reviewers responded so positively to my characters and their journeys, and most of all to my writing. That’s huge for me. Of course, there are negative reviews, I mean you can’t expect everyone to like the same book. Everyone has different tastes, and readers nowadays have specific expectations that you can’t possibly expect to meet each and every time. Many have written to me saying my mc books surprised them, not being typical of the genre. Most people love that about the books, and the older characters I feature too, and others don’t like it. That’s okay, that’s reality.

KFF to Cat: Constructive criticism. How much importance do you give to this and would you dare to wipe out a whole chapter because your beta-readers didn’t feel it went with the flow of the book?

Beta readers are integral to the process of creating a novel. By the time I’ve spit out the first draft and then cleaned it up, I’m too far in the thing to be objective, and frankly I’m in a daze as well. I rely on unsugar-coated appraisal to make the story work, because it has to work. Oftentimes the betas vocalize my inner critic too, which I sometimes try to ignore. So, it’s terrific, because I can’t ignore the little problems or sweep them under the rug when the betas are pointing them out too!

With R&R, I had one beta reader who sat me down and told me I had rushed a very important section in the book, and it only made her roll her eyes, and she had felt cheated. The others had alluded to it, but this reader was adamant. I agreed with her. I sat down and re-wrote a huge chunk, coming up with new ideas in the process, and ended up giving a minor character a much more pivotal role. In the end I had two new chapters and was able to move the storyline forward in a much more natural way, while also preparing the way for book 3.

KKF to Cat: Editing process. Is it perfect?

Different editors have different things they respond to, notice, or obsess over, you could call it. I’ve learned a lot from each editor I’ve worked with. For me the process is not just a matter of agreeing to all the editors’ corrections and moving on to formatting. No way. It’s a time to not only clean up your text, but clarify your themes. And you should always trust your editor, by the way! It’s terrific to work with someone you can communicate with, debate certain issues that come up, ask them specific questions. I’m very analytical and I like to dig deep, so the editing process is a very satisfying and exciting time for me, and I don’t like to rush it.

KFF to Cat: What do you think about the ratings on Goodreads and Amazon and if you could, would you change it?

Whatever Amazon does remains a mystery to me. Their secret algorithms and the thousand reasons books place on their charts according to the keyword system, etc. fascinates me. Now things have gotten more interesting and more complicated, I think, with the Kindle Unlimited program. I choose to have all my books available on all platforms, I don’t understand limiting yourself to one. I don’t know how that affects one’s Amazon ratings overall, but I’m sure it does. Goodreads is a great forum for readers to share the book love, but sometimes people put a heck of a lot of effort into ridiculing books they don’t enjoy with these long, sarcastic gif-ridden essays. I find that most unfortunate and hurtful in the long run. I think Goodreads has a secret algorithm recipe for its ratings too, right? At the end of the day, an author can’t get caught up in all this, or you go crazy.

KFF to Cat: What would you do to better your writing?

I’m always studying and working to improve my skills. It’s a never-ending process and one I enjoy.

KFF to Cat: Formatting! Who said that? How do you go about it?

I pay a professional. I could do it, and I would love to be able to have it at my fingertips, because when I do find errors or typos later on after publication, I feel terrible having to ask my formatter to make the time to make the corrections and then sometimes have to pay extra to do so. But for me right now, it’s too much time and energy to learn the ins and outs. I need to give the most I can to my writing and my three children!

KFF to Cat: Proofreading is considered an art. How much importance do you give it?

It’s very important. I used to think I could do it myself, and I would re-read my text over and over again before my formatting deadline and find things. But it’s amazing the things you miss! You definitely need an objective, fresh-eyed outsider to do the job properly. (And I’m always tweaking bits and pieces up to the eleventh hour, which is asking for trouble with typos!)

KFF to Cat: Rach and I were talking about your protagonists in this series lately. We envisaged them… vividly. Why not do a trailer to promote your book/s?

That’s wonderful to hear, thank you. I do have trailers for both books in the “Lock & Key” series, my dears! Both trailers were produced by the marvelous Angel Dust. It was a lot of fun working together to make my beloved stories come alive. Here are the links:

KFF to Cat: Which author have you never met, but you’d like to?

There are several: Dostoyevsky, Henry Miller, Laurence Durrell, D.H. Lawrence, Edgar Allen Poe, Emily Brontë

KFF to Cat: MC versus eroticism or suspense, which genre would you choose first!

I really love Eroticism when it’s done with a compelling story and intriguing layered characters to match the heat.

KFF can’t thank Cat Porter enough for these two outstandingly candid interviews. Rachel and I have read both books; loved ’em, and awarded  R & R  5 bedazzling stars. L & K, which ‘in our book’ is five star material, could even be read as a standalone; however, we highly recommend you to follow this series in order as it’ll beat the pants off you! You don’t need to be a lover of MC stories to thoroughly enjoy this series either. Covers and buy links below, and as Cat would love to hear from you, we’ve even added her social media links.

Few clues in the disappearance of Nora Gilbert

Nora Gilbert has been missing for two weeks and police are baffled over the lack of evidence. Nora disappeared from a very busy part of town well before dark. Many people were at Waverly Park at the time she went missing, yet eyewitnesses are few.

One eyewitness claims to have seen Nora at the southern entrance to the park near the wooded picnic area. However, the lack of forensic evidence leaves the police with little to go on.

She was expecting to meet her friend, Maren Laughlin around 7:45. Police want to speak with Maren about the night in question and are appealing for her to contact them as soon as possible.

Nora has several identifying marks including a recent tattoo of a red and black infinity on top of her left foot like the one below. The skin is still red and swollen and was covered with a bandage when she left home.

Our family is looking for any and all information. If you believe you saw something on the night in question, please contact the Blackfield Police Department- 555- 6677

They say hate is the closest emotion to love. Will the fiery redhead win over the U.S. Marshal and submit to his darkest desires? Or will her deep sexual cravings surprise even him.

✦✦ KFF’s 5 ★ Review by Tracey Lou Parker✦✦

Again I was looking forward to delving into the mind of poet and author, Ethan Radcliff, and more so as this would be the first full-length novel of his that I was about to read.

This story depicts the life of a U.S. Marshal and a former New York City police officer, Dominic Esposito, and the lady in his life, Shauna Maloney. As a U.S marshal, many of his duties include being responsible for prisoner transport, the protection of officers of the court, and the marshal’s service which runs the witness protection program.

Dominic Esposito is forty-five years old, born to an Italian mother and father and lives for his job. As a young child, he had always wanted to be a cop. He believed in justice, respect and a code of honour. The perfect requirements for the job he does.

One ex-wife who after twenty years, decided she wanted out. He’s spent years putting his own feelings aside making his wife happy; to give his son a stable home. Now his son is old enough, it’s time for him to move on and explore.

Shauna Maloney is beautiful. This sexy redhead owns her own dress shop; is totally open about her sexual appetite, her kinkiness. She’s helping Dominic explore a side of himself that he had always known was there but was afraid to act upon. Shauna is a submissive and Dominic has a dominant nature, so their two worlds would collide perfectly.

Throughout this book, Dominic is involved in two cases. One babysitting a gangster called Charlie who is giving evidence and needing protection.
The second case shows you how Dominic’s mind works as a profiler. Gathering evidence and witness testimony to determine a behaviour pattern, as well as developing a physiological portrait of the perpetrator is what he loves doing best. Yes, I confess to being a fan of Criminal Minds!
Dominic’s natural instinct for this was spot on and the criminal involved was eventually apprehended but not without consequences.

There is a part of this book that I haven’t gone into too much detail about. This involves the wellbeing of Shauna whose safety has been compromised by a gentleman that has taken a liking to her. As a reviewer, I like to leave something for the reader. But be aware… the twist and turns of this book will keep you entranced from beginning to end.

Ethan Radcliff. A full length novel, in my opinion, will bring out the best in an author. You didn’t disappoint. Your story flows well, the subject of BDSM; perfectly inserted. You have shown me that you are more than knowledgeable about law enforcement which comes across perfectly. Thank you for a most enjoyable read. I look forward to reading more of your works. Five well-deserved stars .

” I suppose you’re going to turn me over your knee and spank me?” He could see the fire in her eyes and he was aware that her statement was a challenge.

“Are you putting ideas in my head?” he said running his hand down her slender throat to the top of her full breast. “Stop trying to get involved in the case I’m working on. I told you this case is definitely off limits. You never listen.”

“Did it ever occur to you that maybe I could be of some help to you?”

“Do you want to help me?” His voice was low and sadistic. One of his hands cupped her breast, she gasped. His thumb rubbed the nipple though the flimsy bra she wore. “You know what I like,” he said moving his body in on hers. “You’re fine Shauna, the best piece of ass I’ve ever had, but this relationship has boundaries and that boundary is my job. Do you understand?”

“Fuck you, Esposito,” she whispered.

He was fast and strong. She was over his knees in record time. One hand held her down and the other tore at her panties. Before she could protest, his large strong hand came down on the cheeks of her ass. Whack!

“Ouch! I was kidding you bastard!” she screamed.

“I’m not,” he said as he grinned and felt the blood rush down to the base of his cock. “In fact I’m rather enjoying this.” His hand came down hard again.

“Ouch!” she screamed again. “Stop, Dominic stop.”

“First tell me you’re going to stay out of my business. You knew I was a U.S. Marshal when we met. I read you the riot act. Yet you defy me at every turn.”

He ran his other hand over the red marks on her cheeks. She moaned. His fingers massaged her gently and then found the crevice to her pussy. She moaned again.

“Oh, shit Dominic, oh shit,” she said as two of his finger entered her. She raised her ass and his fingers pushed into her deeper. He bent his head and kissed the red marks his hands had left. She spread her legs.

✦✦Ethan Radcliff✦✦

Ethan Radcliff has been writing stories since he was a kid. He loves creating and tried his hand at art, but felt he wasn’t good enough. Through high school he wrote erotic stories,

kept them in a notebook and let a few of his girlfriends read them. He then began writing poetry, which he kept to himself, because most of his poems were based on erotica. His brain never stopped. He became serious about writing erotic romance stories a few years ago and wondered how hard it would be to break through the barrier as a male erotic romance writer.

He delved into the world of BDSM and took a personal journey through the lifestyle, which aided in his writing.

He’d been a face book user for years. He never saw anything interesting until he began to see all the writers and then some poets posting their erotic prose. Men who were writing erotic romance began to crop up. He watched and then began to post a few poems here and there. The response was good and then better. He was being noticed.

He can see a picture and write a poem. He can see an attractive women and conger up a sexy scenario. The jiggle of a full ass or heavy breasts can get him going. His mind is always is on an attractive face or body.

His thanks go out to Bitten Press LLC and the two lovely women who run it, for goading him on, telling him to go for it and he did.

His first short story is The Taming of Molly Jenkins. It’s hot. Is it based on personal experience? All he can answer is, perhaps. The next short story is The Wait, Britt’s undoing. There will be more. He has a paranormal erotic romance series, Desires of Blood which at the moment is six books strong. Stay tuned for some historical, contemporary and fantasy erotica from him. Yes, and he will continue with some great stories including some BDSM adventures. He has one book of erotic poetry published; it has been an amazing success.

Follow Ethan Radcliff as he continues to entertain you. He can write any genre and intends to broaden his scope as an author in 2015.

His thanks go out to all his readers. Without them he’d be still be writing notes in his composition notebook, waiting for that right moment. You made it happen for him.

And Rake’s made it clear that his biker brothers are trouble of the worst kind, and strictly off-limits. But one of these tattooed bad boys has already pierced her heart: Arrow, the bearded, darkly brooding rider with the body of a Greek God and eyes that betray a wounded soul. He’s sent to whisk her off campus on his thundering steel stallion. And when Anna wraps her arms around his rock-hard torso, it’s too late for caution: she’ll ride as far as the road takes them—unless Rake stops Arrow in his flight. . . .

KFF’s 4.5 ★ review by Claire Rose

Let’s start by saying I just loved Dragon’s Lair. Therefore, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this novel, and was over the moon to be given the opportunity to receive and review this ARC. The events in this book have taken place five years after Dragon’s Lair, so please read book one.

Chantal has written a fantastic story that pulls on your heartstrings. The characters in this novel are all about family, caring, loving, and most importantly, always have each other’s back. There doesn’t come a time where you don’t feel the love flowing through this book, and I found myself smiling or laughing at many points in this read.

The prologue starts us off with Arrow having a serious think about what’s happened in his life. So he is trying to drown his sorrows with a bottle of whiskey. In walks his MC brother and his baby sister. Instantly Arrow is having feelings for the young Anna; feelings he doesn’t want. My poor darling Arrow! He is a strong, sexy, dominant, and a fun loving male who is fighting his demons while at the same time, fighting his attraction for Anna. Until events occur putting Anna in danger and placing her at the protection of the club house. Arrow decides to stop pushing Anna away; however, he ends up hurting her with the quilt of the past. And Janet is trying her hardest to cause a few problems for the both of them which doesn’t help matters. With secrets that only he knows, will he lose the one woman for him? Can he hold on, or will he succumb to the darkness again?

Anna! What a strong, feisty, independent young woman. She knows who she wants, what she wants, and can’t stand being told what to do. She’s brought into the MC world when she moves back home to her brother who belongs to the Wind Dragons MC. While trying to accept her new MC family, her brother’s relationship with the other members of the club is causing jealous emotions hard to control. She’s also fighting her strong feelings for Arrow. Looking into his eyes, she can see the lust he has for her, so why is he pushing her away… hurting her? When she overhears her brother’s and Arrow’s conversation, suddenly she feels very confused. She realises that there are secrets being kept from her. Hurt replaces the love she has, so she does the one thing she said she would never do. She runs! She runs to the somebody who holds all the answers. Answers that make her more confused, hurt, shocked and angry. I say confused because she doesn’t know what to think or feel. All Anna wanted was to finish college, rebuild her relationship with her brother and maybe fall in love. Can these two characters overcome everything? Can they put the past behind them and move forward? Read it and find out!

I loved all characters in this novel, and I do have to say that Chantal has developed Anna’s character to perfection. I loved the way she stands up for herself and won’t take any rubbish from anyone. The story is written well throughout; nevertheless, I felt that it was a little too rushed towards the end. I would have liked more detail about what happened to Janet. So for this reason, I’ve rated the book four and half stars.

Meet Flynn and Lucky in this rock star romance!

From New York Times and USA Today Bestseller Vi Keeland comes a steamy new story about a rockstar. Or two.

Dimpled smile of a boy
Hard body of a man
Sings like an angel
Fucks like the devil

I was stuck between a rock(star) and a hard place.

At fifteen, his poster hung on my bedroom wall. At twenty-five his body hovered over mine. Every girl’s fantasy became my reality. I was dating a rockstar. Yet I was slowly falling for another man. The problem was—the two men—they shared a tour bus.

Flynn Beckham was the opening act.
Dylan Ryder was the headliner.

What happens when the opening act begins to shine so bright, it seems to dim everything else in its wake?

I’ll tell you what happens. Things get ugly.

Getting through Flynn singing is incredibly hard.  The way his throat moves, the way his mouth caresses each syllable of the low, raspy sound that falls from his lips.  I should be watching his posture, his breathing, the way his larynx forces out the words—but instead I’m focused on the beauty of his mouth and how the sound of his voice glides over my body, making it feel both warm and tingly at the same time.  I’m lost when the song finishes, yet I haven’t really observed him yet.

“So.  Give it to me straight.  What am I doing wrong?”

Ummm…absolutely nothing from what I can see.  Everything was perfect.  Don’t change a thing.  Shit.  “Could you do it again?  Maybe a different song, one you haven’t sung in a while.  So the sounds are less familiar to your body.  Sometimes that can give me a different view.”  At least I make it sound like a real thing when the words come out.

He sings again, and this time I force myself to observe.  “Hmm…your posture is great.  Most people have a tendency to favor one side of their neck, which makes them tilt a bit when they speak, and it becomes magnified when they sing, which puts strain on the muscles around the vocal cords.  Your alignment is perfect.”

“Thank you, it goes with the rest of my perfectness,” he says with a teasing arrogance that, from the little I know about him, I know isn’t real.

“You didn’t let me finish.”

“You can’t now tell me I’m not perfect.  I was already basking in the glow.”

“Actually, it was perfect…but almost a little too perfect.  Which makes me think you don’t usually stand this way when you sing.”

“It isn’t the way I normally sing.  On stage, I usually have a guitar over my shoulder.  Even if I’m not playing it, it’s there.”

“Well, I need to see you holding your instrument to assess you fully, then.”

Flynn’s eyebrows quirk up and the dirty grin on his face is unmistakable.

“The guitar.  I’d need to see you holding the guitar.

“That’s a shame.”  He shrugs, the playful smile still on his face.  “But okay.  It’s your call.  Whatever instrument you want to see me hold is fine with me.”

“How big of you.”

“So now we’re talking about the other instrument again?”

I roll my eyes, although this conversation is having more of an effect on me than I let on.

BEAT TEASER 5  beat teaser new

Reviewed by Rachel McEwan and Sharon Thérèse Nuttall for KFF

One might have their doubts about an issue which will be the backbone of this story; however, it exists and has been written in such a way that neither of us were in the slightest bit affected or concerned about it. In fact, the storyline and character development is so strong that this was an unputdownable read. We both put a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door knob, abandoned all mundane chores, and threatened our families with no meals!

Lucky : ‘’He doesn’t leer. He appreciates. As if he’s looking at fine art that should be cherished.’’

The above quote has to be one of our favourites! Only we would definitely leer at Flynn Beckham then cherish; in that order. We loved Flynn’s personality in this book. We have to point out though that this read isn’t your typical bad boy rocker with a mouth that has no filter. Oh no, we get to see Flynn’s sensitive and caring side. Not only does Lucky experience this side of his personality, but she’s also introduced to Flynn’s niece, Laney who like us, adores her Uncle Flynn. Laney loves the Disney film, Frozen so much so that Flynn sings one of the songs from the film to Lucky and wow, we think that’s the moment we truly fell in love with him. We really didn’t think the combination of the lyrics to a Frozen song and a rocker book could quite be pulled off but Ms Keeland, you most certainly did !

What first caught our attention was the banter between Lucky and Avery who have been best friends forever. And even though they run a very successful business together, Avery isn’t at all enamoured with her bestie’s choice of boyfriend and with no holds barred, tells her what a douchebag he is. We just loved Avery’s honesty and the way she made it clear to Dylan Ryder, the lead singer in the band, Easy Ryder, what she thought of him, too. Well, he doesn’t care much for her either, so no love is lost there! What was a school girl crush for Lucky has been a reality for nearly a year. We never thought that it was façade, we never thought twice about whether false pretences or bad intentions were morally questionable. All these facets only seemed to make this read even more interesting. Nevertheless, when you read about their relationship, we’re sure your queries will abound.

Avery: ‘’That man wants you. Pretty sure you wouldn’t have to straddle the speaker. He’d bury his head and sing right into your vajajay if you wanted. I totally vote you upgrade in the rockstar category……’’

When one of the musicians has to drop out of the band’s tour because of personal problems, Pulse Records suggest that Mr. Drop-Dead-Lose-Your-Panties-Gorgeous lead singer in the band, ‘In Like Flynn’, takes his place. Regardless of the fact that Ryan grudgingly agrees, it makes sense as Flynn’s band is going to accompany Easy Ryder on the second-half of the tour. Ooh, we just love this author. She has a way of vividly describing all her characters’ personalities to a tee, and her ability to paint their physical appearance is undeniably brilliant. Okay, the book cover did influence us a tad, and for crying out loud, all we wanted to do was jump into the book and have our way with him lol!

Unbeknownst to Dylan, Lucky and Flynn had crossed paths before an important meeting. Blinkin’ heck! The first time they set eyes on each other is so damn hot, the sexual tension so thick, that it had us grabbing for my fan and texting each other like mad hatters! Humorous innuendos had us constantly chuckling to ourselves and as usual, the author deftly dangled the carrot in front of our noses. So what did we do? We read this page-flipping book in one day and it’s not a short read!

Flynn: ‘’You’ve been inside me since the day we met. It’s time I return the favour. Only I’m going to be much more literal.’’

We really have to add that we thought Flynn’s nonchalant attitude towards his career was fabulous. Every moment throughout the book, he has everything in perspective. His compassion for Lucky’s list of twelve steps she had promised to carry out to a dear person that is no longer by her side had us sniffling. If only it were possible to gift wrap this horrendously sensitive, loving, and sexy guy up in ‘our perfect man’ pack!

Flynn: ‘’I need you to choose. No more hiding. I want to kiss the hell out of you in public, whenever I want.’’

Saying that, the animosity between Dylan and Flynn is felt from the very beginning and you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. Here, the author has really gone to town detailing their antagonism. The stress of touring with a band from on city to another causes angst for all and believe you me, when things backfire, an omnishambles is on the horizon for more than one of them. The members of Easy Ryder have their quirks to put it lightly, but even so, they all play an important part in this smouldering, sizzling and gripping read. We really can’t express how I felt about the epilogue. To say it was awesome, would be an understatement. We’d love to quote from the epilogue but it would just give the ending away and we don’t want to do that. To fully experience the wide range of emotions this book evokes, we highly recommend you read it!

Ms Keeland, a request! Do add that new ‘super-naughty’ word of yours to the Urban dictionary! It didn’t click with me straight away, and I’m not sure if Rachel picked up on it; however, after quickly investigating, I realised where I had read it! Only you could have invented such coinage! Summing up Beat; it’s a fabulous read … BRAVO!
