** Five Horrendously Badly Broken Stars! **

Before this review was written, the definition of the word ‘perfect’ had to be defined as this read was utterly perfect. Perfect ‘being entirely without fault or defect’. When you read a book, especially its sequel, there is usually something that you would change or tweak, but for KFF, this wasn’t the case. We didn’t just read it, we inhaled it, consumed it and this outstanding read in turn, consumed us! And although we’re the first to willingly admit to having put it down on a number of occasions, absorbing the feelings of these two fragile characters literally took our breath away.

At the end of Bad Romeo, our hearts were left in smithereens. So much so that this made us wonder whether or not the author was capable of mending the tiny shards piercing our very core. Why, you may ask? Well, this is simply because Ethan walked away from Cassie. He really believed he is doing the best for her. In short, he sacrifices his love for her for well-being, and if you didn’t die on the spot, both of us would be surprised. He can’t believe that he would be anything but poison to her both, personally and professionally.

At the beginning of their story, Cassie was the one who pushed Ethan; however, now we see the complete opposite. They say a turnabout is fair play, hmm… risky, too! Now Ethan wants Cassie back. After being apart for three years, he is willing to do anything and everything to achieve it. There is no doubt in Cassie’s mind that she still loves Ethan, but when we read ‘Bad Romeo’, Ethan and Cassie never had a problem with love or passion and for that matter, it was maintaining a relationship with all the attachments that young love has to offer. Foremost and utmost, trying to deal with Ethan’s hang ups was the crux of the matter.

Quote: Ethan ~ “Yeah, but only because she expected more from me. It took me a long time to expect more from myself. To see that being vulnerable takes a shitload more strength than being closed off and sullen.”

Does time heal scars so deeply ingrained? Does love flourish when comprehension is blown to the wind because a creature of whim is misunderstood and misunderstands all the blatant signals of love? It would seem so. However, in this read, nothing is what it seems to reader. This is a ‘perfect’ recipe for a phenomenal read. One has to mention that we have never ever laughed out loud, sobbed our hearts out and cried happy tears in the same paragraph. So get ready for all these emotions. Because yes, the author is an absolute expert in making us suffer regardless. Did you connect to these two phenomenal characters in the first book? We have no doubt that you will now as they have matured in all aspects. Love, love, love Ethan. Kudos galore for developing such an incredible persona. And Cassie! There are times when one writes a review and is lost for words. How on earth the author has hit her personality on the nail is quite unfathomable. Once again, ‘perfect!’

Quote: Cassie ~ We’re two perfect characterizations, flawless in our denial.”

There are many exceptional quotes KFF could have cited in this review but to be honest, it would have ended up being a carbon copy of this book! Ms Rayven really does have exceptional literally skills! Please don’t think this book just gives pages and pages of angst because even though it is beyond heart wrenching, it delivers some brilliant one liners from not only Cassie and Ethan, but also from the secondary characters. A personal favourite of ours was from Tristan, Cassie’s flat mate who we fell head over heels with! He really tries to guide Cassie so she doesn’t get her heart broken all over again.

Quote: Tristan ~ ‘’Sweetheart, if you go much lower we’re going to have to re-examine my sexuality, and I don’t think either of us is ready for that right now.’’

Like Bad Romeo, this book flits from past to present which is vitally important and most certainly doesn’t spoil the flow of their story. The only way to understand Cassie and Ethan’s issues is by recapping every minuscule detail in their past which is done with so much finesse on the author’s part. How did we cope with it? ‘Perfectly!’ One tends to ignore the rewinding or fast-forward button. One king-size issue being what happened after Ethan breaks up with Cassie the first time when they were still in drama school. Assumptions were made wrongly. And, we may even add, were hurt dreadfully when Ethan walks away from her, all these concepts which we are led to believe, aren’t at all the truth. They still have drama school to graduate from and wow, this is where it gets more and more interesting. No spoilers here but just let’s just say things aren’t at the same point of no return between them.

Quote: Ethan ~ ‘’Do you feel this? This is what makes us keep coming back, despite everything we have been through. This is why I had to change, and why, despite how much I hurt you, you can’t walk away. The way we sink into each other. The way I can’t tell my heartbeat from yours. We have this perfect rhythm, whenever we’re together, and that’s the essence of us. It’s not just sex. It’s about this.’’

One very positive sign is when you’re reading a book and constantly checking how long you have left! Never stop checking as you won’t want it to end regardless of the outcome! This is exactly how we felt about Ethan and Cassie’s story. On the one hand, dreading the ending; on the other, willing it to end so we could find out if Cassie and Ethan get their happy ever after. Well, we hear you ask! Can they possibly find happiness which all of us are hoping for? Never say never! We cannot recommend this read highly enough. This is genuinely a book of true love between two very fragile characters but in different ways. One of Rachel’s favourite poets once said, ‘If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. And if they don’t, they never were.’

Quote: Cassie ~ ‘’Neither of us is perfect, that’s for sure, but when we’re together, our deficiencies are complemented by the other’s strength.”

One more word for those of you readers who haven’t read this series. Do! You won’t regret it! Only word for a ‘perfect’ read Ms Rayven. Bravo!

Writing has always been a passion for Leisa, and even though she originally intended to be an actress, it wasn’t long into her time at drama school that she began writing plays.

Those plays were bad. Very bad. Well, her friends thought they were good, but that’s because they were always cast in them and any opportunity to be on stage was met with an obnoxious amount of enthusiasm.

Since then, she’s honed her craft, and several of her plays have been produced and toured throughout Australia.

These days, playwriting has given way to fiction writing, and Leisa’s debut novel, BAD ROMEO, is available in a worldwide release through Macmillan Publishing in December 2014.

Leisa lives in Australia with her husband, two little boys, three cats, and a kangaroo named Howard.

(Howard may or may not be her imaginary marsupial friend. Everyone should have one.)

** ARC gifted from the author in exchange for an honest review **

Well what do you know, I think I have a new favourite sport; Hockey! Never thought that would be the case but the writing skill of this author has managed to convince me otherwise. This is the second book I’ve read from this author, The Deal being the first which I loved, so when I was asked to read and review this book, I jumped at the chance.

This book can be read as a standalone as John Logan, Garrett’s best friend from The Deal, is mentioned but now Logan has his own story and wow what a heart-breaking story it is! All this guy wants to do play hard, have fun and play the sport he loves as he knows there is a time limit. Not only did he make a promise to himself which he won’t, no… can’t break, but he also made it to his brother. But he didn’t bank on meeting Grace who is a breath of fresh air to the usual ‘puck bunnies’ who literally throw themselves at him. Grace is no pushover and makes him work for her attention.

Logan: ‘’You’re Killing me here, gorgeous. I’m talking about how much I want to give you a screaming orgasm, and you’re laughing at me? Did we not establish that my ego is fragile?’’

I do love a female protagonist who can hold her own and boy, Grace does! She takes no crap at all. She’s witty, sweet and very loyal. Some of the banter between Logan and Grace made me laugh out loud! She really does make him suffer so when she discovers Logan’s sacrifice for his family, she sees a different side to ‘The Player’ he makes himself out to be.

This is a very sexy read but not in a gratuitous way. After all, this is a New Adult college read and as in the previous book, humour features heavily and done very well. Grace is a virgin when she meets Logan and desperately wants to get rid of her ‘V Card.’ However, Logan treats her with nothing but kindness and respect and after these very sweet sexy scenes, I think I fell in love with Logan just that little bit more.

Grace: ‘’What’s the matter, Johnny? Scared?’’
Logan: ‘’Mocking a guy isn’t gonna get you laid, baby.’’
Grace: ‘’Stalling isn’t going to either. Come on, baby. Deflower me.’’

Whilst I very much enjoyed this book, I didn’t love it as much as ‘The Deal.’ Maybe the reason being Garrett, who I absolutely adored. The banter was hilarious, very sharp and sarcastic in parts which I love in a New Adult read. Elle Kennedy is certainly a very talented writer, and I won’t hesitate to read more by this author. Oh yes, I understand there is a book three in the series, so that will be definitely one I will look out for. I highly recommend this series and if you are a hockey fan then you are in for a real treat!

twisted souls 1

Stepping into the warm water with her, I need her like I need my next breath. I snake my arms around her and pull her to me. I can’t stop the groan that comes out when her wet skin hits mine. I’m a guy; I know all about showers. However, a shower with Liane is beyond my wildest fantasies. Our tongues come together as I step us backwards and press her gently into the wall, hoping it’s not cold. She doesn’t make a sound, so she either doesn’t care or it’s warm enough. I smooth her wet hair away from her face as I deepen our kiss, tilting my head so I can tell her everything I want with my mouth.

She moans, her hands finding me and making my eyes roll in my head. Yeah, this entire night is going to be what saves me for the next few months, thinking about all of this right here. I slow down our kiss and pull away, putting my lips at her ears. “Wanna race?” I tease. I love playing with her; it’s one of my favorite things to do.

“Race?” She looks at me, a gleam in her eye. “We’re starting a new kind of race?” Her hands are still caressing me, and I can barely form words at the sensation.

“Yeah,” I mutter, putting my hands over hers so she will stop for a second. “We’ve raced our whole lives, right? It’s part of who we are. So why not have a race now?”

“What are we racing to?” She looks me up and down, her eyes stopping at the evidence of my desire for her.

I lean over and whisper in her ear, and she giggles, looking up at me with wide eyes. “Really? And what does the winner—or loser—get?”

I wink at her. “The winner gets to pick the next location.” She gets exactly what I mean, and I see the competitive gleam come into her eye.

“Well, let the best man—or in this case, woman—win,” she says. All I know is, I’m not losing because I already have the grand prize. Her.

This is the story of Blake McIntyre, Liane Kelly and their families. They have known each other for their whole lives. Each year, holidays were spent on Sanibel Island together. The had always been the best of friends; totally inseparable. When they go home after their vacation, they miss each other but keep in contact by letter and telephone. As they get ready to go to college, they have a whirlwind summer and feelings are finally admitted along with their dreams of the future.

Quote ~ “Someday soon, I’m going to put a ring on this finger. And not long after that, everyone in the world will know that you are mine.”

Liane had a boyfriend at home from the age of sixteen until she was eighteen called Ronan Collier. He had broken it off with her before she went on the normal summer vacation where she realised her heart belonged to Blake. Promises are made along with plans, but Blake is concerned Ronan will talk Liane into getting back with him. Liane promises this will not happen.

Quote ~ “He probably won’t give up without a fight.”

This story is set in the 1990,s before social media and mobile phones really took off. It has a lot of twist and turns and I really wouldn’t want to give too much away.

Twisted Souls is full of so many emotions and feelings; namely love, hate, betrayal and angst. I found my heart breaking for Blake and Liane and I certainly wasn’t expecting what happened. It is one hell of a bumpy road and I found that I couldn’t put this book down. I just wanted to know what was exactly going to happen next. All I can say is their lives twist in the most unexpected way with lots of lies and hurt which toward the second part of the book, made me wonder if they would ever recover.

I adored Blake! He is so loving and sweet. Such a passionate young man who wears his heart on his sleeve. And Liane! She is such a sweet young girl who always wants to do the right thing regardless of hurtful moments. She never goes out of her way to cause anyone any harm; she just goes along with what everyone else wants! Nevertheless, I wouldn’t say she was lacking in backbone either. Far from it! Weakness didn’t come into the equation as she just loved fiercely and wanted to make everyone happy. Until she has to drop a major bombshell that changes the whole course of what she wanted for her future.

Ronan Collier! To describe him as the spoilt rich young man who manipulated everything to suit himself would be putting it mildly. I wasn’t at all keen on him!

I give this read five stars as it has everything in a story that I like with all the emotions and wonder of where the story would take me. I listened to the playlist and it fits in perfectly well for the era the author was portraying. A great big well done, and I’m so looking forward to the second part of the series to see what happens to all the main protagonists. I also loved the supporting characters and even though there were only three, they complimented the story immensely.

It is easy to look back at your life and see the mistakes you’ve made and wonder how it all could’ve been different. Twisted Paths is not a standalone. This is meant to be read after book one in the Twisted series, Twisted Souls.

twisted paths 1

The first thing I notice is that the man is seriously beautiful. His body is cut and sculpted like he spends hours a day in the gym, and even in the dim light from the pool deck, I can tell he’s tan. His board shorts hang low on his hips, and the defined cuts of muscle on his chest and abs is enough to send women running to him and dropping at his feet. Had I been a single woman, he would definitely be my type. My eyes lift past his impeccable body to the face and head that’s attached, and that’s when my heart completely stops. I must’ve gasped out loud, because I feel Mia turn and look at me as he gets closer.

I feel my mouth drop open as his eyes meet mine for the first time in years. “Blake.” He stops in his tracks, both of us staring at each other for what seems like every moment of the time we have been apart. I can’t believe he’s standing here, and had it not been for Mia standing next to me, I might’ve thought I was dreaming.

Reviewed By Donna Elsegood on behalf of Kindle Friends Forever.

This is the second and final part of the Twisted Series. The story of Blake McIntyre and Liane Kelly, or now known as Collier.

Twisted Souls’ story was set eighteen years earlier. They had chosen their paths all those years ago with Liane seeing her son Carter off to college. This pained her as she had always been a devoted wife and mother; married to a hard working provider for their little family. She was young and still at school when Carter was born, but even so, she managed to fulfil her dream of becoming a teacher.

Suddenly she is dropped from a great height and everything she believed about her life’s path is not what it seems. Liane decides to run away to the family holiday retreat in Sanibel in Florida where the family have a timeshare.

Blake McIntyre returns every year to Sanibel to relive his memories of his one true love. Blake’s family desperately wants him to move on but he still can’t let go. He is a recovering alcoholic due to not coping very well with what life has dealt him. Divorced with no children, he still lives in hope.
Blake and Liane paths cross again at Sanibel and old feelings are felt.

Quote: Blake ~ “I want to help, whatever it is,” “No matter what, I want to be your friend. We were friends before… we’ve always been friends. So if you want to talk I’m here. “

Quote: Liane ~ “I haven’t seen you in years Blake,” “I’m not sure being friends as kids classifies us as friends now.”

There is a lot to work through for these two protagonists as it’s clear they are still in love. Even after all these years, they were truly meant to be together. A tragedy strikes and everything they have ever believed in comes crashing down around them.

I was on the edge of my seat as truths were unfolded. I couldn’t believe what I was reading, and I must admit I despised Ronan in Twisted Souls but in this segment, a little part of me felt sorry for him. Just a little part, I might add! Blake and Liane are fantastic characters and to see where the story took them held my attention so much that I forgot everything else around me. Great supporting characters and I loved Carter. What a lovely young man and I know we’re going to get a story about him. I loved the whole plot, the author’s style of writing, and I will definitely be reading more of her work. Let’s just say all the frantic reading wanting to know what happens, plenty of angst included, was well worth it with a satisfactory outcome.

               JAX                    LILY

Reviewed By Donna Elsegood.

Jax and Lily are just a month apart in age and since their mothers are best friends, these two have had a close bond growing up. Lily being the eldest is nicknamed “Little” by Jake which she finds most annoying. She wants to be called Lil. This is a brief introduction to their story as it leaps forward five years when they are preparing to go to college. Jax is a football player and has a girlfriend called Maeve; however, he doesn’t like Lily gaining attention from other guys. Lily points out to Jax that he can’t always be around to protect her.

Quote ~ Lily: “You can’t always be around, Jax.”
Quote ~ Jax: “For you, Lily, I can. I’m always here for you. You know that.”

Jax takes Lily to the school prom and while they are they are dancing together, she starts feeling something. She can’t understand why she is reacting like she is, or why she is attracted to him. When a song they have danced to more than a million times is played, “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis, Lily gets confused. Ruining her friendship with her best friend is the last thing on her mind.

Quote~ “I requested it, and I made it extremely clear to the DJ that my Little had to dance to this song tonight.”

Kisses are shared increasing their magnetism which in turn, causes more bewilderment. But they discuss this at great length as neither of them want to destroy what they’ve had in the past. Decisions are made and they decide to take their relationship up to new level.

Three years later, Jax is in college playing football and Lily stays behind at a local community college. Jax wanted her to go to his college, Lily feels she needs to branch out and discover her own identity. So when she enrols in photography, Jax breaks off with her as he says he wants to have the college life.

Regardless of other romances, their passion is rekindled. There is a lot of angst in this emotional rollercoaster story which I won’t give away. One thing is clear though; as they grow older, the few twists and turns thrown in doesn’t dampen their powerful love.

The author has written a story that shows us life isn’t always mapped out the way one expects it to. Jax and Lily thought they would be able to withstand anything. Growing up and learning who they are as people made it inevitable that there would be the unexpected in store. Sweet moments and few hot scenes made this read perfect.

This is book one of two in a series and now that Lily and Jax are adults who have graduated, I am looking forward to seeing what happens in their futures. The ending of this first part was a huge wow! Will they or won’t they? I was totally sitting on edge. Please don’t be put off by the fact that it begins with them as children until young adults. This all adds to the build-up of who they really are. I can’t wait for the second book from this fabulous storyteller. Ellie, you just get better and better and in my opinion, five shiny stars are most certainly worthy of such a fab read.

Ellie Wade resides in southwest Michigan with her husband, three young children, and two dogs. She has a Master’s degree in education from Eastern Michigan University and is a huge University of Michigan sports fan. She loves the beauty of her home state, especially the lakes and the gorgeous autumn weather. When she is not writing, you will find her reading, snuggled up with her kiddos, or spending time with family and friends. She loves traveling and exploring new places with her family.

I’m a New Adult Romance author who loves writing about what happens when love and dreams collide with the real world. I wrote my first novel, Dance for Me, in daily chunks in a very busy, very noisy coffee shop, which meant I had to order a black Americano every hour, on the hour, to keep my seat and wound up wired on caffeine most days. I hit the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists in summer 2013. Unlike my characters, I can’t dance.

Before Undercover, I wrote the Fenbrook Academy series of New Adult romances: Dance For Me, In Harmony and Acting Brave.

From Seduced

There are some moments you know you’re going to remember for the rest of your life. I know this, because one in particular has burrowed so deep into my soul that it’s never coming out. I remember the sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach as the car fell. It was my life, dropping out from under me. The feeling that nothin is ever going to be alright again.
This was the same and yet different. That was an ending; this was something beginning.
I’d stepped away from the bed and towards the door. That single step probably saved my life. If I’d still had my hand on the laptop, he’d have known for sure I was a spy and I would have been carried out of that room in a bloody, plastic-wrapped bundle.
I saw shock on his face and then, just for a split second, another look, one I couldn’t even process, right then—I filed it away for later. Then anger, and a quick glance at the laptop.
Some instinct made me keep my eyes on him. If I’d looked at the laptop, my fate would have been sealed. But I just stood there, mouth open, as he closed the distance between us.
One huge hand slammed into my chest, the palm right on the valley of my upper breasts. He pushed me back against the door, the hard wood jarring me painfully. He kept coming, stopping when his face was inches from mine. The whole world narrowed down to the throbbing heat of his hand against my skin and those burning, ice-fire eyes.
“What the fuck are you doing in my room?” he demanded.
We stared at each other as I took panic breaths through my nose, my lips a tight line of fear. His hand, pinning me to the door, might as well have been made of warm iron. He had me so firmly that I couldn’t even wriggle to the side. And despite my mounting panic, I was aware of the side of his thumb and the side of his pinky finger as they framed the tops of my breasts. Every breath made the soft flesh push and swell around them and a black, twisting energy shoot straight down to my groin. What the fuck is wrong with me?!
In my earpiece, I could hear panicked whispers as Adam, Roberta and the others tried to figure out what to do. Burst in and rescue me? Wait and see how it played out?
His words were replaying over and over in my head. It was the first time I’d ever heard him speak in English. His accent was heavy, softening some syllables and making others granite-hard. His fffuck was like a slow penetration followed by a jerk of the hips.
What the hell is wrong with me?! I wondered again. I had to answer him, had to think of some way out of this, but my mind was stuck on endless loop, replaying his words. Any second now, he was going to snap and just kill me.
So I did the only thing I could think of. I squeezed my eyes shut to try to break the loop and saw that image of him as he’d come out of the bathroom. The shock on his face, flicking momentarily to another look.
Just for a fraction of a second, the ghost of a smile had touched his lips. Not the fake smile he’d given the women downstairs. A smile that actually reached those cold eyes, thawing them a little. It had been gone in an instant, but it had been there. He’d been pleased to see me.
The implications of it were still detonating like fireworks in my chest when I opened my eyes and said, “I was looking for you.”
He went utterly silent. His eyes flicked over my face, fast and brutally efficient, searching for any trace of a lie.
He didn’t find one because, on some level, I think I was telling the truth.
He inched his head back from me, but he didn’t release me. He was getting a better look at me, I realized. He’d been entirely focused on my face, but now his eyes swept down over my chest, my hips, my legs. Something like a hot shudder went through me and I felt a flush rise in my cheeks. That feeling I’d had downstairs was back, that sense of being locked onto each other like magnets, close enough now that I twisted and turned to mimic his movements.
As he looked at me, I looked at him. He was nearly a head taller even with me in my heels, and his frame blocked out almost all of the light from behind him. With the black suit, he looked like he was made of shadow except for those blazing blue eyes. But it wasn’t his size so much as the solidity of him, the realness. Next to him, I felt like a faded, worn-thin copy of a person.
And the weirdest part was, as I stood there pinned against the door, I could feel the energy of him flowing into me, reawakening me. After years spent frozen and slowly dying, I finally felt alive again.
He took a long, slow breath and leaned in closer to me again. He was wearing some cologne I didn’t recognize, something complex and elegant and somehow old-fashioned. He moved his mouth close to my ear. Then he spoke, and each word was like a savage little kiss. “You shouldn’t come looking for monsters. Men like me will eat you alive.”
And then he drew back to see my reaction.
I didn’t know how I was going to react either. I was operating on a whole different level, now, something deep inside me directing things. I was just along for the ride.
I took a shaky breath and whispered, “I’m not scared of you.”
He stared deep into my eyes, appraising me, and said, “Yes you are.”
And a deep, hot oil slick seemed to sluice through me, more complex than fear, more complex than lust.
His free hand closed on my leg, just beneath the hem of my dress. His palm cupped my flesh through the nylon, his heat throbbing into me. And he stared at me, demanding an answer.
I swallowed and stared back, and the message my eyes sent was…“Continue.”
His hand rose, rasping along the dark nylon, my breathing ratcheting higher and higher with each inch. His fingers slid over my thigh…then my upper thigh. Each square millimeter he touched burned as if it was on fire, the energy crackling inward and up towards my groin. The dress was coming up along with his hand, gathering on his wrist. And then he touched the naked skin above my stocking and I realized I was panting.
He stared straight into my eyes as his fingers reached my panties. His fingertips toyed with the waistband for a second…and then continued. He moved inward, now, hoisting my dress up further with an impatient jerk of his wrist. His hand slid over my stomach and up to my chest and—
He cupped my breast, his hand weighing it in my bra. His palm throbbed warmth through the thin fabric, straight into my soft flesh. Then he squeezed—a long, lingering squeeze, and pleasure erupted in my chest and roared out to every corner of me. I tried to go up on my tiptoes, to twist, to thrash in response, but his other hand still had me pinned. I had to just stay there and take it.
I’d never been more turned on.
And then I heard a noise in my earpiece, a soft intake of breath. They’re listening to this!
And my mouth said, “I have to go,” even as my body demanded that I stay right where I was.
Luka had his eyes half-closed. He just remained there, studying me for another few seconds. He gave my breast one last, unexpected squeeze and I gasped as it sent a ripple of heat through me. Then he released me and my dress fell back into place.
Operating on autopilot, I grabbed my violin case and opened the door. I’d taken two steps out into the hallway before I remembered the bodyguard on the stairs. He turned at the sound of the door opening and his jaw dropped. He reached under his jacket—maybe for a radio, maybe for a gun.
But then I heard Luka emerge behind me, and whatever nod or gesture he made to his bodyguard made the man step back immediately and clear a path for me. I didn’t turn around. I just hurried down the stairs, violin banging against my hip, threw the front door wide and headed straight for the cherry-red SUV. Adam was already inside and waiting and I could see the concern in his eyes. But he faked a fatherly smile and opened the door for me. I quickly climbed inside.
We roared away and the last image I had of the house, in the rear view mirror, was Luka in the doorway, thoughtfully watching me go.
