REVIEW ~ BRAZEN (Brazen Duet) by M. Malone & Nana Malone is now available!

BRAZEN, M. Malone & Nana Malone’s first book in the Brazen Duet is now available! Scroll down for Emma’s fan-freakin’-tastic review!

Wham, bam, thank you ma’am? That’s my motto.

There’s no room in my life for anything more complicated than a one-night stand. I’m a bodyguard. It’s easier to put my life on the line when there’s no one worrying if I’ll make it home for dinner.

But then the one woman who made me want more waltzes back into my life needing my protection.

Despite our explosive chemistry, we can’t go there again. What happened in Vegas, has to stay in Vegas.

Except the marriage vows neither of us remember.

The heir apparent to one of the world’s largest perfume companies, Hailey is driven to prove to the world that she has what it takes. Having locked herself and her heart away since one amazing weekend in Vegas years earlier; she has no time for frivolous activities or time wasting. If only whoever is trying to kill her could get the memo, Hailey would be super happy.

‘All kinds of a man. He’d been the only marker I really had for what a man was. But there was something about him now. Something even more self-assured.’

Oskar Mueller team player and part of Blake Security, (yes, The Blake Security from the Winston Isles. Yummy Alpha Men) is front and centre in the epic story that is Hailey and her deadly shadows. Only they have a history and that history is far more complex than anyone, especially for the reader, understands.

The hurt is still very real for one and yet both are still forcibly attracted to one another. Magnets would have an easier time staying away from each other than these two. As is always in the case for these writers, there are so many questions that need answering. Why is Hailey’s mother the way she is? Why is her father so protective and secretive? Why does Hailey’s own brother loathe her so much? And who in the heck would want to kill a lab geek who just mixes up perfumes?

Oskar and Hailey are so very different. Different in every way that counts, doesn’t matter though, not to them because they love each other fiercely and when the walls come-a-tumbling down, their simply eyewitnesses to the chemistry their bodies have been fuelling ever since they last were together. Our major players aren’t the only ones feeling the lust chemical; I just wonder how that one will work out.

‘…I inhaled. Sandalwood. I sighed and immediately relaxed. I love that smell. The moment I was wrapped in his arms, I felt like I was exactly where I belonged.’

I have always respected how these authors create families. It rarely comes from people who share blood. As we move further into the twenty-first-century, family has taken on such a broader term and authors the world over are reflecting real society into their books. This makes me happy and content to read such books. Family and lives are no longer just fluid, no two people are ever the same (even identical twins are different).

One more comment about this book though, what the heck was that cliffhanger ladies? Do you know what you’re doing to me? Thank goodness, the next one is out very soon. Jeez. I have come to the most obvious conclusions: either of these two cannot pen a book and not have me clinging onto the edge of my seat and suffering from awful palpitations. Wick authors, evil, devilish. Please, do not ever change! Kudos on another great one.

How the hell did I, the perpetual bachelor, end up accidentally married in Vegas—to my client?

As soon as I find out who’s trying to kill her, we’ll get a quickie divorce…or will we? I was never supposed to be married. I was never supposed to fall in love. I was never supposed to put her in danger.

But now that she’s back in my life I wonder if some things shouldn’t stay in Vegas.

To keep her I’ll have to fight for her. Good thing I’m brazen enough to do just that.

BLOG TOUR ~ DOWN WE’LL COME, BABY by Carrie Aarons

Carrie Aarons’ stand-alone contemporary romance, Down We’ll Come, Baby is now available and free to read in Kindle Unlimited!

Imogen

There is no way we can still love and cherish one and other.

When I married Theo Walsh, the rough, bearded townie who worked construction on my family’s summer house, I’d found my happily ever after.

That was before the fighting.
Before the jealousy.
Before the infertility.

We’ll be divorced long before death does us part.

But to secure my place in the family dynasty, there is just one more hoop I have to jump through. And I need him to do it.

Faking the marriage we once thrived in will gut me.
Especially with the secret I’m carrying.

Theo

I would have sacrificed for her until the end of time.

My job.
My home.
My happiness.

I’d given it all up to marry her. That’s how much I loved Imogen Weston, the daughter to one of the world’s richest families.

From the day we met, I’d done nothing but try to live up to the man she expected to be with. And now, I was done.

Sure, I’d complete this one final ask of hers, even if it destroyed me.

But I’ve made her promise the one thing that might save me. She swore that after she got everything she ever wanted, she wouldn’t look back.

I made my wife vow to leave me forever.

How do I sum this book up without letting any cats out? I have no clue. I started reading on the bus journey to work, by nine percent I was already in tears, yes, whilst on the bus, no care given. None. Zero. Zilch. Anyway, I carried on reading whilst doing the return bus journey home and no sooner did I get home and kick my shoes off, I jumped back in. Fast forward through nightly chores, etc, and I was back into this gem and I didn’t put it down until I read those sweet tortuous words: The End. The number of times being driven into reading as if I gasp for air after swimming is something I can count on both hands and still have spare fingers.

This is a book of three parts: Imogen’s and Thero’s point of view and the walks down memory lane we relive right along with them. Each memory is shared to shove the reader into the emotions as well as the history that these two have endured. Plenty of them are hard to read for one reason or another. They are surely soul mates for true. Their world throws them on a spin cycle more than once and each time they break just a little bit more. How can two people who truly are two halves of a whole not be together? They’d have been safer in a war zone if you ask me.

Imogen’s family play a huge part in destroying their lives. In a class equal to the Vanderbilt’s. True WASPs through and through. Troubles are shoved under overpriced Persian rugs and ignored; only when Imogen marries a “Townie” they can’t shove that much under the rug. Her father is as evil as I have seen without being a TV villain. I daresay off page he rubs his hands gleefully several times. I often found myself wondering how any woman in her thirties could allow her father such control, having said that, I don’t come from old money or high society. Theo gives up so much for his wife. More than anyone has the right to ask. Yet she never asks, he gives and gives and when the cookie crumbles for the final time Imogen is the one who sneaks out in the middle of the night.

The entire time I experienced this book and it is an experience, I’ve talked about it so much, several friends have already one-clicked. Living their lives with them became oxygen to me and I had to know how it ended, hence why I was up until gone two in the morning reading. The book hangover was so worthwhile.

‘How do we turn it off now? Now that we’re supposed to be done. How do we stop loving each other when we had no idea that we’d stated? One day, I’d been me. And the next I’d been here. There was no in between.’

Imogen isn’t the bad person in this; she’s ignorant to what her husband is suffering. Imprisoned in a bubble of solitude and pain. Love scenes were few and far between. Imogen and Theo aren’t in a place where sex can fix them. Imogen wants to return to a normal life and the way she does it had me feeling nauseous. How can she not see that she’s selling her soul to the devil and sacrificing who she’s become?

“We fell in love because we were meant to, because you stood as steady as a rock in the middle of the ocean when it came to our relationship.”

Money and stature play heavily in their marriage. Imogen and Theo aren’t the ones that put it there. She has money, Theo doesn’t. Theo is indifferent to it, he hates the level of money they have. He sees it as an anvil hanging over Imogen’s head. She sells herself short so many times and tries to explain herself in narration and I just wanted to throttle the woman. I understand how these things can be ingrained into someone but for goodness sake, have a little more self-preservation.

‘It goes against everything I’ve said to him and to myself since I left Theo… but deep down, I want him so much it’s killing me. Every day we’re together, it’s like I’m carving our pieces of my soul.’

The author did the story so much justice. From minute one there is emotion and heartbreak. No build up here, oh no. This was my read of a Carrie Aaron book and I won’t allow it to be my first. The front cover does the book so much justice. I need me a Theo. Everyone on earth deserves a Theo to love them as much as he loves his wife. He asks himself once if he’s more invested and I truly believe that he was. She held a little back whilst he went full force, balls to the wall.

‘I would cut off my right arm, taken a bullet, thrown myself in front of a train…you name the horrific maiming and I would have done it to spend my life with this woman.’

Thank you, Ms. Aaron, for getting this one out there. The subject matter was difficult at times to endure. The heartbreak and tears so worth the ending.

It’s not you. It’s me.

No, seriously. It is me. Not only does my name literally mean “unfortunate,” but that’s the story of my life.

Everything I touch turns to cr*p. An apartment fire—that I swear I was not responsible for—means I’m living back at home with my s*x-mad parents. Yay, me!

Which is why I need my new job as personal assistant to Cameron Reid to get back on my feet. Three months in this job and I can move back out and, hopefully, remember to turn off my flat iron once in a while.

Ahem.

On paper, my job is easy. Make coffee. Book appointments. Keep everything in order.

Until I walk in on my boss, half-naked, wearing nothing but the kind of tiny white towel that dreams are made of.

Now, nothing is easy—except our mutual attraction. But he’s my boss, and you know what they say about mixing work and pleasure: unless you do p*rn, it’s just not worth it.

Or is it?

I’ve read some of Hart’s books and so far this is my favourite. Also, I think it’s her best romcom to date and I promise you won’t regret giving Catastrophe Queen a go.

Mallory Harper aka Catastrophe Queen aka Hurricane Mallory is currently unemployed and is back living with her parents. She is a walking disaster and one morning when going for a job interview she was almost hit by a car. When she finally gets the job, she finds out that her new boss was the one who nearly killed her, not his fault though, Hurricane Mal takes the full credit for that mishap. This heroine is funny and sweet but a danger to herself.

Cameron Reid, is rich, runs a successful family business and is considered a good catch. He doesn’t have any bitter exes to worry about and is happy the way his life is on track with his goals until Mallory becomes his PA. Yes, she is a pretty package and he really likes her even when she is a klutz.

Told in dual points of view, this book is wickedly funny, I have never laughed as much as when I got to know these delightful characters. The author creates in Mallory the most adorable, likeable and witty heroine you could ever think of. I would love to be her best friend but maybe at a distance because she seems to be a magnet for disaster. I loved her smart mouth, her intelligence and compassion. And you can’t go wrong with Cameron either, he is sexy, has the patience of a saint and is kind. The secondary characters, especially Mallory’s family, makes you feel like you’re in crazy town but with happy vibes. The dialogue between the hero and heroine is a regular exchange of quick wit and innuendos. “By the way, Mallory, my face is a few inches higher. As much as I’m sure my belly button would like to hear what you have to say.”

Mal’s family members and their constant bickering/confrontation/discussion at the dinner table provide a generous serving of heavy sarcasm with a side dish of insults and jibes in every chapter of the book and I mustn’t forget to mention Jade, Mallory’s best friend/wing-woman/pimp. She is something else and more. When reading about these characters, I couldn’t help but giggle and smile all throughout the book. I loved the realistic timeline and that the author didn’t write unnecessary sex scenes, less is more I would say. Cameron and Mallory’s relationship burns hot and slow, they value the meaning of true romance albeit with sprained ankles, near-death experiences or accidental fires. I guarantee that this couple’s very entertaining and amusing love story will cure your January blues; you don’t want to miss this one!

I took my coffee from the counter and scanned the room for an empty table. There wasn’t one, which killed my chances of wasting more time before I went home.
With a sigh, I checked my phone for the time and headed for the door. I was going to end up at home earlier than I’d planned, and I needed to check with my mom to make sure there wasn’t anything kinky happening somewhere in the house.
I’d considered bleaching my eyes enough in the last few weeks, thank you.
I was fairly sure I was safe because my grandfather and great aunt were coming to stay to celebrate Grandpa’s eightieth birthday. It was still a miracle my exhibitionist mother shared DNA with either of them. Unlike her, they were reserved, polite, and didn’t flash their flesh in the hopes of getting out of a speeding ticket.
Really, it was no wonder I was a walking disaster.
I pulled up my messages and clicked on my mom’s name. My thumb was poised to type the burning question of whether or not it was safe to come home when I glanced up.
And saw the car screeching to a stop, mere inches from me.
I screamed and stepped back. My heel caught on the curb, sending me toppling backward, and both my coffee and phone went flying. My cup slammed against the sidewalk, splattering hot liquid everywhere right as I managed to save my phone from certain death by concrete.
My heart was beating so fast it should have exploded, and adrenaline raced through my veins. I gripped my phone against me so tightly that the edges pressed painfully into my skin.
Oh my God.
I’d just almost died.
Maybe slightly dramatic, but I probably wasn’t far wrong. I didn’t even know I’d stepped into the road. When had that happened? Had I really been in that deep into my own little world that I hadn’t even checked for traffic?
Dear God.
How was I still alive?
The back door to the sleek, black car that somehow hadn’t run me over swung open. From my vantage position on the sidewalk, the first thing I saw was a pair of shiny, black shoes attached to legs wearing perfectly-pressed, light gray dress pants.
I dragged my gaze up from the feet, over the door of the perfectly clean car, and stared at the most beautiful man known to humankind.
Thick, dark, wavy hair covered his head, curling over his ears. Lashes the same dark shade of brown framed impossibly bright-blue eyes that regarded me with a mixture of shock and concern, and my ovaries about exploded when he rubbed a large hand over full pink lips and a stubbled, strong jaw.
“Miss—I’m so sorry. Are you okay?”
Scrambling to my feet as he approached me, I tugged down the leg of my pants and grabbed my pursed. “Yes. I mean—it was my fault. I wasn’t paying attention. I’m sorry.”
He let go of the car door, showing broad shoulders and just how well that gray suit was tailored to him, and picked up my coffee cup. “All the same, I think we can share blame. Are you sure you’re not hurt?”
Just my dignity, and by this point, I was running low on it anyway.
I shifted, taking a step back. “I’m fine, really. Thank you.”
“Can I replace your coffee? Give you a ride anyway to apologize?” His expression was so earnest, his concern so genuine that I almost gave in.
Almost.
I had almost walked into the front of his car, then proceeded to embarrass myself in front of everyone on the street.
“No, no, it’s fine. I’m not far from home.” I clutched my phone and purse straps a little harder. “Again, thank you, but I should be going.”
He nodded as if he understood. “Uh, miss? Did you drop something there?”
My eyes followed the direction Mr. Dreamboat was pointing. On the side of the road, tucked against the curb, was a pair of white, cotton panties with flamingos on them.
My white, cotton panties with flamingos on them.
Swallowing, I met his bright eyes and shook my head. Dear God, please don’t let me blush. “No. I’ve never seen them before.” I backed up a little more. “Thank you for not running me over.”
Mr. Dreamboat grinned, his eyes brightening with his smile. “I’d never be able to forgive myself if I’d been responsible for running over someone as beautiful as you.” He glanced toward my panties, then winked at me.
There was no doubting that I was blushing this time around.
You could fry eggs on my cheeks.
So I did the only thing any self-respecting, twenty-five-year-old woman who’d just almost been run over, tripped, and dropped her dirty panties could do.
I ran.
But only like two blocks, because I was in heels, and I had the fitness levels of a hippo.
Then I grabbed a cab.

I have read some of this author’s books but so far this is my favourite. This contemporary romance is the perfect combination of characters that complement each other, they balance out their strength and weaknesses.

Amelia is a shy introvert book blogger who gets tongue-tied when talking to strangers. She lives and breathes in her books and the only people she interacts with are her closest friends. When she meets Tommy, she is thrust into the limelight and must learn how to cope with the fame. Maybe the pretend becomes real, she certainly hopes so.

Tommy is the bad boy of the book world, his many run-ins with the law made him too hot to handle in the publishing industry. His one last chance is Amelia and when she decides to help him out with their fake relationship, his world turns upside down, he also learns to trust and even learn how to love. But when someone betrays him will he be able to trust again?

This is a very well written book that was light-hearted at the beginning but becomes so much more than just a typical romance. Told in dual points of view, the ending may be predictable but the author writes Amelia and Tommy’s tale in such a way that makes their characters so empathetic and appealing and will make you swoon. The storyline is perfect; the character development is excellent and well paced. Having read many books in this genre I knew that there would be some drama interjected into this couple’s relationship and I find myself praying to the book gods or maybe just to the author to please don’t be too harsh on them, especially with Amelia. Although I like Amelia, Tommy’s character is my favourite. He is loyal and down to earth and because he is an author of course I expect him to be very eloquent and he didn’t disappoint.

“Faith is complete and absolute. Faith cannot be shaken. Faith believes, even when what you can see betrays what you know.”

This is a fairy tale of the twenty-first century: books, social media, fake news and heroes you can relate to. Both of the characters’ emotional growth in this story is quite poignant and remarkable and why I think this is an epic love story you shouldn’t miss out. I loved this book and would highly recommend it.

The hall bathroom door opened, consequently stopping the earth’s orbit and flinging me into space for lack of gravity.Thomas Bane stepped out of the doorway in slow motion, propelled by a cloud of steam that licked at his glistening body like it wanted to taste him. His hair was black, wet, curling and dripping in rivulets down the planes and valleys of his expansive chest and abs and narrow hips. He had that thing, the trough of muscle bracketing his hips that caught sluicing water and carried it in an angle that would eventually reach that unknown terrain beneath his towel. I saw the ghost of that terrain, the long, cylindrical bulge that was substantial enough to clearly state its presence, even through the thick towel. He smirked, dragging his hand through his wet hair. I salivated, watching droplets of water roll down his forearm and collect on the tip of his erotic elbow.“You’re up,” he said.

I blinked, not knowing when I’d set my coffee down or how many minutes—hours? years?—had passed in the time I spent ogling his body.

He sauntered into the room like he wasn’t basically naked. I tried unsuccessfully not to stare at his knees, the place where his ropy thigh connected, the angular muscles of his calves, the curve of his ankle, the broad pad of his foot.

He was perfectly proportioned. Michelangelo would have carved him twenty feet tall, and women would have worshipped at his perfect feet.

Gus bounced when he saw Tommy, his toys forgotten. And when Gus took off running, Tommy stopped, eyes widening and hands splayed in front of him.

“Gus, no,” he commanded.

To no one’s surprise, Gus did not listen. He barked once, snagged the hem of Tommy’s towel, and whipped it off him in a single tug that exposed every inch of skin on Thomas Bane’s ridiculous body.

Thank God my coffee was already on the counter. I’d have gotten third-degree burns.

For a split second, Tommy was frozen there in all his natural glory, poised to run after his dog, his face drawn and eyes locked on the sweet, disobedient dog. He wasn’t paying any attention to me.

I, however, gave him my full and undivided consideration.

His thighs were a mass of muscle so hard and defined, the tops were planes that came to a notch at his knee and a point where it met his hip. My eyes caught that trough that had before disappeared and followed it where it pointed—straight to the thatch of dark hair and the member nestled there.

The very thick, very long, mostly limp member.

If I stared at it a second longer, I was going to faint—my vision was already dim, my pulse pumping so hard, I could feel it in my neck, at the back of which a cold sweat had broken.

But he shifted to run after Gus, who was galloping away, trailing the towel behind him.

“Dammit, Gus! Gimme that!”

Then it was the back of him I saw, his hair, the streaming water rolling down all the curves of his shoulders, his back, the valley of his spine, and down to the most perfect ass I’d ever seen in real life.

Well, the only ass I’d ever seen in real life that wasn’t my own, and even that I couldn’t get a good look at without a mirror.

Seriously, that ass. That perfectly sculpted ass, round and tight and curved in the sides, shifting from one side to the other as he ran after the damn dog. My gaze caught a tattoo on one ass cheek, and I squinted at it, trying to make it out.

Tommy bent to snag the end of the towel—I caught sight of his sack and almost dissolved through the floor in an acidic puddle of embarrassment—but when he pulled, Gus spun around, ass in the air and tail wagging as he growled, pulling back.

A string of obscenities left Tommy’s mouth, but I was still gaping and staring at his ass. I realized that I was laughing. It sounded like someone else in a different room.

I wondered absently if this was how it felt to have a stroke.

Another big wow from me! The EPIC conclusion has finally arrived. I’ve been Aleath’d and Leath’d, and I can honestly say never have I been so enthralled with a series like this one. I’ve always said, “No, I’m not a big fan of suspense, romantically or otherwise”. But this series has completely changed my point of view. I dare you not to enjoy it as much as I did!

Araneae and Sterling were a couple destined to come together, to be together. They were compatible in every way. However, the secrets that surrounded them both were about to be revealed. A journey which wasn’t easy, the dangers and the dangerous were always on the sidelines, waiting to cause havoc.

Sterling will protect Araneae at any cost even if it meant she wasn’t happy by the method he chose. She wants to live her life with the freedom to roam. Not locked up like a bird in a gilded cage. This certainly made their relationship more interesting and sometimes funny in dialogue.

Sterling and Araneae will take this last step on their journey together, trying to figure out what the secrets were that had been following Araneae all her life. No stone would be left unturned. Questions which we had throughout this series will once and for all be answered.

This was a love story that came with twists and turns, drama and laughter and lots of secrets. But will all be conquered? I loved how the author took this story and gave it so much angst, keeping me hooked right up to the end. I fell in love with Sterling. When he loves, he loves wholeheartedly. His childhood memories weren’t always happy but after meeting Araneae that was all about to change. To have a man love you as much as that warms your heart and gives hope to those ladies who are still looking for “the one” haha!

I know what you’re going to say. “It’s just a book”. But, it was a book that grabs from the first page and takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride right alongside them. On a serious note, again I urge you to read this series. You won’t be disappointed. Congratulations to the author on another great read. #FANFORLIFE

The twisted and intriguing storytelling that you loved in Consequences and Infidelity is coming back at you with an all-new alpha anti-hero in the dark romance series Web of Sin, by New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig.

I’m Sterling Sparrow. You’ve no doubt heard my name or read it on the top of tall buildings. There’s more to my business—my realm—than what is seen above ground.

Within the underbelly of one of America’s largest cities lives a world where a man’s word is either his most valuable tool or his most respected weapon. When my father ruled that world and that city, he promised me someone who would one day make my reign complete.

Since that day, long ago, Araneae McCrie has been mine.

She just didn’t know.

4.5 Stars ~ Reviewed by Anna on behalf of KFF

This is a dark romance that contains some triggers so a bit of warning to the sensitive readers. I must say though that this author is one of the best in this genre and this book got me hooked and emotionally invested in Brochan and Emerald’s tragic story.

When Emerald was seventeen, she spent the summer with her Nona. A privileged girl from a rich family she meets twenty-one-year-old Brochan and fell in love with him. But little did she know that their young love will turn their lives upside down and tear them apart and those around them. Is there hope for these two lovers?

Brochan/Micaden was quite taken with young Emerald and although his status isn’t quite up to Emerald’s family’s standards, he didn’t really care. Young love is all that matters, isn’t it? Brochan’s love turns into hate when he was taken away from Emerald and revenge is his ultimate goal.

“What happens when a victim and persecutor meet in a fight where there’s no hope in sight?
So many possibilities. Roles might shift or they won’t. Strengths might be tested or they aren’t. Emotions can cloud judgments or they can’t. One truth stays the same though. They live in the roles until one of them dies.
Let the game begin, and may the stronger one win.”

The passionate connection between Emerald and Brochan will build up your hope and will shatter your heart to pieces. Some events after their separation are quite harrowing, but are integral to the story and will make you understand how Micaden’s character developed into a vengeful monster. This narrative told in the past and present in alternating points of view is a well-written tale of a modern-day Romeo and Juliet but with a much darker side. The appearance of Lachlan and other characters in previous books by the same author is a welcome bonus, too. There are so many angles and layers to this dark story that will leave you emotional and at times, disturbed. This is the third book I’ve read by Mason and it won’t be the last. If you need a book that will fire up your guts and heart and if you are one of those who craves for stories that have more bite than a unicorn’s, then this one is for you.

EXCERPT

“Are you sure about this? There’s no going back.”

Hollow laughter echoes through the space. A familiar hatred settles deep inside me, fed by fury that knows no mercy. “Oh, I’m sure.”

Everyone has to pay for what they’ve done to me.

Especially her.

About the author

V.F.Mason always loved reading books and had quite a few fights with her momma over the genre she liked (romance, duh!) She studied film-making and thought that would feed her desire for stories, but that didn’t happen. Finally, when she was tired of all those voices in her head, she sat down and wrote a book. It was a huge decision to make and she thanks her friends and family for supporting her in it. When she is not writing, she can be found with her friends doing all sorts of crazy things or reading recent romance books that were written by her favorite authors.

Have you ever read a book that was so so good that when you get to the last word on the last page, you know you need to write the review and you think to yourself, where do I begin!

Francesca Rossi was beautiful, sheltered and protected from the outside world like all good Italian girls. She thought she had her life all mapped out for her. Marry a good Italian boy, have babies and live happily ever after. But that was all about to change…

Wolfe Keaton. Wolf by name, wolf by nature. Commanding, gorgeous and utterly ruthless. I love him already! From an early age, he has been striving for one thing. The downfall of one man. The hatred for this man was buried so deep inside of him that he will use any means to make it happen. Nothing will stand in his way…His name, Arthur Rossi.

He stole her kiss! A kiss that was meant for the man of her dreams, the man she would spend the rest of her life with. Was he sorry? Hell no! It’s all part of his intricate plan to make her his and make those close to her suffer. She was but a pawn in his sadistic game of revenge.

Francesca’s fate was sealed, there was no escape. Her feelings for Wolfe Keaton was of hatred and lust. Yes! Her body betrayed her. Her feelings for him grew as time went on and she could feel his coldness and nonchalant attitude towards her start to thaw. There was so much standing in their way. So many enemies and misunderstandings. Would they get their happy ever after?

I tried to word this review without giving too much away. But I feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface. How could I possibly do this book justice which by the way, had kept me up all night! The story flowed well in all its intricacies. The feelings, the depths of these characters were splayed out on every page. They may not have known it from the start, but they were a perfect match for each other. She had attitude and sass, she wasn’t that meek Italian girl that everyone took her for. Wolfe may have been cold on the outside but you knew that the love of a good woman would change that. It was circumstance that had made him the way he was.

Last but not least a note for the author. I am a big fan of your work and your work just keeps on getting better. Your style of writing and storytelling astounds me every time and leaves me in awe of your talent. This is one book that will stay with me for a very long time. Thank you for sharing. Bravo, congratulations!

“Are you sure you’re on my card?” I turned to the man with a polite yet distant smile. I was still disoriented from the exchange with Angelo when the stranger pulled me against his hard body and pressed a possessive hand lower than socially acceptable on my back, a second from groping my butt.

“Answer me,” I hissed.

“My bid on your card was the highest,” he replied dryly.

“The bids are undisclosed. You don’t know how much other people have paid,” I kept my lips pursed to keep myself from yelling.

“I know it’s nowhere near the realm of what this dance is worth.”

Un-freaking-believable.

We began to waltz around the room as other couples were not only spinning and mingling but also stealing envious glances at us. Naked, raw ogles that told me that whomever the blonde he’d come to the masquerade with was, she wasn’t his wife. And that I might have been all the rage in The Outfit, but the rude man was in high demand, too.

I was stiff and cold in his arms, but he didn’t seem to notice—or mind. He knew how to waltz better than most men, but he was technical, and lacked warmth and Angelo’s playfulness.

“Nemesis.” He took me by surprise, his rapacious gaze stripping me bare. “Distributing glee and dealing misery. Seems at odds with the submissive girl who entertained Bishop and his horsey wife at the table.”

I choked on my own saliva. Did he just call the governor’s wife horsey? And me submissive? I looked away, ignoring the addictive scent of his cologne, and the way his marble body felt against mine.

“Nemesis is my spirit animal. She was the one to lure Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection and died of vanity. Pride is a terrible illness.” I flashed him a taunting smirk.

“Some of us could use catching it.” He bared his straight white teeth.

“Arrogance is a disease. Compassion is the cure. Most gods didn’t like Nemesis, but that’s because she had a backbone.”

“Do you?” He arched a dark eyebrow.

“Do I…?” I blinked, the courteous grin on my face crumpling. He was even ruder when we were alone.

“Have a backbone,” he provided. He stared at me so boldly and intimately, it felt like he breathed fire into my soul. I wanted to step out of his touch and jump into a pool full of ice.

“Of course, I do,” I responded, my spine stiffening. “What’s with the manners? Were you raised by wild coyotes?”

“Give me an example,” he said, ignoring my quip. I was beginning to draw away from him, but he jerked me back into his arms. The glitzy ballroom distorted into a backdrop, and even though I was starting to notice that the man behind the demi-mask was unusually beautiful, the ugliness of his behavior was the only thing that stood out.

I am a warrior and a lady…and a sane person who can deal with this horrid man.

“I really like Angelo Bandini.” I dropped my voice, slicing my gaze from his eyes and toward the table where Angelo’s family had been seated. My father was sitting a few seats away, staring at us coldly, surrounded by Made Men who chatted away.

“And see, in my family, we have a tradition dating back ten generations. Prior to her wedding, a Rossi bride is to open a wooden chest—carved and made by a witch who lived in my ancestors’ Italian village—and read three notes written to her by the last Rossi girl to marry. It’s kind of a good luck charm mixed with a talisman and a bit of fortunetelling. I stole the chest tonight and opened one of the notes, all so I could rush fate. It said that tonight I was going to be kissed by the love of my life, and well…” I drew my lower lip into my mouth and sucked it, peering under my eyelashes at Angelo’s empty seat. The man stared at me stoically, as though I was a foreign film he couldn’t understand. “I’m going to kiss him tonight.”

“That’s your backbone?”

“When I have an ambition, I go for it.”

A conceited frown crinkled his mask, as if to say I was a complete and utter moron. I looked him straight in the eye. My father taught me that the best way to deal with men like him was to confront, not run. Because, this man? He’d chase.
