Iron-Crowne-cover.jpg

Byron Crowne is a charming liar and a gorgeous monster.

I detest him.

I can’t resist him.

He’s awakened desires I didn’t know I had.

When he touches me, I need to fight him . . . and I need him to win.

Our one night stand bruises my skin and leaves dents in the walls, but the sheets aren’t the only thing we shred that night.

And suddenly, the stakes are higher than ever.

***

Olivia Monroe lights a fire in me that died a long time ago.

I’m a different man when I’m with her. I need to own her, take her, mark her as mine.

Everything changes when she might be pregnant and for the first time in my life . . . I’m powerless against this stubborn, untamable woman.

She’s the one in control and I have an impossible job:

Prove I’m worthy to be a father.

SNEAK PEEK

“I think,” he said. “Down deep, where your hunger meets your heart, you want to be dominated. You want to submit your pleasure to me. So. Show me.”

The flash of sensation tingled between my thighs with such power my eyelids fluttered. His voice was a sparking fuse that ended between my legs.

“I hate you,” I whispered.

“I know.”

Meet CD Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

This is the continuation of Gabriela and Stefan’s story and starts where Collateral ended.

Stefan is still domineering, commands attention and sexy as hell. Gabriela is still determined and defiant. Wow, what an impact that the first chapter was. Again I’m hooked on this marvellous story by Natasha Knight.

Gabriela plans to escape, take an unexpected turn. Awash with fear and in pain, she finds herself in darkness, scared at what is to become of her. Stefan is out of his mind. Someone has taken what is his and they will not be getting away with it. The rage inside him is burning fierce. The hatred he feels for her and her father is slowly changing. He still hates her father, but the feelings he has for Gabriela are leaving him confused.

Scared is not the word, Gabriela is petrified. She’s going to die. How will she survive this? Is this Stefan’s doing or her father’s? So many questions and no answers. Stefan is powerful and the head of the family. He has many enemies and any one of them could be behind this.

The dynamics between this couple was explosive. They fed off each other. She gave as good as she got and he gave it right back. Neither one was backing down and this is what made this book an exciting read.

This book packed a punch. It’s the perfect conclusion to this enemies-to-lovers dark intense Mafia story, but will your questions eventually be answered? And the twist comes as a surprise, or does it? I always knew there was something shady with about character. Have I piqued your interest yet?

I’m not giving too much away because I want you to read it. You need to read it! The author included so much in this story of love, suspense and betrayal. It’s well written and the story flowed throughout.

It will be interesting to see if any other characters from this book get their own story. Congratulations to the author. You’ve become one of my favs. Five well-deserved stars.

It’s midnight when we’re back at the house and I carry her to my room. She doesn’t resist when I strip off her clothes, her underthings still damp, and put her in the shower under a flow of hot water. I strip too and step in beside her and there’s no resistance when I kiss her. When I take her in my arms and kiss her as the water washes sea salt from us.She opens to me and I cup the back of her head. I don’t ever want to stop kissing her. Don’t ever want to stop holding her like this. When the water begins to cool, I switch off the shower and dry her then myself before lifting her up and carrying her to my bed. I lay her down and lie down beside her, shifting so I’m on top of her but keeping most of my weight on my forearms so I don’t crush her.I slide one hand down and cup the mound of her breast. I run my fingernail over her nipple, and she moans into my mouth. When I pull away, it’s to look at her.She licks her lips, reaches up to touch my cheek, slides her hand down to my chest and sets it against my heart. We don’t talk. We don’t say a single word. Not for a long while. We just kiss and kiss and look at each other. And I can’t get enough of touching her. Tasting her. Can’t get close enough to her.

“Christ, Gabriela,” I start. “I want you.” I roll off her and onto my side to slide my hand down over her belly.

She cups my cheek, touches her mouth to mine. “Kiss me again.”

I do.

Gabriela

Stefan Sabbioni showed up uninvited in my bedroom on my sixteenth birthday. He stood in the shadows smelling of whiskey and death and wrapped a broken, blood-crusted necklace around my neck. I thought he’d strangle me with it.

That night, he left a message for my father. He said he’d be back to take something precious.

I never delivered that message, though. I wonder if things would be different if I had because now, two years later, he’s back. And he’s not hiding in any shadows.

He’s come to make good on his promise.

He’s back to take that something precious.

Me.

Stefan

Marchese is the manipulator of my family’s tragedy. I won’t just bring him to his knees. I’ll bury him for what he did.

Taking his daughter is only the beginning. I’ll do it knowing I’m starting a war. I’ll do it knowing my enemies will become his allies. They’ll stop at nothing to destroy me and he’ll stop at nothing to get her back.

I’ve never shied away from war, though. I’m not one to play nice and I don’t share my toys. I’ll demolish you if you touch what’s mine.

And she is most definitely mine.

I just want to be a normal guy for a few weeks. So when I leave Chicago for some peace and quiet, the last thing I expect is for a gorgeous woman to literally fall into my lap on a flight to Alaska. Wow, this book titillates the reader in all the right places! I tried putting Hunting’s latest offering down at daft o’clock but to no avail ‘cause it’s far, far too addictive. And although it’s a romantic comedy, the author’s take on a delicate subject gave the story such a sensitive touch it got me sniffling into my pillow more than once. Hunting’s gone back to ice hockey with this stand-alone spinoff from the highly popular Pucked Series which also happens to be a sport I adore. A Lie for a Lie is a marvellous read in the respect that most of the characters are lovely, relatable and makes you want to be with them.

“Thank you for being my personal support person and human teddy bear.”

Chapter one and we’re in the now, RJ crossing paths with the gorgeous and timid Lainey. He picks up on her intense discomfort, calms her down and is so understanding, my heart melted. Ahh, but not being entirely frank with her could just come back and bite him where it hurts the most. Hmm…where could that be you may ask! I loved the way Hunting set the foundation of the plot so quickly, had me on edge and provoked all the feels at a page-turning pace.

‘There were a lot of women in a very short span of time. Sometimes more than one at a time. It was bad. I’m not proud.’

Well-known as a lady’s man, RJ’s got it all. NHL team captain, his drop-dead gorgeous looks attract the puck bunnies like bees to a honeypot. Not happy with the way he’s been running his personal life, he wants to escape their advances and be that normal kinda guy for a while. I really and truly liked RJ. Obviously well off, he never flaunts it. His teammates respect him, he gets on with their women, loves their kids and has a fabulous rapport with his siblings. In fact, I couldn’t find fault with him yet when he doesn’t come clean with Lainey, I could have strangled him.

“…And even if she’s willing to talk to me, once she realizes what else I left out she’ll probably never want to speak to me again.”

Lainey won be over at the drop of a hat. Her contrasting traits which funnily enough don’t clash, are so well-described that I ended up rooting for her throughout the read. To begin with, she comes across as quite nerdy. Her love of marine life is the reason she’s taken a trip to Alaska but she never expected her time there would evolve as it did. Everything goes wrong only to be righted. However, what would happen leaves confusion in its wake. Even though she’s shy, she’d learnt to trust RJ and thought he had the same feelings for her as she had for him. Indeed, Hunting gave the story a powerful edge with all the goings-on and in the process, my attention didn’t waver for a minute.

“My respect for you just went up a few notches. I had no idea you were into the nerdy chicks.”
“She’s not nerdy,”

Although the book isn’t split into two parts, there’s definitely a before and after-feel about it. The after hit me just as strongly since everything comes pouring out. And believe you me, I wasn’t the only person who was left stunned, shocked, even dazzled! I can’t say anything regarding the outcome of them finding each other again but wow, Hunting most certainly nipped it in the bud with her brilliant story-telling.

Despite the team camaraderie and family ambience bowling me over, I had very mixed feelings for Lainley’s parents and saluted her when she stood up for herself. The title also gave me food for thought and I’d love you to decide for yourselves if not being honest can be considered a lie. In this case, distorting the truth and letting it slide was a lot easier than finding that perfect moment to confess. Of course, the big question here is will they forgive each other. I can’t tell you how much I loved RJ and Lainey’s story overflowing with tenderness, surprises and plenty of smiles. Bravo Hunting!

I stuff my earbuds in and cue up a movie on my entertainment console. After the last flight, I deserve three hours of brain candy.
Just as I settle on an action flick, a body lands in my lap. At first, I think I’m being accosted—yet again. It’s not unusual for women to literally throw themselves at me. Typically I’m not on a plane, though, but considering my last flight I shouldn’t be surprised by anything right now. “What the—”
“I’m so sorry!” says the voice attached to the body in my lap. She scrambles to right herself but jerks back, gagging, her tidal wave of silky, dark hair slapping me in the face. It smells like mint and cucumber, which would be nice if it weren’t in my mouth.
She grabs my shirt with one hand and catches my earbuds, yanking them free. The other hand curls under the fabric wrapped tightly around her throat. She’s sprawled across my lap, legs hanging over the armrest, face level with mine. She’s totally blocking the aisle, making it impossible for anyone to get by and creating quite the spectacle. “My scarf is caught,” she rasps. “Oh my God. I’m choking myself. I’m so sorry. This is so embarrassing.” The more she struggles, the more the scarf tightens, which in turn causes her to flail.
I slide a supporting arm behind her. “Stay still for a sec.”
She freezes, still gripping my shirt, eyes wide with panic. I turn my head to the side and lean forward. Her lips connect with my cheek.
“Oh!” She tries to turn away, but she really is stuck, so her nose ends up in my ear and her lips are still pressed against my jaw.
“Just give me a few more seconds, and you’ll be free.” She exhales heavily against my jaw, warm breath making my skin prickle. I lift her carry-on and use my foot to pull the scarf free from the wheel.
She loosens the fabric around her throat, dragging in a long, deep breath. “Thank you. So much. Choking to death on an attractive man’s lap really isn’t the way I wanted to go.” She squeezes her eyes shut and pushes to a stand. “I’m so sorry.”
She keeps her gaze averted as she gathers up the scarf that never seems to end. It gives me time to check her out. Well, shit. This woman is hot. Like Pour a gallon of gasoline on me and light me on fire hot. She has long dark hair, a shade of brown so deep it’s nearly black. Her eyes are the color of coffee or chocolate—something with caffeine in it. Something that would amp me up. And her face . . . daaaaamn. High cheekbones, full lips, a dainty nose, arched brows, thick lashes.
I take in the rest of the package, which gives me pause because her outfit is just . . . out there. She’s wearing a full-on parka, hiding her figure, but based on her legs I’m thinking she’s probably slender. That’s a guess, though, with all the layers she has going on. And that scarf has to be a mile long with how many times she winds it around her neck, hence the near strangulation.
Her little wardrobe malfunction has resulted in a line of people waiting to board, so she rushes down the aisle, throwing another “So sorry” over her shoulder as she disappears into coach.
I’m almost disappointed. Almost, but not quite. I plug my earbuds back in and veg out to movies for the next three hours.

Lainey vs. Puck Bunnies in A Lie for a Lie

A Lie for a Lie is a heartwarming, sexy, emotional romantic comedy. It’s a second chance romance, filled with secrets and there are definitely some exciting, fun twists. It’s also a story of empowerment, self-discovery, and independence.

Rook Bowman, aka RJ or Rookie as he has been known as previously, has recently taken on the role as captain of Chicago’s NHL team, and with that role comes big responsibility and more fame than he sometimes knows how to handle. As with any professional sport, the NHL lifestyle can often be full of excess and decadence; money, fame and an endless stream of women who will do just about anything to get into bed with them, and it’s not always easy to avoid that kind of temptation.

When we meet Rook in A Lie for a Lie we learn that he has a less than shiny past when it comes to the excess and the puck bunnies (hockey groupies). NHL players are often drafted quite young—just watch a game and you’ll notice that the rookies can often barely grown peach fuzz, let alone a full beard. They’re still teenagers when they start their careers, and Rook was no different. Having grown up on an alpaca farm in rural New York, his focus was mainly hockey and the family farm, but once he hit the pros he found himself surrounded by women who literally threw themselves at him. And being young, attractive and full of testosterone, he fell headfirst down that rabbit hole. At least until the drama found him in the form of a fake pregnancy and a social media firestorm. Because of that, and the impact it had on his relationship with his family, Rook swears off the bunnies and refocuses on his career, rather than extracurricular activities.

He meets Lainey on the way to Alaska, where he’s gone every summer since he was a teenager with his dad and his brother. He lost his father a few years earlier, but kept the tradition with his brother because he craves the escape from the demands of his life as an NHL superstar. Lainey encapsulates everything he misses about being a “normal guy.” She doesn’t recognize him or seem to even know anything about hockey, and that makes her even more alluring. For once, he can just be himself. He doesn’t have to worry about ulterior motives or being used. Lainey is refreshingly innocent, incredibly smart, genuine and overwhelmingly sweet and Rook finds himself enamored with her sense of adventure. As they get to know each other, Rook learns about her traumatic past and realizes that despite the challenges she’s faced, Lainey possesses a quiet strength and resilience. Add some insane chemistry and you’ve got a recipe for love. Unfortunately for Rook, he built their entire fragile relationship on a lie he can’t take back.

When Lainey excuses herself to the bathroom, I rush upstairs and throw on a T-shirt. I know she said whatever makes me comfortable, but sitting around shirtless is such a douche move.I make it back to the kitchen and pour her a fresh drink before she returns from the bathroom.“How can I help with dinner?” Lainey drapes her sweater over the back of a chair. And my mouth goes dry. Like I ate an entire sleeve of saltines and chased it with a tablespoon of salt. So far I’ve only seen Lainey in a giant parka or an oversize sweater. Under all that bulky fabric is one hell of a body. She’s wearing a simple white waffle shirt that conforms to her curves. A pair of dark-wash skinny jeans encase her toned legs.

I’m used to bunnies throwing themselves at me, often in questionable states of undress. I stopped getting excited about miniskirts and revealing tops a long time ago. There’s something infinitely sexier about a woman who can show off her body without actually showing it off at all.

Lainey tips her head to the side. Her teeth press into her full bottom lip. I want to do that. Suck that pouty, full lip between my teeth and bite it. I want to do a lot of other, far more explicit things than that, but a kiss seems like a good place to start.

“RJ? Is everything okay?” Her eyes dip down to my chest. I’m wearing a shirt from one of my endorsement campaigns. It afforded me the extensive renovations on this cabin a few years ago.

“Huh?” I give my head a shake. “Oh. Yeah. Everything’s good. Sorry, zoned out there for a second.”

She smiles and pushes up on her toes, her eyes twinkling—like, they legit light up, and her excitement makes her entire body vibrate. It also makes her boobs jiggle. I try to keep my eyes glued to her face. It’s not easy, though.

“I do that all the time! Sometimes my brain is busy with so many thoughts I miss entire conversations. Does that happen to you too?”

I grin. I love that she seems to say whatever is on her mind. “All the time.”

“It’s actually a helpful skill when you’re being lectured, because I can sort through stuff in my head, but it’s not so great when your supervising professor is telling you what’s wrong with your thesis.” She pulls her hair over her shoulder and finger combs it.

“I take it that’s happened to you.”

“It did. Thankfully he also emailed all his criticisms, so missing out on it the first time wasn’t that big of a deal.” She divides her hair into three sections and deftly braids it without looking at what she’s doing even once. It’s pretty damn impressive. I almost want to pull it apart so I can watch her do it all over again. “Anyway, enough about that. Let’s get started on dinner!” She nudges me out of the way so she can wash her hands. She dries them on her jeans and moves over to the fridge, opening it to check out the contents.

I kind of like that she makes herself at home. I’m used to women who expect to be catered to. It’s refreshing to meet someone who doesn’t want me to pander to her.

I start pulling things out of the fridge as she starts naming items she’ll need and set them on the counter. I manage to locate most of what she asks for.

“What about garlic? Do you have any of that?” She leans over, peering into the fridge beside me. Her braid slips over her shoulder, skimming my arm.

“Uh, maybe we could forgo the garlic?”

“Are you allergic? My oldest brother gets bloated when he eats it. It took us forever to figure out what was causing it. Sometimes I’ll still put some in when he’s coming for dinner, because it’s funny to see him look like he’s expecting.” She tips her head to the side. “Or you just don’t like garlic?”

“I like it sometimes, but it depends.”

Her brows pinch together. “On what?”

“Who I’m eating with. I mean, if I’m going out with buddies, you bet I’m gonna order the honey garlic wings, or the cheesy garlic bread, or the pasta Alfredo. But if I’m eating dinner with a pretty girl, I’m gonna pass on the garlic.”

“Oh.” She twists the end of her braid around her finger.

I hope I’m not reading things wrong and making her uncomfortable.

“Does that mean you think I’m pretty?”

That she sounds genuinely curious as to my answer is unexpected. “You see yourself in the mirror every day—what do you think?”

She averts her gaze, still playing with the end of her braid. “My eyes are too big, so I always look like I’m surprised. My nose is small, and my lips are too full, so my mouth doesn’t really fit the rest of my face.”

“Wow. I think you need a new mirror, because all I see is a whole lot of gorgeous.”

She snorts a laugh and waves me off. “Once, I took a portrait class, and we learned all about proportion and symmetry of the face. Those are just my flaws based on what I was taught.”

“Well, I’m a big fan of all your flaws, and I think they make you more beautiful, not less.”

“Thanks. I think you’re beautiful too.” She cringes. “I mean handsome. You’re very nice to look at, with or without a shirt on. When I fell in your lap on the airplane, I remember thinking, At least I fell on someone nice looking.”

“Is that so?”

“Mm-hmm.” She opens a drawer, maybe to avoid looking at me. “And as much as I was mortified when you sat beside me on the Cessna, I couldn’t complain about the view, inside or outside of the plane. That you turned out to be really nice, and just so helpful, was a great bonus.” She hands me a roll of foil. “Why don’t you wrap the potatoes? They take the longest, so we should get started on those first.”

I put the potatoes on the barbecue and let Lainey order me around. She definitely knows her way around a kitchen. When I was growing up, my mom did most of the cooking, but my dad could make a mean Saturday-morning brunch. He also made great bread, which I miss a lot.

An hour later we’re seated at the table, plates full of steak, twice-baked potatoes, and crispy brussels sprouts cooked in bacon fat. I open a bottle of red wine and offer Lainey a glass.

“Just a little bit? I’m not sure I like red wine.”

“Maybe you just haven’t had the right red wine.” I pour a little into her glass.

She picks it up and gives it a swirl, then sniffs it. “I’ve seen people do this in the movies, but I don’t really know what the point is,” she admits, then tips the glass back and takes a tentative sip. Her expression turns thoughtful; then she takes another, slightly more robust sip. “This is actually really nice. I like it. Maybe the red wine I had before was bad.”

“Maybe. Some of the cheap stuff tastes pretty awful.” I pour more into her glass before filling mine. I hold up my glass and wait for her to raise hers.

“To chance meetings.”

“To new adventures and great company to share them with.” We toast and take a sip, each smiling behind the rim.

This is my first book by this author and is a powerful story about revenge and the (family) ties that bind.

Veronica de Winters formerly known as Ronnie Danvers is a woman who was wronged when she was young and is now on the road to revenge. Raised by a loving and hardworking mother, Ronnie was a smart girl and worked as hard as her mum. A sudden turn of events changed her life and she vowed to get back at the people she deemed responsible for her heartbreak.

“Always do better than your opponents, whatever it is, always have something up your sleeve that will trump them.”

This book is written in the third person narrative of which isn’t really to my liking. I think that writing a story this way lessens the impact of the drama and emotional scenes an author wants to convey to her readers. I couldn’t feel the character’s inner thoughts and I missed this connection with Vee. The author wrote Vee’s character as a smart, cunning and ambitious girl who grows up to be a powerhouse of a woman. I like books that portray a strong heroine, one that is not perfect and has hidden flaws. What I wasn’t so keen on was the choppy way it was narrated. It would have been better if the timelines had been divided into chapters instead of paragraphs which confused me at some point or other. (A note to the author, I believe that the correct phrase is “air quotes” and not “air commas”.)

The secondary characters sometimes eclipse the heroine. Lorcan and his partner Ian, Vee’s guardians, is the perfect balance to Vee’s stoic persona. Alistair Gerrard is the romantic interest and features in the early chapters but does not appear again until the last quarter of the story thus, he is more of a secondary character in my opinion. Then you have Nick as the wonderful father who gives Vee a new start in life and Imelda, his wife, who doesn’t seem to be the stereotypical evil stepmother.

There is some romance thrown in the story but this tale is all about Vee De Winters, her childhood, her loss and her rise to power. I am giving Vee’s story an added half a star because even though there were more than a few errors, the plot and storyline are brilliant.
