The devil’s spawn is how he sees himself. A simple blunt object ready to accomplish his task, digging deeper into the murky water that is the world he lives in. Within the first chapter, there is a revelation that puts JD in a cruel light. A role that the further I read, the more it seemed impossibly unthinkable. JD had spent his entire adult life playing a game that had the highest stakes. A long game better than any I have witnessed. Coming into a world so vastly under-explained, I felt like I was often listening to people talking an unknown language. And in certain aspects, I guess I was. JD knows more of the back story than Gabrielle and he’s so truly torn between right, wrong and her.

‘“Such a good girl. You remembered what I told you. I need you to remember everything I tell you. I need you to obey me–always. Will you do that?”

She lowers her eyes and nods. And more than anything, I want it to be the truth. It’s the only real hope I have for keeping her safe.’

The daughter of a staff member and the Gentlemen’s son, very much an age-old trope, only in this book it’s so very different. From the very beginning of their relationship years ago; JD had promised Gabrielle that he would always keep her safe and in my mind, this has never ever changed. Sure, he certainly does the wrong things; but most assuredly he does them for the rightest of reasons.

‘…this lacks human decency in a way that our dirtiest sex never did. And what scares me the most isn’t that I’ll hate every second of his touch, but that I’ll enjoy it. Begin to crave it, like I craved it before. The signs are all pointing to the fact that no matter how much I lash out at him, no matter how much I want to hate him, my body–and my heart–remember. They miss him.’

Gabrielle is a marionette pulled this way and that by not only JD but other characters and the strings they pull. A woman trying to build her business and live a peaceful life, well, that is until JD stomps back into her life making outlandish demands. Demands, I myself would probably flay him alive for making.

Because of the nature of their relationship, there are huge amounts of angst. Gabrielle fear is having her heart broken again and JD fears he will never be able to keep her truly safe. If only he told her everything I have a feeling she’d still not make her own safety a priority but for him, she’d do something. What I really love about a second chance romance is how emotions are rawer, edgier, even darker. There’s an unwritten subtext that enthralls me as the reader. Paragraphs of text deepen the emotion and tension of the story simply by walking down memory lane.

‘The woman in the mirror isn’t a fool. She’s strong and smart. She knows what she wants. And the man standing behind her? The one she’s loved all her life? She wants him. With all his broken pieces. The nicked and dented fragments, and the twisted shards, beyond repair. Every one of them.’

JD is not an only child. The eldest of four boys, and with Gabrielle growing up at their home it meant that she knew all of them. For all, she was special in one or another. From my point of view, it always reminded me of Wendy with the Lost Boys in Neverland.

“I miss you. Miss you so much it hurts. I live with the pain every day. It’s crushing.”

‘I’m willing to live out my life alone, or with someone else. While no relationship will ever compare to the unrestrained passion I have with him, or the depth of connection we share, I can still have a full and loving relationship with someone else. I’ll learn to be content without the flames. They always seem to singe me anyway.’

Depraved is chock full of questions. Questions that even I didn’t think of until the character brought them up. JD’s father is the route to all evil and without saying much; he does remind me of someone very powerful but also very egocentric. Author’s idea or just me?

Thank goodness the second book releases so soon because I have zero patience and the cliffhanger at the end of Depraved was horrendous. It has been quite a while since I read a dark romance like this. I so relish when the timeline of a story is embedded in the past as well as the present. Thank you Ms. Charles, and well done.

GABRIELLE

“What exactly does this—arrangement—you’re proposing, entail?”

“I won’t delve into every salacious detail, because I know you’re fully aware of what it entails.”

Not an answer. “What do you expect from me?”

“You don’t really want me to spell it out.”

“But I do. Spell it out, JD. Tell me exactly how you plan on degrading me, as though I’m not human. Go ahead,” I challenge. “I’m sure it’ll bring you lots of pleasure.”

“Gabrielle, you test my patience too often. One day you’ll get more than you bargained for.”

He’s fiddling with his knife. He can’t meet my eyes. He doesn’t want to say it. Something about it makes him uncomfortable. Somewhere inside he knows it’s wrong. I’m a bit relieved, but I won’t let him off the hook. I want him to squirm with discomfort. I want his stomach to churn until he tastes the bitter bile in his throat. I want whatever spark of conscience is left to keep him awake at night. If he wants to do this to me, he’s going to pay. “Spell. It. Out. Unless you’re too ashamed to say the words out loud.”

His eyes are black when he drags my chair to him, pinning my legs between his until I can’t move. His right thumb finds my chin, forcing me to meet his eyes. “It takes a lot to shame me. But we’re about to find out where you draw the line.”

I jerk my chin from his hold. In return, he squeezes his thighs around mine, holding them in a vise-like grip, the exquisite pressure forcing a bloom between my legs.

“You’ll get on your knees and put my cock in your sassy mouth any time I tell you to. After I come, you’ll lick every drop off your lips, and you’ll enjoy it. Just like you enjoyed it before. Like you enjoyed everything filthy thing I did to you. Are you ashamed yet, Gabrielle?” He lowers his head and the heat from his mouth grazes my temple. “I don’t think you are.”

My heart is racing. I can’t control it.

“Remember all those times I buried my face in your sweet pussy while you writhed under me? How you begged me to sink my cock into you? How you screamed and clawed before you trembled? It’ll be just like that. Only nothing is off limits this time. You were a dirty, greedy girl who begged shamelessly for release. I bet that hasn’t changed.” He runs a finger over my bare arm and I shiver. “You loved it then, all of it, and you’ll love it even more now.”

I maneuver back, and swing my arm to slap his face. But he catches it before I make contact. “I hate you.”

“You don’t hate me. You hate that you want to be under me again. If I stick my fingers in your pussy, it’ll tell the real story.” He lowers his head again, and murmurs near my ear. “Want me to do that? Slide a finger or two inside you? It’ll feel so good. Remember how much you liked it? This is just too much for you to process right now. You don’t know how you feel. I can help you figure it out. Let me.”

I’m aroused. Disgracefully aroused by his husky voice, his filthy words, and the memories of him pleasuring me. My core is throbbing. And I don’t need him to check if I’m wet. I’m drenched.

He’s right. I don’t hate him. I’m filled with unresolved anger, resentment, and hurt. And I’m confused. So confused. But if he stroked my breast, or brushed his fingers over the slick flesh between my thighs, I would press my pussy into his hand. No, I don’t hate him. I hate myself for being so weak.

THE WRONG GENTLEMAN by Louise Bay is LIVE!

We are thrilled to be sharing the release of bestselling author Louise Bay’s all-new contemporary romance stand-alone,
THE WRONG GENTLEMAN

Add to Goodreads

I’m an all-or-nothing man—100 percent focused on whatever has my attention.

First it was serving my country in the Special Forces. Then it was building my business. Right now it’s the hot blonde at the bar who’s about to become another notch on my bedpost.

But women never keep my attention for more than a night.

Until I peel off Skylar Anderson’s clothes and her mask starts to crumble, showing me glimpses of the girl she’s hiding. She’s funny, sexy and vulnerable and throws me out of bed before I can catch my breath and suggest breakfast.

When I start my last undercover job on a yacht, turns out, she’s one of the crew. I try, but I can’t look away.

Her high ponytail shows off her kissable neck that tastes like summer.

Her short uniform reveals the killer legs that were wrapped around me last night.

And her provocative smile? I know what that mouth is capable of.

I want to explore her body, discover her secrets and sail off into the sunset with her.

I might want to go all in for Skylar, but she should stay away from me. I’ve got secrets of my own and they can only bring her trouble.

Alternative synopsis from Skylar’s POV

The last thing I’m looking for is a man.
Scratch that.
The very last thing I’m looking for is love.
Love isn’t something to long for, it’s something to run from. I learned my lesson young and I learned it fast.
When Landon Wolf swaggers into my world, I just can’t see straight—he’s brooding and British, protective and provocative. So I set aside my rules for just one night.
One night that turns into a summer.
Landon Wolf needs to take his British ass back to London. This American girl is immune.
Impervious to the delicious way he says my name.
Unmoved by the way he touches me and makes every bad memory disappear.
And completely blind to his hard body, husky-like eyes and lickable jaw.
I’m not looking for love—I just hope it hasn’t found me.

THE WRONG GENTLEMAN is now available and only $2.99 this week!

Landan Wolf served in the special forces and then ran a lucrative business he’d recently sold making him extremely rich, opting for a quieter life. However, he’s been asked by an old friend to do one last mission on a luxury yacht. Landon never dates, just has hook-ups and sets his sights on the blonde in the bar before embarking on the task given to him. He’s taken aback by his latest conquest, Skylar Anderson. She wasn’t what he expected and moreover, she’s the one to kick him to the curb after their evening of passion. Landon doesn’t think he’ll see this girl who had surprisingly thrown him off-kilter again. He gets a further shock when discovering the yacht he embarks the mission on is for none other than her.

Skylar Anderson is a beautiful, smart, sassy girl. She doesn’t want to tie herself down to one man, loves her job working around the yacht for weeks on end and never stays in one place for long. Putting on a strong front makes people believe she’s happy with her life, but underneath I could clearly see a vulnerability. One thing’s for sure, she’s feelings inhibited from that one night with Landon. About to spend a whole lot of time working together at sea and nowhere to run, she has no idea that he isn’t your average deckhand.

Told in dual point of view, I loved getting the protagonists’ perspectives in the different scenarios that occur. The secondary characters are a great asset and getting an appearance from Landon’s brother, Hayden and his beloved Avery was phenomenal, too. The chemistry between Skylar and Landon just oozes off the pages and I thought they were incredibly sweet as their friendship grew. They kept themselves guarded from being more which I really liked. And it was refreshing to see a couple become close in other ways other than intimacy. Bay cannily put me on edge with Landon’s hidden secret, and I couldn’t help thinking it would blow up in his face at some point which had me worried for poor Skylar.

Ms. Bay’s words reeled me in and yet again, the talent for creating likeable characters with a very hot alpha was very well put together. Not only was the build-up throughout the story fabulous, but The Wrong Gentleman had everything I like in a good read. Hot characters, humour, mystery and complete intrigue. I highly recommend one-clicking up and diving straight in if a hot British man and sassy American appeals to you with an explosive edge to the book. Bravo Ms. Bay for an impeccably well-written love story!

“Did I tell you how beautiful you look tonight?” For some reason, Landon’s compliment didn’t make me wince the way some men’s comments did. Everything about him was different and it had thrown me off kilter. His warm breath on my neck shouldn’t have made me shiver. He shouldn’t ease the ever-present knot in my stomach or have me wanting to slide my hand into his as we walked. He shouldn’t make me feel safe. “You didn’t.”“Well, you do. Not that it’s any surprise.”“Because you’re a gentleman who prefers blondes,” I said, nudging him gently with my elbow, trying to lighten the mood.He pulled in a breath and scraped his hand through his hair. “I’m beginning to think I’m a man who just prefers you.”

I focused on the cobbled street in front of us. “Me?” Had I been mistaken about the ex-girlfriend in town or the girl on Tinder? I tried to hold my breath to ensure I heard his reply.

“Yeah, you. I like you. More and more.”

My stomach swooped, and I tried to think of a response. My head was telling me to run. Far away. I didn’t want to fall for anyone. I’d worked hard to stay single all these years—to keep away from temptation. But now, temptation right in front of me, I found myself rooted to the spot, wanting to know what was next. “Okay.”

“Okay?” he asked.

I nodded, unsure of what to say. Unsure of how I felt. I knew I found Landon attractive.

I knew I liked him too. But I also knew that I’d been single all these years for a reason.

He wrapped his large hand around my upper arm to steady me when I stumbled over a loose cobblestone. We stopped, and I looked up at him as he swept his thumb across my cheekbone. “I’m only going to ask you this once, and you don’t have to decide now, but stay with me tonight?”

“Landon . . .” Somehow, I couldn’t say no to him, even though I knew I shouldn’t say yes.

“Think about it.”

COVER & TRAILER REVEAL ~ NO FEELINGS INVOLVED by Siobhan Davis

NFI - CR banner.jpg

Can this sceptical player let down his guard long enough to let love into his life, or is this forbidden romance a train wreck in the making?

No Feelings Involved, an all-new steamy romance from USA Today bestselling author Siobhan Davis is coming March 31st!

NoFeelingsInvolved_ecover.jpg

Ryan James doesn’t believe in love.

It’s a truth he learned early in life. A truth he carried with him into adulthood. He broke his golden rule one time, but Myndi trampled all over his heart, cementing his belief that love is a lie and not worth the effort.

Now he’s returned to his cynical views and promiscuous lifestyle, racking up more notches on his bedpost than he can count.

Until Summer Petersen comes crashing into his world, threatening to knock down his walls with her tempting body and sunny, sweet personality.

Summer is determined to lose her V-card before she starts freshman year of college, and the hot, older guy with the cute dimples, dazzling smile, and rippling biceps is just the man for the job. Ryan doesn’t take much persuading, and he rocks her world, giving her a night to remember.

When they walk away, there’s an unspoken agreement it was a one-time thing. Ryan doesn’t do feelings, and Summer doesn’t want to be tied down at eighteen.

But when she moves into her brother Austin’s apartment, she’s shocked to discover her new roomie is the guy who recently popped her cherry.

Ryan can’t believe he slept with Austin’s baby sister, and if he finds out, he’ll literally kill him. Keeping their hook up a secret is nonnegotiable. Keeping his thoughts, and his hands, off Summer, less so. Because the longer he’s around her, the more he finds himself catching feelings for the gorgeous brunette.

Summer doesn’t want to care for her older brother’s best friend, but Ryan makes her feel things she’s never felt before, and she’s slowly falling under his spell.

Embarking on an illicit affair behind Austin’s back has train wreck written all over it, but provided they keep their feelings in check, they can end this before he ever finds out.

It’s not like either of them is in love.

Right?

Meet Nana

USA Today Bestselling Author, NANA MALONE’s love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she borrowed from her cousin on a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana at a precocious thirteen. She’s been in love with kick butt heroines ever since.

With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters. Waiting for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, Nana, meantime works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is.

The books in her series have been on multiple Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble best seller lists as well as the iTunes Breakout Books list and most notably the USA Today Bestseller list.

Until that ninja job comes through, you’ll find Nana working hard on additional books for her series as well as other fun, sassy romances for characters that won’t leave her alone. And if she’s not working or hiding in the closet reading, she’s acting out scenes for her husband, daughter and puppy in sunny San Diego.

Dead and Gone by Jennifer Rebecca is a romantic suspense, releasing 11th March

Cover by Alyssa Garcia at Uplifting Designs.

You ever have an out of body experience? Like one of those moments where you’re standing on a street corner watching yourself do something monumentally stupid? Something you know you shouldn’t do but you just can’t help yourself?

Three weeks ago, Trent and I were deep into the Honeymoon stage of love, I swore I wouldn’t be the first one to rock the boat—Lord knows with our two Irish tempers it would happen soon enough—so when he made me promise to keep my nose and our grandmothers out of his investigation, I did.

It didn’t hurt that his head was buried between my legs at the time either. But then Daisy called me begging for help and what kind of bestie would I be if I shut the door in her face? That’s right, a sh*tty one. So I packed up our grandmothers and their gogo boots, g-strings and pasties to get to the bottom of things. Only problem is if Trent catches us I’ll be dead meat, folks.

My name is Shelby Whitmore, Funeral and Obituaries columnist for the San Diego Metro News and most likely to be single again if I survive this sh*t. But hey, at least I’m still a hit with the blue hairs . . .

I’m dead meat. Literally. Dead. Meat.Last month, when Trent and I started up again, I promised him that I wouldn’t do anything crazy. I wouldn’t go off half cocked. And most importantly, I wouldn’t follow our grandmothers down the crazy assed rabbit hole of Granny Grabbers and Dangerous Dames.“You’re not police officers,” he had said. And I agreed. We’re not.

Trent also might have coerced me into agreeing with him in the most despicable ways. One minute my legs are wrapped around his neck and my eyes are rolled back in my head and I’m one more “Oh, yes,” away from the promised land.

“Shell,” he said to me in between licks and kisses. “Promise me you won’t do anything crazy.” He kissed me again and again.

“Yes,” I ignored him as I rocked against his mouth moving closer and closer.

“Promise,” he commanded as I spiraled closer and closer to the edge.

“Yes!” I cried.

“You promise?” He asked me again but I was too far gone.

“Sweet Petunia, yes!”

“I’m so glad we agree. You have no idea how happy this makes me, Shelby.” Trent smiled as he slithered up my body like the snake that he is.

Although, I had an idea how happy my climax had made him as it was currently poking me in the thigh. Before I had a chance to catch my breath or even question what, exactly, Trent and I agreed on, he slid all the way inside me to the hilt and my eyes rolled back in my head.

*****

As It turned out, we had allegedly agreed that I wouldn’t go on any more cappers with my friend, Daisy, the retired hooker, and our grandmothers. Sophia was out, she was at some big, fancy figure skating competition in Chicago.

I still agreed. I mean, what kind of trouble could two widowed senior citizens, a retired hooker, and an obituaries columnist for the local paper get into. I mean really. Lightning doesn’t strike twice. It doesn’t, right?

And Trent and I had worked out some kinks. He yelled less. I pretended to listen more. And when I didn’t he used his handsome mouth in better ways than yelling if you catch my drift. We were officially in the love bubble. The honeymoon stage. I wasn’t ready to rock the boat for just anything all willy nilly.

But Daisy, my sweet, fabulous, eccentrically dressed best friend had a problem. Several of her . . . ummm . . . colleagues from the old days were missing. Like really missing, not shacked up with a John. And she was worried. Yes, my sweet friend, Daisy, had a problem and she came to me for help, advice, I don’t really know what. All I know is that led me to today as I sit, handcuffed to the pipes of a bathroom sink in a filthy motel just this side of Mexico, dressed like a cheap hooker. Yep, I’m in trouble, folks. Just like I said . . . Dead. Meat. My name is Shelby Whitmore, funeral and obituaries columnist for the San Diego Metro News and most likely to be single again if I survive this shit. I guess I should start at the beginning . . .

Catch up on the series:

Dead and Buried

If you’ve read Tattered, you’ll be familiar with Sophia, Logan Kendrick’s sister. Can’t say I liked this lass much then but wait, her demeanour is deceiving. I think the word ‘spoilt’ is a tad inappropriate for her, misled fitting her better. How many of us went through the princess phrase when we were young? I certainly did! It shouldn’t last long, it’s forgotten and life takes its course. Sophia didn’t seem to me to break out of her cocoon because on her mother and father’s part, I felt a lack of encouragement to do so. I even agreed with one of her siblings who thought she was capricious and wrapped up in herself.

‘Seriously? Could you at least try not to embarrass us?’

Feeling down and out for reasons I couldn’t possibly divulge, off she goes to Lark Cove to lick her wounds. Now then, I have to give kudos to her sister-in-law. All said and done, if it weren’t for Thea’s craftiness and faith in Sophia, there wouldn’t have been a story! Would her surrogate boss be as sure as Thea? He’s in for a surprise; there’s nothing shallow about our heroine considering she’s about to have a wake-up call and believe you me, watching her spread her wings was a joy in itself.

“If you are trying to teach her some kind of lesson, let’s not put your business at risk. She’ll flake out.”

I can’t put into words how much I liked the rich gal meeting up with a proud working-class American Indian who I’d already had the pleasure of meeting. Seeing as Dakota Magee respects his family, it would be a tad harsh to say his role in a traditionally tight-knit community was wrong. His story was without a doubt an eye-opener for me, and I could clearly see that Perry had done her homework. He’d had the courage to break free with the help of a relative, his plans for the future and what life had to offer him made me embrace his enthusiasm! He’s drool-worthy too, so hang on to your panties ladies ‘cause this guy is hotter than hot!

‘His moral fiber ran so deep it was ingrained in his very being. With him, there were no games. No tricks. No ulterior motives.’

Not surprisingly, inner conflicts arise. I could see why Dakota wanted to make it on his own; his thoughts keeping me intrigued created quite a bit of angst too. How he would cope with family pressure, and his concern for an outsider being accepted in a culture which has steadfast traditions, caused him to reconsider his place in society. So, would he listen to his heart or to return to his roots? Hmm…there was quite a twist in the story here, making me hold my breath.

‘I admire my culture, my family tradition. But I wanted more. I wanted my freedom.’

Sizzling chemistry between the protagonists leaps off the pages and true to Perry’s style, the steaminess is tastefully written. Although Sophia bewilders and astonishes Dakota at every turn, certain issues contribute to unrest. Is he interested in her healthy bank account? Can she trust him? Seeing as their situation is a complicated one, plenty of hurdles have to be resolved if they’re going to have a chance at happiness. But what I like more than anything was how Dakota brought out the best in her which up until their sensitive relationship began, had been well-hidden.

“Her money was still an issue for me. Her heritage.”

The author’s heartwarming romance not only ticked all the right boxes but more important, stirred all my emotions. For me, the narrative in past tense from a dual point of view was perfectly balanced, giving the reader every opportunity to really get to know how Dakota and Sophia felt. If you looking for a read which gives overwhelming feelings of love, this one is for you. Bravo Perry!

“I’m never going to be able to provide you the life you’re used to.”
