What I can say about Jodi’s books that can be summed up in just a few words to entice you into reading them, mmm…I would have to say unapologetically British! I know some authors write their books in American English to appeal to a wider audience but not Ms. Malpas! She doesn’t mess about! I’m sure her fans across the world have got used to the lingo by now so they will be delighted. As a true Brit, it was music to my ears!
“With Theo in my present, I know my past can’t touch me.”
I honestly never thought this author could come close to the love I have Jesse Ward from the This Man series but she’s certainly giving him a run for his money. Ok, so let’s discuss Theo Kane in more detail because let’s face it, I’ve teased you just a little. He’s definitely of the Alpha Male variety without a doubt but like them all; they have a weak spot. He’s also dangerous, utterly gorgeous, of course, downright irresistible. I’m not going to tell you why he’s so like he is as it’s heart-breaking but rest assured, you’ll understand his manner and why he chooses to live the life the way he does. Izzy sees him as a contradiction, hard on the outside but also oh so soft and vulnerable underneath. Theo has more than suffered and now he thinks he should pay for his past but along comes Izzy who effectively blows that strategy straight out of the window.
“I haven’t just dipped a toe into Theo’s world. I’ve dived headfirst.”
Izzy also has a past which she does her best to hide. When Theo meets her, she feels she’s safe but at the same time also on high alert for any potential threats. Izzy isn’t interested in Theo to start out with but soon succumbs to his advances. Little does she know her world is about to be rocked. She’s a strong character; feisty and not at all one to be wooed but it seems she’s immune to Theo’s advances. Yes, ladies, he’s that irresistible.
“For a big dude, you’re quite cute.”
“For a little female, you’re quite fierce.”
I have to admit at one point I thought I knew where this story was going and I did feel a little let down, but then the story took me in a completely different direction. After this, I couldn’t turn the pages quick enough. The shock in this story wasn’t the story per se, no, it was the fact that Ms. Malpas went over to the dark side. In all her books we have angst, passion, unbelievable chemistry from the main protagonists but never a storyline which took that particular turn. For some, it may be a little too much but for me who likes a touch of dark suspense it was fantastic and fit both the story and characters perfectly.
“If God thought it was too late for you, I wouldn’t be here. He wouldn’t have sent me to you.”
As ever Ms. Malpas storytelling is masterful and the supporting characters were fabulous. Although the story was suspenseful, deep and thrilling at times you also got the witty banter between Izzy and her bestie, Jess. She was an absolute breath of fresh air! The potential for her and Theo’s main man, Callum, is huge so let’s hope we get a little more from these two.
With this book, I got what I crave in a story; a beginning which laid the foundations perfectly for what was to come. The middle which gave you the plight between Theo and Izzy and an absolutely perfect ending! This author has a knack for giving you a perfect epilogue and that’s exactly what I got. I can tell you one thing; after the last 20% of the book, you definitely needed that ending!
Jodi Ellen Malpas wrote her debut series, The This Man Trilogy, in secret, worried about what people might think if they knew what her imagination was capable of. She was shocked herself. But she finally found the courage to unleash her creative streak and self-published THIS MAN – the first book of the This Man Trilogy – in October 2012. She took a chance on the story with a hero who soon became one of modern day fictions most prolific alpha male characters. Jesse Ward – also affectionately known as The Lord of The Manor, sparked incredible reactions from women across the globe and catapulted Jodi into the world of romance.
She was soon signed by Grand Central Publishing, part of the Hachette Book Group, and the third book of the trilogy, This Man Confessed, took Jodi to the top of the bestsellers lists, earning her the proud title of #1 New York Times Bestselling Author. This Man has since been voted one of the top romance novels of all time. With so much love and enthusiasm for her words, Jodi suddenly wasn’t afraid of her imagination anymore and has since let it run riot. Writing powerful love stories and creating addictive characters has become her passion—a passion she now shares with her devoted readers.
Jodi was born and raised in the Midlands town of Northampton, England, where she lives with her real-life man, her boys, and a beagle. She is a self-professed daydreamer, a Converse and mojito addict, and has a terrible weak spot for alpha males. Her work is now published in more than twenty-five languages across the world.
