Can two people perpetually moving in opposite directions ever end up in the same place? Or will love just keep giving them the runaround?

Webb Bryant is intimately acquainted with every type of trouble there is. Trouble is all he’s ever known and the only constant in his life.

Webb’s a man constantly on the move. He’s a drifter. A wanderer. He bolts from one bad choice to the next, never able to put enough distance between himself and the ghosts from his past. He lives hard and fast, until everything comes to a screeching halt the moment he lays eyes on Tennyson McKenna. The stunning woman appeared out of nowhere to save the day, and Webb’s been unable to forget her. The leggy, blonde forest ranger might very well be the one person in the world important enough to finally keep him in one place. Only, Ten isn’t impressed by Webb’s knack for finding trouble. And no matter how hard he tries to shake it, he can’t escape his bad habit of falling into the deep end of questionable decisions. When his newest brush with trouble gets Webb in way over his head, Ten jumps after him into the dangerous waters. It’s possible they’re going to sink so fast they both might drown.

Tennyson McKenna makes it a point to be diligently cautious in all aspects of her life. She learned the hard way that leading with your heart instead of your head gets you nowhere.

Ten’s a woman stuck in a frustrating rut. After a string of failed relationships lands her back home, a pit stop to mend her broken heart becomes a hole she’s lost the will to dig herself out of. Coasting through her days was easy until Webb Bryant crash-landed in her path, complete with bullets, blood, and a grin far too charming for his own good. Webb is anything but safe and predictable. He’s everything Ten swore she would never gamble on again, but it’s impossible to ignore the way trouble follows him around like a shadow. And every single time Ten pushes Webb away, she finds herself chasing after him before he’s gone for good. When Webb’s past finally catches up to him, Ten has to decide if she’s brave enough to put her heart on the line for a man who might be gone tomorrow.

EXCERPT

~TENNYSON~The first time I laid eyes on Webb Bryant he was frighteningly pale from blood loss and nearly delirious from a raging fever. He’d been sporting a hole in his shoulder from a bullet wound and was terrified his brother was dead somewhere in the vast Wyoming wilderness. It was my job to protect and patrol, one I focused on diligently, but Webb was admittedly distracting. I thought he was going to pass out at my feet, a city boy in way over his head. He didn’t. He never wavered or stumbled in the unfamiliar terrain and unknown situation…not once. He’d impressed me with his resilience and his determination to find out what had happened to his older brother. He’d also caught my attention with those burning blue eyes and shock of blond hair, which gave the misleading impression that the man had a single angelic quality about him. Every long, lean line of Webb Bryant oozed playful mischief and bled the promise of wicked things done in the dark…or during the bright light of day. He didn’t seem like the shy type. Even injured and out of his mind with frantic worry for his older sibling, he was the most charming, most flirtatious man I’d ever met. He sent every defense mechanism I had into overdrive, and there wasn’t a second that slid by where I didn’t remind myself he was not my type in the slightest. Besides, once the Warners and I had both the Bryant brothers straightened out, I figured I wouldn’t have to dodge Webb’s advances ever again. He would ramble on to his next adventure and be out of sight and mind.

I breathed a sigh of relief when he went away. He was too tempting. It was too enticing to give in to every single promise made by his easy smile and glinting eyes. Webb was several years younger than me, a man who was obviously lost and still trying to figure out who he wanted to be when he finally grew up. I was a woman who knew exactly who she was and who she could never be. I was never the type to chase after the bad boys, the wanderers, the reckless. No, I fell for the steadfast, the sturdy, and the solid. I gave my heart to the kind of men who held the world up and buffered everyone around them from the raging storm.

I handed my heart to the oldest Warner brother, Cyrus, when we were just kids. Coming to terms with the fact the stoic and serious cowboy would never feel about me the way I felt about him had been one of the hardest things I’d ever had to do. We shared similar dreams, knowing our lives were so much bigger than the ranches that had our family’s bloodlines entrenched in the soil. We both wanted more than Wyoming, and for a long time, I honestly believed we were on the road out of our tiny town together. It didn’t happen that way. Sure, we both got out in our own time and in our own way, but we both ended up back where we started. Cy was taking his return home in stride. He was far less resentful about his homecoming than I was. In fact, the wedding Webb was dragged out of two short days ago was Cy’s.

I thought it was going to be hard, damn near impossible, to watch the man I’d openly loved from afar for most of my life promise his forever to someone else. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I envisioned. Mostly because Cy was stupid happy with his fiery city girl. He’d never been that happy with me, before we left or when we both admitted defeat and came back home. He’d never loved anyone like he loved his Leo, so the sting of watching him put a ring on someone else’s finger was minimal.

I would gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon before admitting to anyone, especially myself, that since the start of the wedding most of my attention had been on Webb instead of the happy couple. To my surprise, my heart didn’t feel nearly as trampled as I thought it would. It was too busy stupidly racing over the man I believed I wouldn’t see again and knew I should keep my distance from.

The blond man with a penchant for trouble hadn’t stayed gone like I predicted. Nope. He’d shown up right when Cy needed help on the ranch and offered to stick around. Webb claimed he wanted to learn a new skill, seemed he’d taken a shine to the rough way of life in the Wyoming backcountry and wanted to play cowboy for a while. Cy couldn’t say no, and as badly as I wanted to, I couldn’t stay away. I was caught in an endless game of cat and mouse, and some days I wasn’t sure if I was the predator or the prey. I tracked Webb out of the corner of my eye for months. I expected him to up his game and try to lure me to bed, knowing the wedding was going to lower my defenses. Never in a million years would I have predicted he was going to be led away from the festivities in handcuffs.

Taking in the glittering city dancing in the rain, we lapsed back into silence. I soon became aware that I was taking in the sights and Kyle was taking me in. As our eyes collided, my heart skipped a beat. His expression was intense, and it was obvious what he needed.
“Are you jet lagged?” I asked, moving a few inches closer to him.
He shook his head.
Then kiss me.
He made no such move, and just stood there, lips parted eyes glowing and provoked. I felt electricity in every breath I took. I saw sparks ignite in the gap between us. Like embers from a fire, they flew up. Time slowed. The ache inside me grew. Unable to bear the inches between us, I seized his shoulders and drew him closer.
Automatically, his hands went around my waist and he said, “Are you sure?”
What?
A rainwater bucket on my anticipation. I tossed him a surprised look. “I thought that’s what being your fuck-buddy was about? I’m so confused right now.”
“I told you that you call the shots. Use it when you need me.”
“Thank you for not making me feel cheap.”
He caught the irony in my voice and his eyebrows knitted in one furry line. “Listen, I want you to be comfortable. Please know you call the shots when it comes to your duties.”
My duties?
What the actual fuckadoodle?
“Wow.” I dropped my arms from his shoulders and pressed my hands in together in a prayer emoji. “What a superbly feminist gesture. A progressive man who supports my rights—exists? I am sure right now, across the world, pink pussy hats are being dropped by the millions at this empowering statement of yours. Perhaps your epitaph will read, ‘Here lies the Empoweree of women, the Giver of shots when it came to their bedding duties.’”
“Very funny. You are one clown short of a circus, Juniper.”
“Sorry, Kyle. Force of habit.” My sass unleashed, I could not stop smiling. “I forgot we are following Kyle’s Law now. I will no longer make my regular snarky and sassy commentary. If there is a punishment, let me, let you, punish me.”
His lips came down on mine and I lost my ability to make snarky comments. Expert fingers gathered my hair and jerked my head back until I was tied to the open window sill. My breath lodged in my throat. Droplets of rain hit my faces as Kyle kissed me.
It was a deep endless kiss and I wanted time to freeze right here…in the summer, rain kissing my love.
Moving over my neck and jerking right back to my lips, his mouth left blazing lines of heat on my wet skin. The insistent lips claimed all my sass and left me limp, needing…wanting more.
Heavy arms slipped under my rear and lifted me up with such a swift motion, I almost slipped back into the open window. He steadied me—and still kissing me hard—walked to the bedroom while I was straddled on his midriff.

We govern with broken wings, using fear and beauty as our weapons.
Through inherited traditions, each of us are born to play individual parts in our reign. In previous years, the transition has been calm.
Until our generation is unveiled.
Newcomers step forward to wreak havoc amongst us. Secrets are revealed, loyalties are tested, and the dark truth of our town is forced into the light.
Townspeople, prepare to meet your judge, jury, and executioner.
We are the Angels of Belle Meade.
We’ll be coming for you.

Reviewed by Emma-Louise on behalf of KFF

With the number of books I read, it is difficult to find a premise that is new to me. New adult paranormal romance with so many new spins, I felt a little dizzy at times.

Lennox, Amilee, and Emerson have a strong bonded friendship, one that has stood the test of time. That is until they reach their nineteenth birthday and things change…dramatically.
The premise of the Angels is more like: Judge, Jury, Executioner for the town of Belle Meade, and this is as far as I’m going into this because I want you to experience it for the first time whilst reading.

Belle Meade, to me, is built on secrets and lies. The girls had no idea what was underneath their feet for most of this book and what they were told was spoon fed to them in small noses.

Edric and his family are very unusual characters. It took me a considerable amount of time to figure out what on earth was going on with them. He was the kind of character I wanted to sink my teeth into and get to grips with. His attraction to Lennox was swift and profound.

‘On the third step, I peek over my shoulder. Could he stare any harder at me?
“You aren’t going to kill me, are you?”
“If I were going to, do you think I’d let you know? Murderers don’t advertise. They lurk in the dark, waiting to pounce on their victim, listening to their blood race through their veins, desperate to spill it.”’

Lennox has so many issues to overcome throughout this book that at times I just wanted to put her in my pocket. Her mother is a right act, and I don’t mean in a good way.

This is a new author for me and I’d not be lying if I said I wanted very much to read some more of what she has. Thank you for a new take on something I didn’t think could be done any different. Well done and bravo.

One of the windows looks out over Belle Meade. Every landmark is easy to spot from this vantage point. Main Street lined with cars. Shoppers buzzing in and out of stores. City Hall packed with business suits.Across from us is a telescope. When I move toward it, Edric blocks my path. I place my hand low on his stomach and stand on my tiptoes, knowing it will distract him.“Let me take a peek, Edric.” My lips feather his skin.“Be my guest.” He moves out of my way, and I walk past him, breathing in a lungful of air scented with his cologne. The cedarwood isn’t too strong but enough to grab my attention.I place my eye up to the eyepiece and gasp. I jerk back, only to return for another look.“It’s on my house.”“It’s not what you think.” He wrings his hands together, but guilt doesn’t fall from his face like I half-expect.“Why?”“Why, what?”“Why is your telescope pointed at the Mayor’s Manor? Specifically, why is it pointed at my bedroom window?”“Curiosity.” He releases a long, annoyed breath.“You’re a Peeping Tom.” A deep scowl creases my forehead. Edric’s been watching me.

“Call it whatever you want, Lennox. I wanted to look at you, so I did.” He runs his thumb over his bottom lip and smirks.

The news should scare me. His viewing me in secret doesn’t elicit fear, though, and I’m not sure why. I want him to watch me, to see me. Maybe he’ll be the first person who finally does, even if it is in the creepiest way possible.

On the other hand, it’s an invasion of my privacy. “What have you seen?” I ask, because even though I shouldn’t get giddy from the idea, a thrill runs through me.

“Just a girl, who sometimes seems to struggle with who she is. So, she writes in her journal a lot, because it’s the only place she can tell her true fears and desires.” He shakes his head. Is he fearful of what he’ll say next? “I’d give anything to know the secrets you whisper into those pages, Lennox.”

#BRAZILLANT! ~ DAY TWELVE & THIRTEEN OF A BOOK TOUR BRAZILIAN STYLE

🇧🇷 DAY TWELVE & THIRTEEN 🇧🇷

The #Brazilliant adventure tour

starring Jane Harvey-Berrick,

Stu Reardon, Franggy Yanes & GERGO JONAS

with The Gift Box Team,

Roberta and Esther

*~ *~ *~ *~ *~ *~ *

HAVE YOU MISSED ANY OF The

#Brazilliant adventure tour?

DAY ONE & TWOTHREEFOURFIVE, SIXSEVEN

  DAY EIGHTnineTEN & ELEVEN

🇧🇷 DAY TWELVE 🇧🇷

The final post from our #brazilliant adventures with @thegiftboxbr on my Facebook page and Kindle Friends Forever or in Portuguese at The Gift Box Blog

It’s an early start as authors and volunteers head over to the Gift Day event. Hundreds of readers from all over Brazil are already standing in line, and I just want to start! The adrenaline begins to flow and I can’t wait to meet everyone.

Stu and Gergo are on my table, lucky me, a thorn flanked by two roses.

We’re expecting hugs, and we’re not disappointed. There’s a special Brazilian hug, I think, that’s so tight it’s hard to breathe, but completely heart-felt.

Many readers bring chocolate (I must have mentioned my love of chocolate once or twice), and the lovely Leticia brings me a soft toy dog named Pip because I’d said I was missing her. That has me welling up.

Both Stu and Gergo are showered with gifts, and for Gergo especially, it’s a day full of wonderful moments and surprises as he experiences his first Brazilian book signing.

EXPLOSIVO sells out, but that’s because the printer didn’t send enough books. One of the headaches for the Gift Box team. Along the way, they’ve had cancelled venues, cancelled flights, and an Author who had to pull out just days before the event. They even worked until 4am the night before to iron out the final problems.

The day is long, with signing from 9am to 8pm with two breaks. It’s a test of stamina for volunteers and readers as well as authors. Our two translators Carol Sales and Carol Dias work tirelessly, and we even learn a few Portuguese words and phrases along the way.

By the end, We’re exhausted, but happy.

And then it’s one final challenge after the event, we sign copies of PARA VOCÊ (For You) for our publisher for another long hour before taking the minibus back to the hotel to pack our cases.

🇧🇷 DAY 13 ~ THE LAST DAY 🇧🇷

Back on the minibus and heading for the airport. We have time to stop for brunch at the beautiful Art Nouveau Confeitaria Colombo. Enormous crystal mirrors and French stained glass windows add to the elegance. Founded in 1894, the cafe is part of the Cultural and Artistic Heritage of Rio de Janeiro. It was a meeting point for artists, politicians and intellectuals – including Olavo Bilac, Rui Barbosa, Villa-Lobos, Chiquinha Gonzaga, among others.

I feel I should order English tea, but I have iced moccachino instead. The cake display is something else sadly not gluten free, so I can only look.

Last stop before the airport is Real Cabinet Portuguese. Founded May 14, 1837, the Office was created with the intention of offering the resident patricians access to the publications of their country. The Royal Portuguese Reading Office has a collection of 350,000 works by Portuguese authors outside Portugal. It smells of old books and history, and I love it.

And then we have to say goodbye to new friends, leaving behind the sunshine and hugs to head home to rainy England.

I’m ready to see my family again, but we’ve all had an amazing experience on our #brazilliant adventures ❤️🇧🇷

Thank you, Gift Box Team!!

Boa leitura! Happy reading!!

How do I keep the irresistible jock from slipping past my defenses and into my heart?

*can be read as a standalone*

Reviewed by donna on behalf of kff

Eliza Michel is asked for a favour by the dean of students at the Boston University where she attends. What she didn’t bank on was being asked to tutor Owen Dawson, the quarterback for the university football team. A good-looking guy with a promising future playing for the NFL, he is everything the girls want except Eliza isn’t drawn into that. A popular guy with a reputation as all the football players for The Boston Terriers have. It’s apparent when they start working together that they enjoy each other’s company. Eliza sees Owen in a different light, not what she was expecting at all. Nonetheless, she doesn’t want to get too attached and risk her heart being broken.

Eliza is a nerd and has been through some heartbreaking events in the past, so she keeps herself very guarded. Owen is a good-looking guy that has made some terrible mistakes in his life and now has to focus on his school work before he jeopardises his future at the university. They become closer and Owen manages to talk Eliza to go on a date with him. Eliza is apprehensive but so intrigued, she agrees.

The banter between the two had me smiling and I was really rooting for the two of them. I thought the story would be a slow build up to a new developing sweet romance; however, I wasn’t expecting the twists and turns I got. Their pasts I guess would inevitably catch up with them, especially as I’d discovered things before the actual characters had. I thought something which had happened in the beginning could come back to haunt the pair but just as one hurdle was jumped, another came along. Reading Jock was a roller-coaster of emotions I never expected for a moment. From tears to laughter, even to stomach-churning angst, exhausting me with all the feelings evoked.

The Boston Terriers series has introduced me to likable and interesting characters and whilst they are all stand-alones, it’s advisable to read all of the books if you are a sport’s fan. There’s a crossover of characters which will give you an insight into what they are all about. I loved that we got to glimpse at Owen and Eliza’s families and there were some very funny moments mixed with banter which I loved. The epilogue was a brilliant insight into their lives, making me grin while reading it.

Reading Mr. Chance’s work is always a pleasure and you never know exactly what you are going to get. I was totally invested in Jock as soon as I’d read the prologue. The writing style captured my imagination and I felt every word paramount to the incredible storytelling we’re treated to. I can’t say how much I’m looking forward to the very last instalment of the Boston Terriers and although it will be sad to see the last of them, I’m sure I will do a re-read of the whole series in the future. A very well-deserved 5-star rating and I urge potential new readers to one-click if you like sports romances with a little something different added.
