Willow Taylor lives in a castle with large walls and iron fences. But this is no ordinary castle. It’s called Heartstone Psychiatric hospital and it houses forty other patients. It has nurses with mean faces and techs with permanent frowns.

It has a man, as well. A man who is cold and distant. Whose voice drips with authority. And whose piercing gray eyes hide secrets, and maybe linger on her face a second too long.

Willow isn’t supposed to look deep into those eyes. She isn’t supposed to try to read his tightly leashed emotions. And neither is she supposed to touch herself at night, imagining his powerful voice and that cold but beautiful face.

No, Willow Taylor shouldn’t be attracted to Simon Blackwood, at all.

Because she’s a patient and he’s her doctor. Her psychiatrist.

The medicine man.

WARNING: This book discusses sensitive issues including but not limited to, depression and suicide.

Willow Taylor. An eighteen-year-old who resides at Heartstone Psychiatric hospital with forty other patients, nurses and techs she regards as the enemy. There’s a man who seems cold and distant with piercing grey eyes. She isn’t supposed to look at him with longing or touch herself at night with him in mind. He’s her psychiatrist, Dr. Simon Blackwood, much older than her and off-limits. The Medicine Man with inappropriate want.

Willow’s beautiful, funny and been battling a mental disorder from a young age, struggling to live her life like any other young woman. She doesn’t connect with any of the professionals except she finds herself drawn to Dr. Blackwood to the point where finds herself talking to him. Simon seems to be able to read Willow, even sees right through her.

Simon Blackwood is harbouring some deep issues of his own and it compels him to want to fix everyone, especially the girl with the silver-coloured long hair. It’s undeniable something about her catches his attention and somehow he’s seen as her hero, which is the last thing he wants to be to anyone. Dr. Blackwood carries a lot of guilt on his shoulders, and discovering his many hidden depths made this read a real page-turner.

The secondary characters were very well-written into the mix, and the interactions between Willow and Renn, Vi and Penny were quite funny at times. Regardless of them battling their own issues, it was nice to see banter and friendships forming. Whether it was their chats, reading or playing poker, they were very entertaining. In one scene with yoga, I couldn’t help but laugh-out-loud.

Heartbreak abounds. Let’s not forget this is a psychiatric hospital and there are some elements that not only made me tearful but the patients’ inner battles with their mental illnesses I also found upsetting. The harsh reality of it all is brought home when they’re having a bad day and nothing less than heart-rending. Chemistry and hot steamy scenes had me fanning myself because just wow, Simon Blackwood is one hell of a dirty-talker. Their taboo doctor-patient relationship without forgetting to mention the age gap, had me hoping and wishing it would or could work out for them. Simon’s a hot broody male and intrigued me no-end with the mystery surrounding him.

Medicine Man and his little warrior have such a rollercoaster of a time with their feelings and turmoil. Ms. Kent has spun quite the forbidden the tale; so much so that I was sat on the edge of my seat, waiting for it all to go terribly wrong. The author is a very talented wordsmith and I felt every word and emotion throughout. There was so much sadness surrounding the backstory of depression and it was dealt with delicately and respectfully. I also enjoyed the playlist which accompanies the book and it brings out all the feels. I can’t recommend this book enough and will be doing a re-read with the music on repeat. Tip; one of the tracks Medicine Man by Charlotte OC sums up everything beautifully. Bravo Ms. Kent. Five well-earned stars.

“Do you have someone special, Dr. Blackwood?”

Someone you kiss? Someone you grab and pull into a dark alley and press against

I don’t say that but I’m definitely asking that.

It’s like he hears the unspoken questions because the heat of his body seems to have

doubled. Like his blood is rushing in his veins with an uncanny speed.

With flaring nostrils and a hard jaw, he answers, “No.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m busy.”

I want to smile. Actually, I’ve never wanted to smile this hard. Ever. His answer calms

me but it also makes me restless to move closer to him. I want to trace my palm over the arch

of his chest and see if I got it right in my dreams.

But I don’t do any of those things. I don’t want him to take away this small concession

he’s given me.

Why is he even giving it to me? I’m not complaining. But still.

“Busy with patients?”

“Busy with my job. Yes,” he says, all professional-like.

That’s what he is. Professional and distant. Dedicated to his job and fixing people. If

Mass General let him go, then they are idiots.

I’m an idiot, too, in this moment.

Instead of backing off, I want to do something. Something that might crack his cool

façade. Maybe reaching up and messing up his no-nonsense hair.

What would he do? If I did that? If I grabbed his collar and pushed him against the wall?

And kissed him?

My eyes drop to his lips, his soft, soft lips. There’s a cleft in the middle of his lower lip. I

want to taste that cleft, dig my tongue in it, wet it, suck on it, bite it.

“So you don’t have fun at all?”

“No. I’m not a fun guy.”

I watch his lips form the words, and every syllable that comes out of his mouth makes

my need to shake him, kiss him, mess him up, stronger. Stronger and stronger.

The need is so consuming that I hardly notice when he puts his hand on my palm and

takes it off his body. It’s final and smooth, his action. Effortless. As though my touch barely

registered to him.

“But I think you have a point. It’s after hours and I should go… have fun rather than

spending my time with a patient.” He steps back then. “I’ll see you next week. Same time.”

ASHTON SCOTT by Nina Levine is LIVE!

From USA Today bestselling author, Nina Levine, comes a new standalone, bossy-billionaire romance.

It was a bad start to my week.
Or shall I say, he was a bad start to my week.
Ashton Scott.
Presumptuous, arrogant asshole.
He barrelled into my office and demanded I sell him my property.
I said no. Never.
He said everything is for sale.
He also said he always gets what he wants.
Well, Ashton Scott can kiss my ass. He’s not getting this.
There’s one problem with that.
The man just doesn’t give up. And now he’s decided he wants me, too.
He’s sexy AF.
He wears a suit like nobody’s business.
And his bossiness turns me on in ways I can’t even understand.
But I’m not going down without a fight.
Or at least, I wasn’t…
My fight is what Ashton loves the most.
Of course it is.
Send wine.

Right ladies! Now you have the opportunity to one-click a book which I’d read chapter by chapter before publishing. It’s an incredibly sexy read and the author’s modus operandi couldn’t have been better. Left on a cliffy of sorts between each short installment, my definition of this intense romance has to be erotically angst-ridden. Doubts, fears and the heroine’s insecurities are woven into the story over quite a short time span, making it a real page-turner. I even asked myself whether her two lovebirds would be able to find a status quo, their happy ending. Not an unreasonable wish since meeting in the middle, understanding each other’s up and downs and ins and out isn’t so complicated if strong feelings are involved. Ashton Scott’s story told from a dual perspective presents all these sentiments in detail.

“I think Ashton Scott has a carefully considered strategy for everything in life.”

I going to have to put the author’s MC series at the top of my endless TBR pile because if her persuasive narrative and the solid plot in this book is anything to go by, I’m obviously missing out. Not only did I like the way my patience was tried with a couple of suspect secondary characters who go out of their way to complicate matters, but also how lessons can be learned for those of us who have trouble listening or observing. I couldn’t ignore what I thought was impossible regarding her protagonists’ situation. Let me get something straight. Although steaminess sizzles off the pages, is this enough for Ashton and Lorelei to combat certain issues? Ashton’s full of himself. I mean… Full. Of. Himself.

“You will learn that while I’ll allow you to fight me, I’ll never allow you to deny me when I truly want something.”

It’s as if the noun no is non-existent in Ashton’s vocabulary. Irritating and enrapturing all rolled into one gorgeous swoon-worthy man, nothing has been given to him on a silver plate. He knows what he wants in both his personal and professional life; is protective towards those he cherishes, and a true troubleshooter when family disputes arise. I smiled more than once at the brotherly advice he gave his sister, Alessandra, and often wondered if he’d be able to put it into practice. At the same time, his loved ones including his adorable secretary give as good as they get.

‘There are only three people in my life who get away with speaking to me this way–Jessica, my sister, Alessandra and my friend Jack.’

Lorelei is her own woman. Goal-driven, her ambitions aren’t in the slightest bit outrageous. She has her reasons for being stubborn and convincing her otherwise would cause distress. I have to add that I liked her one hell of a lot, and her concern in respect to Ashton’s unyielding stance I found justifiable. But for me, there’s nothing like a strong sassy female willing to stand up for herself. Especially seeing that Ashton’s business arrogance and overpowering bossiness in the bedroom isn’t what she’s used to. Question is whether Lorelei is prepared to bend…or is he?

“You basically told her you don’t think much of her ability to achieve her goal. And that, little brother, is a sure-fire way to upset a woman.”

I’m a sucker for banter and believe you me, the author’s delivered dirty-talking fan-grabbing dialogue in scenes which will make your panties melt! I did feel that the two unlikable individuals’ stories could have been developed more in the respect that I still want to know what becomes of them. In fact, I have my theories, so maybe a spin-off wouldn’t be asking for too much, nudge! I couldn’t help sympathising with Ashton’s best friend Jack, an amicable chap with some serious problems, I really liked the way his friends gathered around him. And I really enjoyed the rapport between him, Lorelei and a couple of other reliable folks, hmm… once again, I felt I was missing out on something here. That being said, it is Ashton and Lorelei’s story, so I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope the author makes my dream come true. All in all, I found Nina’s well-written stand-alone novel a joy to read. Bravo!
