REVIEWED BY ANNA ON BEHALF OF KFF
This is my first book by this author and I am warning you now to prepare your heart and guts. This is a dark standalone story that might cause triggers for some readers.
Valencia is a talented ballerina dedicated to her art, she led a sheltered life. Her goal is to be the prima ballerina in her dance company and anything else is second place until she meets Lachlan. Little does she know that getting involved with Lachlan will not only turn her life upside down, it also goes sideways and off-kilter…. like a car crash.
Lachlan, a successful but enigmatic persona had a very disturbing and sad childhood. His controlling and manipulative ways you could almost make an excuse of, his perverted and skewed views of justice and revenge makes some antagonists in other books feel like members of the Justice League.
I must say that this cautionary tale of vengeance is so gripping right from the first page until the last. Although the first quarter of the story had me confused at times because of the alternating points of view, switching from past to present does get clearer when you get halfway through the book. I feel that this is more of Lachlan’s story and Valencia is just collateral damage, ahem what I meant was an accidental heroine. After all, a hero needs his heroine like the yin to his yang, right?
The author created excellent character development in Lachlan’s damaged psyche. With Valencia; however, I felt only a slight empathy for her. Her personality and goody-two-shoes reputation were irksome despite the latter part of the book showing much-needed chutzpah. There are events in this book that will make you cringe and scream so that’s a fair warning to readers.
Overall this book is not for the faint-hearted but if you need a good read that will jolt your senses, I definitely recommend this one.
Torture is an art form I’ve learned through the years, mastered for decades, and explored in different variations with anyone who I found fit.
Most people will say I’m a monster or a psycho.
However, in life, nothing is ever that simple, as evil and goodness are in the eyes of the beholder.
About the Author:
V.F.Mason always loved reading books and had quite a few fights with her momma over the genre she liked (romance, duh!) She studied filmmaking and thought that would feed her desire for stories, but that didn’t happen. Finally, when she was tired of all those voices in her head, she sat down and wrote a book. It was a huge decision to make and she thanks her friends and family for supporting her in it. When she is not writing, she can be found with her friends doing all sorts of crazy things or reading recent romance books that were written by her favorite authors.
