“In Iraq, I promised you a bed of rose petals.” He grabbed my hand under the table, tightening his grip as if he were falling from a precipice and our connection was the only thing saving him from certain death.

“They were beautiful.”

“You smell like apples. Roses were wrong.” There was nothing soft about his tone, but his quiet words were for me alone. “I want everything to be right for you.”

“Caden, look at me.”

I caught his gaze and held it. He was confident. Arrogant. Sure he had a place in the world. And under that was the man who needed me to be that place.

“If I could…” He smiled and shook his head at a silly thought he wanted to dismiss but couldn’t—a contradiction in keeping with the whole man I married. “If I could write my love in the sky, it wouldn’t be big enough. I’d run out of room. I’d fall out of the air trying to say it all.”

He was saying it all.

Every day.

And he was falling out of the sky to do it.

I was a little concerned about On the Edge, book two in The Edge series since Rough Edge book one went beyond my wildest expectations. I could kick myself for doubting any different from Reiss as this story’s just as angst-ridden, just as raw and gritty and although questions I’d had were answered up to a certain extent, more arose. I’m also at a loss for words which is making this review a difficult one to write. But my biggest dilemma while sitting here is how on earth am I going to give this installment the justice it deserves without letting on! So, I’ll keep it brief.

Delving into Caden and Greyson’s thoughts, seeing how they grew close to each other with flashbacks and putting myself in their complex situation, left my emotions reeling. I never had any reason to query their everlasting love; however, what Caden is experiencing is extreme in the respect that it could jeopardize their marriage, his career and more important, his soundness of mind. Torn in two, this damaged man’s wife is prepared to go whole-hog to save him from himself, but will it be enough?

Caden well knows there’s no-one more compassionate and savvy professionally like Greyson. Her actions spoke louder than words, although her passion for the only man who has ever been able to satisfy her needs, does have its limits. And I’d hate to say why because I really want you to read it for yourselves! In the correct order too, I might add. That being said, Christine has offered all her readers a little-big gem prequel freebie, Cutting Edge. I devoured it in one sitting after putting this one down and on the author’s recommendation, you can read it as a starter, between each book but before her next release, Broken Edge, coming in July.

The protagonists’ honesty with one another is crucial. There’s no room for secrets, no room for prettying up what had already taken root. How Greyson deals with her husband’s malady literally overwhelming. And although Caden’s subconsciousness is holding back something of consequence, she still battles on regardless, her fortitude admirable.

Reiss’ storytelling has yet again got me hovering on the what-could-happen-next precipice. One thing is for sure. True love has no barriers in Reiss’ book. She narrates from the heart, she’s cracked it with a style which is only hers to own. Bravo!

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.
