In Vegas, there was one man who was off limits. One man… and I fell for him. I knew there were risks. Still, I played the game. When Dario Capece called, I answered. When he beckoned, I came. When he broke all my rules, I looked the other way. I knew there were risks. I just never realized they included death.

…the same day Hallie pledged she would never, ever speak to Ian again as long as she lived.

Hallie Gilbert has had an especially awful year. When her husband of five years left her, Hallie’s 4-year-old daughter, Jenny, essentially stopped speaking. Add to this, Hallie had to sell her Boston apartment to pay her husband’s exorbitant credit card bills. What Hallie needs is an uncomplicated autumn at Colby Cottage, her family’s summer home in Sandwich, NH, where she and Jenny can re-group and figure out what happens next.

But Colby Cottage, located adjacent to the Summerhaven Camp, has not been well-maintained and Hallie finds it in such disrepair, it’s almost unlivable. When nearby camp owner, Rory Haven, arranges for his brother, Ian, to handle renovations for Hallie, her plans for an uncomplicated autumn suddenly get a lot more challenging.

What I truly love about second chance romances above all other sub-genres of romance is the explosiveness of them, the drama and the emotion. Loving Irish was so much more than I hoped it would be.

‘Hallie Gilbert was the only love of Ian’s pitiful life.
The one and only.’

Ian has been a large part of this ever since we were introduced to his brother Rory in Fighting Irish. The downtrodden and broken one of the triplets, trying to put his past behind him, only this isn’t the only thing that he’s trying to escape. As a teenager, he met and fell in love with Halcyon ‘Hallie’ Gilbert. As the blurb says, these two haven’t seen each other since they were 17 and Hallie planned fixing up her family cottage and fixing her broken life. Only thanks to some meddling from a Haven sibling, are Ian and Hallie are thrust together. Anger, regret and broken hearts on show for the world to see.

‘Watching the worried lines smooth out on his handsome face and wondering if her heart could stand the risk of loving him out loud again.’

Hallie has a four-year-old daughter Jenny she is raising alone; Jenny is the cornerstone of Hallie’s quest for a better life. I relished the interactions between Jenny and Ian. The gruff Ian couldn’t stand a chance against the little girl. Jenny is sweet and so perfectly lovable.

‘In a life that had felt unfamiliar for years, here was something familiar. Here was something she wanted.’

Breaking Loving Irish down to its basic fundamentals you’ll discover that this book, unlike the others is full of darkness and heartbreak. So much regret and heart-aching loss, I had to put this one down more than once. Emotion coursed through this book, and I laughed, I groaned, and I cried my heart out.

“…I will always come back to you, because I love you. And because, in the whole wide world, the only place I want to be…is with you.”

This book can be read as a standalone; however, I implore anyone who is reading this review to please, pretty please, read this series in order starting with Fighting Irish. You will not be disappointed. Congratulations Ms. Regnery on another fabulously emotional ride of a read.

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Knocked Up Cover_resize

First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes baby in a baby carriage. Just not necessarily in that order….

Braxton: I should probably be dead or in jail right now. Instead, thanks to some tough love, I worked my ass off and now I own a string of tattoo parlors throughout the Pacific Northwest. And yet the one thing I’ve always wanted—a family—still seems out of reach. When my best friend gets married, I’m just hoping to blow off some steam with the super-hot maid of honor. But after Cara Thompson tracks me down to tell me she’s pregnant, she’s more surprised than I am when I tell her I’m all in.

Cara: For the first time in my life, I’m living for myself—not for my parents and their ridiculous expectations. I gave up on my MBA, dropped out of the Ivy League, and moved to Portland to pursue my dream of becoming an artist. And what’s the first thing I do? Get knocked up. For a tatted-up sex god, Braxton Henley seems way too eager to “be there for me.” Is this guy serious? Maybe. He sure is patient. Because he won’t back down until I admit what I know in my heart: that our one night stand might’ve led me to the one.

4.5 Stars ~ Reviewed by Emma Louise
on behalf of KFF

This book was something of a hidden gem. I read the blurb before I dived in and expected a silly little romcom; however, what I got was so much more than that. Off-page, before the start of this little gem; Cara and Braxton meet at a wedding reception and one thing leads to another and they ended up back at his hotel room. What comes after their night together is a real eye-opener for Cara and Braxton.

Cara was raised in a household of lofty expectations and parents who expected her to remake the wheel and follow in their footsteps of being holier than thou and act like she is owed rather than owing. If not for her brother Jimmy, Cara wouldn’t have ever come out of her shell and begun to live her life away from her “Stepford” parents.

‘Live, Cara. Live for both of us. Be true to you.’

Braxton is as similar but also equally different to Cara as two people can be. The similarities, though subtle, are there for everyone to see if you just look at it all in a different light. The way the author portrayed the inherent differences between upper and lower class was done in a very non-stereotypical way. There was no rubbing it in when it came down to it. Nobody had to show others what they did or didn’t have, the haters just weren’t worth the time or inclination.

From beginning to end this book shouted one thing over and over again, trust. Some people wanted it sooner than they had a right to it, and others just didn’t treasure trust the way they should.

‘I close my eyes, feel the rhythm of my heart beating against my chest, and I realise I’m wrong.
I’m not falling for Braxton Henley.
I’ve already landed.’

Now, the interesting part of this book, the romance between Cara and Braxton.
If you have read the blurb you know the basic premise of this book, but what you won’t know until you read Knocked Up is what this book truly is about. Both main characters are incredibly damaged and have so many hang-ups you could use them as hangers in a wardrobe! There is nothing simple or basic about this pairing and it is done effortlessly whilst dealing with some intense emotions and events.

‘This is not pregnant hormones, kicking into high gear, creating a throb at the apex of my thighs.
This is simple, boy meets girl, girl wants to taste hot boy, physical chemistry.’

Knocked Up is book two of a series, but each book is a standalone read and does not have to be read in line with the others. Events and situations in this book were not always in the control of Braxton and Cara, that being said, it is a true testament to their characters and the author who penned their personalities that they stayed true to form and never diverted.

What we’ve all been waiting for, A WISH FOR US by Tillie Cole, is LIVE!

Amazon  | iBooks Kobo | Nook

From the author who brought you A Thousand Boy Kisses comes the new emotional novel,
A Wish For Us.

A story of music. A story of healing. A story of love conquering all.

Nineteen-year-old Cromwell Dean is the rising star of electronic dance music. Thousands of people adore him. But no one knows him. No one sees the color of his heart.

Until the girl in the purple dress. She sees through the walls he has built to the empty darkness within.

When Cromwell leaves behind the gray skies of England to study music in the South Carolina heat, the last thing he expects is to see her again. And he certainly doesn’t expect that she’ll stay in his head like a song on repeat.

Bonnie Farraday lives for music. She lets every note into her heart, and she doesn’t understand how someone as talented as Cromwell can avoid doing the same. He’s hiding from his past, and she knows it. She tries to stay away from him, but something keeps calling her back.

Bonnie is the burst of color in Cromwell’s darkness. He’s the beat that makes her heart skip.

But when a shadow falls over Bonnie, it’s up to Cromwell to be her light, in the only way he knows how. He must help her find the lost song in her fragile heart. He must keep her strong with a symphony only he can compose.

A symphony of hope.
A symphony of love.
A symphony of them.

I virtually went into this book blind and I must say being in the dark adds to the enjoyment of the story, especially as I went on a journey of darkness, light and colours mixed with music.

Cromwell Dean is a very mysterious young man who is a DJ in Europe and a musical genius. He has a sea of fans but they don’t really know him, what he is capable of. Cromwell doesn’t let anybody see that side of him until he meets a girl called Bonnie Faraday who sees right through him on their chance encounter.

“Your music has no soul.”

Cromwell ends up going to America to study music and is shocked to find out the girl he had a brief meeting with studies at the same college. He is also shocked to see her and is mystified that she won’t leave his mind. Something about her makes the walls he has built crack. Bonnie loves music and she can’t grasp why Cromwell tries to push it away, hiding his talent. He has a bit of a reputation but Bonnie senses that it is a façade, and she decides to stay well clear of him. However, only some sort of draw keeps calling her back. Mixed together, it’s as if they are colour and beat, he has darkness and there is something about him that makes her heart skip a beat.

Whilst reading A Wish For Us, I felt like there was a long build up of cat and mouse between Bonnie and Cromwell, leaving me wanting more. What was behind the two of them, the way they were portrayed by the author was a delight to unravel. Bonnie was just as mysterious and when she suddenly has a darkness surrounding her, it’s Cromwell who has to face his fears and use music to reach out to her.

There are so many parts of this story that are tragic, it touched my heart and made me feel quite emotionally exhausted; thus said, there is so much beauty in the colours and the music. A beautiful tragically offering with broken and complicated characters. There are some topics that were quite the emotional experience. It opens your mind to the real struggles people go through.

Ms. Cole certainly knows how to tug at the heartstrings. I was given an unforgettable experience and would suggest that the future readers go in with a clear mind and listen to the playlist that accompanies A wish for Us. You will become the characters and feel everything through the music and maybe you’ll see colours, too. I couldn’t get the story out of my mind and that is always worthy of five stars, utterly beautiful.
