I really liked Avery Walker. She’s a hard-working young lady who feels responsible for a complicated situation at home and works her fingers to the bone to help out. This means she’s away for extended lengths of time on luxurious yachts operating in the role as chief stewardess. Avery’s sacrificed her ambitions of going to university. She needs to make as much money as possible and yes, you’ll only find out why by one-clicking!
Hayden Wolfe is a British businessman who works very hard to buy companies and then sell them off. Of late, his investors are getting angsty with reason, and he soon realises something’s very wrong in his organisation. For his next deal, he decides to spend eight weeks on a yacht, cutting communication from the outside world; making his whereabouts unknown. Of course, he couldn’t do this without help so he recruits his brother.
When Hayden climbs aboard the yacht for his eight-week cruise, Avery and he notices each other and sparks fly. However, Avery cannot look at him in a certain way or pursue him with the strict no fraternisation policy in her role. It doesn’t stop them driving each other crazy or the palpable chemistry between the two. Avery knows it’s going to be a long eight weeks, having to deal with the handsome, suave Hayden. Both cannot afford the distractions for very different reasons.
The Ruthless Gentleman is a fantastic offering from Ms. Bay with lots of twists and turns and suspense. Of course, the steamy scenes are enough to set your kindle on fire! The writing style is very fluent, and the storytelling is on point. Some great side characters are accompanying the story, one of them being Hayden’s brother Landon. I loved the back and forth banter between the two, showing an evident strong bond and giving each other the brotherly tease. I really liked the main protagonists; Avery has a sweet and innocent exterior; nonetheless, fools she doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Hayden was very much shocked by his reactions to Avery, she wasn’t somebody he expected ever to encounter.
The great thing about this story is the mental visual you get from the authors descriptive writing. I felt like I was aboard the yacht navigating around the Mediterranean. Plenty of angst amongst the cruising made it difficult for me to put my kindle down; especially while I was thinking where it would all lead to with the sizzling chemistry going on and them working very hard not to let on about their attraction. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s just a wealthy hot man and the crew because there’s so much more to this story. I can’t recommend this read enough, so worthy of five stars. Bravo Ms. Bay, great job done.
