Doppelbanger; A person who bangs someone solely because they look similar to another person they want to bang.

At thirty-five, Gina Bourque is still playing the field. If he’s single, in his early twenties with dark hair and brooding eyes, there’s a damn good chance you’ll find him in her little black book.

Jeffrey Ryan never imagined that at nearly forty he’d find himself widowed and a single dad. But here he is—stumbling through this thing called life with two impressionable daughters watching his every move.

When Gina and Jeffrey meet while cruising the Caribbean, sparks fly and not in a good way. He’s too old. Too blond. Too stiff. Yet she’s still drawn to him like a moth to a flame. She’s too vulgar. Too sassy. Too wild. But she ignites something inside of him he can’t ignore.

We all know what happens when you play with fire. . . someone’s bound to get burned.

4.5 Stars ~ Reviewed by Emma-Louise on behalf of KFF

Gina and Jeffrey, what a couple of people. Both have broken parts to them that can’t simply be glued back together.  Jeffrey is a widow raising his two girls and trying to survive a life without the woman he loved completely. Gina is a woman who doesn’t trust any man and is only willing to spend one night with a man. She can’t comprehend getting something as nasty as feelings all over her, oh no, she’s way above those stinky little things…or so she thinks.

‘I LOVE MEN. Young men. Ones who aren’t looking for anything more than a good time. Cuz I am nothing if not a good time.’

Whilst on a cruise, these two dramatic characters clash over a difference of opinion. Forced to spend time together, they become arousingly aware of each other and cannot put the breaks on their passionate trysts. No strings, no emotions, just good old-fashioned sex. His only rule is that his children don’t know what is going on. Jeffrey is guilt ridden and bereft. The way he reacts and feels through particular scenes on page resonate profoundly. He is so torn between the past and the here and now, and because of this makes so many blindingly obvious mistakes. He frustrated and angered me at times with how he treated Gina. She isn’t disposable or just a mere receptacle for his desires and lust, but yet at times that was all he attempted to feel for her, which to me was total bull and so beneath him. It isn’t Gina’s fault how he feels and yet he cheapens her and makes her feel wrong.

Gina, on the other hand, is such an honest person. She has her family and close friends she adores. So much hilarity in this book is between Gina, Spencer (her bestfriend) Cooper (Spencers husband) and their children. The children are part of most of the funniest scenes in this book. Children being children, saying what only innocent children can really get away with. Their innocence is so darn sweet, I was at true risk of sugar shock.

This book is chock full of emotional triggers and landmines that Gina and Jeffrey have to maneuver through. Their relationship changes so minutely that I’m sure neither wanted to admit that it wasn’t what they had initially planned out. Human beings are so fickle and yet make life so very hard for themselves.

‘…and her body melts into mine. I’m not sure what’s happening between us. All I know is that this feels too good to let it go.’

The sexy scenes in this book are hot enough to burn the fingers of any reader, and I was no exception. For his age, Jeffrey really does put a lot of younger men to shame if you know what I mean.

Doppelbanger, a title that peeked my interest even before reading the blurb; a romcom so good I finished it in nearly one sitting, darn sleep I wish I could go without when I have a great book made me ugly cry and sob my heart out. I didn’t even see the heartbreak coming until I was in the midst of it. Kindle in one hand and tissue in the other. I don’t often read romcoms as they aren’t usually by romance sub-genre of choice, but Doppelbanger was such a good read I would have been upset to miss out. The epilogue was a thing of beauty and for me the best part of this epic read. Thank you Ms Orgeron for such an amazing read, you did the characters so much justice and never stepped off the true path of the characters.
