I shouldn’t want him.

I don’t need him.

But when I close my eyes, he’s all I see.

He’s my addiction. The secret I keep close to my heart.

And together, we’re just two lost souls on the wrong side of heaven.

Excerpt

One thunderstorm fades into another, and I keep my eyes on the stars, praying this one isn’t as bad as the last. It’s tornado season in Kansas—the only other force besides Tess that threatens me on a daily basis.

The crack of thunder is sharp, and the flashes of lightning so close together, I know it’s almost time to get in the closet. There’s no basement. No shelter to run to with a secret door to the underground. It’s just creaky floorboards, dust, and a protective layer of cotton pillows I bought at the dollar store.

If the storm were to pull the roof off the trailer, there’s not much else inside my room for the wind to whip around. The only other piece of furniture I own is a dresser. But I learned, whatever I put in there, Tess will take, so I keep my clothes in the trunk in the closet. The little bit of money I have is kept in a secret compartment in the floor. It’s not much, but I save every penny I earn from babysitting jobs around the trailer park.

Over the summer months, I try to pick up as many nights as I can because, without school, I spend too much time in the trailer. Too much time with Tess leads to problems.

Last night, we argued about my chest. She said my boobs were getting too big and that my mother probably had a matching set, just like all the other whores in town. If I knew anything about my mom, I’d disagree, but Tess could be right, so I didn’t bother trying to convince her otherwise.

As much as I hate Tess, she’s all I have. When my dad died, Tess decided to keep me. She said something about the money from the government helping to pay the bills. I’m not stupid. I know all that money goes up her nose and feeds her habit.

Sometimes, when Tess is exceptionally bitchy, I almost wish I had gone into the foster system. At least then I’d have had a chance at happiness. Because living in Carillon is nothing but hell. A hell I can’t escape until I turn eighteen and graduate high school.

Three hundred sixty-four days separate me and freedom.

I am me. Alone and by myself.

BLURB

I’m not a good man, and I’ve never pretended to be. I don’t believe in goodness or God or any happy ending that isn’t paid for in advance.

What do I believe in? Money. Sex. Macallan 18.

They have words for men like me—playboy. Womanizer. Skirt chaser.

My brother used to be a priest, and he only has one word for me.

Sinner.

***Sinner is a standalone companion to Priest about Father Bell’s brother Sean. You do not have to read Priest or Midnight Mass to read Sinner.***

EXCERPT

“Zenny,” I mumble against her lips, some valiant part of me recognizing that this is far, far beyond the kiss she asked for, and also recognizing that I’m going to come all over the inside of my Hugo Boss suit pants if she keeps it up. Even through the clothes, I can feel her heat, her shameless rolls hinting at where she goes soft and wet between her legs.

Fuck, I want to see it. I want to see her pussy. It’s suddenly all I can think about, all I can want or crave, just one glimpse, just a peek.

“I want to see your cunt,” I say hoarsely, lifting my head.

“My…cunt?” She says the word like she’s never said it out loud before.

“Yeah.” My voice is so ragged right now, so desperate, and fuck, I’ve never felt this frantic before. Like I’ll actually combust if I don’t get this one thing, this one small sight of her secret place.

She lets out a shaky breath, her hand dropping from my lapel to her skirt, which she slowly rucks up to her waist as I devour her lips once more, as I bury my face in her neck and kiss every sliver of skin exposed above her collar. I bite at her ear, at her jaw, my hand finding hers as it pulls her skirt up, so that I’m helping her do it, that we’re doing it together, this forbidden act, this forbidden revelation.

Her forbidden body.

That word, forbidden, spikes through my mind, bringing with it equal spikes of lust and fear. Because yes, it’s fucking hot that I shouldn’t be kissing her, I shouldn’t be begging to see her most secret place, my hand shouldn’t be covering hers as it slides up her thigh—but it’s also bad. Bad even for Sean Bell.

Bad, bad, bad.

3.5 Stars ~ Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse

It wouldn’t surprise me if Sinner causes a certain amount of controversy and not because of the the sexual content. Don’t get me wrong, Simone has written one steamy romance. So why do I think this full-length novel will have a ripple effect or better said, create a buzz? Sure enough, the sexual tension sizzles off the pages from start to finish; however, what slayed me and I’m sure will affect you too, is the plot. But before I go any further, I’d like to mention Tyler Bell’s brief appearance from Priest. As the author hasn’t recounted his past events in any detail, there’s no confusion for the reader so yes, Sinner can be read as a standalone. Now then, let’s get back to the story! What a blinkin’ marvellous prologue. It certainly put me in the picture regarding some of the male protagonist’s traits and what’s more, once I got to know him, I loved how he didn’t make excuses for himself.

Chapter one and I’m rolling my eyes and trying to convince myself to read on. You see, not only was this mid-thirties millionaire checking himself out, but also flashing his dimple. However, I persevered and don’t regret it for a minute. Don’t be fooled by Sean Bell ladies, there are huge things to come…no pun intended! Exemplary brother to his siblings and caring son, he’d never had a problem with his conscience in the bedroom department so why, all of a sudden, was it bothering him? Was the proposition he’d received that indecent? Were the strings attached an issue? Maybe the taboo factor had something to do with it since more sinful and more tempting, it could not be. Ahh, but all is not what it seems because under his live and let live attitude, there’s so much more depth to him than I ever thought possible.

“Are you–” “Are you…preening?”
“I am not preening,” “I’m Sean Bell, and Sean Bell does not preen.”

Zenobia Iverson, aka Zenny, knows him. He doesn’t recognise her…and this folks, is where the fun begins! She’s a real beauty, young, headstrong and courageous, her naivete adorable and guess who thought so too! I thought her plans for the future nobel, but her plans for the rightnow, wow…no wonder Sean had trouble finding his moral compass. One would think the two of them together would leave little to the imagination seeing as he’s experienced in the sexual-arts. Believe me, the mental image I perceived at the hand of the author’s penmanship left me with my mouth wide open!

“This is different. I know you trust me, you know I trust you. And now it’s time for me to show you what I would do if you were mine…”

Soul-searching life’s purpose, learning to live with loss, forgiving oneself and accepting love on a spiritual level were just a few of topics handled with extreme sensitivity. Throughout the read, theological facts and cardinal virtues were abundant. Whether it was a simple comment or a shared opinion between Sean and Zenny, it sounded convincing but at the same time, faith’s conundrum left him in a religious quandary of sorts. Devoutness wasn’t being tested, it questioned and challenged. Here, the dialogue was foremost intellectual; especially in the matter of race. Sean showed me his concern for Zenny’s happiness which might mean unhappiness for him. Also, when the opportunity presented itself, she was curious to know if he was comparing his beliefs or the lack of them with a heartbreaking past experience. A commendable piece of work on the writer’s part I might add.

“I want to build a tower around you, and then build a castle around that tower, and then dig a moat around that castle, and then I want to guard you like a dragon. Burn anyone who tries to hurt you into ash and then scorch those ashes a second time.”

How much is too much sex in a book? Hmm, I think it must be tricky navigating in this narrative water for any author, but those hot passionate moments are what a lot of Simone’s fans have come to expect. She’s a remarkably descriptive writer, her wordplay couldn’t be better and her scenes damn good. So, why did I get the impression that her protagonists’ sexapades were a tad excessive when all she’d done is deliver an excellent read? At times, I felt as if the plot was overshadowed by said scenes and slowed the book down. Nonetheless, it’s been awhile since I’ve highlighted so many hot passages which in my book, is a positive sign, right? I can’t possibly give you the reason why I had a little-big cry towards the end… and the epilogue, just floved it! I would definitely recommend one-clicking and ooh, don’t forget to read author’s interesting footnote. Bravo Simone!

This is a very emotional, second chance romance featuring one of the members of the rock band, Trained in Black. Although this book is the second in the Sweet Sin series it can be read as a standalone.

Meet Dean, the drummer of the band. The tragic death of his teenage son Landon still weighs him down and the only thing that gets him through life is his daughter, Leila. This guy is a strong alpha who will protect his family and the people he loves. One person who has been a blot in his life is Sam, the journalist who won’t stop digging into his past and had caused him a lot of pain.

Tatum had a meltdown on the day of her wedding to Sam and it was Dean who saved her life. The first time they met was life changing but she avoided him until the day they met again, six years later. This time around they both feel that connection, that spark. Tatum is a very strong character, what she went through with Sam moulded her into the person she is now. Having Dean in her life made her want to be there for his pain.

“ I want to touch him, soothe him, talk to him, and find out everything there is to know about him, but I also want him to light that fire and keep it burning. I also want a man who seeks deep within me with his eyes as well as scorches me up with a kiss, a look from across the table, or a touch.”

There is a lot of drama in Dean and Leila’s life. Not only does Dean have to deal with his son’s death, he also has his band mate Liam’s downward spiral. The guys of Trained in Black may not be blood brothers but they are a closed knit bunch, they will protect each other, they always cover each other’s backs. I love Leila’s close bond with her father, it was him who raised her and her brother Landon.

This book is overflowing with emotions: guilt, anger, sorrow, sexual tension and a whole lot more. I felt like the characters were so bogged down with all these feelings that they all should be in therapy. If the author wanted her readers to feel like they had their heart punched, stomped on and squeezed dry then she succeeded. After all the intense build up in the book (the showdown between Dean, Tatum and Sam) the ending was a bit of an anticlimax.  I expected an explosive ending but maybe the author wanted to give her readers a reprieve. One can only handle so much snot and tears!
