How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:

Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.

Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Rebel Heir is the first book in the Rush Series Duet. Book Two, Rebel Heart, will release six weeks later on May, 22, 2018.

BLURB / PROLOGUE

Her name is Emerson Hart and she is the love of his life.

Unfortunately, he’s not the only love of hers.

And therein lies the problem.

* * *

Even without seeing her face, I know that the woman standing at the water’s edge is desperately sad. Her back is to me and her shoulders are slumped, perhaps heavy with regret. It kills me to know I am partly to blame, and for that reason alone, it’s impossible to look at her. Leaning against the rough trunk of the tree, I close my eyes. My life will forever begin and end with her, and I’m unable to witness her heart breaking.

Standing still is no longer an option, so I begin to pace. Is she still waiting for him or has he already left? Fear pools in my veins at the uncertainty. Above all else, I want her to be happy. If this is too hard, I’ll have to walk away again. I let out a long breath, frustrated by the whole situation.

Emerson Hart is the love of my life. Unfortunately, I’m not the only love of hers. And therein lies the problem.

Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse

When a book grabs me from the prologue like Love My Way did; when it brings out feelings of helplessness, distresses me to the point of tears but still manages to give me hope, that’s when I know it’s going to be unputdownable. I have to add that after reading a couple of chapters, I knew pulling an all-nighter was liable to happen. I wasn’t wrong. I turned the last page at five o’clock in the morning and believe me, just thinking about the epilogue while writing this review fills my heart with every emotion. However, few reasons I will give you as to why I was so strongly affected since I have no wish to spoil this exceptionally well-written story for you. Now then, how could I not mention the cover! Gorgeous, isn’t it? And the body art; the feathers and the Eye of Horus fits the female protagonist’s story perfectly.

“If you ever feel lost and lonely again, always remember that you’re made of strong stuff.” “And this will always be your road map back to the light.”

Not having read any works by Sterritt was also a huge plus as I love discovering new authors, but what really caught me off balance was the literary technique used. Vividly descriptive scenes and realistic dialogue made me feel at times, like an imposter. Obviously, I wasn’t earwigging on the protagonists’ conversations; just a keen observer learning as much as possible about them. Here, I have to say that there are quite a lot of inner-thoughts on Emerson’s part. Normally, this would concern me as I’m a sucker for banter; nonetheless, without her stream of consciousness the impact she had on me would have been lessened. The author’s character development is magnificent. I couldn’t help but fall hard Mereki, aka Ki and in part two, Josh literally bowled me over. I’d like to make it clear to those of you who are worried about amorous triangles. Give the book a chance because it’s not at all what you think it is and nothing like you’d ever imagine or expect.

“You can’t settle for anything less than you deserve.”
“I’m not.”
“You are destined for so much more than this.”

Boy meets girl. Such innocence, tenderness and undying friendship melted my heart. I loved the strength in Emerson. She knows how to defend herself but more important, she’s a protector. Regardless of not being protected by those who should have, her outlook on life I found to be quite ambitious for such a young lass. Her bestie, Ki, encourages her art, wants a better life for both of them, and becomes her everything. She in turn, adores the earth he walks on.

“Never let your light die because it’s going to brighten more than just my world.”
“But you’re my world. There is nothing and no one else.”

Fast-forward to present, thirty percent in and ooh boy, am I getting negative feels, or what? Trouble is, I can’t quite put my finger on it. Josh walks into Emerson’s life and a tenfold confusion grips me. I can’t begin to tell you how much I liked him though. I mean, his selfless compassion is beyond compare! His art, his ability to read Emerson….everything about him. But by now, I’m so blinkin’ nervous, I don’t know where to put myself.

“Remember what this is?”
“A paintbrush,”
“It’s a lifeline.”

I never saw it coming. The twist is as such that I went back to the epilogue and reread it, formed an opinion and whether I got it right or wrong remains to be seen. Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever reread an epilogue as much as this one. The story per se left me exhausted, elated, and I griefed so much, I didn’t think my broken heart would be able to be mended. Bravo Sterritt, you did it!
