REVIEW ~ COMBUST by K. Bromberg

Combust, an all new sexy and emotional standalone by K. Bromberg is NOW AVAILABLE!

From New York Times Bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes the second standalone book in the Everyday Heroes series. Just how hot will firefighter Grady Malone turn up the heat?

Songwriter Dylan McCoy has been burned.

By her boyfriend she found in her bed . . . with someone else.

By the contract she signed that obligates her to work with him until the songs for his new album are complete.

By her agent when she asked Dylan to keep their breakup on the down-low.

When she finds herself in Sunnyville, she refuses to let her new roommate burn her too. Still . . . a rebound has never looked so good.

That’s her first thought when she sees firefighter Grady Malone.
Sexy. Charismatic. Unapologetic. He’s a man who carries his own scars—the ones on his back, the survivor’s guilt on his soul, and the fear in his heart.

When an unexpected visitor puts their roommate status to the test, will their undeniable attraction burn out, or will they both take a chance and play with fire?

This is a stand-alone contemporary romance and the second book to the Everyday Heroes series featuring the second Malone brother. The first book in the series was about Grant, a police officer. Well, this book didn’t disappoint me at all. How can one resist Grady Malone, the hot and brooding fire-fighter with his pet pig Petunia? Still recovering from the horrific fire that killed his best friend Drew, Grady barely survived, now scarred for life and his nights are filled with nightmares. This hero is still wrapped up in guilt when he couldn’t save his friend.

Dylan, a talented songwriter who found her rock star boyfriend, Jett Kroger with another woman on her own bed felt betrayed, ran away to lick her wounds and ended up as Grady’s roommate. What I like about Dylan is that she is just like us mere mortals, with weight issues. She is not your typical gorgeous and drop dead love interest, she has “mermaid” thighs and a little bit chubby. But she is also resilient and strong.

This well written romance shows two people who think they are flawed, two beautiful individuals who are slightly broken from their past but they heal each other’s pain. Is it enough though for them to continue their journey towards each other? Grady’s character is a strong individual but also afraid to risk his happiness. He is a man of substance but is so emotionally scarred and needs to get over his guilt.

“We all have scars. Some are visible. Some aren’t. In the end, they represent the fact that you’re stronger now than whatever tried to hurt you.”

Grady and Dylan started as roommates and from there their friendship turned to love but their psychological scars are the biggest stumbling blocks to their future together. I love this author’s style of writing, very well paced, her characters are fantastic and so are the friends and family around them.

“Because love is rarely pretty. It’s messy. It’s complicated. It’s often ugly, but that’s how you know when it’s right. Pretty doesn’t last. It’s the things you have to work at that make the reward that much sweeter.”

This romantic tale is definitely worth a lazy afternoon read, emotional, heartbreaking and heart-warming. I can’t wait to read Grayson’s story next! I highly recommend this book.
