Acacia Santos excels at her job as concierge at the prestigious Hotel Victoire in Paris. When her superior, Marcel, is attacked in a supposed random mugging, she is tasked with serving one of the hotel’s most mysterious and attractive guests.

Nicholas Cassirer checks into the hotel under an assumed name every three months. Usually, he stays in the penthouse suite with a beautiful female companion but on this occasion, he arrives alone and is displeased in having to deal with someone new. A match of wits ensues as he tests Acacia’s expertise with a series of almost impossible demands. Her intelligence and creativity rise to the challenge, earning his respect.

They strike a tenuous accord until Acacia discovers a famous stolen painting in his suite, she contacts a former boyfriend who works for the elite BRB, a unit of French law enforcement that deals with art thefts.

Nicholas is questioned by police and released when it is revealed the painting is a reproduction. Irked with her behavior, Acacia’s supervisor demotes her threatening dismissal and the cancellation of her work permit.

But Acacia has already attracted Nicholas’s attention. Remorseful that she may lose her job on his account, he offers her a choice – she can wait until her supervisor dismisses her, or she can leave the city of lights behind and become his personal assistant.

Acacia initially refuses his offer, but Nicholas is persistent. He reveals himself as a man who quietly acquires stolen art in order to restore it to its rightful owners. Faced with mounting familial debts and the possibility of dismissal and deportation, she agrees to work for him.

Nicholas opens up a whole new world of beauty and intrigue to Acacia as they travel the globe. Soon the line between employer and assistant is blurred, and the two lonely people embark on a passionate relationship.

AUDIBLE ~ Narrated by Robertson Dean

“Art is for everyone, but without access, it becomes elitist.”

The Man in a Black Suit is an exceptionally good read for various reasons. Staccato sentences used in the intriguing prologue become a rhythmic sequence of words instantly capturing our attention. Also, the pace of this story kept us on edge in a standalone novel which is so much more than a romance. Mystery and suspense flow non-stop; sublime character development and remarkable dialogue in just the right places, (yeah, we’re suckers for it), couldn’t have been better. Were we able to put this book down? No…we read it in one sitting! Disconnect from daily humdrum? Absolutely! To give you an idea of the plot without letting on, Reynard has touched on delicate world issues in an extremely realistic manner. He unleashed his storytelling abilities through a nail-biting narrative, respecting our beliefs and opinions regarding the difficult times we live in, and all we can do is categorize his writing as masterful. And before we go any further, the cover has to be mentioned. In keeping with the author’s other book covers, this one is no less elegant, eye-catching and as always, manages to capture the feel.

“We create something together we don’t have apart.”

Reynard’s heroes and heroines love hard, are vocally expressive with their sentiments and desires so, therefore, it was of no surprise for us to find his protagonists truly lovable. Regardless of the difference in their cultural backgrounds which we have to add, refreshingly innovative, he hit home—made them come alive in our sitting room, made us root for them.

“You’re beautiful and charming and good.”
“Don’t put me on a pedestal. I’ll fall.”
“I’ve got you Acacia.”

Nicolas Cassirer didn’t keep us guessing for long, Acacia Santos was for us, a tad enigmatic seeing as her past wasn’t clear until well into the read. But even when thrown into the most complex of situations, her actions spoke louder than words. Both are talented, strong-minded and both are on par with each other. Of course, we didn’t find out how she’d acquired her many talents straightaway. Once the story unravels, all revealed literally left us aghast.

“…. I don’t want anything from you.”
“Perhaps that’s why I want to give you everything.”
“You are the only one who never wanted anything from me.”

Never acting in haste, Nicholas has a vengefully well-thought-out plan. His reasons for taking such a dangerous path are comprehensible, heartbreaking and open up in a world of art taking the reader on a journey across the globe. He fiercely believes in an ‘eye for an eye’, but little did he know who or what he’d be up against. Much to Acacia’s concern and of her own doing, she’s caught up in the crossfire putting her career in jeopardy. Ahh, but as you will see, this woman is not just your ordinary concierge.

“I’m a concierge, not a saint.”
“Nor am I, mademoiselle, I assure you.”

We adored the references to certain works of art, artifacts and relics that had us consulting their accuracy. We shouldn’t have been worried though. Reynard’s forte is without a doubt, detail. Not only does he know what he’s talking about but more importantly, makes the reader want to know more about cities visited, countries’ cultures, understandings and religious tendencies. If only we could overcome disputes with such finesse as does he, what a beautiful world it would be!

“You can’t fault an art collector for appreciating beauty.”
“I’m not eager to be collected.”
“If a man were fortunate enough to win you, he’d give away his collection.”

Secondary characters play a huge part and we loved to hate them…or not! As did Acacia, we had to gain our own perspectives and not dwell on certain incidents which took place! Ooh, and we mustn’t forget the steamingly hot scenes. Reynard held back in The Man in the Black Suit just enough to get us wondering whether or not their attraction for each other was going to flower into something more. Playing the waiting game is his style; was it worth it…boy oh boy, a definite yes! We can’t recommend this read enough. It has everything and more besides and for us is a must one-click. Bravo Sr Reynard!

Paris, France ~ Present Day

The man in the black suit exited the limousine in front of the Hotel Victoire on the beautiful Avenue George V, a short distance from the Champs-Élysées.

Dark sunglasses shielded the man’s eyes. He surveyed the area as he buttoned his suit jacket before walking in step with his bodyguard. The man’s cellphone buzzed as he entered the hotel.

He removed his sunglasses and stared at the screen. His footsteps ground to a halt, as did his bodyguard, who stood watch.

The man’s thumb skated across the screen as he scrolled through a series of photographs. His expression darkened. He jabbed a finger at the phone and placed it to his ear.

“Freeze Silke’s accounts and change the locks on her flat.” He spoke in German, his tone low and commanding. “No, don’t notify her. She’s violated the terms of our agreement in the most egregious way possible. She knows what she’s done.”

The man ended his call and continued his walk toward the reservations desk. He moved with the kind of fluidity and command that caused heads to turn—as if he were a professional athlete.

He was very tall with dark hair, large, dark eyes, and a lean, athletic form. With the exception of one glaring deficiency, he would have been termed attractive, even handsome.

Céline, one of the front desk agents, smiled at him widely. “Welcome back to Hotel Victoire, Monsieur Breckman.” She spoke in French, taking care to look straight into his eyes. “We’ve prepared your usual suite.”

The man nodded.

Céline glanced behind him and noted the presence of the large, burly bodyguard. “Will Mademoiselle Rainier be arriving later?”

“Mademoiselle Rainier will not be arriving.” The guest glared. “Strike her name from the reservation.”

He pivoted, and his handmade leather shoes tapped against the marble floor as he crossed to the concierge’s desk. The agent stared after him, stunned.

Settling himself in an ornate chair in front of the concierge’s desk, the man slid his finger across his cellphone screen. “I need to speak with Marcel.”

“I’m sorry, Marcel isn’t in today,” the concierge replied. “My name is Acacia. May I be of service?”

The man lifted his dark eyes to meet hers. He was displeased. “I spoke with Marcel yesterday. He was arranging a meeting.”

“Of course. And your name?”

The man huffed impatiently. “Pierre Breckman.”

The woman turned to her laptop and pressed a few keys, her hazel eyes scanning. “I’m sorry, Monsieur Breckman. There’s nothing in your records about a meeting. Would you like me to reserve one of our salons?”

“No, I would like you to produce Marcel.” He stared at her with mounting hostility.

Acacia’s gaze strayed to the left side of his face.

A long scar curved across his cheek and edged toward his mouth. It was white against his tanned skin and very deep, as if someone had attempted to cleave his face in two. He was an elegant man in all other respects, which made the scar that much more jarring.

His dark eyes narrowed. “Find Marcel. Now.”

Acacia jolted, her hand moving instinctively to the curls at the right side of her face. She gave him a repentant look. “I’m sorry.”

The man leaned forward. “Keep your eyes on my accounts. I’m sure you won’t find them repulsive.”

Acacia glanced over at the bodyguard, who stood at the end of her desk. He was even taller than Monsieur Breckman, standing at six-foot-six and weighing at least two hundred and fifty pounds. His head was shaved, and he had pale blue eyes.

She consulted her laptop. “Marcel booked your usual table at Guy Savoy’s at eight o’clock this evening. Will you be needing a car?”

“No.” The man sat back in his chair. As if in retaliation for her perusal, he shamelessly assessed her intelligent hazel eyes, her tan and flawless skin, and the black, curly hair she wore in a bob. His upper lip curled. “Marcel said he’d be on duty.”

“Yes, monsieur. I was called in to replace him.”

“I’m a member of Les Clefs d’Or.” Her fingers brushed past the jaunty scarf she wore at her throat and touched the gold keys pinned to her lapel. “Marcel is my senior colleague, but I can assist you with whatever you may need.”

“I don’t need your assistance. I need Marcel.” The man tapped his phone with short, staccato motions. When his call connected, it went to voicemail. “He isn’t answering his mobile. Ring him at home.”

“I’m afraid Marcel cannot be reached.” Acacia’s voice was strained. She tried to hide her distress by consulting her computer. “He arranged for champagne and fruit to be delivered to your suite, and he noted your allergy to strawberries. Shall I arrange your usual breakfast for tomorrow morning?”

“I ask you about Marcel and you reply with strawberries.” The guest’s eyebrows snapped together angrily. “Has Marcel left the country?”

Acacia looked up in puzzlement. “No, monsieur.”

“Is he dead?”

“Certainly not!”

“If Marcel hasn’t left the country and he isn’t dead, then why isn’t he here?”

Acacia forced a smile. “Monsieur Breckman, I would be more than happy to—”

The man stood abruptly and returned to the front desk, where he addressed Céline. “Tell the manager to find Marcel and send him to my suite. The concierge on duty seems to have difficulty fulfilling the simplest of requests. I asked for Marcel no less than four times, and she refused to assist me.”

The man strode toward the elevators with his bodyguard, his footsteps echoing angrily through the lobby.

Meet Sylvain

I’m interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition – particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I’m also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

I try to use my platform as an author to raise awareness about the following charities: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation, WorldVision, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and Covenant House. For more information, see my Charities page.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Harper Sloan returns with a passionate and breathless romance about the sparks that ignite when a cautious cowboy and a once-scorned woman open up to each other in the third installment of the Coming Home series.

As the eldest Davis, Clayton has always tried to lead by example. He takes his job as head of the family businesses seriously, making sure the farm and auto shop are running smoothly—along with keeping an eye on his brother and sister. For him, there’s a time and place to let go of the control he holds with an iron grip. And with the way he grew up, coupled with a disastrous end to his last relationship, he’s just fine with his quiet, solitary life.

Most of the time.

What he hadn’t counted on was the cute, quirky, shy bookstore owner, Caroline Michaels. She’s the proverbial woman next door—well, the next town over, that is. Caroline hasn’t lived an easy life, but after escaping a verbally abusive ex, she’s finally living it for herself. The last thing she ever expected was a one-night stand with Clay Davis she can’t stop thinking about.

So when she falls on hard times and Clay comes out of nowhere to her rescue, she realizes just how impossible it’ll be to stay away from him. Now all she has to do is convince him to live a little…. Will Clay be able to give up the reins and finally settle down? And, more importantly, will Caroline muster enough courage to lasso him up?

This is the third book of the Coming Home series and can be read as a standalone but would greatly help if you have read the previous books featuring the other Davis siblings, Maverick the younger brother and Quinn the little sister.

We finally get to read Clayton’s story, the eldest of the Davis siblings, the dark and brooding cowboy who is allergic to commitments. He is the protective brother of Maverick and Quinn. Happy that his siblings have settled down and starting their own families, Clay seems happy enough for them but how is he coping? And then there is Caroline, owner of a bookstore who escaped from an abusive relationship, she’s coasting through life, wary and shies away from men. This pair’s first meeting starts with an unforgettable one night stand and it was meant to stay that way. Little do they know that they both have mutual friends and a few months later they meet again.

This contemporary romance is a wee bit slow at the beginning but quickly picks up the pace of the sizzling chemistry between the main characters. Reading about the other siblings Maverick and Leigh who are expecting a baby and Tate and Quinn the youngest sibling who is also expecting makes this book the perfect reunion for the whole family. As expected the author gave us very entertaining banter between the characters that made me giggle and laugh. Clayton’s words will sweep you off your feet. “There’ll never be a day that I don’t love you. Not one. I wasn’t plannin’ on you, baby, and I know you weren’t plannin’ on me, but sometimes what we need to finally feel whole is what we least expect. You are that for me.”

Caroline’s shyness stems from her mother’s verbal abuse when she was young. She ran away with her boyfriend at eighteen and she ends up in another abusive relationship, the lady needs someone to rescue her. She might be the independent lady she is now, she grew a backbone but a woman still needs her knight in shining armour. “You rode in on your white horse, knocked me on my butt, but saved me in the end. My knight in pressed flannel and Wranglers.”

Clay and Caroline’s story is a signature Harper Sloan cowboy romance.  Clay is a dark and brooding alpha cowboy who is not afraid to show his emotions and cry. Then there is Caroline who started as a weak and shy heroine and later on is empowered by her man’s support and love and growing her own backbone as well. It looks like everything is hunky dory but then their exes resurface like bad pennies and the drama builds up. I love the epilogue in this book, the perfect finale to this fun-filled, heart-stopping epic romance involving the Davis siblings.

I push my hands from his shoulders and palm his jaw as his stubble prickles against my fingers while my hands wander up to his hair. His hat falls to the ground with a thud and I know he’s just as lost in me as I am in him, because he doesn’t even make a move to pick it up. He lets out a deep grunt when I mold myself against his body, seeking some sort of friction. The next thing I know, my back is against the door and he’s gripping my bottom. His mouth hits my jaw with a bite of his teeth, making a squeak of pleasure shoot up my throat, and his deep rumble of laughter reaches my ears as he presses me harder into the door with his hips. The heavy bulge of his erection against that spot makes me so desperate for him that I whimper in relief when his mouth finally closes over mine in a wet tangle of tongues.

I’ve never been kissed so thoroughly.

This is the kind of kiss that sets the bar for any that might follow.

The kind that shows you everything you’ve been missing and everything you never knew you wanted. I’m going to be comparing every kiss I ever have to my dark cowboy’s, even though I know there’s a good chance no one will ever compare. The sounds coming from my mouth, the ones being swallowed by his, are nothing short of needy. My hips move in tandem with the thrusts of his, and even though we’re both fully clothed, I know it won’t take much more of this for me to go off like the town’s fireworks on the Fourth of July.

“Fuck, you taste just like apple pie,” he whispers against my lips, breaking away with a gasp.

“Goddamn, I love apple pie,” he says before his mouth is back on mine, this time with a whole new kind of hunger deepening his kisses.

I’m held captive, enraptured. Then his hands move from my bottom to glide up my torso. He lifts his hard chest off mine and suddenly those delicious fingers are at my breasts. Even if I had big boobs his hands would dwarf them, I’m sure, but as it is he covers both with a firm grasp before adjusting his hold with a deft twist of the wrists. His mouth continues to feast on mine while his huge hands learn my body with slow movements. I tear my mouth from his with a breathy moan when he pushes my shirt up and slips his fingers into the cups of my bra to tweak my nipples.

“Oh, God,” I moan when he does it again.

“I can’t get enough of you,” he rumbles.

“Please,” I beg, not with the slightest clue as to what I’m begging for.

His hips dig even harder into mine as he leans back, supporting me against the door with that connection alone as he pulls my shirt off. The darkness makes me feel more confident than I normally would be, almost half naked with a man—no, a stranger.

“Yours too,” I tell him as his fingers move to unclasp my bra. “I want to feel your skin on mine,” I breathe, taking over the task so he’ll hopefully give me what I want.

I fumble in my haste to feel more of this dangerous arousal he’s creating in my body, but the second my bra is free and dangling toward the floor, his naked chest collides against mine, pushing me into the door with a force that sends the air rushing out of my lungs.

His mouth hits my collarbone at the same time his hands grasp my bottom, sliding me up the door until I feel the wet heat of his breath against my breast.

Then he stops.

It was then that she graduated to writing her stories on her phone and then finally on a proper computer.

Emma Scott:

I write romances with flawed characters, characters with artistic hearts: builders, poets, and writers of various makes and models. I love to write book lovers; those who have found refuge, companionship, and escape in books, much as we do in real life. I like realism, honesty, authenticity in storytelling. I love to write about enduring love, soul-deep love, in as real a setting as I can make, but with big smooshy HEAs. I believe in diversity, open-mindedness, and inclusion. I like sweetness mixed with steam, love conquering all, and above all, hope. Love always wins.

March has nipped the end of Anti-Heroes Collection in the bud! Her narrative skills went all out with a big bang, (pun unintended!), and to expect anything less from her didn’t even cross my mind. Why? Because Ruthless King #1 and Defiant Queen #2 had me engrossed to such an extent that I couldn’t possibly have doubted her penmanship which has grown in leaps and bounds. Book two’s ending affected me so much that when Sinful Empire hit my Kindle, I found myself tentatively turning the first few pages. What I read was not at all what I expected, therefore from there on in, I knew putting it down wasn’t going to be an option. I suggest you don’t do what I did and start it at daft o’clock. Sleep deprivation might just be on the cards but what the heck, it’s totally worth it! The title couldn’t be more fitting, either. Sinfully titillating, angsty and fast-paced, our anti-hero has no boundaries. He breaks the rules without remorse, makes them on his own accord and got this reader into a real state. No-one goes against him. Except what he’d never ever thought possible, happened!

Lachlan’s mysterious past unravels in flashbacks, showing how events compelled him to be as he is. It wasn’t until I was well into the book that I discovered another of his facets, helping me understand all the whys and wherefores. There’s no disputing that he’s unrelenting in business, but in affairs of the heart this man not only surprised me, but also himself. It was a joy to read how he’d gone to so many lengths to protect the woman who managed to make him see that what he’d done was for valid reasons. Ahh, but repercussions there are adding of course, to nail biting anxiety. Don’t get me wrong. He’s still terrifically terrifying and manipulating but in this read, his lack of moral virtues were lessened by positive traits he didn’t know he had in him.

I quite honestly think Keira had no chance. All said and done, how could one possibly fight an attraction as strong as theirs! Believe you me, these two hotten up even the coldest of nights! Both her and Lachlan learn to chose their battles, their banter nothing less than outstanding is extremely well-thought-out and had me smiling from ear to ear…most of the time lol! Their relationship isn’t without it’s ups and downs, and taking into consideration that both of them are stepping into a completely new territory, finding their footing and making sacrifices, is actually what this reader enjoyed most.

Keira’s strength sold me! Frivolities don’t exist in her book. She wants what she wants and goes for it without any compunction. Time and circumstances are elementary. Will it break-or-make her? It certainly put everything into perspective for me. Backlashes horrendously harsh made me cry out aloud. And I can’t say anymore without spoiling this tremendous read for you..

This love story is against all odds. It drew me in, it mesmerised me, it took me by storm. March’s writing in present tense from both characters’ points of view is not an easy feat to pull off. The inner-dialogue is also crucial since the reader has the chance to delve into the protagonist’s’ thoughts but… March’s narrative skills were hands down. She did it! She cracked it and all I can say is simply BRAVO!

I have no idea if I can do a PS on a review! Why I am mentioning this is because my highlighted quotes were rife, but…and this is the big BUT…I have decided not to add them to this review. I want all you future readers to enjoy this read as much as I did without being influenced by them. Read it, make your own minds up and enjoy!

Life can change in a split second, a minute moment, an infinite hour.

For Laura Hamilton, her split second lasted 2,880 minutes. 48 hours to be exact. She barely escaped with her life. With a body full of scars and a heart full of hurt, the twenty-nine-year old clothes designer spent the following eight years clouded with grief, believing herself to be too broken to ever see the beauty in her surroundings again.

After a last-ditch attempt to scrape some semblance of her pieces together goes disastrously wrong, Laura’s pushed pin guides her to the sleepy village of Beaufort. No longer content to hide behind her sister, or languish in the depths of her sorrow, she finds a measure of peace among paranoia and fear, carving out an existence she is almost comfortable with.

Laura inadvertently catches the eye of the enigmatic hotelier and newcomer, Lucca Rinaldi. For the first time, her heart begins the slow trip towards letting another man into her life. Passion and pain go hand in hand when the couple finally meet.

Little does she know that Lucca’s history is not so far in the past as he thinks. His troubled affairs follow hot on his heels, bringing scorn and hate back into her fold. When their pasts collide with explosive consequences, Laura’s bitter memories threaten to pull her under when a walking nightmare crashes back into her life, bringing terror along for the ride.

The seconds are counting down – but who gets to call time?

*Please note – suitable for 18+ only due to adult/graphic themes and possible trigger content.

This is the second book to the Razer series and continues the story of sisters Laura and Taylor and best friends Lucca and Ryder. This romantic suspense novel is written in multiple points of view.

Calling Time deals with characters that are emotionally damaged, dealing with their horrific past and tackles domestic abuse. A well written story, a tale of love, pain and resilience. This is not your ordinary fluffy feel good kind of romance. Lucca and Laura both have broken pasts. Lucca is trying to deal with his soon to be ex wife, Stella and Laura running from her past and her ex- fiancé.

The relationships amongst the main characters are extensively explored and you grasp the family dynamics between Laura and her sister Taylor, how they rely on each other’s strengths to get them through the trauma of their pasts. Lucca’s close bond with his son Ayden, his best friend Ryder and the toxic relationship with his wife, Stella make you want to dig deeper into his psyche. Why does a person allow things to happen and not do something about it?

This story is fast paced and addresses serious issues that makes you want to psychoanalyse each character. I admire Laura’s new found strength when faced with the monster from her past. Will Laura choose to shed her chains of trauma and embrace a new beginning with Lucca? How does one get rid of a psychotic, vengeful and evil ex?

Some books you can read and skim through quickly and the endings are quite predictable, not this one though. Author KA Sands creates characters and situations in this story that draws you in deeper. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it.

Early Feedback

Wow, this book has definitely left me speechless and that doesn’t happen too often!! Calling Time surprised me with its darker element of both of its main characters; Laura and Lucca. ~ Lady Living In Bookland

This book is one you should definitely read, it will keep you glued to the pages from beginning to end, I promise. ~ A Book Lover’s Emporium Book Blog

K A Sands is an exciting new author who has a passion for reading and more often than not, can be found with her nose stuck in a book. She loves angsty, dark reads but is not averse to the fun, light hearted side either. Typically, a romance reader, of most genres/sub genres, she loves reading a debut herself. Her passion for the written words goes back to her childhood and she has always dreamed of writing and telling the world her stories.

Not quite a stay at home mum, K A Sands has a busy life which she shares with her husband of twenty-two years and her little monkey boy. Her adult children have flown the coop already, but still manage to come home for ‘mama’s lasagne.’

Avid eater of mayonnaise and chips, anti-get-fitter, lover of cheesy music and a fierce advocate of things close to her heart.
