HLMK- Teaser 4

Sometimes love needs a second chance…

I never looked back after skipping out on my own wedding, even if it did leave me estranged from most of my family. Eight years later, I have the life I’ve always wanted. As an advertising account executive, my world is damn near perfect.

Until I come face-to-face with my past. With the man I once loved. The man who holds my future in his hands. The man who’s hell-bent on getting even with me for leaving him at the altar.

Even with all the unfinished business between us, I still love Knox Montgomery. The only problem?

He loves me…KNOT.

This type of book doesn’t come around nearly enough for me, a type of book that transcends even my wildest expectations. I originally picked the book up to just have a quick peek, five chapters later, I was truly hooked. The way it started was extraordinarily fun and heartbreaking all at once. Fun wasn’t what the author was going for, but when you start reading the first chapter and it starts the way this did, it hooks you in the mouth and pulls you in hard, forcing emotions you didn’t know you’d feel or felt you shouldn’t feel. Laughing whilst someone is going through the worst day of their lives made me feel guilty. I have been left wondering if this was what the author intended or whether it was just me?

Seamlessly, this author has woven a tale that tells both the story in the present as well as important events in Emma Jane and Knox’s lives from the past. Emma Jane was a woman haunted by the tough southern expectations of her father and his obnoxious need to control her and her life. It’s all well and good that a father wants what’s best for his child, but this isn’t the case here, oh no! What Davis Haywood wants is a true southern belle Stepford daughter and that won’t ever be Emma Jane. She’ll never be an exotic bird, happy to live out its existence in a gilded cage. Emma Jane is a square peg in a round hole, happy in her uniqueness and individuality.

‘No daughter should feel she’s incapable of making her own decisions’.

“You thought the worse of me back then and this time ‘round, I thought the worst of you. Only thing is, you end up jumping ship each time, right?”

“You didn’t just fail to believe in me, Emma Jane. You didn’t believe in us.”

Knox holds onto his anger and heartache like a suit of armour. Driven by nothing but work he moves from one project to another, until one day he comes face-to-face with the woman he was meant to marry years previously.

“In all the gin joints, in all the world…”
‘One corner of his mouth tilts up in what some might classify a harmless smile.
It’s not. It has Big, Bad Wolf written all over it.’

For a small segment of this book Knox plays the part of the petulant child. His only saving grace is that the reader gets to hear his inner monologue and the reasons behind why he does what he does.

“You know what I want?” I explode suddenly. “I want it all back! All of it!”
“I would do it all over again, even though I know”—-“It means we don’t end up together.”

‘It’s that kiss that forces me to face what I’ve been trying to deny all along. What I’ve been denying for the past eight years.
I never got over Emma Jane.
I still lover her–the woman who shattered my heart.’

He Loves Me…Knot has some of the best secondary characters I have read in a very long time. They were all just as real and interesting/intriguing as Emma Jane and Knox. I loved Emma Jane’s grandfather, his gentleness and love for both Emma Jane and Knox was so perfectly clear from the very beginning.

“But you don’t mess with fate. You let me operate on its own timeline, Sweet Pea.”
“Always respect fate. It knows best. It always had a plan.”

Some of my favourite scenes were about Emma Jane and her two closest friends. When the chips were down they were there hundred and ten percent for Emma Jane and they never let her go through anything alone. Fiercely protective and loyal.

The title won’t make any sense really until read. I will always remember fondly the tradition Emma Jane has. A tradition she has used for most of her life. It’s such a true example of the sweetness and purity that is Emma Jane, even after what she has survived, she still have an angelic air to her. This book has enough angst, pain, and emotion to pull the reader in and drag them along at a pace that almost borders on unhealthy. I cannot remember the last time I read a book that affected me this hard. I often had that little voice inside my head screaming at me to pick it back up and read just one more chapter.

“I’d do it all over again.”
“Even though things turned out the way they did?”

“We do have unfinished business, but I’m okay with that. Because if I had my way, I’d always have unfinished business with you.”
‘I swallow past the nervous lump in my throat. “Forever.”’

4.5 Stars ~ Reviewed by Anna Green on behalf of KFF

I finished this book in the early hours of the morning and I don’t have enough words to describe how I felt. At one point did I feel like messaging the author, get down on my knees and beg her to “Please, please, please for the love of mercy, give Kylie and Jesse a break!”

This is probably one of the most difficult reviews I have to write only because there are not a lot of details I can share as I don’t want to give away any spoilers. This book is a standalone contemporary romance (with an unusual twist) about two people who both needed help and found each other. Written in alternating “past” and present scenarios Kylie is a former beauty queen who became a plus size princess and Jesse is a rock star on a downward slope to hell. They are both patients of Dr. Claire Stoddard, who plays a big part in their healing and is the catalyst to the couple’s future happiness.  What I like about the author is that she also created Kylie as a strong, beautiful and independent woman who tackles weight issues that a lot of us can relate to. And Jesse, oh how I would love to have my own Jesse!

I have let you into a place so deep, that it is dangerous. It is dangerous to feel what I feel. And I know that you know that. No one else is getting to that place besides you. And there’s only room for you as long as you choose to remain there.”

Serendipity, fate, destiny or whatever you call it Kylie and Jesse were always meant to be together. This book is not only about meeting your soulmate and finding “the one”.  When you read their story, you not only get romance but also a feeling of empowerment. Jesse and Kylie’s story elicits a myriad of emotions: everlasting love, despair, heartbreak and hope. Will they finally get their happily ever after? I would have given the book five stars but there is one question which I think should have been addressed regarding Claire’s actions. Highly recommended but I would suggest a box of tissues by your side.

‘But right now, all I’ve got are memories trapped in time

Of that moment when you were still mine

I’ll keep reaching and reaching and reaching

To grab hold of our love on the edge of time.’

About the Author

I must’ve been 5 or 6 when I started writing “stories”. I would write them and hide them.

Not wanting anyone to see my “secret” thoughts. I needed to write – even back then. Now I’m just not hiding them anymore. Is that a sign of maturity? Nah…

Writer, photographer, insatiable wanderluster, edge-player, foodie, music addict, pop culture fanatic, animal lover, warrior for the rights of people and planet, and avid cusser (am a Native New Yorker, so very little offends me…and if I am offended, it must be pretty freaking bad grammar!)

I am a big believer in signs and if we keep ourselves open, there are guideposts all along the way. Stay humble. Be true. Be you.

Life is not a dress rehearsal…

I’d spent six months denying my attraction to this man. Six long months of sitting across from him and listening to him command a call or dominate another employee. Hell, he’d dominated me, and knowing him as I did now? I liked it. And I didn’t want to wait another minute to show him.

Without giving myself too much time to think about what I was about to do, I bit my lip and slipped around the desk, only half listening to the other people on the call go back and forth about expectations and limitations. For once in my life, work would have to wait. I had a staff of people who could fill me in, and it was about time I utilized them. Right at that moment, I had an urge to do something to Colin. To have that man at my mercy.

He had definitely won the seduction game.

“You were cruel this morning when you teased me right to the edge and didn’t make me come.”

“Was I?”

“Yes. Definitely.” I pushed his shoulder, forcing his chair back, giving myself room to work. “I wore your favorite lipstick today.”

“I noticed.” He reached up, running his thumb over my bottom lip. I flicked my tongue against the tip, giving him a preview of what I had in store.

“It’ll leave a mark if I kiss you.” I dropped to my knees, unfastening his pants with a smile on my face. “Or do more than just kiss you.”

“I’m hoping for it.” His voice was deep, almost growly, and his eyes were bright as they held mine. This was a man who wanted, one who craved whatever I was promising. And that fact, knowing I could push him to the point of looking at me like I was a gift to him, made me feel far more powerful than sitting across from him in my suit ever had.

“I’d dream of this sometimes,” I said as I pulled his cock through the placket of his pants. “When we were on a conference call and there were people waiting for us to direct them. I would think about what it’d be like to slip under your desk and take you in my mouth.”

Colin ran his finger down the side of my cheek, breathing hard. Silent. But there was a tension about him. An energy that said he was ready to go off. And I couldn’t wait to be the one to make him.

I opened my mouth and ran my tongue around the head of his cock, staring into his eyes. Flicking the slit twice before placing a big, wet kiss to the tip. “I wonder if I can make the powerful Colin Huntley beg.”

He chuckled deeply, sighing as I wrapped my lips around the tip again and sucked. “I don’t beg, spitfire, but I’d beg for these lips around my cock. Every fucking night.”

I popped off him, licking the tip once more. “Someday, I’m going to make you prove it.”
