Nineteen. There’s something about that number; it not only brought us together, bonding us forever, it also played a hand in tearing us apart.

The nineteenth of January 1996. I’ll never forget it. It was the day we met. I was seven and she was six. It was the day she moved in next door, and the day I developed my first crush on a girl.

Exactly nineteen years later, all my dreams came true when she became my wife. She was the love of my life. My soul mate. My everything. The reason I looked forward to waking up every morning.

Then tragedy struck. Nineteen days after we married, she was in an accident that would change our lives forever. When she woke from her coma, she had no memory of me, of us, of the love we shared.

I was crushed. She was my air, and without her I couldn’t breathe.

The sparkle that once glistened her eyes when she looked at me was gone. To her, now, I was a stranger. I had not only lost my wife, I had lost my best friend.

But I refused to let this tragedy be the end of us. That’s when I started to write her letters, stories of our life. Of when we met. About the happier times, and everything we had experienced together.

What we had was far too beautiful to be forgotten.

I really hit the jackpot discovering this new author and for me, Nineteen Letters couldn’t have been a better introduction to Ms Perry’s writing. Ooh boy, did it click on all the spaces on my emotional checklist or what! Definitely–and although it’s not a easy read, once I got into the book, I couldn’t put it down. But saying that, writing this review resulted in a difficult task since disclosing even the smallest of details would spoil this standalone for the future reader. One thing is for sure, the plot and character development is sublime. If you’re a lover of banter like me, don’t expect it to be overflowing with chit-chat. Of course, this made a lot of sense seeing as the title is what it is, Nineteen letters! Actually, number nineteen is also highlighted throughout the story entwining breath-taking memories of the two protagonists’ lives. These letters written from the heart are so beautifully elaborated, they gave me an in-depth look into the past lives of a newly married couple.

Braxton’s soul-felt words become a liveline between him and his young wife, Jemma. He’ll do anything in his power to recuperate what he’s lost; yet he doesn’t bombard her with trivialities, he takes his time and lightens up a bad situation by adding touches of humour. My eagerness to read his next letter was on par with Jemma’s. Mind you, she’s not very cooperative to begin with which I liked a lot. Braxton’s gorgeousness, mind and body, made me weaken at the knees! If there were ever a book boyfriend so enwrapped in passionate feelings, in my book, he’d win hands down! Thus far, he’s really got it cut out for himself but never gives in, his determination to get back the woman he has adored since a young child, never wavers.

Jemma’s insecurities abound which is totally comprehensible under the circumstances she’s in. Her frame of mind worried me no-end. Her moods swing and at times her frustration gets the better of her, but every letter was like an elixir calming troubled waters. Watching Jemma grow stronger mentally and physically was a joy. Little things mentioned in their love story, are huge steps in the right direction.

And folks, as much as I’d love to tell you more about these two lovebirds, I’m not going to! I will say that I, for the most part, was overwhelmed. And the missing star! I really hated not being able to give Jemma and Braxton’s story one more, but I found a few grey areas regarding her recovery. What happened to Jemma was dreadful; everyone who cared for her suffered, but a past experience I’d had similar to hers gave me a comparison. I know what many of you are going to say…that all said and done, it’s only a story. Nonetheless, I did feel that the author could have investigated a little more into Jemma’s physical condition. This little detail shouldn’t stop you one-clicking this beautifully narrated tale of never-ending love. Bravo!

It’s a wet and dreary morning is the first thing I hear when the radio booms to life, alerting me to the fact it’s time to get up.
Dreary doesn’t even come close. The thought of no longer being able to spend every waking minute with my gorgeous husband has already put a dampener on my day. I can’t believe our time off together has come to an end. I hate that I have to go back to work this morning, and leave the little bubble Braxton and I have been living in for the past four weeks.
Right up until the wedding, things were so busy with our careers, building our dream house and organising our special day. Everything combined seemed to take away from us being together. This one-on-one time we’ve had since tying the knot was just what we both needed.
‘Morning, Mrs Spencer.’
He rolls onto his side, pulling me further into his warm, luscious body. It has been exactly nineteen days since we exchanged wedding vows, and I’m still floating.
‘Morning, Mr Spencer.’ I lean my forehead against his. ‘I’m not ready to go back to work. I can’t stand the thought of spending the entire day without you.’
He chuckles as his teeth nip at my pouting lip. ‘I feel exactly the same way, babe. Our time off has gone way too quick. We should have taken two months off, instead of one.’
Despite him being a constant figure in my daily life, for the past nineteen years, I still get a rush when I think about what our future together holds.
I met Braxton when my parents and I moved in next door. We were just kids, but we’ve been inseparable ever since. He’s my one and only. He always has been, and always will be. He’s not only the love of my life; he’s my best friend, my soul mate, my forever boy.
He’s incredibly dreamy, with his movie-star looks. I run my fingers through his sandy blond hair as my eyes roam over his perfectly sculpted face; his big blue eyes pop against his tanned skin. He has a smile that makes my knees weak. His front tooth turns in ever so slightly, but it takes nothing away from his Colgate-worthy smile.
When he realises I’m checking him out, the sexy grin that I adore appears on his face. It highlights the cute dimple in his left cheek. To this day, he still manages to turn my insides to mush, but it’s his inner beauty that affects me the most.
‘I could always call in sick,’ I say, perking up for a moment, but in reality I know it’s not possible. I have a big client coming in first thing Monday morning, and I need to prepare.
‘If I didn’t have this damn meeting later this morning, I’d say do it,’ he replies, smiling.
‘I’m going to miss you.’
‘I’m going to miss you too, Jem. The past four weeks have been my kind of heaven.’
I sigh. ‘I’d give anything to be back in Kauai right now.’
My fingers move from his hair and skim down the side of his face as I speak. The beach has always been our favourite place. That’s why we built our dream home overlooking the ocean. The soothing sound of the waves crashing against the shore as I drift off to sleep every night, and the sweet smell of sea air first thing in the morning . . . it’s cathartic. It’s also one of the reasons we chose Hawaii—a beautiful villa on the majestic shores of Tunnels Beach—as the place to spend the first two weeks of our married life.
‘Me too.’ He gives me a wistful look. ‘I’ll take you back there over the Christmas break, I promise.’
‘I’d like that.’ My fingertips dance over his collarbone, before moving across his shoulder. When I run a path down his strong back, he groans.
I sigh again when I think that Christmas is ten months away, but I guess we have the rest of our lives together to create the kind of memories we did in Hawaii.
Untangling my legs from his, I pause briefly. I don’t want to leave him. I exhale a drawn-out breath. ‘I suppose I better jump in the shower.’
‘Would you like some company?’
Reaching for me, he rolls onto his back, taking me with him. I laugh when he wiggles his eyebrows. I straddle his waist before covering his mouth with mine. My shower can wait. Making love to my man is much more important.
Sliding forward, I line myself up. His strong hands grip my hips, and we moan in unison as I sink down onto him. My eyes lock with his as I slowly rock my body against him. ‘I love you, Brax.’
‘I love you too, Jem. So much.’
He reaches for my hands, lacing his fingers through mine. We’ve always had such a strong bond, but when we’re connected like this, we become one. I’ll never tire of these feelings he evokes in me.
There are times I feel guilty because together, we’re perfect. None of our friends have the kind of relationship Braxton and I do. What we have is unbreakable. Sometimes my feelings for him overwhelm me. I’m not sure how either of us would survive without the other.

As I rush around putting the finishing touches on my make-up, I catch a glimpse of Braxton in the mirror. He’s leaning up against the doorframe watching me get ready. He’s shirtless and wearing a pair of grey sweats that hang low on his hips. My pulse quickens as my eyes rake over his bare chest, and each delicious muscle that defines his torso, from the perfect V just above the waistband, right up to his washboard abs. One of my favourite things to do is watch him work out on the small home gym he set up in the garage. I don’t think he even realises how sexy he is. Growing up, he didn’t notice the way all the girls swooned over him. But I did.
My eyes move back to his, and the adoring look on his face sends my heart into a flutter. The sheer love I feel for this man consumes every fibre of my being. It’s euphoric.
‘How long have you been standing there?’ I ask as my mouth curves into a smile.
‘I’m just admiring my beautiful wife.’ I love hearing him call me his wife.
He pushes off the doorframe and stalks towards me. When his arms encircle my waist, he pulls me back into him. A soft moan falls from my mouth as his lips trail a path up my neck. I tilt my head to the side, allowing him better access.
‘I’m already running late,’ I breathe.
‘I wish you didn’t have to go.’ His warm breath on my skin leaves goosebumps in its wake.
‘Me either.’
‘The next eight hours are going to feel like an eternity.’
I sigh in agreement. ‘I know.’
His tongue glides over the sensitive spot behind my ear, sending shivers down my spine. He did that on purpose. ‘Don’t make any plans for tonight, because I’m taking you out to dinner.’
‘You’re taking me out? Where?’
‘The Sea Shanty.’ He groans as he sucks my earlobe into his mouth.
‘What’s the special occasion?’
‘Our anniversary.’
My eyes fly open to meet his in the mirror. ‘Our what?’ My mind starts to race. What anniversary?
He turns me in his arms so I’m facing him, and pulls a small black box from his pocket. ‘I was going to give this to you tonight, but I want you to have it now. Happy nineteenth anniversary, sweetheart.’
My hands tremble slightly as I take hold of the box. That’s when I remember that today we have been married for nineteen days, and a huge smile breaks out on my face. The number nineteen has always held special significance for us.
Tears of happiness pool in my eyes as I open the lid. Inside I find a white-gold necklace that’s holding a diamond-encrusted number-nineteen pendant.
‘Oh Braxton, it’s beautiful. I love it . . . I love you.’
He smiles as he tucks a lock of hair behind my ear. ‘I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you, Jem.’
A lump forms in my throat and I feel like I’m choking back tears. I use my hand to fan my eyes; I don’t have time to redo my make-up.
Taking the box out of my hand, he removes the necklace. ‘Turn around, and hold up your hair.’ I do as he asks, gathering my long brown hair on top of my head so he can fasten the necklace. ‘Perfect,’ he says, planting a soft kiss on my skin at the base of my neck.
My fingertips glide over the pendant as I admire it in the mirror. ‘Thank you . . . I’ll treasure it.’
Sliding his arms around my waist again, he rests his chin on my shoulder, and his eyes meet mine in the mirror. ‘You know, I’ve been thinking . . .’
‘That could be dangerous.’
I laugh when he pokes my side.
‘I want you to stop taking the pill.’
I feel my heartbeat accelerate as I swing around to face him. ‘You do?’
‘Yes. It’s time we gave it another try, Jem. I want to see our baby growing inside you.’
I swipe my finger under my eye to catch the stray tear that has fallen. ‘I want that too, but what about my job? We just took out a second mortgage to build this house . . . we need the money.’
He exhales before continuing. ‘I know how much your career means to you, but you’re giving so much of yourself to that bastard, Andrew. We both know he doesn’t appreciate you. Why don’t you think about setting up your own interior design business from home? That way you’d be here to look after our son, and still be able to do what you love.’
‘Or our daughter,’ I say with a smile.
‘As long as our baby is healthy, I don’t care what sex it is.’ I bow my head as memories of that day flood my mind. I want this so badly, but I’m scared.
‘Can we talk more about it tonight over dinner? Andrew’s going to chew me out if I don’t get to the office soon.’
‘He better not!’
I run my finger over his forehead, trying to flatten out the crinkles of his frown. I love how protective he is. He hates the way my boss treats me, but he’d never interfere because he knows how much I love what I do.
The rain has eased by the time I’m ready to leave, but Braxton still insists on walking me out so I don’t get wet. ‘Bye,’ I say reluctantly, when we come to a stop beside my car.
‘Don’t let Andrew keep you any later than needed.’
‘I won’t,’ I say, placing my lips against his. ‘Good luck with your meeting. They’re going to love the new design.’
‘I hope so.’ He opens the driver’s-side door, and moves the umbrella closer to shield me from the rain. ‘Be careful on the roads, they’ll be slippery.’
‘I will. Stop worrying.’
‘I’ll always worry where you’re concerned, Jem. It’s my job to look after you.’
I smile up at him once I’m seated. ‘I love how much you love me.’
‘That’ll never change,’ he says, winking, as he closes my car door.
My heart feels heavy as I blow him a kiss and reverse out of the driveway . . . I miss him already.

I’m driving cautiously but still faster than usual on my way to work. I know I shouldn’t, considering the roads are slippery from all the rain, but the backlog of work I’m going to face from being on holidays for a month is making my stomach knot. Just the thought of facing Andrew in one of his moods this morning is quickly undoing all the calm I’ve felt while being away from him. Braxton’s idea of starting my own business is sounding better by the second.
I smile to myself as I replay his words in my head. My fingertips lightly skim over my stomach. I’d like nothing more than to have his baby growing inside me again.
‘Shit,’ I mumble to myself when the heavens open up. I turn the wiper speed up to full, but visibility is still poor. I can barely see the car in front of me now. I jump when my phone starts to ring. I grip the wheel tightly with my right hand as I reach across the passenger seat, my hand blindly fumbling in my bag as I try to find it.
I just know that it’s Andrew wondering where I am; I should have been there fifteen minutes ago. My chest tightens just thinking about it.
My eyes leave the road for a split second as I glance down at the screen. I was right, it’s him. As I attempt to accept the call, I hear the loud sound of an angry horn, and the screech of tyres. My head snaps to the left as my body is thrown violently sidewards. The sickening crunching sound of metal is almost deafening.
Images of Braxton and our life together flash through my mind as a crushing sensation consumes the right side of my body. My head connects with the driver’s-side window, and the sound of shattering glass fills my ears.
Oh god. I don’t want to die.
‘Braxton . . . Braaaax,’ I cry out as the world around me stills, and I succumb to the darkness.

Rule #1: No hot guys.

It might sound ridiculous. I get it. It kind of is, but college was supposed to be my sanctuary. It was my place to start over. The rumors, the whispers, and the jealousy I endured through high school would all be gone.

No one would know me at college.

Rule #2: No drama.

I’d major in pre-law. I’d make a few loyal friends. Everything would be easy breezy. No one was going to use me or hurt me. I wouldn’t let them.

Rule #3: New year. New place. New me.

And all because of Shay Coleman.

Football captain and quarterback, he was the big guy on campus. The cocky guy in my political science class with a smirk. I hated him on sight . . .

. . . and he was about to break all my rules.

I rarely come across a love story where there are no bad guys or an evil ex out to ruin the couple’s perfect relationship. The real conflict in this book is the main character’s past and present self.

When I read how Jayson and Delaney met and how their relationship progressed from there I wasn’t that overly impressed. I thought they were just a pair of loved up druggies who couldn’t hold a decent job for long. What I do admire about this two is their undying love towards each other sober or not. And then Jayson had the accident and everything changed. He couldn’t remember his name he forgot about his past and Delaney. Having a new identity and finding new love and a second chance at life seems to be the best thing that happened to him. When he meets Kitty, someone who comes from a well connected family and with a good heart, I thought there’s his chance he better grab it and never let go.

Reading about this complicated love triangle gave me conflicting emotions towards Jayson, Delaney and Kitty. When Jayson/Jon had amnesia after the accident he actually grew up and sorted out his priorities.  Delaney a young woman in her twenties hasn’t got much to her name either but for Jay her love is unconditional and she is willing to sacrifice her own happiness for him to live his new life. “I love him. I love him so much. It’s like he’s dying all over again. Like I’m dying. God please help me. Help me get through this. Make him remember me, or make him go away, because I don’t know how much more of this I can take.”

This is a well written standalone story and gave my heart a real tug of war.  The author’s words weave a truly beautiful romance and makes you believe in true love and finding your soulmate no matter where or what you have become. Because when true love finds its counterpart, it always recognises it. It’s all in the muscle memory. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and give it 4 stars!

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since …, forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

I’m a diehard fan of Ms Darhower and once again, she has showed me her versatile writing in all its glory. In fact, to say how this second chance standalone novel affected me is quite honestly, difficult to put into words. Firstly, the cover and title couldn’t have been more apt as significant notes and stars stand out where you’d least expect them to. Secondly, and more important to my mind of thinking, is how the past flows alongside the present like no other novel I’ve ever read. The protagonists reveal their innermost thoughts in a silent stream of self-consciousness. More often than not, giving themselves pep-talks reflect on what could have been, what they’ve missed out on–why it all went wrong and a striving-force-forgiveness by one of them opens up sorrow and pain.

The author’s narrative technique allows the reader to become fully aware of Jonathan Elliott Cunningham and Kennedy Reagan Garfield’s trials and tribulations. Therefore, the special attention given to weaknesses and failures isn’t to be taken frivolously regardless of their circumstances or age. Absolutely nothing is skimmed over. Every detail however minute, has relevance in a love story that ticked every box that I look for in Darhower’s quintessential storytelling. At times, feelings are let loose in a barrage of emotions which had me in tears. Also, I have to mention the masterfully created slow-burning tension in the plot. It snapples and cracks in the most unlikely scenarios, making this book an unputdownable one.

I didn’t connect to Jonathan straightaway. I found his attitude a tad overwhelming, a know-it-all dismissing the rules and regulations to spite others. Herein lies the crux of the matter. When his background is divulged, I discovered that the high expectations someone has for him aren’t even close to his, that tolerance is zero and the treatment he receives is heartbreakingly harsh. Then, understandably, I couldn’t help but to sympathise with Jonathan because in my opinion, he had every reason for being as he is. Super intelligent, he puts little effort into his studies making things worse. His popularity with teachers and fellow students alike isn’t exactly brilliant; however, a light at the end of the tunnel comes from the most unexpected source.

Just thinking about Kennedy while writing this review brings a lump to my throat. I didn’t like Darhower’s personality development of her, I. Loved. It! The contrast she’s construed in terms of her upbringing, traits and surroundings with Jonathan’s is nothing less than perfectly imperfect. She’s everything he isn’t, but like him, she has her hopes and dreams for the future. Regardless of her being a bit out of her league in the elitist school she attends where it’s not what you know, but whom you rub shoulders with, is sublimely executed. Keeping herself to herself, struggling without going unnoticed, is an impossibility…

Observing Kennedy and Jonathan’s friendship flower into love was a joy in itself. Whether it’s unconditional remains to be seen; nonetheless, Kennedy believes in Jonathan’s dreams of stardom because, all said and done, this lad’s got the talent. Sacrifices are made, time goes by and promises are broken. Issues so damn complicated, are dealt with on all levels sensitively since what the heck….this is Darhower at her very best! She’s written a well-balanced story that flows without any let up literally taking my breath away. The exceptional banter in just the right places made me yearn for more, the secondary characters engaged me and appropriately shifted the story, distracting me from what was the main characters’ bearings; but at the same time, is intertwined.

Obviously, it’s clear to see how much I adored everything about this story which I would without a doubt, recommend one-clicking. Oh, how could I ever forget the very essence of this romance! A very special little person who calms troubled waters so unknowingly, whose innocence had me on my knees, who makes makes this couple’s journey possible, strung my emotions in a knot, put me back together and left a huge smile on my face! If I could say that it was love at first sight in a book, this would be her. And if I could, I would have given Ghosted six stars and love to see it have prime position on my bookshelf. Bravo!

Psst… go in blind! I did! And please note that I haven’t added any quotes in this quotable story. I really didn’t want to spoil it for you regardless of however good they are!

This romantic love story revolves around two main characters. Jade and Jackson. Jade. Beautiful and alone. Her best friend sent her on this trip to spend some quality me time after the breakup of her relationship. Alone was just how she liked it until she clapped her eyes on a gorgeous guy staying at the same hotel. Jade wasn’t alone, three bikini clad women had also seen Jackson and were on a mission to capture his attention.

Jackson. Suave and handsome with bulging arms, tattoos and a cute British accent to boot. Had travelled to Bermuda before making a move across the pond to settle in New York City. As soon as he saw jade, she stirred his interest. He came up with the perfect solution that made him extremely happy. Spending time with the beautiful Jade and in the process, giving the three ladies the impression that he was taken.

Jade and Jackson struck a bargain. They would pretend to be husband and wife throughout the duration of their holiday to deter the three women going after Jackson. And as luck would have it, he was in the adjoining room to hers. At this point I have to tell you that part of the bargain was that neither one would tell each other anything personal, and that Jade and Jackson was not their real names. You just knew that this was going to come back and bite them on the bum (as we British like to say). It was a forgone conclusion.

Let the fun times begin. The chemistry between them was so strong you knew that their pretending was going to go a lot further. A glorious week of good weather, good food, good company and plenty of sex was what followed. Did I say SEX. The sex between these two was downright hot and the author conveyed this within the book which made the pages sizzle in some parts.

The week ends and they go their separate ways, but both are left feeling totally devastated. Their feelings are reciprocated, but both were frightened of rejection. I just wanted to bang their heads together. This is where the story gets really interesting. Are they destined to ever meet again? Or is one week all they were meant to have. I’m not going to give too much away and only say, read the book if you want to know what happens between these two. Their journey isn’t as straightforward as you would think. There are battles to overcome and issues that need to be resolved.

I couldn’t put this book down. I personally felt like I had been swept away to Bermuda for the week just to watch these two characters come together. The story was well written and flowed throughout the book. It was a pure romantic love story with a bit of naughty thrown in.  Just how I like it ! Jackson was British and from my neck of the woods which made me love him just that tiny bit more.

I look forward to reading more of Heidi’s work. Thank you for a most enjoyable read. I’m off now to try and book a sexcation. Wish me luck ! Ha ha ha.

I laugh and find myself tempted by her hand, which sits on the metal table. After our impromptu snogging session, Jade put on a nice little sundress which has my imagination running wild and some strappy sandals. Her toes are painted a turquoise blue. I found it a little weird at first; normally I see reds or pinks on toes, but rarely a blue colour. I quite like it. I like it a lot. In fact, I’ve yet to find something about this woman I don’t like.
“And yet, you didn’t. I came over and kissed you. You could’ve punched me, kicked me in the nuts, or groped me. I’m grateful you let me kiss you the way I did.”
She blushes again. “Why did you? I’m sure there are other, more beautiful women at the resort that would’ve been happy to oblige you.”
“But then I wouldn’t be here with my pretend wife, trying to get to know more about her.”
Her eyes don’t waver from mine as she takes a sip of her cocktail. “Do you really want to get to know me?”
“The fake you, yes. I don’t want to get cornered by one of the triplets and not know my facts.”
“Are they in fact, triplets?”
I shake my head. “I haven’t got a bloody clue, to be honest with you. Fake tits all look the same at the end of the day.”
Her mouth falls open into a sexy little O and images of other ways I can make that happen pop straight into mind. “I named them Muffy, Tuffy, and Buffy. The names seemed fitting,” she says with a shrug.
I crack the fuck up. “Then that is what we’ll call them until they leave.”

“Do you know when that is? Or what room they’re in?”
I lean over the table and pick her hand up. “They leave after us, and no, I don’t, thank goodness. I don’t care either. I made you a promise and I always keep my promises.” I bring her hand to my lips and let them linger against her skin until a passer-by makes a comment about us being in love.

Not love, lust though, and I couldn’t be happier that I chose her to be my distraction this week. When I finally let go of her hand, she picks up her drink and finishes it.

“Want another one?” I ask, already standing by the time she nods. I lean down and kiss the top of her head, inhaling the scent of her shampoo. The smell of grapefruit assaults my senses, making my heart race. I groan as I walk into the restaurant. I could’ve easily waited for the waitress to come back to us, but I needed to step away from Jade for a minute. She’s fucking deadly with her innocent façade and I have a strong reason to believe I’m going to fall victim to her and love every minute of it.
When I walk out, there’s a bloke talking to her as if it’s an everyday occurrence. I have never been jealous of any man until now. The pure rage I feel, watching him talk to my pretend wife almost takes over my body, yet I find the will to let it go. Who am I to stand in the way of her potential hook-ups?

Hollywood Scandal by Louise Bay
Release Date: August 22nd
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Hollywood Scandal, an all-new contemporary romance by Louise Bay is available NOW!!

One of Hollywood’s A-listers, I have the movie industry in the palm of my hand. But if I’m going to stay at the top, my playboy image needs an overhaul. No more tabloid headlines. No more parties. And absolutely no more one night stands.

Filming for my latest blockbuster takes place on the coast of Maine and I’m determined to stay out of trouble. But trouble finds me when I run into Lana Kelly.

She doesn’t recognize me, she’s never heard of Matt Easton and my million dollar smile doesn’t work on her.

Ego shredded, I know I should keep my distance, but when I realize she’s my neighbor I know I’m toast. There’s no way I can resist temptation when it’s ten yards away.

She has a mouth designed for pleasure and legs that will wrap perfectly around my waist.

She’s movie star beautiful and her body is made to be mine.

Getting Lana Kelly into my bed is harder than I’m used to. She’s not interested in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, but I’m determined to convince her the best place in the world is on the red carpet, holding my hand.

I could have any woman in the world, but all I want is the girl next door.

A sexy, standalone romance.

Matt Easton is a Hollywood superstar who needs to stop his playboy ways to sustain and further his career. He has his advisors keeping him in line and even a fake relationship to boot. Matt is filming his next movie and instead of staying close to the film crew and actors, he stays at the sleepy seaside resort Worthington in Maine where he rents a cottage. Matt intends on staying focused until a pretty little whirlwind rushes past him to peek his interest.

I really liked Lana Kelly. She’s a sweet tough cookie who works very hard with her shop and jewellery making. Noticing a stranger, she runs past giving her opinion, making Matt look stupid. Worthington Maine is where she feels safe from the big wide world. She soon discovers she’s rented out the cottage next door to the guy she gave an earful to, that Matt is the new temporary tenant. I loved the contrast. Lana isn’t interested in glitz and glamour she opts for the quiet anonymity of her life.

Matt and Lana get to know one another and they have a very strong connection, but their lives are worlds apart. The chemistry and companionship between the two heats up and they feel completely enthralled with each other; however, Matt going back to LA and his famous lifestyle is ever looming.

Lana has an inner battle with wanting to continue to see Matt but the very public life horrifies her. She’s had a bad experience in college which forced her to run back to Worthington to escape the fallout. We got glimpses of Lana’s friend, Ruby, who I found to be a very strong friend to her. I was thankful for her input as sometimes I wanted to slap Lana and make her see some sense. Although I did get where she was coming from, roll on Matt Easton! How could this hot man be turned down!

This a standalone and very different to what Ms Bay has offered in the past. The physical connection was off the charts steamy, and one had to fan themselves on a couple of occasions. The secondary characters were very amusing if somewhat eccentric and that gave the story a very light feel to it. I actually felt like I wanted to visit Worthington myself for a little holiday retreat just to see if all those people in the story live there. Great storyline, characters and yet again, another swoon worthy leading man. A beautiful love story worthy of five stars with believable characters and keeps you thinking after.

“You have a boyfriend?”

She took another sip of wine and set it back on the table before she replied. “You’ve half asked that before.”

I chuckled. True. Not that I was going to act differently if she told me—either way I needed to keep my distance. I just wanted to meet the man who had managed to land this woman. “And I’m still coming up empty.” I glanced at the rise and fall of her creamy breasts, only barely covered by her camisole, and swallowed. Hard. I really should leave.

“See that?” she asked, pointing up over the ocean. “Lightning. And again.”

“Wow, that nearly cut the sky in half.”

Our eyes locked first in excited, shared understanding and then the connection transformed into something that had nothing to do with the lightning. She looked away first. I would have stayed, my eyes fixed on hers the whole night, if she hadn’t. “The air feels charged with something.”

“I don’t have a boyfriend,” she whispered.

It was an invitation, and not one I wanted to turn down. I wanted to touch her, see if her lips were as soft as they looked.

“I want to kiss you,” I said, shifting so that she, and not the storm, had all my attention.

The thunder rumbled again.

Despite the noise surrounding us, I could only focus on the sound of her breathing. My pulse jumped under my skin, at my neck, in my wrists, in my dick.

I really shouldn’t be doing this.

But it was just a kiss.

And she was so beautiful.

And then it would be over.

I slid my thumb over her bottom lip. “Look at me,” I said.

My gaze flickered down as her breasts rose with her breath. It took every ounce of control not to yank her cami down and put my mouth on that warm, soft, pliant flesh.

As I looked at her, our eyes locked, and this time heat passed back and forth between us, growing more scorching with each passing moment.

She wanted me to kiss her. Maybe even strip her naked on this deck and fuck her hard and long until I knew every part of her.

I groaned, blood rushing to my dick, and leaned in to press my lips softly on the corner of her mouth. Her breath was hot and heavy against my cheek. I dropped my hand to her ass and slid her onto my lap.

Wrapping my hands around her silky hair that smelled of the ocean, I pulled, tilting her head back and exposing her neck.

I’d been kidding myself to think this was just a kiss. I wasn’t sure if it was because it had been so long since I’d fucked someone new or whether it was the storm or just the way Lana looked at me, but my whole body reverberated with lust. I wanted to touch, hold, possess her.

I trailed my teeth along her jaw and she squirmed in my lap. I slid my palms up her thighs and lifted her so she was straddling me.

Just a kiss. Right.

I wanted her closer, so I wrapped my hand around the back of her neck and brought her mouth to mine in a fractured, desperate connection. With my other hand, I pushed her ass against me. The heat of her covered pussy against my erection made me groan. Sliding my tongue against the seam of her lips, I delved deeper. Fuck, I’d forgotten how hot making out could be. The stuff before the fucking. Before my reform, it had been all about release. All about seeing how fast I could have a woman’s mouth wrapped around my cock after making eye contact with her.

But not now. Not out here on the porch with Lana. All I could think about was how I couldn’t fuck her, how I’d never make it that far.

She smelled so damn good. Tasted even better.
