Synopsis

Tonight, I walked off the end of the Santa Monica pier. I know I’m no longer alive, but somehow, I don’t feel as though I’m dead. This limbo is the story of my life and the reason for my death. I expected to burn in the depths of Hell. I expected to pay for my sins. I expected to suffer for the rest of eternity. What I didn’t expect was to find my soul mate. My name is Gabby and I’m in Purgatory. Unfortunately, this is not a euphemism. This is the story of my death.

Author’s note:

It was an honor to be a part of the Drazen World. I’ve been a fan and supporter of CD Reiss for a long time and having the chance to write about one of my favorite characters in the Submission series wasn’t something I could resist. Thank you Christine for making it possible!.
Purgatory was no easy feat.
I wanted Gabby to have a happy ending but since we all know that wasn’t her fate in the Submission series, I decided to go beyond.
What if…there is love after life?
What if…there is redemption in death?
What if…her life is a stepping stone to happiness?
I hope you enjoy reading the story of Gabby’s death as much as I loved putting it down on paper.
Happy Reading!

Having only read a co-authored book from Eva Lenoir, I started reading Purgatory not knowing much about this author’s style. The category/genre had not yet been defined and I also went in blind, without having read a blurb. Having finished reading I had felt I had read a good, solid four-star read but have, on reflection, decided on a five-star rating. I couldn’t find fault with it and it ticked all my five-star boxes.

I am not typically a paranormal romance reader. Purgatory was touted to me as having ‘otherwordly’ elements but not heavy on that particular content. I found this to be very true and as such I would recommend this to both readers of romance and PNR. If you’ve never read PNR but feel a little tempted then you’d do no wrong with this novella. I honestly feel readers of both genres will thoroughly enjoy and engage with Gabby’s story. Another point to note – you do not need to read CD Reiss’s Submission series but it’s highly recommended that you do because it’s excellent. Eva deposits enough information throughout Purgatory so the reader can enjoy it regardless, yet doesn’t give the game away. Guaranteed you will want to read more about the Drazen’s if this is your first time meeting them. Drazen fans should absolutely fall for Purgatory.

The problem with Purgatory for me? It wasn’t enough, I could have kept reading more but I got the whole point of the novella. The story is complete, there’s no second guessing what comes after as…Purgatory is after. Eva Lenoir’s penmanship is quite breath taking. I found myself caught up and whisked away with many of the words in this book, she seems to just have this way to make them read/sound beautiful. Emotions came through dialogue and scenery and it sweeps the reader away. Descriptively, Purgatory is very rich, so as you can almost imagine yourself sitting in those gray rooms. And it’s kind of a thinking book, the content giving you pause, asking yourself the same questions Gabby asks herself. Purgatory has a little of everything and if you don’t fall in love with it – well, there’s no hope, right?

A must-read book, very highly recommended!

Meet Eva

Eva LeNoir grew up travelling with her parents to various countries in the world. Reading was her constant companion during her travels and her ability to adapt to different cultures fed her mind with endless possibilities. The characters swimming in her head are always from various horizons with a multitude of dreams and aspirations. However, all of these voices always have one thing in common: The women are strong and independent. A true believer in the female cause, Eva’s wish is to portray the women in her books as the leaders. She sees them walking hand in hand with their partners and not be the sheepish followers of the male gender. But most of all, Eva LeNoir wants to offer her readers a moment of pleasure as they dive into the world of her mind’s creation.
