RELEASE BOOST                                           THE BAD GUY by CELIA AARON

Author: Celia Aaron

Title: The Bad Guy

Genre: Dark Romance

Release Date: 21st May, 2017

My name is Sebastian Lindstrom, and I’m the villain of this story.

I’ve decided to lay myself bare. To tell the truth for once in my hollow life, no matter how dark it gets. And I can assure you, it will get so dark that you’ll find yourself feeling around the blackened corners of my mind, seeking a door handle that isn’t there.

Don’t mistake this for a confession. I neither seek forgiveness nor would I accept it. My sins are my own. They keep me company. Instead, this is the true tale of how I found her, how I stole her, and how I lost her.

She was a damsel, one who already had her white knight. But every fairy tale has a villain, someone waiting in the wings to rip it all down. A scoundrel who will set the world on fire if that means he gets what he wants. That’s me.

I’m the bad guy.

Emma-Louise’s 5 ★ review on behalf of #KFF

The Bad Guy, a book about the “Antihero” the villain as Sebastian sees himself.

“Ever fairy tale has a villain, someone waiting in the wings to rip it all down.  A scoundrel who will set the world on fire if that means he gets what he wants.  That’s me.

I’m the bad guy”.

I am new to Celia Aaron and am also new to Dark Romance.  Not knowing where to start in a genre that has interested me, but I was never sure which book to dip my toe into the genre with.  The Bad Guy was a great place to start.

This book is told from multiple view points; Camille, Sebastian, and Link (Camille’s white knight). For a diagnosed psychopath Sebastian is highly functioning.  Appearing normal to the outside world, only his father and closest friends know his dark secret. From the moment Sebastian is introduced to Camille he becomes obsessed, committing highly questionable acts to get to know who Camille is.

“She makes me feel.

Your tears, they should make me sad, right? They don’t.  I see you upset and I think ‘I don’t want you to be unhappy’ but I don’t feel your sadness.  But her’—

When she cries, when she laughs; I feel it in here”.

She makes him feel, something he felt he would never do in his life.

“The fissure in my chest opened again, lava surrounding my heart and charring edges.  No amount of antacids could cure the feelings she brought to my surface.  Though I couldn’t be sure, I suspected the feeling was a mix of rage and pain”.

“I clenched my eyes shut.  She appeared behind my lids, her eyes glittering as she laughed and turned to run.  I chased her.  Would never stop chasing her”.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it was almost impossible to put it down and walk away even for a little while.  Sebastian has the kind of sense of humour that I relate heavily to, as he often has dark macabre thoughts.  Some of his thoughts are so reprehensible a normal person would not be having them.

“A vision of him with a knife protruding from his neck made me smile”.

This review has been the hardest to date. Not because I don’t know what to say, but what I can’t say about this book without giving away spoilers. This book struck a cord with me, one that I still can’t shake.  Sebastian’s personality and the nuances that made him, him, have left me with so many thoughts racing through my mind, I’m sure I’ll never do this book justice. To me, Sebastian wasn’t the bad guy, he may not have been the good guy either but to me he’ll always be the Black Knight, as he’s far too hot/raw to be a White Knight.

If you’ve never given a dark romance a go, this is the one to jump in with. It isn’t heavy, but it is dipping its toe into the dark pool.

From New York Times Bestselling Author, J.C. Reed, and USA Today Bestselling author, Jackie Steele, comes a sexy, new standalone romantic comedy.

I have everything I want.
Success. Wealth. Women…and make that plenty of those. As a filthy-rich CEO, I would say I’m pretty much close to perfection. Except for that one weakness: I’m cocky as hell, and an irresistible magnet for women.

So when one tiny mistake lands me in hot waters with the investors, I have one hell of a choice to make:

Restore my reputation…
Or risk losing my company.

I’m a man of my word and failure is not an option. Not now. Not ever. I fully intend to uphold my responsibilities.

Sharing an apartment should be easy, right? And it’s only for six weeks.
That’s what I thought before I found out that my new roommate is female.
And wow.
Vicky Sullivan is unlike any woman I’ve ever met.
She’s hot as sin, and crazy.
Definitely not my kind of crazy, but too hot to pass up.
There’s something about her that makes me rage with want.
I don’t like her, but obviously my dick does. And what he wants, he gets.

Six weeks…
Living together shouldn’t be too hard…
Until my best friend challenges me to a bet…
I make it my mission to make her mine.

There’s only one problem.
I have to break…Every. Single. Rule.
And did I mention she’s completely off-limits?

It’s too late to say no.

This is a story about two people who met at a rehab programme. One is a love addict and the other is a sex addict.

Kaiden Wright is a successful CEO with a six-pack abs. He is not into relationships and definitely no repeats. He came up with the idea of a 365-day non-stop sex calendar which landed him in hot water with his company and the reason why he ended up in a six weeks rehab programme.

“I aim to please, and I aim to return the favour, but I don’t do commitment. Not once, not twice. Never. The mere thought of a woman asking for my phone number causes my entire body to break out in a cold sweat.”

Vicky Sullivan is a nurse who works in a nursing home. She is in love with Bruce who keeps their relationship a secret from his family. She is totally blind to his shortcomings and strings her along and she just went with it. Her obsession and violating a restraining order forced her to join the rehab programme where she meets Kaiden for the first time when he is stark naked! And yes, they share an apartment and apparently the programme thinks it’s a clever idea to partner a sex addict with a love addict. And this is where the fun begins for these two characters.

I must admit I didn’t like Vicky’s character. She was weak, deluded and a total sap. For someone who is a professional nurse in her mid 20s she is so naive especially when she has unprotected sex with Kade knowing he is a sex addict! Her only redeemable moment was when she finally realises that her boyfriend Bruce was not the man she thought he was. It took a “Dear Vicky” letter from him to wake her up from La La Land though.

I really like Kaiden’s character. Even when he is in his sex machine mode, he is more intuitive than our female character. He prefers one night stands to relationships and he is honest about it.

The first half of this book was a bit slow for me but it picks up after 60% when Vicky and Kade learn more about each other. In the six weeks together in rehab they had fun and they have their tender moments too with him always reminding her that they are just roomies with benefits but is it really? When something happens to one of the characters at the last quarter of the story I felt like it was written as add-on angst but it’s not a bad thing if you like some drama in a book.  I rate this book 4 stars!
