BY LP LOVELL & STEVIE J. COLE
Jude and I managed to salvage something beautiful from the war
torn rubble of our lives, a blissful happiness that we paid for in
blood. We fought our way here, leaving pieces of ourselves along the
way. I thought this was the happily ever after in our twisted fairy
tale, but I was wrong.
I may be free by definition. That
freedom came at a heavy cost and my family is about to pay the price. At
any moment, this façade will come crashing down. Hard. The life I’ve
lived—that kind of world—it stains you, and no matter how hard you try,
you can never escape its wrath. Not even in death.
We’re walking a wire and all that’s beneath us is destruction.

“Jude is my twisted version of happily ever after, my bloodstained prince in a sea of violence and revenge.”
Wire is the third book in the ongoing saga of Jude and Tor and their exceptionally bloody lives. Except this time, Jude is the family man he never thought he’d become. But Jude is still the bookie. And where ever Jude lands, trouble is never far behind. The stakes are higher this time as he finds himself tangled up with the Russian mafia and a Mexican cartel. You think Jude would have learnt by now to choose his friends wisely, sadly no. For two years Jude and Tor have had a quiet life, a happy existence bringing up their daughter, the ever cute Cayla. The little slice of peace they have manged to carve is rattled with one sharp fence post through the chest of a cartel member and from then on in it’s a spiral into the chaotic mess that both are so very used to.
“Only fools completely give their trust to someone.”
Tor is a mother now and that makes the game very different. No longer is it a fight for herself, or for Jude, the fight is for the one thing she loves above all else. And this is the driving force that propels the story, for both. The unthinkable happens, the unshakable Tor and Jude are rocked to the core. What follows is the story of frantic parents desperately running out of time to bring each of them back together. The usual violence and death surrounds Jude as he struggles with which direction to turn.
I absolutely adored the first two books in this series and was extremely excited when I heard of a book three, there was always more to their story. But I wonder if the authors left it a little too long to come back to Jude and Tor? I didn’t feel the same intensity as I did with the first two books. Maybe because you have to calm the beast when they become a different person which is what Jude has ultimately become. He’s a family man, he’s softened – it makes him no less fierce, same as Tor. If anything her bite is worse and I was really happy to see the authors make sure Tor kept her streak of defiance and didn’t write her as a weak woman, something Tor has never been since the first few chapters of book 1. Yet I felt a disconnect, like maybe it had been too long.
On that note though I did thoroughly enjoy reading, the authors did their usual; dragging the reader from start to finish on a thrill ride, surprises around every corner. The humdinger of a cliffy is something else, I think it was probably the best bit of the book, I just love endings like that, it was written beautifully. I got the emotion for the most part – the desperation, the fear, the love. Coupled with violence and steamy scenes you really can’t go wrong with this book. These authors co-write exquisitely and fit together well, bringing the reader into the fold easily and giving an explosive few hours to get lost in.
Recommended reading for sure, especially if you have read the first two. There’s a lot more coming, I’m eager for the fourth book.
