“Are you saying it was my fault?” This corner was a bad idea, because now he’s pressed against me, his tall body encompassing the small space.
His dark eyes bore into mine. “Yes,” he says, matter of factly.
He’s refusing to whisper. What part of library does he not understand?
“Shhh.” I peek around him and the aisle is still clear.
His arms cage me in, and he eliminates every inch of space between us. “Do not shush me again, Miss Murphy,” he dips his face down, close to mine, “unless you want a repeat of earlier.”
Well, I do want a repeat, but it’s probably a very bad idea.
He leans close to my ear, brushing the hair away with his nose. “You want me to whisper, Miss Murphy? How’s this?”
Goosebumps break out along my skin from the sensuous feel of his lips against the shell of my ear. This is so bad. So bad. Anyone could come around this corner and find us. And how did we get to this point? My fingers grip the edge of his pockets when he whispers again, “Do it once more and you’ll feel the sting of my hand on your ass, again.”
A soft “shhh” escapes me before I can stop it.
His teeth clamp down on my earlobe. “Fuck,” he whispers in my ear. “You probably shouldn’t have done that.”

This is a forbidden romance about Marley Murphy and her professor Houston Dale. We met Marley briefly in Date Me and I knew from the offset she was a character I was going to like. Living away from her family is a big thing for Marley in a strange city where she is studying as a med student. She’s focused, intelligent and working for her one goal until she meets her professor. Houston Dale comes across as a moody, arrogant type of guy who gave me the impression he was a tad disinterested in teaching the students.
Marley is drawn to Houston and even though he’s quite nonchalant, there’s no getting away from the fact that he’s extremely hot. I wasn’t in the least surprised this caused her to fantasize about him night and day. Indeed, seeing as he’s mysteriously drop-dead gorgeous, I couldn’t help but be consumed by him, too! Marley catches his attention, he tries to stamp out his impure thoughts of her, but here I had to smile. She’s definitely a tease; a very forbidden one as she’s his assistant and student.
“Miss Murphy, you should pay closer attention to where you’re going.”
“Professor Dale I’m so sorry.”
This story was pretty intense and the chemistry and passion between the two was really steamy. I had a feeling there was a hidden secret about Houston, and all I yearned for was an explanation regarding his behaviour. It was like a cat and mouse game making me think will or won’t they, should or shouldn’t they. It gave a rollercoaster sense to the book bordering on anxiety of where this forbidden love would end.
“Whatever little image of happily ever after you’ve envisioned in your head is not part of my plans.”
The authors workings in the past have been amusing, steamy and mixed with a lot of fun. Whilst this is the case in this novella, it touched on something that was so emotionally charged and filled me with great sadness to the point where I had to put the book down. Thanks to my curious mind, I went back into it because I had to know how it would end. Despite being a short read, it’s well written with plenty of content to make you feel every emotion. And I hope future readers will fall in love with the characters as much as I did.
“I’m ready to tell you.”
