Cora Matthews grew up with the Adams boys, twin brothers and best friends who wouldn’t let anything come between them except for one thing—her. One of them became her best friend, the other, her fiancé.

She always knew she’d wind up marrying one of them, and Jacob Adams is the very epitome of Mister Right. At least he is up until he fails to show up for their wedding day. Not that Cora realizes it. At first.

As Jacob’s best man, and identical twin, Matt makes a split second decision, but one that will affect the three of their lives forever—he steps in to take his brother’s place. In front of the altar, exchanging vows with the woman he’s secretly been in love with for years.

Cora eventually finds out about the groom swap. The morning after the wedding. As if realizing she just slept with her fiance’s brother wasn’t disturbing enough, she’s forced to confront her feelings for Matt Adams she thought she’d buried years ago.

Matt’s wrong for her. In every way. But through the course of her real honeymoon with her fake husband, she starts to uncover truths both Adams brothers were hoping to keep hidden, for opposite reasons. One to protect himself, the other to protect her.

She married the wrong brother, but what if he’s been the right one all along?

Goodness me! There’s never a dull moment in this standalone! What grabbed me from the first instance was how I was led to believe complications would get better, not worse! Ms Williams has been very adventurous, very brave and I can’t say I’ll be in the least surprised if a few feathers are ruffled. Mine most definitely weren’t in this love triangle with a difference! The storyline is as such that I was not only beguiled by it, but I also couldn’t wait to see how the leading male protagonist would deal with his hmm… wrong doings. Now I’m not being exactly fair to him because his intentions are honest until everything goes haywire. Make sure you’re free from interruptions because if the same thing which happened to me, happens to you, you won’t be able to put this book down.

“My best intentions went a little—a lot—off course.”

From the word go, the pace is really fast and if in one scenario my heart was racing nine to the dozen, in others to come I was being thrown into an emotional turmoil. I screamed out loud at Cora’s positive reaction at the beginning of the story and couldn’t help but wonder whether she’d tried hard enough to decipher her niggling doubts about her future with the man she loved. But then again, the author cleverly painted a picture on par with a Shakespearean tragedy! Although Cora drove me around the bend many a time with her dilly-dallying, I really took to her. The two men in her life she knows well. Knows they’re like chalk and cheese, yet I still thought she’d made the wrong choice. Ah, did one of the brothers make the wrong choice, too? Unless you pick the book up, you won’t find out how numerous happenings influence future decisions.

“Looking back, I know I made the wrong choice,”

Matt is gorgeous. He’s the boy next door and far too good for his own good. On the other hand, his twin brother, Jacob, is too smart and thinks he can pull the wool over everyone’s eyes. He’s been getting away with his shenanigans since a youngster until a spanner is thrown into the works and for once, things don’t work out the way he expected. Ooh boy, did this guy rattle my cage! Here I have to mention the author’s character development which is second to none. Matt and Jacob might be twins but they are not at all alike. Matt is a do-gooder and puts others before himself regardless of his feelings. And he’s been doing just that for years! Jacob’s obnoxious, crude and thinks of no-one except himself.

“I am completely unperfect.”
“I’m not used to you not taking a compliment and being so modest. That’s more your brother’s style.”

What really got my back up was none of them came clean. Just when I thought they were going to spill the beans, bam… something cropped up. It didn’t matter how I looked at it; they’d either been lying to themselves or lying to one another and lacked the courage to at least try and make it right. The author has drawn the plot out in such a way the reader doesn’t have a clue what the outcome’s going to be till nearly the ending, and I have to say this detail was excellently done. She gave me every reason to read the book from the first page to last without stopping.

“You can’t make an idiot out of someone when they’re already on. And that’s been my birthright from the very start. Sorry.”

The underlying cause for the two leading characters’ repressed feelings is saddening. My only wish was for them was to have a happy ending as they both deserved it after so much confusion and suffering. Narrated from both their points of view in past tense, it’s hotter than hot and intensely impassioned. Saying that, Maggie’s humour lightened up the conflict between two people who needed her guidance. She’d been standing on the sidelines for too long and decides to takes things into her own hands. I’m convinced her no-nonsense approach when giving advice saved the day.

“Maggie. . .”
“Don’t lie to me. You can lie to her. Your brother. Yourself. But you better not even think about lying to me, because I will call you out so fast your head will spin.”

The author’s stellar-writing-style is emotionally charged and regardless of the complexity of the topic, nothing less than engrossing. And although I didn’t miss the prologue, I truly would have liked an epilogue which for me, would have rounded up their story to perfection. Nevertheless, I’m so glad I read this book and wouldn’t think twice about recommending it. Bravo Ms Williams!

“So?” I crossed my arms and leaned into the banister behind me. “Did you? Like my brother?”
She sighed, turning toward the open door. “Jacob . . .”
“What? It’s a fair question.” I shoved off the banister, feeling hope and heat tangling in my veins from the look on her face, from the sound of her voice. She’d felt something for me, whether it be the most passing of crushes or something much deeper. Realizing that had me feeling drunk from something other than alcohol. “Besides, you’re stuck with me now. Won’t matter what you ’fess up to.”
Cora started through the doorway. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
Grabbing the suitcases, I followed her. I wasn’t letting this go. Never. Not if she threatened death or castration or anything else. “Why not?”
She broke to a sudden stop a few feet inside the room. “Because I don’t want to focus on the past. I want to concentrate on the future. That’s not going to work if you keep asking me questions about Matt.”
There was a sharpness in her voice—one she didn’t use too often. She didn’t want to keep talking about me, which only made me want to continue talking about me. I’d struck a nerve, but I wasn’t sure how deep that nerve went.
I needed to know how deep it went. I had to know. My whole life, I’d been under the impression that Cora saw me as nothing more than a good friend and substitute brother. She cared for me, but not in the same way I cared for her.
Or did she?
“This thing with Matt . . .”
Her back stiffened.
“Was it a thing? Like ancient history? Or is it still a thing?” I closed the door and wondered why I could feel my heartbeat in my eardrums.
She kept her back to me, standing in the middle of the dark room like a lone ship on a vast ocean. “I married you.”
Yeah, she did marry me.
“But if he’d made a play for you, way back before all of this”—I waved my finger between the two of us, not that she could see it—“would you have given him a chance?”
“He never made a play for me.” Her voice sounded faraway, like she was out of reach when she was less than an arm’s length away.
“That doesn’t answer my question.” I stepped closer. “If he had? Would you have?”
Her back was moving faster from her quickened breathing. This conversation was making her uncomfortable. Why was that?
“Stop, Jacob. Enough.” She spun on me, swaying in place just enough that I reached out to steady her. She shook my hand away like it was white-hot. “I’m not going to get into another fight with you over Matt. I’m done. I picked you. I married you. What else do I have to prove?”
“That you don’t—”
“I don’t love Matt!” Her arms flung out at her sides as her voice spilled across the room. ‘There. I said it. Are you happy now? Are you happy we’ve managed to get into another argument over this infatuation you’re convinced I have for your brother? On our wedding night of all times?” She glared at me with bleary eyes. I couldn’t tell if that was from tears or from alcohol. Maybe both.
“Cora, I’m sorry.” I ran my hands through my hair, wondering what in the hell I was doing—for the millionth time that day. Deceiving her, betraying her, and now accusing and angering her. Maybe I didn’t know the first fucking thing about love. Maybe Jacob knew more about it than I did, because I wasn’t sure love was supposed to hurt as badly as this did.
“Just . . . enough already.” As she shouldered past me, I reached for her, but she shook me off. “I need to be alone.”
She slammed the front door behind her a moment later, leaving me alone with my idiocy.
“Cora,” I called to an empty room. I wasn’t thinking when I rushed toward the door after her. “Cora!”
The moment I pulled the door open, something crashed into me. It made a sharp breath rush out of my mouth as I staggered back a few steps.
My arms barely had time to wrap around her before Cora’s mouth was on mine, moving in such a way that made staying upright next to impossible. Before I had a chance to catch up to the fact that I was kissing Cora in an entirely different way than we’d kissed at the wedding and reception, her fingers were working at my belt. Quickly.
I didn’t know she’d already gotten it undone before she’d moved on to my zipper. The sounds she was making as she kissed me, the way her body felt aligned against mine, the way her mouth knew the intricate balance of submission and domination . . . one moment at a time, Cora was crushing the last remnants of my resolve. Destroying the final pieces of my views of right and wrong.

Starting this review was not an easy feat as I was simply left with my head in my hands! Few books have made me feel this way… but then again, Regnery’s writing is a force to be reckoned with. She pushes, pulls and arouses so many contrasting feelings in the reader that coming out unscathed is nigh on impossible! Narrated in past tense third person, she cannily gave me a sense of false security. I truly felt she’d snuggled me up in a quilt of warmth at the beginning of the story, and then… And then I was only to be showered with what seemed to be love’s cold deception. This is an extremely challenging read. The gradual build-up in the two protagonists’ story is told in such a way I hung on to every word and never wanted this fairytale based on The Little Mermaid to end.

When Erik Rexford and Laire Cornish’s relationship began to flower, the first thing that came to mind was how on earth were these two youngsters with such different backgrounds going to be able to have a future together. Between them, their tower of strength to ride a storm on disproportionate levels never appeared to waver. I yearned for them to conquer it. I wholly trusted a happy ever after. Ah, but that very ride they’d both willing chosen to take took me on a trip overflowing with conflicts intricately woven into the plot! Unravelling their conundrum seemed to be an impossibility, kept me on tenterhooks and at times, my own sufferance was unbearably difficult to deal with. Re: my hubby who heard me sobbing at ridiculous o’clock reminded me that day was breaking and woke me up to reality. Why then, was I in such an emotional mess? Why then, couldn’t I put this book down? I ached for Erik and Laire’s caresses, their stolen kisses and glimpses of adoration. I saw them through their eyes and lived their devotion. Thus said, when that ominous black cloud niggling me culminated, not only did it work well in the read, it destroyed me in the process. Yep, there’s a twist in their story which isn’t too difficult to fathom out; but nevertheless, it’s still heart-breaking.

“And what exactly are you thinkin’, darlin’?”
“How much I want to kiss you again.”

Erik’s dismayed his future has been mapped out for him, Laire’s sheltered upbringing doesn’t allow her any freedom. These two facts have indescribable consequences. Hence, her lack of worldly experience which couldn’t have been more becoming, and his indisputable social status are catastrophically thrown off course by… As much as I’d love to say by whom, I can’t. Rules are rules! Accepting and abiding by them wasn’t questionable; nonetheless, new ones were made. Me thinking they’d sorted everything out to the best of their abilities couldn’t have been further from the truth.

“Our rules, Laire.”
“Our rules, Erik.”

Laire’s innocence sold me from the first moment I met her. I love a heroine who has faith in herself and this gal didn’t let me down at all. Her ambition is for a better life; she’s very good at what she does, and believing in herself to carry out her dream, steadfast. She loves her family but knows there’s so much more to discover outside of her remote surroundings. She wants to fly, to live every experience life has to offer. And never could she have imagined her knight in shining armour would be so close to home but so far away.

“Because you have dreams for your life, and you want to make them come true first, before you settle down right?”
“Plans, more like. There are lots of plans for me.”
“That’s how I feel too!”

Erik is a storm. Erik is perfect. Erik is wise beyond his years and loves to such a degree, my very soul hurt. But when lies dominate secrets, he loses himself. He broke my heart into tiny little shards and not because of his own doing. (Have a man-sized handkerchief at hand ‘cause you’re going to need it!) In spite of Laire not having all the luxuries he had and being in a far worse position than him, her grief was far easier for me to bear.

“Because I’m not a goddamn idiot. Because those people ain’t our people. They don’t live their lives the same way we do, Laire. They got different values, different priorities. You know that. You can expect nothin’.

Apart from such a moving story, the pace has to be mentioned. It’s not too fast, not too slow and drew this reader in with such an ease that every nuance of a word was taken seriously. I really couldn’t get over how well the author managed to pull off the antiquated island brogue. It was so easily pronounced leaving me once again, in awe of the author’s magnificent writing skills. The secondary character development is unarguably good regardless of my feelings for them. Yes, the mere fact that Laire and Erik try to follow family values cause moral dilemmas and is constantly put into question. What more can I say except this second chance full-length novel is a must read! BRAVO Ms Regnery!

About the Author

I live in Alberta, Canada, where the weather is forever changing (without warning). I married the man of my dreams on August 15, 2015. He is my high school sweetheart and love of my life. There are no children in my life as of right now, but we do have a handful of rambunctious cats (five) and a testy, rescued Shepard/Husky, who take up a lot of my time.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve adored the written word. English was always my favorite class and that may be biased because I can’t count to save my life, so math was a horror! I remember the very first novel I ever read, Shocking Pink by Erica Spindler. It was the most interesting of the covers on my mom’s bookshelf (probably because it was pink) and I was way too young to be reading that novel. But I fell in love. From there, I read almost everything from V.C. Andrews.

My writing started out as poetry, which then evolved to songs, and later into novels. I was never one for the short stories as I found it too difficult to pack everything I imagined into something so small. I write both novels for young adults and novels for adults – all romance. I adore dabbling in different genres and can’t wait to grow more in my writing!

Despite my favourite younger reading material, I now adore writing and reading all things romance.

For Vicente Bernal, truth is all he’s known. The son of an infamous drug lord, Vicente was born to help run the family business, which means he’s been raised on a throne of sordid pasts and dirty laundry, violence and pride. Firstly, I have to mention the cover. Those eyes, that nonchalant look about him, the way he holds his cigarette between his lips. I’d write a review about the cover if that were ever possible! And then I met him. Whatever I happened to be doing, I couldn’t seem to shake off his image or persona since Vicente Bernal literally got under my skin. I wasn’t able to read the book in one sitting; nevertheless, it wasn’t for the want of trying. The author’s descriptive skills are quite incredible. This story is a tad darker than what she’s published thus far, and even though the intimate scenes are more sexually charged than usual, believe me. . . my observation is graphically understated, discovering how the two protagonists tick was so much more stimulating! The mere fact that their cultures are completely different made me wonder whether they’d be hindered by internal influences.

Violet McQueen is a good girl. Loving parents, she’s never wanted for anything. I was smitten with her curiosity which gets the better of her when she comes across something that wasn’t for her eyes. Her discovery doesn’t make sense but without realising it, she opens up a can of worms. Up until now, life’s been kind to her, even a tad boring for her liking. From here on in, her story speeds up at an unimaginable velocity. I don’t believe in coincidences and thankfully there weren’t any in this story. However, unbeknown to her, her family are in the eye of the ever-intriguing Vicente for reasons only he can explain. Who his victim will be is for you to find out too; and surprise, surprise. . . it wasn’t who I thought it would be! And why he’s on a path of vengeance has its own twists that just might bite him back. Very, but very well done on the author’s part here. The saying, “Be careful what you wish for,” couldn’t be more apt.

Vicente. What on earth can I say about this young man who is too drop-dead gorgeous, far too facetious and too downright menacing! I truly didn’t like him. Okay; I did say he got under my skin, but his intentions worried me no end. He also comes across past secrets which were well and truly buried, but that doesn’t stop him walking into the lion’s den like he owns it. And a beautiful young woman will become his prey to avenge on. Or maybe not! He’ll worm himself into her life without compunction, and I bloody well screamed out aloud! Love, hate and deception lie heavily in both Vicente and Violet’s families. I kicked myself for believing he wouldn’t go out of his way to ruin her. That being said, Violet surprised me no end. My mistake in thinking some really heated moments would get the better of her were groundless because she has enough strength of character to tackle almost any difficult situation.

Vicente’s father, Javier, wheeler-dealer in a very resourceful black market, voices his feelings to himself giving the reader a very good idea what he expects of his son. He’s given Javier one long rope but one thing is for sure—the proverb, ‘like father, like son’ which is his wish and demand, has its own twists… Love changes people. Whether they like it or not, Violet and Vicente have to face past happenings not of their making.

Ms Halle’s plot structure is really well done. Overflowing with angst and deceitful scenarios, passionately hot scenes made my toes curl. The transparency of facts were given on all levels except one that niggled me no end. I felt a tad let down by Violet’s parents’ evasiveness regarding certain truths. Their reaction towards their daughter’s questionings not only confused me, but also seemed to throw the very essence of their backstory off balance. What I thought should have been said earlier on in the story to give the reader more emotional stability was for me, dragged out. Nonetheless, the secondary character development is top-notch and what’s in store for all will hopefully be revealed with more twists than turns in the follow up which I can’t wait for. Bravo!

About the Author:

katy-nNew York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Regnery started her writing career by enrolling in a short story class in January 2012. One year later, she signed her first contract and Katy’s first novel was published in September 2013.

Twenty-five books later, Katy claims authorship of the multi-titled, New York Times and USA Today Blueberry Lane Series, which follows the English, Winslow, Rousseau, Story, and Ambler families of Philadelphia; the six-book, bestselling ~a modern fairytale~ series; and several other standalone novels and novellas.

Katy’s first modern fairytale romance, The Vixen and the Vet, was nominated for a RITA® in 2015 and won the 2015 Kindle Book Award for romance. Katy’s boxed set, The English Brothers Boxed Set, Books #1–4, hit the USA Today bestseller list in 2015, and her Christmas story, Marrying Mr. English, appeared on the list a week later. In May 2016, Katy’s Blueberry Lane collection, The Winslow Brothers Boxed Set, Books #1-4, became a New York Times E-book bestseller.

In 2016, Katy signed a print-only agreement with Spencerhill Press. As a result, her Blueberry Lane paperback books will now be distributed to brick and mortar bookstores all over the United States.

Katy lives in the relative wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut, where her writing room looks out at the woods, and her husband, two young children, two dogs, and one Blue Tonkinese kitten create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories begin at home.

Blurb:

I met Bianca in an elevator.

She was on her way to interview me when we got stuck.

The beautiful, raven-haired reporter assumed I was a delivery guy because of the way I was dressed.

She had no clue I was really Dex Truitt, the wealthy, successful businessman she’d dubbed “Mister Moneybags”—her afternoon appointment.

Bianca told me how much she hated Dex’s type—snobby, over educated, silver- spooned men who didn’t appreciate the simple things in life.

So, after the elevator finally started moving again, I cancelled the interview and let her believe I was someone I wasn’t—a bike messenger named Jay. I loved the way she looked at the fake me and didn’t want it to end.

I began dating her as “Jay”—all the while letting her interview the real me over email.

I didn’t expect that our chemistry online would be just as hot.

I didn’t expect the mess I’d gotten myself into.

I didn’t expect that Jay and Dex would fall in love with her.

And she was falling for two men.

Only, both men were me.

And when she found out, we were both going to lose her.

Nothing could have prepared me for that day. And I certainly wasn’t prepared for what came after.

All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.
