The night I met Drew Jagger, he’d just broken into my new Park Avenue office.
I dialed 9-1-1 before proceeding to attack him with my fancy new Krav Maga skills.
He quickly restrained me, then chuckled, finding my attempted assault amusing.
Of course, my intruder had to be arrogant.
Only, turned out, he wasn’t an intruder at all.
Drew was the rightful occupant of my new office. He’d been on vacation while his posh space was renovated.
Which was how a scammer got away with leasing me office space that wasn’t really available for rent.
I was swindled out of ten grand.
The next day, after hours at the police station, Drew took pity on me and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. In exchange for answering his phones while his secretary was out, he’d let me stay until I found a new place.
I probably should have acted grateful and kept my mouth shut when I overheard the advice he was spewing to his clients. But I couldn’t help giving him a piece of my mind.
I never expected my body to react every time we argued. Especially when that was all we seemed to be able to do.
The two of us were complete opposites. Drew was a bitter, angry, gorgeous-as-all-hell, destroyer of relationships. And my job was to help people save their marriages.
The only thing the two of us had in common was the space we were sharing.
And an attraction that was getting harder to deny by the day.

We’re not so sure the title of this book was fitting for such a gorgeous character. Okay! He is a tad egocentric; and albeit trying not to bestow our affections on him, we simply couldn’t help ourselves! And the genre is a tad misleading, too. “Why?” you may ask. Well, if this is contemporary romance, keep ‘em rolling Ms Keeland ‘cause Drew and Emerie had us in fits of laughter and wanting more from where this came from! The author has cannily made this read a refreshingly original one by weaving angsty scenes and steaminess into just the right places. Agonizing over how her protagonists’ story would pan out gave us no option but to read it in less than a day! Not only were we teased beyond our expectations, our remarks between flipping pages were nothing less than hilarious… Some of them being on the verge of naughtiness, other reflections had us in a real mess making it difficult for us to come up for air!
“You really are a giant egomaniac.”
“So I’ve been told.”
Divorce lawyer, Drew Jagger, is without a doubt, swooning and jaw-aching material. Yes, the book cover is most certainly him! His persona is quite deceiving and not at all what we expected since he goes about disguising his innermost feelings with a cocktail of humour, bitterness and being an A One pain in the backside was right up our alley. Pun unintended, of course! Only when his story began to unravel did we truly understand why having a serious relationship was absent from his personal agenda. He’s in for the surprise of his life though. That surprise just happens to be a tenant who’s ignorant to the fact that she’s been taken for a ride and trespassing.
“I thought I was getting a deal.”
“You got a deal alright. A raw deal.”
The shock Emerie had couldn’t have been more embarrassing. We felt for her through and through and quite honestly, the whole situation made us wince. Mind you, her personality is as such that she’s not prepared to waste time drowning in her sorrows and takes the bull by the horns. She’s chasing her dream in the Big Apple for a reason to be divulged, and no-one or nothing like this setback she’s in is going to put a damper on her plans. Funnily enough, her profession is the opposite to Drew’s which much to our delight, causes a battle of wits that had us cheering on one or telling off the other. Choosy regarding the clientele he defends is motivated by distrust, whereas Emerie’s all out to help whoever needs it. This gal gives as good as she gets and isn’t afraid of speaking up. And Drew! He’s kind of likes her attitude but would never even dream of admitting it.
“You’re an idealist. I’m a realist.”
Past happenings were snapping at our heels. The backlash was like watching a domino effect with no point of return for someone who never deserved to be treated as they were. It was frightening to see how opportunists will go to such lengths to make others suffer for their own benefit and with no compunction. We were flabbergasted, our hearts broke and when we thought it couldn’t have got any worse… just read the book. Find out for yourselves why we’re recommending it so highly.
“In every relationship, one person ends up screwing the other at some point. Unless you keep it just to screwing. Then there are no false expectations.”
The author’s writing is utterly awe-inspiring and thought-provoking. Her banter development is exquisitely defined — her characters be them good, we fell for hard, the bad, we loved to hate. And more important, an unforgettable story of overcoming life’s obstacles and achieving life’s goals was a lesson in itself. To say bravo seems too small a compliment. BRAVISSIMO!
