SYNOPSIS

From the New York Times bestselling authors of Stuck-Up Suit and Cocky Bastard, comes a sexy new standalone novel.

Money or love? Which would you choose?

You probably just answered the question in your head thinking it’s an easy decision.

For me, it’s not. Did I mention it’s a lot of money? A hell of a lot.

I needed to go far away to think it through.

As I embarked on an impulsive trip, I hit a detour when I met sexy Carter in the airport lounge. We struck up a heated conversation.

Then, he left.

I thought I’d never see him again.

But fate had other plans.

Surprise! He was the pilot of my flight.

The bigger surprise was the adventure that followed after the plane landed.

Carter was dangerous and always on the move.

Even though our connection was magnetic, I knew it was only temporary.

He would give me tickets, and I would follow him around the world to exotic places.

A bevy of flight attendant exes and rumors about Carter’s reputation were never far behind.

I didn’t know what to believe.

But I was addicted. Nothing else mattered anymore. And I was going to get hurt. Because a part of me wanted to be the one to finally ground the playboy pilot.

At the very least, he was taking me on a thrilling ride.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

KINDLE FRIENDS FOREVER: Reviewed by Rachel & Sharon Thérèse

Contemporary romance is simply these two authors’ thing! Hot alpha males you swoon over; heroines you’d gladly strangle or fall hard for and strong storylines with touches of humour in just the right places. After co-writing two books together, they became a partnership to be reckoned with. The title and gorgeous cover of their third book provoked a million and one dirty thoughts in us. . . oops, we’re a tad dirty-minded! And our excitement to read this new offering had us diving in as soon as Playboy Pilot landed on our Kindles. So why were we taken aback by this story? Well, investing in the heroine wasn’t going to be easy-peasy. Actually, she managed to throw us out of orbit.

“What’s this pin? Were you a good little boy on your flight or something?”

There is so much more behind the scenes and so much more behind Carter and Kendall. Getting to know how both of them ticked was an unexpected challenge. They have their hang-ups, have history and aren’t willing to give all and tell all at the drop of a hat. It takes a long while after a crazy pick up to even begin to fathom what they both want. And believe us, they do crazy to perfection. In fact, we found some of the scenarios verging on the absurd! The lack of prologue has to be mentioned at this point. One of us wasn’t keen on how the authors chose not to include one. The other didn’t have any problems since to her, it was clear from the very beginning of chapter one that the game was on. You’ll have to make your own minds up as to whether or not the book was missing one.

“You’re a sideliner.”

“Elaborate.”

“You sit on the sidelines and watch your life happen. If you don’t play in the game, you can’t get hurt. Spectators are safe.”

Carter considers himself to be a lucky man. He loves his job, he’s drop-dead gorgeous, wears a uniform like it’s his second skin and charms the pants off his female colleagues without ado. Indeed, the girls virtually raffle for his affections causing much discussion and quite a bit of bitchiness. We couldn’t help not connect to Carter for one or three reasons! His way of looking at lifea lovely habit while lifting off makes his passengers smile but has an unknown and profound meaning behind it, his professionalism, and then discovering just how caring he is towards folk dear to him.

“Come fly with me beautiful.”

Kendall’s problem is an unusual one to say the least and time’s running out. She thinks she has it all under control and despite noticing a hesitancy on her part, she still managed to rub us up the wrong way. Since birth, the world had been at her feet. She’s never wanted for anything and did tend to come across to us as the spoilt heiress with a silver lining at her fingertips. So what the heck is she doing gallivanting around the world on spur of the moment? Besides needing a distraction from her what could be a life-changing decision, Carter’s proposition tickled her fancy. Even though she has a damn good idea he lives up to his reputation as a ladies’ man; yeah, he made it quite clear that in this department he’s more than served, his charming behaviour is convincing. So off she trots!

“Can I see the cockpit?”

“There’s nothing more that I would rather do than show you my cockpit. I thought you’d never ask.”

Their relationship is by no means insta-love which we’re eternally grateful to the authors for. The protagonists’ cautiousness when complications set-in was a very welcome and realistic factor, the steaminess sizzling of the pages from word go, off the charts. Plain sailing for Carter and Kendall, it is not. Humph. . . Kendall’s mother is a real stick in the mud, not a good influence and such a selfish and obnoxious person that we were glad how things eventually worked out as they did for her.

“Kendall, will you look at yourself for a moment? Think about how crazy this sounds from the outside looking in.”

We take our hats off to Penelope and Vi for doing an about-turn in the plot regarding trust issues. How they were dealt was what we liked more in the story. That being said, how it ended seemed a little peculiar considering what Carter and Kendall had been through. The writing is as per usual; excellent, the editing impeccable and laugh out loud moments abound. The reason we awarded three stars is because some of the scenarios we simply couldn’t get our heads around. However, this doesn’t mean that the reader will have the same problem.

“Perky?”
“Yes”
“Oh my God. I thought I was dreaming.”
“You’re not.”
