These Royals will ruin you…

From wharf fights and school brawls to crumbling lives inside glittery mansions, one guy tries to save himself.

Reed Royal has it all—looks, status, money. The girls at his elite prep school line up to date him, the guys want to be him, but Reed never gave a damn about anyone but his family until Ella Harper walked into his life.

What started off as burning resentment and the need to make his father’s new ward suffer turned into something else entirely—keep Ella close. Keep Ella safe. But when one foolish mistake drives her out of Reed’s arms and brings chaos to the Royal household, Reed’s entire world begins to fall apart around him.

Ella doesn’t want him anymore. She says they’ll only destroy each other.

She might be right.

Secrets. Betrayal. Enemies. It’s like nothing Reed has ever dealt with before, and if he’s going to win back his princess, he’ll need to prove himself Royally worthy.

KFF’s  5 ★ Review by Rachel & Sharon Thérèse

If book one was a roller-coaster of a read, get ready for book two and hold on tight. While sharing notes, two of our thoughts were highlighted. Omnishambles and screwed up! We even wondered if the Royal family were going to be able to get a breather from events which took place in Paper Princess. And to be quite honest with you, Callum’s five sons whose traits left a lot to be desired, seemed to become more responsible—or perhaps that was a figment of our imagination! So how is it possible not to love them as much as we do regardless of their shenanigans? Easy-peasy! They’re all adorable, drop-dead gorgeous and to boot, them losing the plot a tad didn’t sway our opinion. Surprisingly, these lads who have raging hormones and everything they want on a silver plate, start making an effort to get their acts together. Hmm, what we mean to say is that we felt they weren’t on such a collision course as before. They pull together and to our delight their father, Callum, (we could eat him alive!), is not only aware of his sons and Ella’s problems, but also has something up his sleeve.

“I understand why you might’ve been embarrassed to come to me yourself,” “but I want you to know that you can always talk to me about anything.”

If you’ve read any of our reviews, you’ll know that our fave writing structure is in present tense and told from two points of view. In Paper Princess, we only had Ella’s; however, in this story which starts off exactly where the ginormous cliffy left us, we get a lot more of Reed and less of Ella. Albeit far from complaining since we really needed to hear his voice in the light of so many goings on, we would have liked a little bit more of the gal we’ve learnt to hold in such high esteem. Ooh boy, when she does have her say, it’s loud and clear.

“I fight back, remember? And I fight dirty. So go ahead, come at me. Let’s see what happens.”
“I’m shaking in my boots,”
“You should be.”

Back to the ending of the previous book; talk about being left hanging on tenterhooks and anxious to get our hands on this one isn’t in it. No doubt you shouted out loud like us, although that was nothing, absolutely nothing compared to what lies in store! Now totally invested in the Royal’s, some of their decisions including Ella’s, weren’t always to our liking and had us hoping things would get better. Wishful thinking on our part! The build-up is brilliant, misleading, angst-ridden and spanners thrown into the works from all angles make for an unputdownable read. Never in a million years where we prepared for what was on the horizon. Gosh! Our brains were frizzled.

“I know you still care or you wouldn’t be giving me the silent treatment.”

The brothers’ attitude towards Ella has changed. No longer their enemy, they go out of their way to protect her. But she’s used to defending for herself, wants to untangle a puzzle that doesn’t add up, try and get on with her life without all the drama surrounding her. Easier said than done though. You name it, this novel has it! Blackmail, deceit, scenes that’ll titillate your imagination, moments when we would have gladly bashed our heads against a brick wall in frustration.

“You should write a book about all your experience. It’ll be a real feminist empowerment story. Fifty Shades of Banging: The High School Years.”

We can’t finish this review without mentioning Reed. Putting into words how we feel about him should be a piece of cake. Nevertheless, it’s not. Loyal, drooling hot and scrumptious, we forgave him his faults considering how old he is. He’s got a lot to say, a lot to put right and has a hell of a lot of explaining to do. Actually, he came over on a much more positive note this time around. The big question is how he’s going to deal with new revelations. What we loved was his father’s comeback. Who we hated was the woman in his life. Argh, wait and see. She’ll shock the socks off you with her bitchiness and conniving ways!

“I haven’t even looked at a single other girl since I met you, Ella.”
“Good. And if you treat me like the goddess I am and don’t cheat on me, then yes, I’m cool with this.”

As per usual, the character development is excellent; the editing impeccable, and the banter. . . simply perfect. Ten out of ten for an incredibly well-thought-out storyline, too. Elle and Jen, you naughty ladies, you! You have given us no respite, no time to come up for air and virtually caused us to have heart palpitations and a rise in our blood pressure. Wow! One would even go to the extremes of adding a health warning. Why? Well, after reading the second instalment, you’ll understand us. All we can say is thank goodness time flies and October isn’t too far away. BRAVO!

“I think you were my mirror. I looked at you and how strong you were and I realized I didn’t have one ounce of steel in me.”
