Kindle Friends Forever 4 ★ Review by Sharon Thérèse

Having only read this author’s MC series which I loved to bits, I can honestly say that the subject she chose to write about in this standalone surprised me no end. Storyteller par excellence; she has a way with words in a plot where banter overflows and is nothing less than intriguing. It is complicated and different from what I am used to reading; however, what really swayed me was how such a delicate issue was handled. Told from both protagonists’ point of view in present tense is indeed, my preference.

Stubborn and as sassy as hell, I laughed out loud at Callie St. James sharp comebacks. No holds barred regarding her dirty talk, either. She’s got a problem and is prepared to go to anything lengths to solve it. Little does she realise the solution has been staring her in the face for a while. And much to her best friend’s bewilderment, when the tough gets going, Callie’s principles kick in. Her generous heart selflessly takes precedence over her strong feelings for a guy who is too stroppy for his own good. She has to do the right thing. She has to be able to live with a clear conscience which I truly understood. And when I thought everything was cut and dry in the story, wham bam! She has to go out of the way to find the truth and by doing so, rocks the boat and not in her favour.

“Why did I have to find the one best friend who has the morals you do? Why couldn’t I have found a loose-lips bestie?”

Luke Hardy’s drop dead-gorgeous, tattooed and got a ripping physic but in all his glory, perplexed me. Cloaked in secrets, he has a problem. In fact, a ginormous one. Between a rock and a hard place, most of the time I my heart went out for this guy. Firstly, I couldn’t have met such an emotionally closed off person and felt that to really get to know him would be like cracking open a hard nut. Until hidden truths unravel and at a slow pace at that, and I have to confess that his indecisiveness and his lack of fighting spirit to support Callie’s instincts made me want to throw my Kindle at him.

“You think things are so black and white, Callie. They’re not.”

Nevertheless, after discovering the reasons for his behaviour towards her made me understand his secretiveness. Highly protective of his own he is though and that I had to respect. The palpating attraction between them sizzles off the pages so get your fans ready for some hotter than hot scenes which much to Luke’s frustration, isn’t as clear-cut as he would like it to be.

“Who knew bowling could be so dirty? It’s a shame you’ll have no one to take care of that for you. I’ll be sure to think of you when I come later tonight.”

This highly emotional story has more unexpected twists and turns than any good thriller but saying that, there were times when I felt a tad lost and needed certain details to pick up at a faster pace. Regardless of whether or not I liked all the characters, their traits were well-developed; I adored Callie and even though I had my doubts about how Luke dealt with certain issues, he managed to wiggle his way into my heart. The author’s writing is as always, strong, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this read. Bravo Nina!

“I think you’re going to become my drug of choice.”

Excerpt

Here’s a taste of Luke & Callie…

I stand and move to him. His back muscles tense when I place my hand on his shoulder. “I want to get to know everything about you, Luke Hardy,” I say and he spins around to face me.

His eyes search mine. “You already know the important bits.”

“No, I don’t.” I rest my hand against his chest. “I don’t know the secrets you keep locked in here. They’re the important bits.”

His intake of breath is sharp and he wraps his hand around mine. His other hand slides around my waist and he pulls me close.

Oh, shit.

No.

Too close.

But his lips brush across mine before I can move out of his embrace. His hold is tight and his message is very clear—he’s in charge here and if a kiss is what he wants, a kiss is what he will have.

He surprises me, though, and angles his face away from mine. Still keeping hold of me, he says, “I know we’re doing the friends-only thing for awhile, but a man’s got needs, Callie. If you put your hands on me, you better be prepared for the consequence of that.”

I’m pretty sure my eyes almost pop out of my head. I knew Luke was bossy—oh, boy did I know—but this is a whole new level of bossy. His deep voice vibrates along my skin, scattering goose bumps, while his eyes penetrate my soul. Those intense, green eyes of his will do it to me every time. They’ll cause me to forget everything I’ve ever said or thought and just cling to him for the ride.

He dips his face again and his mouth finds mine. The moment our lips connect sparks of desire burn through me. I’m so damn hot for him and I can’t control myself. I push my body hard against his and open my mouth to him.

He tastes like whiskey and I make a note to buy some just so I can remember this moment forever. I’ve never loved whiskey before, but it may just be my new favourite drink.

This kiss will forever live in my mind. Luke doesn’t simply kiss—he possesses. He takes me mind, body and soul.

In this kiss I find hope.

Hope that he will fight for me.

For the us we both want.
