THE BALLER SYNOPSIS LABEL1

The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men’s locker room.

It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster.

The famed quarterback decided to bare all.

And by all, I don’t mean he told me any of his secrets.

No.  The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question.  On camera.

The Super Bowl MVP quickly adopted a new hobby—screwing with me.

When I pushed back, he shifted from wanting to screw with me, to wanting to screw me.

But I don’t date players.

And it’s not because I’m one of the few women working in the world of professional football.

I’d date an athlete.

It’s the other kind of player I don’t date.

You know the type.  Good looking, strong, cocky, always looking to get laid.

Brody Easton was the ultimate player.

Every woman wanted to be the one to change him.

But the truth was, all he needed was a girl worth changing for.

Turned out, I was that girl.

Simple right?

Let’s face it.  It never is.

There’s a story between once upon a time and happily ever after…

And this one is ours.

KFF’s 5  Review by Sharon Thérèse Nuttall

For a reviewer, describing an author’s modus operandi used in a book overflowing with the unexpected, refreshing to the point in its perplexity only to be revealed with a style like no other, is a humbling experience. Therefore, my mild alternative to explain how I felt about this book was for me, a personal challenge. Sentences morph into prose, prose become poetry and I was ashamed to highlight and underline words and verses as I thought my vocabulary was up to par. Although this genre is not my preference, there is no doubt whatsoever that I was gripped from the first page. The lack of dialogue at the beginning of the read was not an issue either. The two protagonists voice their opinions in third person and more important, their doubts for the future is told in an unmeasurable timeline that makes for what I would consider, nothing less than a masterpiece. I have always valued a good book which offers creativity in a solid storyline and personality development. So while reading between the lines and trying to fathom out what could happen next to the major characters, not only resulted in me being left spellbound, but also left me in awe of the writer. When dialogue is introduced, putting this book down wasn’t an option. After mentioning the author’s style of writing to my sister-in arms, her reply didn’t surprise me. “He’s the best, no question!” How could I possibly argue with her!

I have always steered well clear of paranormal and much less anything to do with centuries old dark, blood fetish fiends. Neither have I watched films or series about them. After the author’s publisher kindly offered this book to me for reviewing, was when I realised that I had already one-clicked the book and the audible. There was a very good reason for doing this though. Gabriel’s Inferno series couldn’t have finished on a better note; why then, was I mildly surprised to meet up with the series’ characters who had had me so enthralled? Perhaps I should have realised that there would be a connection; however, as I went in blind and lost my mind in this one, I think I can be excused!

Italy. Florence to be exact. An enchanting city which I have visited, took on a new perspective. So much history abounding in artistic culture comes alive but in turn, becomes a battleground of sorts at the hands of two very special people. One is here; now, and staggered to see what upheaval she has unduly caused since her bountiful heart to help others has no limits of unselfishness. In spite of the fact that heroine is thrown into a complex scenario way out of her comfort zone and control, it was a joy to see her come to terms with her destiny. The other is fighting against complications reigning Florence’s intriguing underworld in all its incongruity. My sister-in-arms who has read this book and never let on the tiniest detail to me, laughed-out-aloud when I said to her that I had even been dreaming about the plot. Being introduced to the supernatural and used to reading a completely different kind of genre, was an overwhelming experience.

The Prince. I prefer to call him by his birth name, William York. Grandioso regardless of his lifeblood’s historical existence, wants vengeance. And his ire concerning the person whom has done the deadly deed is going to affect Raven’s stance. Nonetheless, this heartless soul (if he has one), actually starts to have feelings. Unfathomable for him, he gives his protection to Raven as the circumstances she’s in are to say the least, more surreal than reality and his doing at that. William is…indescribably threatening. I am still not sure whether I should have loved his persona for want of a better word, but I was literally taken with him. I adored how he gradually learns to trust the woman he is smitten with. When he reveals secrets weighing heavily upon him for the first time ever, I was daunted as this detail was so out of character.

I was captivated by Raven in an instant. A lover of fine arts, this young woman is extremely knowledgeable in her field of work. Her handicap is entwined with her own secrets, a past which shocks William. Her courage is her virtue; her heart is made of gold, her sexuality flowers and is second to none. What made her beautiful to my eyes was that she was ignorant to these facts. She is simply how she is and I couldn’t help but respect her for her traits.

If you are partial to twists and turns and the ins and outs in an ambience seeping with grandeur such as is Florence, this read is for you. Comparable with the best Renaissance Italian concertos, this read was music to my ears. The home of Sandro Botticelli’s Birth of Venice at the Uffizi gallery, the squares, streets and embolic architecture in a city bursting at the seams with cultural richness is vividly described. I could go on and on; I won’t! More often than not, cliff-hangers usually irritate me; therefore this is one of the few times that I was happy to have read this book just before the follow-up is to be published. I have great expectations for The Shadow. You, Sr. Reynard, I have on a literary pedestal. Bravo!

I had to make a really difficult decision as to whether or not add quotes this review, many of which left me breathless. However, wallowing in my quandary, common sense ruled. I want you to enjoy this book and make your own opinion. To say happy reading seems to me to be so underrated. It is not!

THE RAVEN AUTHOR LABEL

I’m interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition – particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I’m also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

I try to use my platform as an author to raise awareness about the following charities: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation, WorldVision, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and Covenant House. For more information, see my Charities page.

LOUD COVER

Note from the author

LOUD is a New Adult romance between two indie rock kids, set in the 90s New Brunswick music scene. It’s something I happen to know a lot about, though it’s not–I repeat–it’s not autobiographical.

* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *

SYNOPSIS

Twenty-one-year-old front girl Emmylou knows that getting her band noticed in the ‘90s indie rock scene will be no easy task. She definitely knows better than to break the number one rule of the band: Don’t sleep with your bandmates!  But after she ends up having the best sex of her life with her guitarist, Travis, she finds following that rule is a lot harder than it sounds.

When the band gets the gig of their dreams, making it big seems just within reach. But Emmy’s inability to keep her hands off Travis threatens everything they’ve worked for. Can Emmy find a way to break the rules and not blow the chance of a lifetime?

EXCERPT

I front Stars on the Floor. Locally our nickname is “Soft” because when Billy Broadband, the WRSU DJ (that’s Rutgers college radio, folks), was trying to say “SotF” on air it sounded like “Soft,” and whatever. Close enough. One thing Soft is known for is having its shit together. We’re also a good band, if you like our moody, dark, loud, guitar-driven brand of angst. We pack the local clubs on the weekends, we play Manhattan and Philadelphia on a regular basis, and we play our fair share of out-of-town shows, too. But there are plenty of bands around here doing as well as we are right now. We’re a regular headline at the Court Tavern because we’re not fuckups.

I may only be twenty-one, but that matters to me. There are exactly three female-fronted acts in this town right now out of three dozen bands who compete for headliner spots, and one thing you have to be when you’re a woman fighting for the headliner spot is not a fuckup. And I’m not. Or I wasn’t, anyway. Now that I’ve gone and done it with my own guitarist, I’m not even sure.

Of all the guys in this town I could potentially fuck, why do I pick Bean? (By the way, I am the only person on this earth allowed to call Travis that, and it’s after the Travis Bean guitar, which he doesn’t play because, hello, they’re rare and like two grand and he’s not made of money.) I don’t even know. I really shouldn’t have done it, because he’s my number one collaborator, my co-conspirator, and one of my best friends, and I’m so worried that fucking him is going to ruin everything we have between us.

I can understand how it happened, of course. First of all, he’s adorable—lean but not wispy, and he’s got excellent guitar-playing, amp-hauling arms that look spectacular in a black T-shirt. He’s tall and he’s paler than a Norwegian’s ass in winter, but I like that basement-dwelling vibe he’s got going on. He’s always wearing the same pair of untied Timberlands (a token of his Nebraska homeland) with his jeans sort of not fitting over the boots, sort of not tucked in, either. His hair is dirty blond and always in need of a cut, even right after he gets it cut, but it’s thick and wavy and falls into his eyes when he’s playing, and you have to wonder if he even sees all those girls who fantasize about trading places with his guitar when he’s running those skilled hands all over that Les Paul on stage. But he never misses a note.

I’d have to say of all the things there are to dig about Travis, his guitar playing is what did it for me. That’s why the beat brothers (that’s our drummer Joey and bassist Cole, who are not brothers but might as well be) and I picked him out of the seven guys we auditioned. He’s got a style all his own. Every review we ever get mentions his shredding, his insane use of the screeching end of the Marshall half stack. Honestly? He is so good I didn’t even want to audition him because I knew he’d be the one we picked and I knew sooner or later I was going to have an issue keeping my hands off him. Because Travis is very much my type: smart and confident, but not an egomaniac. He’s quiet in big groups and thoughtful in rehearsal, but one-to-one he loves to talk about things you had no idea he even knew about. Bird-watching. Vintage Land Rovers. Science fiction. And also music, of course. Any and all things related to music.

Damn. Well, anyway, we can’t fuck again. We are literally just one sold-out night at the Melody away from an opening spot for Ween at Rutgers’s Ag Field Day and we can’t fall apart now.

I’m sure Travis will agree with me.

KFF’s 5 ★ Review by Rachel McEwan

Five Loud Stars ★★★★★

**ARC given by publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review**

Loud is how I loved this read! This book was offered to me via NetGalley and as it was an author I hadn’t read before; I went straight onto Goodreads to investigate further. I must admit it was the title which caught my attention at first; so very different, it immediately opened my interest. The genre is also one of my favourites too, New Adult. So sold I was!

“Don’t fuck anyone in the band.”

When I first started reading this book, I was instantly captivated by the author’s style of writing! It’s incredibly witty, razor sharp and heavy on the sarcasm which is my kind of book. The quote above is the first line in the book, so I should’ve known from the beginning that I was in for one hell of a read!

“I’m the last guy you had sex with. So I guess I’m in competition with myself. Now I’m really worried.”

The story centres around a band, Stars on the Floor, which Emmylou and Travis are members of. The band is Emmylou’s world. It’s all she thinks about and all she wants to do with her life. The one thing she doesn’t want to do is upset the dynamic of the group which would in her opinion, kill the band! When a relationship develops between her and Travis, she immediately panics and this is where things take an interesting turn! But does the ‘relationship’ actually cause any issues in the band or is it actually Emmylou’s behaviour dealing with her feelings? Hmm, that would be telling! Let’s just say there were times when I could’ve gladly swung at her! On so many occasions she didn’t say the things she wanted to say which led to misunderstandings galore!

“Lie to my own mother? The woman who gave me life and ironed all my Levi’s all through high school? I don’t think so.”

Travis! I loved this guy. I loved how patient he was towards Emmylou. I really did feel for him at times, she really did put him through the wringer! He desperately wanted Emmylou, but also understood her reluctance of having a relationship with him. Travis loves the band but to him, it’s not the be all and end all. He appreciates how hard it is to make it big in the music industry which is feasibly realistic, but not Emmylou. It’s more than her world, it is everything!

“You’d better impress me.”
“It’ll be hard to live up to the Michael Bolton Fan Club president. But I’ll do what I can.”

The book is set back in the late 90’s in New Jersey, USA. I had to keep reminding myself on quite a few occasions that social media and mobile phones were uncommon; especially to young people in college. Good old fashioned telephones were the name of the game in this book which was endearing and took me back to when I was in my early 20’s. It was lovely to read how young people literally waited for that one phone in the house to ring. It added to the angst which was plentiful. One would come to the conclusion to expect this from reading about kids of a certain age; therefore I found it endearing and yes, admittedly it took me back to when I was at school! I also loved the Michael Bolton references. Oh my word, that really did take me back to the 90’s.

“They’ll hear me all the way across the river to New Brunswick. I’m too loud, I can’t help it.”
“Good. Loud is how I love you.”

The story is told entirely from Emmylou’s point of view which at first I thought I would struggle with. But fear not… the author conveyed her thoughts and feelings perfectly. And never once did I feel the story was lacking in any way. The passion was abundant in this story and even though it’s New Adult, the author certainly didn’t hold back when it came to the sex scenes!

‘’Oh man, was I really that loud?’’
‘’Sweetheart, I think there are paramedics still out there looking for the car accident.’’

When I started reading this book, I thought it was a standalone which it is per se. Notwithstanding, this is the first book in a series, so hopefully I will get to read the stories of some of the other characters you are introduced to in this book. Ms Brown, in my opinion, you have brought a fresh, original and animated book to the New Adult reading world and for that, I can only thank you! I understand this is also the authors début; all I can say is, WOW ! you have certainly impressed me with your literally skills! To say I loved this book would be an understatement. This was the first book I have read in 2016 so let’s just say the bar has been set high!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’m the author of LOUD IS HOW I LOVE YOU, a New Adult novel about two indie rock kids falling in love in the 90s. And doing it. A bunch of times. Since there’s some question or debate these days about whether sex is a requirement for a book to be considered NA, I’m just going to put that right out there. There’s sex in this book. That’s what makes it sexy! That and guitars. Guitars are always sexy. So are amps. And guys who carry amps for their girlfriends are extra sexy.

LOUD is based very (very, very) loosely on my experiences fronting bands in the 90s New Brunswick, NJ music scene. It’s not actually about me or my band, but let’s just say, if I hadn’t cut my teeth playing clubs from Baltimore to Boston in my youth, I don’t know that I could have written this book in quite this way.

LOUD will be out on Intermix/Penguin on January 2016!And hey you can actually buy it as a pre-order from Amazon! A follow-up will be out in the spring of 2016.

My agent is the ever-patient and sharp-dressing wizard chess aficionado, Brooks Sherman at The Bent Agency in Brooklyn. I am so very lucky to have him in my corner.

I also write YA and other romance. I have a picture book sitting in a drawer and four different ideas for middle grade novels. I write a lot, is basically what I’m trying to say, when I’m not otherwise working or wrangling children.

I studied English Literature at UMASS, Amherst a long, long time ago and I was a total Arthurian Legends dork. I once wrote a 5 page poem about a llama and King Arthur for my friend’s birthday. I wanted to be a novelist way back then but I was too young. (I’m not saying there’s an age requirement or anything, I’m just saying that I wasn’t very good at writing books when I was 19 or 22.) I didn’t want to teach English (why not? I really don’t know, it was just a feeling), so after I graduated I went and did a lot of other unrelated things instead, some of them terribly interesting and others not.

SYNOPSIS

He knows how to score, on and off the ice

Allie Hayes is in crisis mode. With graduation looming, she still doesn’t have the first clue about what she’s going to do after college. To make matters worse, she’s nursing a broken heart thanks to the end of her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di-Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just once, though, because even if her future is uncertain, it sure as heck won’t include the king of one-night stands.

It’ll take more than flashy moves to win her over

Dean always gets what he wants. Girls, grades, girls, recognition, girls…he’s a ladies man, all right, and he’s yet to meet a woman who’s immune to his charms. Until Allie. For one night, the feisty blonde rocked his entire world—and now she wants to be friends? Nope. It’s not over until he says it’s over. Dean is in full-on pursuit, but when life-rocking changes strike, he starts to wonder if maybe it’s time to stop focusing on scoring…and shoot for love.

Kindle Friends Forever 5 Review by Sarah Bookhooked.

After reading and loving Garret and Hannah in The Deal and Logan and Grace in The Mistake, I couldn’t believe it when I was given the opportunity to review The Score. I can tell you now that after reading about both Dean and Allie in the other books, I was really anxious to read their story. And let me tell you now, it most definitely not disappointing. If anything, this is by far my favourite.

Dean is well known on campus with the ladies. He isn’t ashamed to flaunt what he has and as he says himself, “Live the life of Dean.” He is at college until he goes to Harvard to follow in his family’s footsteps; law. He is more than happy to live up to what people want to believe what he’s like. A typical college hockey player and a lady’s man, but is this really who he is!

Allie who is Hannah’s ‘BFF’, has split from her boyfriend of three years, studies drama at college as she wants to become an actress. She likes things safe since she’s always been in a long term relationship. So after one night with lots of tequila, she finds herself waking up in Deans bed. This would be Dean who has been give strict instructions to stay away from Allie given his reputation with the ladies. The fact that he was about to have a threesome when Allie arrives at the door is mortifying as she doesn’t do casual sex.

Quote: “God, I’m not cut out for casual sex. I feel…defiled. Except that’s ridiculous, because if anyone was defiled last night, it was Dean. Not only did I seduce him, but I tied him up and rode him like he was my own personal amusement park ride.”

However, Dean has definitely met his match in Allie with the way the sparks flew and oh boy, does he want more! There was no denying this was going to be a one night only thing. Come to think of it, there wasn’t actually sparks setting the sheets set on fire when these two were together! After lots of pestering from Dean, Allie finally caves in and admits to herself that deep down she wants to spend another night with him. She hopes they can work each other of their systems; however, one more night isn’t enough. So these two agree to hooking up but not telling any of their friends.

This book had some real laugh out loud moments like the incident with ‘Winston’, and then while they are trying to watch a movie…

Quote: “Why is your arm around me?” His expression is all innocence. “This is how I watch movies.” “Really? So you put your arm around Garrett when you watch movies with him?” “Absolutely. And if he’s nice to me, sometimes I slide my hand down his pants.” Dean’s other hand skims down to the waistband of my leggings. “Be nice to me, and I promise I’ll be even nicer in return.”

Of course, behind the person he lets people see, there is so much more to him than he lets on. He’s a really clever guy regardless of him being wary of his past and falling for anyone again. Then there’s Allie only doing relationships and not a bit of slap and tickle on the side. Can these two keep emotions out of it? I’ll let you read and find out for yourself.

I really did love this story from the happy laugh out loud moments to the sad ones, too. Elle’s writing is fantastic and with the way this read ended… I can’t wait for Tuckers story!

THE BALLER COVER

Excerpt from THE BALLER

“You ready?” Nick slung his bag over his shoulder and lifted his camera. The reporter in front of us wrapped up his interview and shook hands with Easton.

As I’ll ever be. “Sure.”

I stepped forward and extended my hand. “I’m Delilah Maddox with WMBC Sports News.”

A slow grin spread across Easton’s face. He surprised me by leaning in and kissing me on the cheek. “Pleasure to meet you.”

I wasn’t sure if he was baiting me into an argument—expecting me to lash out at him for kissing me when he’d just shaken the last male reporter’s hand—or if he was trying to use his blatant sexuality to throw me off. Either way, I wasn’t playing his game. I cleared my throat and stood straighter, even though my knees felt a little wobbly.

“Do you mind if I ask you some questions?”

“Why else would you be in here?”

I ignored his sarcasm. He was still smiling at me. Actually, it was more like a smirk, and it made me feel like a toy he was about to play with. “You ready, Nick?” My cameraman finished setting up the lighting, then lifted the camera into position and gave me a hand signal.

“Congratulations on the win today, Brody. How is your knee feeling after your first game back?” I lifted my microphone high, knowing Nick was filming in close.

“I feel . . . ” He nonchalantly reached to the towel wrapped around his waist and tugged at the corner. The towel fell to the ground. “Great. I feel great. And how about you? It’s your first trip into the locker room, isn’t it? Do you like what you see so far?” His lips curled up into a full-blown wicked smile.

Before I could catch myself, my eyes dropped to his naked lower half. Shit. He was dangling in the wind. I totally got distracted by just how low the thing dangled. It was probably a full minute before I responded to his question. A full minute of dead air time. Great. “Yes. Umm . . . the locker room is . . . ummm . . . nice.”

I sounded like a total ditz. On air.

The jackass continued interviewing me. “Is it as big as you thought it would be?”

“Ummm . . . it’s much bigger than I imagined.”

His smile grew even wider.

Ugh.

I needed to get back on track or my first locker room interview would become a laughingstock blooper. Viewers had no idea he was naked from the waist down. “Do you think you were at one hundred percent today?”

His eyebrows jumped. “If you’re referring to today’s game, definitely. I had one hundred percent out there on the field. There’re some other areas where I have a lot of growth potential, but my knee felt one hundred percent today.”

His pale green eyes darkened, and I watched his long lashes lower. I followed his line of sight, and suddenly I was staring at his naked package. Again. Damn it. My eyes darted back up, but I felt my cheeks heating. I had to end this, or I was going to be beet red on air.

“Well, welcome back. And congratulations on today’s win.”

I waited until Nick lowered his camera and turned off the light. Then I looked right at Brody Easton’s smug face. “You’re an asshole, you know that?”

His eyes sparkled. “I do.”

I heard the chuckles and high fives at my back as I stormed out of the locker room.

Blurb

SYNOPSIS

Perfect for fans of Alice Clayton and Emma Chase, Lauren Layne’s Oxford series heats up in this story of forbidden desire as a brooding jock hoping for a comeback falls for a woman who’s strictly off-limits.

A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he’s retired, courtesy of the car accident that ruined his career—and single, after a nasty scandal torpedoed his marriage. Just as he’s starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist for Oxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled. But he can’t stop thinking about the one person who’s always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister.

Mollie Carrington can’t say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie’s just glad she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago—or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson’s mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place. But she can’t win if she doesn’t play the game.

KKF’s 4  Review by Rachel McEwan and Sharon Thérèse Nuttall

* ARC kindly provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.*

Excellently narrated in third person from both protagonists’ point of view, we can’t say how much we enjoyed this standalone. We have never read works by this author, so therefore we were delighted to read a story embroiled in moral ethics. A subject not at all new to the non-fiction literary world of ways of the heart; nevertheless, this one is really worth reading. Love triangles have never been an issue for us since it is well-known that for one reason or another, this happens. However, here we have a classic example of you can’t have your cake and eat it, too! Of course, the individual in question managed to make us want to knock her on the head with our Kindles! Not only that, the leading male character exasperated us to the point of shouting at him… yeah, making him see reason would push us to the limits.

“Madison would kill me.”
“Do you care?”
“She’s my sister.”

Now then; why did we request to read this book in the first place? American football is more comparable with rugby than soccer in our book. And anyone who knows us, know how much we love a good ballgame. The implications in the blurb for a story revolving around a sportsman trying to make up his mind as to whether or not his ex is worth even thinking about, whetted our appetite. Jackson Burke’s very being revolves around this sport, so when this elite quarterback had an unfortunate accident, not only would his personal life take a turn for the worst but more important to him, a passion second to none died a sudden death.

“You want to talk about it?”
“That’s the strange thing about our history. You know everything.”

Trying to get around the fact that Jackson was far too generous for his own good was for us, hard work. Standing up for himself, coming clean and even voicing his opinion about an omnishambles of a marriage he had had, wasn’t an option. Or was it? Given the opportunity in his new job to tell all, his indecisiveness was such a huge part of what we thought, his downfalls. We felt that this gorgeous guy lacked backbone. Wait and see though. His childhood sweetheart and love of his life who cries crocodile tears, is more conniving, bitchier and status grabbing than anyone we have come across in a while. Oh boy, was she going be in for the surprise of her life! Neither do they have any urges for truths to be revealed. Obviously, strangling them wasn’t an option, either. For my man of the day, this was the once bitten syndrome…

“Cut me some slack, here, Mollie ! I don’t exactly know protocol. A year ago you were my wife’s sister, and now you’re …..”
“I’m what ?”
“F**king hot!”

Sweeter than sweet is Mollie Carrington. She is quite honestly the girl next door and her personality outshines her sister, Maddie, without even realising it. Mollie is an awfully grateful person. Her sister is a huge driving force in her life as you will see when you read this book. She has everything to thank her for. And much to our consternation, feel guilty for. Connecting to anyone else other than her best friend who has her heart in his hands, made us cry no end. Upsetting the status quo and believing in her sister’s selfishness at times was very frustrating for us. Mollie can’t help thinking the best of her sister which ultimately gave her sister the upper hand!

“ I’ve always, always loved you. Even when it was a really, really bad idea.”

When the sugar hits the fan, coming to terms with the truth is not going to be an easy task for either party. First love, a love forever which has always been kept guarded on the same lines as a Shakespearean tragedy with all its twist and turns, flowers into something special. We loved to hate Mollie’s sister. Well done to the author’s construction of all the characters, primary or secondary. We must add that we thought the dialogue between all the characters was excellent! The banter flowed brilliantly which for us made the story!

Hmm, hot… yes; and in the right moment without any holds barred. Suspense, not too much but this read will have you guessing as to what is going to happen next. Summing up, quite a brilliant read Ms Layne. Bravo!

SYNOPSIS

The only thing better than cake is cake with a side of orgasms.

Dylan James has no expectations when it comes to relationships. He uses women for sex and they use him for his money and power. It’s quid pro quo and he’s good with that. It works.

Beth Harrison has been burned. She’s tired of the lies and the game playing that men bring and has buried herself in her passion—baking which keeps her out of the reach of heartbreak. As she begins her career as a TV baker, a new world opens up to her.

Dylan and Beth both know that casual sex is all about giving what you need to get what you want.

Except that sometimes you give more than you need to and get everything you ever wanted.

EXCERPT

Dylan

“I understood the dynamic between men and women. I got to sleep with hot women, and in exchange they got to fuck a rich guy in the hope that they’d become beneficiaries of my cash. I might be handsome, but I knew from bitter experience that if a richer guy came along, I’d be left in the taillights of the women I slept with. It just happened that now, there weren’t many richer men, which gave me a certain satisfaction. I’d made peace with the transactional nature of relationships between men and women and had no expectations. At some point in my past I’d thought that love was possible. Not anymore. It was all about giving to get.”
