THE BALLER COVER

THE BALLER SYNOPSIS LABEL1

The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men’s locker room.

It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster.

The famed quarterback decided to bare all.

And by all, I don’t mean he told me any of his secrets.

No.  The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question.  On camera.

The Super Bowl MVP quickly adopted a new hobby—screwing with me.

When I pushed back, he shifted from wanting to screw with me, to wanting to screw me.

But I don’t date players.

And it’s not because I’m one of the few women working in the world of professional football.

I’d date an athlete.

It’s the other kind of player I don’t date.

You know the type.  Good looking, strong, cocky, always looking to get laid.

Brody Easton was the ultimate player.

Every woman wanted to be the one to change him.

But the truth was, all he needed was a girl worth changing for.

Turned out, I was that girl.

Simple right?

Let’s face it.  It never is.

There’s a story between once upon a time and happily ever after…

And this one is ours.

#BrodyBallerBreathlessBodyBeguiling!

“Is that liquor talking, or you? You said liquor and all I heard was ‘lick her’……”

Guaranteed to have you in stitches, this fan grabbing steamy and passionate read has a good dosage of poignant events that squeezed our hearts, too. Kept stuck to the pages in which is nothing less than fan – freakin’- tastic, we had a good idea what we’d be letting ourselves in for. However, never in a million years could we ever have imagined she’d go to such lengths with double entendres. Words and names are so well invented in all their ridiculousness making us wonder how on earth the author’s imagination works. And then of course, the development of the protagonists’ personalities was the cherry on top of the pie. Add detailed and solid storyline is the recipe for a scrumptious read. The fact that this standalone is lacking a prologue was neither here nor there as the reader is thrown straight into a scene overflowing with banter. Yeah, we’re suckers for dialogue! Getting more and more involved in the story was when it was brought home as to Ms Keeland’s knowledge of football and the goings on in the locker room. Little inkling did we have regarding the setup as us English gals follow what you Americans call soccer resulting in a real eye-opener.

“Awesome. Dinner, then fucking? Or fucking, then dinner?”
“Gee. How is a girl to decide with such titillating choices?”
“Flip a coin. Heads – you give me. Tails – I take yours. It’s a total win – win for you. By the way, I really like it when you work ‘tit’ into our conversation, dirty girl.”

Do you think Brody Easton had us fooled? Well, yes! Player extraordinaire on and off the field, his reputation as a ladies’ man is second to none. What a cocksure flirt, (pun intended)! We couldn’t help but break out in laughter almost to the point of crying with his quirky comebacks. Why he baffled us is simply because there’s much more to him than meets the eye. Although he’s going to have to step up in the charming department if he’s to win Delilah over, he’s a real softy at heart. So the chase is on. Used to women dropping at his feet, it was a thrill to see him work for what he wanted. And oh boy, did he work at it and did he want!

“You’re an asshole, you know that?”
“I do.”

Delilah Maddox lives and breathes football. Brought up in a sporty ambience, her professionalism has earned a position which she takes very seriously. Working for WMBC Sports, is she one sassy sports reporter! Crikey, she’s a walking football encyclopaedia, stunning and totally not into having amorous flings with footballers; least of all, a scorching hot one… Furthermore, she gives as much as she gets but why she holds back is something you’ll have to find out for yourselves.

“Does dinner mean sleeping with you?”
“Hopefully when it’s over. But if you want to switch things up a bit and get to the fucking first, I’m happy to oblige.”

Like a twist or two? One of them is comparable with the worst hairpin bend in the Coll de Soller, Mallorca! You’re forced to reduce speed, change gear and pray that no one’s coming in the opposite direction. This is exactly what happens in this book and the very last thing we expected. Oh, did our hearts palpitate raising our blood pressure and were we floored!

“I don’t forgive you yet.”
“No?”
“Maybe I will after I get those multiple apologies you promised.”
“There’s nothing else I would like to do than fuck you full of sorry.”

Brody and Delilah’s story took us on one very tear inducing journey! Yes, the story was full to the absolute brim of some of the funniest one liners we have ever had the pleasure of reading, but there was also a very emotional side to it. We loved how she gave us the giggles in one chapter to ugly crying moments in the next! And just when we thought we couldn’t take any more, we read the most stunning epilogue! All we are saying is please stock up on the tissues and maybe a glass or two of the hard stuff too! Consider yourself warned!

“mmm….. I could get used to this kind of welcome home.”
“That’s good, baby. Because I threw out the vibrator in your end table drawer.”

Narrated from the first-person-plural perspective in past tense, viewpoints are skilfully constructed. An expert in dangling the carrot in front of one’s nose, the author had us guessing as to what the outcome would be and wow, did we love it! Of course, it was not without being put through the mangle beforehand. All her characters come alive, you live their ups and downs, their uncertainties, their hopes and their fragilities. Touching on a delicate subject which affects many families was done with compassion, the right amount of humour, and couldn’t have been put across better. Ms Keeland, you have written a story next to none and has to be one of our favourites. Bravo!

“How come you’re whispering now? Don’t you want the whole world to hear how much you love me?”
“Didn’t you just hear? I just told them.”
