The New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled books returns with the third romance in the Legal Briefs series, a collection of sexy novels about first crushes, second chances, and the final verdict of the heart.

When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate—and prized—parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Louboutins.

When Kennedy looks at Brent, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue–worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school in order to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell for her.

But she’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore—she’s a Washington, DC, prosecutor with a long winning streak. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case, and Kennedy thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.

But things aren’t exactly working out the way she planned. Brent has his sights set on Kennedy, and every fiery exchange only makes him want her more—and makes her wonder if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. In the end, they may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.

**Many thanks to publisher for providing this ARC via NetGalley for an honest review**

Bellyaching laughter, messages flying to and fro while our spouses were trying their hardest to get to sleep, was to be the recipe for a night of interruptions. Recommendation. Don’t attempt to do what we did and start reading Appealed at bedtime. Unless, of course, you have a gripe with your partner ’cause this is the perfect payback! There is no doubt whatsoever that this little of gem of a read transforms into the size of the famous diamond Burton gave Liz Taylor. Why? Because it is so deliciously scrumptious that putting it down wasn’t questioned by either of us. The story just seemed to get better and better, funnier, and more complicated as we read on. Told in present from the male protagonist’s point of view, as the banter was astoundingly hilarious and in abundance, this storytelling technique used by the author was beyond our expectations.

Brent ~ “… Her bra gets snagged on an antenna of a passing car and waves majestically down the street like the flag on a diplomats vehicle from some awesome country names Titsland. Feels like I should salute it.’’

So the author has done it again! She’s brought us the perfect complement to a series which is nothing less than outstanding. Her witty ability to write the male protagonist’s traits is exactly how one would imagine a fella would think and exceedingly skilful. Now it’s Brent Mason’s story and ooh boy, if Jake was our man in Sustained, we soon changed our tune in this read.

Brent ~ If I’m jonesing for a family fix, I can swing by my friends’ houses for dinner and be the favorite uncle to their kids. All the perks, none of the obligation. Life is short – I want to live it. And I really like living it free.’’

Drop-dead gorgeous, accomplished criminal defence attorney and playboy par excellence, his sexual prowess isn’t in the slightest bit hindered by his handicap. Quite the reverse, actually. Convinced that life is too short to have a monogamous relationship, he and his therapist discuss the reasons for his wish to stay single. All his partners in Becker Mason Santos law firm are his best friends and have found their better halves. Now he finds himself on the shelf for want of a better word. Waldo! What a character and a half! We adored this guy who has more patience than a saint and comebacks so fittingly perfect for such a frustrating patient with more nervous energy that a Duracell battery.

Waldo ~ “Well, it’s apparent that you believe what you say. That you think you want this self-focused, low-responsibility lifestyle. The way Pinocchio wanted to cut his strings so he could be a real boy.”

Kennedy Randolph walks into the scenario with her boxing gloves on. Metaphorically speaking, of course. She’s ready to box Brent’s ears in a court case she is opposing as prosecutor. Why she wants revenge after not seeing her childhood best friend and sweetheart since way, way back is an enigma even for Brent. He can’t get over the change in her, either. Now here’s one hell of a sexy and successful woman, but that sweetness he remembered has been replaced with sharp retorts charged with contempt. Where did she go and why she disappeared off the face of the earth without so much as a goodbye, not only intrigues Brent, but he’s also going to have to come to terms with some very hard-earned truths when all is revealed. Oh Lord, is he going to fall off his own pedestal! Using all his manly skills in and out of the courtroom to try and win her over, was a match we really did savour. Despite having reasons for being such a bitch, we couldn’t help but side with her. So for us, it was very much like watching a spectacular battle of wits with plenty of below the belt punches outweighed with humour having us in stitches. The only spanner in the works is she never expected to still have feelings for him, however, she’s going to give him a run for his money. And Brent, sacre bleu! Enraptured, bewitched and for once in his life, not ashamed to admit it, goes out of his way to woo her.

Kennedy ~ “ It’s easy to be brave when you have Great – Grandpa’s money behind you.’’
Brent ~ “ That’s pretty presumptuous of you.’’
Kennedy ~ “ No, what’s presumptuous is thinking you can walk over here, ogle my tits and ass, and assume I won’t call you out on it.’’

Wow! Does Ms Chase know how to write freaking marvellous sex scenes. The only word we could possibly use to describe the sexual desire between Kennedy and Brent is HOT! This couple’s passion was a blast and a half of steaminess and made our temperatures rise. Oh my word, get your hands on a fan, anything that moves air. Put the air-conditioning on full-blast; take a cold shower, ice cubes, whatever! We were delighted with the special treat offered at the end of the story; liars…we were absolutely over the moon as these two lovebirds deserved everything and more besides and you gave it to them Ms Chase. You delivered, as per usual in this series, an awesome read with a few nail-biting twists and turns. It saddens us to say that this is the last book in The Legal Briefs series. Thank you for giving us more of Brent’s best friends, too. It was a joy to read how they were all getting on with their lives. This book can be read as a standalone; nevertheless, we highly recommend you reading the two previous books to enjoy the secondary characters in this one. We really don’t want you to miss out on the slightest detail. What more can we say other than BRAVO!

Brent ~ “If Kennedy’s ass were bronzed, I would prostrate myself before it and pray.’’
