Ten years ago US Marine Sebastian Hunter was a teenager in love with a married woman—a woman who broke his heart.

Kicking his heels in a desk job in Geneva, he’s given the chance to get back to the action. Life just might be worth living again … until he meets the woman who broke him 10 years earlier.

Now she’s back, but he’ll do anything to keep her at arm’s length. Temptation doesn’t come much stronger, but he’d be a fool to fall for her again…

Caroline Venzi is a successful journalist, preparing to head out to report from the front lines of the war in Afghanistan. Love is the last thing on her mind when she crosses paths with Marine Sebastian Hunter.

Will this chance encounter reignite the erotic passion of their past?

KFF’s 5 ★ REVIEW by Sarah Bookhooked

There’s no denying Jane is one of my favourite authors and Semper Fi didn’t fail to be another incredible read.

After reading and loving The Education of Sebastian (TEoS) which took place ten years before The Education of Caroline (TeoC), and both from Caroline’s point of view, Semper Fi is the retelling of The Education of Caroline from Sebastian’s point of view. I’m a big lover of a duel point of view read so when I heard that Jane had written this, I was thrilled that I was not only going to be getting more of Seb, but also his POV. Oh, how I loved to be inside his head and hear this outstanding story in his own words.

Seb was only seventeen when he fell in love with Caro. Caroline was thirty, married, but things weren’t going as well as they should have been for her. You get their back story in the first book, (The Education of Sebastian), which tells us how these two fell for each other and the outcome after being torn apart.

My heart went out for Caro. Her very existence was an absolute nightmare. Controlled by husband and still married to him, she meets up with Sebastian once again. She hadn’t seen him since he was a little boy; now he’s a seventeen year old who had had a rough life no thanks to his parents. So his upbringing wasn’t a great start and it wasn’t made any better after they found out about them being together.

Ten years later, Caro is a journalist and Seb enlisted as a marine. Meeting up anew, it just happens that Seb is preparing to go back to Afghanistan. Even though emotions are at bursting point, little does he know that she will end up reporting in this conflictive war zone. So when he spots her, he realises she is and has always been his one and only true love. How does he win her back? He’s still madly in love with her and prepared to do whatever it takes to get her back and be his forever.

Quote: Seb ~ “Caro, I’ve got seventeen days before I ship out. I’d like to spend them with you. That’s all. If you don’t want to see me after that…well, I guess that’s it.”

But is she prepared to give it another go with Seb?

Quote: Caro ~ “Look, today, tonight—it’s been fun. But like I said to you before, I’m really not looking to get tied down again.

These two go through so much from a road trip where they get to know each other more, to heading out to a combat area together, to a horrible accident and suffering PTSD. Can they both pull through his trauma and get the ending they both deserve? I most certainly felt that they warranted it. For me, the quote below simply sums up his undeniable love for her.

Quote: Seb ~ I looked into her eyes, so she could see the truth of my words. “I love you, Caro, so much. I haven’t changed how I feel. I still love you—I’ve always loved you. It’s only ever been you.”

So my biggest fear was whether or not they would be able to overcome the past and conquer the present? I’ll leave this for you to find out for yourselves in this beautifully written story. Saying that, I am sad that we won’t get any more of Caro and Seb. The ending! Wow, it literally took my breath away. Quite magnificent.

Flawlessly plotted with really good character development, this story, for me, flowed from the beginning to the end with perfection. I can’t wait for the next brilliant piece of writing from Jane. Oh, and one more thing I really must add is the age difference. Loved it!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I love to write.

I was born on the 13th, which explains a lot.

I write every day and get twitchy on the days when I’m prevented from writing.

I live by the beach, so you’ll find a beach scene in all of my books sooner or later.

Hobbies include ogling hot surfers.

Writing is solitary but that doesn’t make it lonely. My FB and Goodreads friends are very important to me. My writing buddies are A. Meredith Walters and Devon Hartford—lovely, kind, generous people.

I carry a notebook EVERYWHERE. I never know when ideas will come to me. I even write notes to myself at night in the dark. Hopefully I can read the scrawl I’ve written in the morning.

There’s a little part of me in every book I write. The philosophy from ‘Playing in the Rain’ is that you have to make the most of the life you’re given—choose to be happy as much as you can and look for the positive. I don’t always make it, but I do try.
