CALLING ME BACK EXCLUSIVE

Even after all these years of knowing him, I had to consciously remember to breathe when he walked into a room. Like some fantasy Viking, he was tall, blond and underneath his tight, golden skin, his muscles looked hard as wood. His sheer physical presence almost overwhelmed me for the first seconds I was around him. It was always as if he took up all the air, all the space in the room—he was all I could see. I grinned as he walked in my direction.”

CALLING ME BACK REVIEW

It is no secret what a huge fan of Louise I am. I continuously wait with bated breath for the next literacy serving and am bowled over every time with the stories that are delivered.

The series, What The Lightning Sees, had extraordinary side characters to warrant their own story and that is exactly what we get with this first book in a new series. It is about Haven Daniel’s best friend and adversary, Ashleigh, and Haven’s brother, Luke.

Ashleigh has been best friends with Haven and Luke since childhood. She has been madly and deeply in love with Luke for most of that time; nevertheless, what she believes is that Luke sees her more as a sister than a possible love interest. This is the reason why she decides to try some sort of romance with a colleague from work, accepting there will probably be no kind of romantic relationship with Luke.

Luke has been with his girlfriend Emma for three years and while seemingly happy, as far as he is concerned, it materialises that Emma wants more as in marriage and babies. Luke is not so keen on the idea and a rift builds between the two.

Quote: Luke ~ ” How’s the business of curing the sick and the dying?”
Ashleigh ~ “I work in palliative care, you douche. No one gets cured. that’s the point.”
Luke ~ “Stop making excuses for being a sh**ty nurse.”

A perfect example of the kind of fun loving banter these two have always had would have to be the above quote. At all times, the dialogue between them I found quite adorable. Furthermore, their carefree relationship impressed me no-end and it was plain to see that they had built a solid foundation of friendship over the years. They discuss what Emma wants and Ashleigh tries to give him impartial advice. However, she is trying her hardest to distance herself for reasons to revealed and give her romance with Richard a chance. Luke is struggling with all the changes happening; Emma wants to move forward and that only makes him long for things to be how they were. Haven and Ash waking hungover in the guest room, the three of them having dinner together and to have the easy laughs they had grown up with are just sweet memories.

Obviously, I don’t want to give too much away! Let’s just say things develop at an incredible pace. Does Luke move along with what Emma wants? Does Ashleigh and Richard become more serious? You will have to read this brilliantly written story to find out about all the characters’ stances. I have to add that the ending left me feeling exasperated as to what is in store for them. It also left me feeling that there will be a hell of a lot of angst on the horizon for all involved. There is of course, a play-list which as always, never disappoints. On this front, the tracks fit the story perfectly. One in particular I have had on repeat is ‘If I Knew Then’ by Lady Antebellum.

I look forward to the next instalment, Calling Me Away. Yet again, Louise delivers a well told story and this lady ceases to amaze me.

CALLING ME BACK AUTHOR

USA Today bestselling author, Louise Bay writes sexy, contemporary romance novels – the kind she likes to read.

Her books include the novels Faithful and Hopeful and the novella series’ The Empire State Series and What the Lightning Sees. The novels and together the series are stand-alone although there are some overlapping characters.

Ruined by romantic mini-series of the eighties, Louise loves all things romantic. There’s not enough of it in real life so she disappears into the fictional worlds in books and films.
Louise loves the rain, the West Wing, London, days when she doesn’t have to wear make-up, being on her own, being with friends, elephants and champagne.
She loves to hear from readers so get in touch!
