calling me away

Is it possible for a guy to turn on a switch and realize he’s been in love with a girl that’s been under his nose for over a decade? Ashleigh Franklin can’t decide.

Ashleigh wants the fairy tale. Ever since she was a kid, her best friend’s brother, Luke, has been her fantasy Prince Charming. Now he’s trying to convince her that she’s the one he’s wanted all these years. There’s no way it’s that easy to escape the friend zone.

Single after years living with a girlfriend, Luke has finally woken up. What he’s been waiting for has been right under his nose for almost his entire life. Can he persuade her that he’s serious and won’t break her heart?

A Wonder Woman costume, a bottle of tequila and a game of truth or dare between two close friends changes everything.

“Tell me more.” I loved her dirty words. They slipped from her as if they were just below the surface, ready to break free. They were a reminder of how the Ashleigh I’d known for so long wasn’t the whole girl. That the one lying beside me, begging for sex, was the entire package—in more ways than one.

This is the second instalment of The Calling Me Series featuring Ashleigh and Luke, the side characters from What The Lightning Sees. It was always going to be full of angst because of where the first segment left me wondering. What I wasn’t expecting is the sizzling hotness I read at the beginning. Wow, a cold shower was required as Louise certainly knows how to write a very steamy scene!

Ashleigh has been in love with Luke since they were children but after Luke came out of a long term relationship, she questions herself as to whether he is on a rebound. He’d never indicated he felt more for her or reciprocated in any way at all.

Quote: Ashleigh ~ “No, it’s too much; it’s too good. I’m close, too soon.”
Luke ~ “I want to stay inside you forever.”

I felt like smacking my Kindle over Ashleigh and Luke’s heads as I was convinced from the start they belonged together. However, as I read on, I realised that their story had been cleverly construed. I love it when I have to make mental notes about how the plot is going to develop and I most certainly had to have my wits about me in this read. Were they committed to trying a relationship or just the fantasy of it? A self-discovery of their feelings and learning how to cope with them was a pleasure to read. Ashleigh especially made me doubt it all. And Luke? Proving to himself that he wanted more than a friendship wouldn’t be easy as there was also the possibility of dating others. Of course, I thought that this detail would be a stumbling block for both of them.

Quote: Luke ~ “Fiona and I went out a few times.”
Ashleigh ~ “You like her?”
Luke ~ “She’s a great girl but she’s not you. I don’t feel this,” “with her.”

This segment of the series was brilliantly written and I was urging Ashleigh and Luke to see some sense. Well, throughout their story, actually. I do love a friends to lovers book. It always seems so much more intense and the angst I had was probably due to the characters wanting to justify their true love. Not just a glorified friendship. Ashleigh and Luke have an amazing chemistry and even with all the twists and turns, there is no getting away from the fact their amorous journey had me enthralled.

Quote: Ashleigh ~ “I want this to happen and you have to admit that it is complicated because of our history and what’s at stake.”
Luke ~ “But nothing we can’t handle. We got this. You have to trust me.”

It is amazing how Louise can conjure up some pretty interesting characters, and I cannot stress enough how refreshing it is to see how a story can be developed from back story characters. Not all authors can do this. And although it had been done before, my point is this. Ms Bay is a genius storyteller. Her talent and interesting ‘imagination’ kept me glued to the book. I would highly recommend reading Louise’s work but The Calling Me Series has to be right up high in my estimation of the ultimate erotic reading material. Romance, hotness, angst… it has everything. In the words of a playlist track, ‘Say You Love Me’.

The novels and together the series are stand-alone although there are some overlapping characters. Ruined by romantic mini-series of the eighties, Louise loves all things romantic. There’s not enough of it in real life so she disappears into the fictional worlds in books and films. Louise loves the rain, the West Wing, London, days when she doesn’t have to wear make-up, being on her own, being with friends, elephants and champagne.

A new dark romance series from the New York Times bestselling author of Twist Me

She fears him from the first moment she sees him.

Yulia Tzakova is no stranger to dangerous men. She grew up with them. She survived them. But when she meets Lucas Kent, she knows the hard ex-soldier may be the most dangerous of them all.

One night—that’s all it should be. A chance to make up for a failed assignment and get information on Kent’s arms dealer boss. When his plane goes down, it should be the end.

Instead, it’s just the beginning.

He wants her from the first moment he sees her.

Lucas Kent has always liked leggy blondes, and Yulia Tzakova is as beautiful as they come. The Russian interpreter might’ve tried to seduce his boss, but she ends up in Lucas’s bed—and he has every intention of seeing her there again.

Then his plane goes down, and he learns the truth.

She betrayed him.

Now she will pay.

NOTE: Capture Me is the first book about Lucas & Yulia and has a cliffhanger-ish ending. It’s a long novella/short novel of approximately 45,000 words (about 200 pages) and is a spin-off from the Twist Me trilogy. It’s not necessary to have read that trilogy to enjoy Capture Me, but the book does contain major spoilers for books 2 and 3 of Twist Me.

Author’s Note: This is from Yulia’s POV. For those of you familiar with the Twist Me series, this scene takes place in Moscow, when Lucas & Julian were there to meet with the Russian officials.

He steps into my apartment as soon as the door swings open. No hesitation, no greeting—he just comes in.

Startled, I step back, the short, narrow hallway suddenly stiflingly small. I’d somehow forgotten how big he is, how broad his shoulders are. I’m tall for a woman—tall enough to fake being a model if an assignment calls for it—but he towers a full head above me. With the heavy down jacket he’s wearing, he takes up almost the entire hallway.

Still not saying a word, he closes the door behind him and advances toward me. Instinctively, I back away, feeling like cornered prey.

“Hello, Yulia,” he murmurs, stopping when we’re out of the hallway. His pale gaze is locked on my face. “I wasn’t expecting to see you like this.”

I swallow, my pulse racing. “I just took a bath.” I want to seem calm and confident, but he’s got me completely off-balance. “I wasn’t expecting visitors.”

“No, I can see that.” A faint smile appears on his lips, softening the hard line of his mouth. “Yet you let me in. Why?”

“Because I didn’t want to continue talking through the door.” I take a steadying breath. “Can I offer you some tea?” It’s a stupid thing to say, given what he’s here for, but I need a few moments to compose myself.

He raises his eyebrows. “Tea? No, thanks.”

“Then can I take your jacket?” I can’t seem to stop playing the hostess, using politeness to cover my anxiety. “It looks quite warm.”

Amusement flickers in his wintry gaze. “Sure.” He takes off his down jacket and hands it to me. He’s left wearing a black sweater and dark jeans tucked into black winter boots. The jeans hug his legs, revealing muscular thighs and powerful calves, and on his belt, I see a gun sitting in a holster.

Irrationally, my breathing quickens at the sight, and it takes a concerted effort to keep my hands from shaking as I take the jacket and walk over to hang it in my tiny closet. It’s not a surprise that he’s armed—it would be a shock if he wasn’t—but the gun is a stark reminder of who Lucas Kent is.

What he is.

It’s no big deal, I tell myself, trying to calm my frayed nerves. I’m used to dangerous men. I was raised among them. This man is not that different. I’ll sleep with him, get whatever information I can, and then he’ll be out of my life.

Yes, that’s it. The sooner I can get it done, the sooner all of this will be over.

Closing the closet door, I paste a practiced smile on my face and turn back to face him, finally ready to resume the role of confident seductress.

Except he’s already next to me, having crossed the room without making a sound.

My pulse jumps again, my newfound composure fleeing. He’s close enough that I can see the gray striations in his pale blue eyes, close enough that he can touch me.

And a second later, he does touch me.

Lifting his hand, he runs the back of his knuckles over my jaw.

I stare up at him, confused by my body’s instant response. My skin warms and my nipples tighten, my breath coming faster. It doesn’t make sense for this hard, ruthless stranger to turn me on. His boss is more handsome, more striking, yet it’s Kent my body’s reacting to. All he’s touched thus far is my face. It should be nothing, yet it’s intimate somehow.

Intimate and disturbing.

I swallow again. “Mr. Kent—Lucas—are you sure I can’t offer you something to drink? Maybe some coffee or—” My words end in a breathless gasp as he reaches for the tie of my robe and tugs on it, as casually as one would unwrap a package.

“No.” He watches as the robe falls open, revealing my naked body underneath. “No coffee.”

BLOG TOUR                                           DIRTY BAD STRANGERS by JADE WEST

TITLE: Dirty Bad Strangers (A Standalone Novel)

AUTHOR: Jade West

RELEASED: 21st September, 2015

GENRE: Erotic

HOSTED BY: Be My Book Boyfriend

He calls me his dirty girl.

He’s just a caller, a sex line client, an anonymous pervert like all the others.

Except he isn’t.

He’s under my skin… his voice, his laugh, his twisted fantasies.

He wants to watch me with other men. Lots of other men.

He wants me blindfolded and bound and taken by strangers until I’m a used-up mess.

Then he wants to take me himself.

I should hang up, report him to my supervisor.

But I won’t. I can’t

because I want him, too.

Gemma Taylor was born to be a chatline operator. Her filthy mouth and a filthier imagination make her hot property on sex chat. The hours are great and the money’s even better. She’s onto a good thing; finding her feet in the big smoke of London with a couple of old school friends.

Until he calls.

The rules of chat-line are clear: no personal information, no breaches of confidentiality, and absolutely no other forms of communication of any kind.

So why is she giving him her number? Why the hell is she planning on blindfolding herself and leaving her door unlocked for him?

Gemma Taylor’s in deep.

And she’s about to get deeper.

Much, much deeper.

Warning: As with the other Dirties, this book is exactly what the title suggests. A filthy tale of unlikely romance, featuring group sex, bondage, and the usual kind of extremity readers have come to expect from the pen of Jade West. Definitely, definitely 18+. A strong disposition certainly a bonus.

Kindle Friends Forever 5 ★ review by Sharon Thérèse Nuttall.

I really enjoyed Dirty Bad Wrong. I truly thought the storyline was original enough to leave its mark which, after seeing it up on the Best Erotic Read List on Amazon, was of no surprise to me. And at this very moment, it is number 16. I found the second book, Dirty Bad Savage, a little over the top; however, it was just as unputdownable as the first book. The third in this series; this one, has left me in awe of the author’s writing skills. She’s turned a size sixteen (English size folks), into a sexy, strong and independent woman. Curvaceous waistlines, shapely buttocks, generous thighs and well endowed breasts, are back. Believe you me when I say that The Birth of Venus by Botticelli is easily comparable with the leading lady’s voluptuous body. Many of us have a weight issues but after getting to know Gemma, aka Lucy, you’ll make your scales redundant!

What I loved about Gemma was her pride and her outshining inner-beauty. I respected and understood her honesty and sensibility regarding her privacy. This down to earth woman who works as a cyber-phone sex operator goes out of her way to shun the limelight. She can’t afford to be in it. I wish I could say the same thing for one of her supposed friends, which I might add, made me grind my teeth in frustration. This friend in question’s personality was extremely well developed and highlights the meaning of narcissism. If I had been physically able, I would have gladly trussed her up like a turkey! Her personality was so shallow, her words so degrading that my only wish was to have her selfishness thrown back in her face.

Quote: Chelsea ~  “Don’t you realise what it looks like for the rest of us? Our bubbly slutty friend burning up the dance floor?”

Gemma, for me, ruled. Her humour is belly-achingly fervent, but at the same time, my heart went out for her. Those laugh out loud moments I had were entwined with a feeling of utter sadness. In a plot that’s paced with such an ease, many a moral question arose! What would you do to satisfy you most intimate desires. How far would you go? Would you trust your instincts? Her decisions never made me think less of her.

Quote: Lucy ~ “I’ll never know you…” she breathed. “Never see you…you’ll always be a stranger… my dirty, bad stranger…”

Football, folks, is my passion. So when we have a star defender with the ripe old age of retirement, drop-dead gorgeous, but still on the ball, (excuse the pun), what do you expect me to say! With hair that beckons you to comb your fingers through, tatts and solid muscles in all the right places, how could I not fall for Jason. Not only that, as he is the captain of his team, he has a huge responsibility. Encouraging his team to play well reflects on his mood. Down and out, his team loses. Playing high on endorphins is a win win. This guy has got a lot on his plate. Meet his wife, April, and you’ll know what I mean. To say she wins the prize of bitchiness in my book would be putting it mildly.

Quote: Jason ~ “Hate is a very strong word, April. Mind your fucking tongue.”

The relationship Gemma and Jason have is a peculiar one. She’s damn good at her job and he is a frigging marvellous client. He speaks, she listens and vice versa. The outcome is pure dynamite. This is an extremely erotic read, the title extremely fitting, too! Say no more about that because you have to read it to comprehend that ‘strangers’ in this read is a keyword. But what makes this read a special one is love. Regardless of the explicitly described amorous and unconventional scenes, it is a mind-blowing read. HEA I had too, so I couldn’t possibly ask Ms West for more. Your secondary characters are marvellous in the respect that I either loved to love ’em or loved to hate ’em. The storyline is strong, the banter and vocabulary dirtier than dirty and I really found no fault in the grammar. Bravo to you. An excellent read.

“Lucy, whatever your name really is… tell me those two digits, or I swear to God I’ll try all ninety-nine combinations until I reach you, and I don’t give a fuck how many people I wake up at three a.m. to do it.”

Jade West is a contemporary erotic author, real life submissive, and former sex chat-line operator, who is plenty used to getting people all steamed up with her dirty mouth. Her debut release, Dirty Bad Wrong, smashed into the Amazon top 100 in February 2015, followed by Dirty Bad Savage in June – an Amazon top 100 bestseller in 4 countries. Dirty Bad Strangers, the latest tale of debauchery and unlikely romance, released September 19th.

What happens when the one you want is the only one you can’t have?

My name is Sevin.

Homeschooled and sheltered by my ultra-religious family, I was always taught that lust was a sin.

Elle was the girl who’d been carefully chosen for me.

After a long-distance courtship, I’d be moving into her family’s guest house so that we could get to know each other in the months before the wedding.

Boundaries were set: no inappropriate touching, no kissing, no sex before marriage.

I’d accepted those rules and my fate.

Until I met the one I wanted to sin with.

That was when restraint became a problem…especially since THE ONE wasn’t Elle.

It was her sister, Evangeline.

You know what they say about best laid plans.

My name is Sevin, and I have sinned.

Told in alternating points of view, Sins of Sevin is a full-length standalone novel.

Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language.

Only appropriate for adult readers

age 18+.

He quietly followed me into the dining room, carrying the flatware. The tension in the air was thick as he walked behind me around the oval table, setting down silverware after each plate I’d put down. It was like some weird game of musical chairs where awkward silence replaced the music. The hairs on my back stiffened. We weren’t saying anything, but it was as if I could feel the weight of a thousand words along with the heat of his body so close behind me.

When I noticed he’d just put a fork where the spoon was supposed to go, I switched it. “The forks go on this side, actually.” My hand was shaking. I couldn’t believe how little control I had over myself.

Noticing my nerves, he suddenly placed his hand over mine and whispered, “Stop.”

Chills ran through me. My heart started to beat faster. My nipples hardened. I hated my body for responding to him with equal amounts of fear and lust.

I turned to him, his hand still over my knuckles. It felt like I couldn’t breathe as he just looked at me.

My mother’s footsteps caused Sevin to move his hand off mine with lightning speed.

Mama entered, and we continued setting the table as if our stolen moment hadn’t happened.

To say I was surprised at the beginning of this standalone novel would be putting it lightly as the storyline the author has created is innovative in its complexity. In this day and age, two people normally get married because they’re very much in love or maybe there’s even a child in question. Unless of course, it is forced or arranged. Something we don’t normally see in the western world. Even though this story touches upon these lines, two of the characters are quite willing to seal their vows in this sacred union. Both have their reasons which I had trouble coming to terms with; however, you really do need to read this beautifully written story to understand their stances.

Two issues which I didn’t take lightly in this read were religion and morality. Not only were my feelings put to the test throughout the read, but I also had my doubts as to whether or not either of the protagonists would be able to find light at the end of the tunnel. It was most certainly going to be an extremely hard and distressing ride for all.

Quote: Evangeline ~ “…I want to die knowing that I didn’t live in fear but that I lived life to the fullest with no regrets. I don’t want to feel guilty about being true to myself.”

Sevin Montgomery’s deceased father’s friend informs him of his father’s wishes. Out of the immense love and respect he had for him, he seriously considers taking up an offer. However, the chance for a new life has strings attached. And a very unconventional proposal it is, too. Although it saddens him to leave his step-brothers behind, there’s nothing else holding him back as his relationship with his highly religious step-mother had been strained for years. Before packing his bags, he meets his pretty wife-to-be, Elle, and a long distance courtship begins.

Quote: Elle ~ “…I truly believe becoming your wife is God’s will for me.”

Courting a naïve lass who, like him, had had a strict religious upbringing, meant Sevin would have to abide by Elle’s parents’ rules. Intimacy in any shape or form was out of bounds before tying the knot. Sevin is far from innocent. He’d sinned and he will again. And not with whom you think.

Quote: Evangeline ~ “Honestly? This. Right now. Being here…is my deepest darkest secret.”

Albeit unjustly painted rebellious by her parents, Evangeline has a beautiful soul and worries about hurting a certain member of her family. Riddled with guilt, this young woman fights against her desires, and well-knows that her feelings for someone who has already been taken is morally wrong. Yearning to be her own woman insofar as such an austere household allowed, made my connection with her deepen. Then we lose track of her, and I could only guess the worst. Not even her dearest friend, Adelaide, who she’d always confided in, knew of her whereabouts. What Evangeline considered to be correct, had disastrous results. And oh my god, did I have to grab for a man-size handkerchief tout de suite.

Quote: Sevin ~ “…I wish I f**king hated you, Evangeline. I’d give anything. I wish I could rid you from my heart, but you are my f**king heart.”

How could I not fall for Sevin! It was a pleasure observing him mature from a young adult to a man with a strong personality. How he coped with all the upheavals, made me weep for him. And when he finds solace in religion, I was taken aback considering everything he been through.

Quote: Sevin ~ “I’ll never forgive her.”
Adelaide ~ I’m not saying you should forget, but you need to ask God to help you forgive.”

From the very first moment they set eyes on each other, their attraction was—well, the only way that I can describe it is that I could feel the magnetism filter through the pages! An impossible love flourishes between Sevin and Evangeline and as I don’t won’t to spoil their story for you, I shall say no more about it. But what I will say is this. Although I really enjoyed this read, it only seemed to pick up the pace I needed about a third way in, but on reflection, perhaps I was a little too eager to get to the crux of matter. The occurrence of one tragedy after another left me utterly spent. It seemed that my broken-heart could take no more, but believe you me, I had to adhere to what would become my keyword, forgiveness. The bitter-sweet finale likened to one of Shakespeare’s dramas fast-forwarded in time. In fact, the epilogue was beyond my expectations. Beyond perfect. I loved both points of view told in past tenses; the faultless grammar and flowing dialogue. The secondary characters were extremely well-developed, Addy being my favourite. Masterfully written Ms Ward. Bravo!

Last word: I read this book twice before writing the review. Something I have never done before.

Chelsea spent most of her life running.

She was young when her parents were killed, and she was thrown into the system as just another statistic. One foster home after another, hell after hell. When things got too hard, her first instinct was to get out and fast.

She didn’t mind being a club girl. Who wouldn’t want a group of possessive alpha males on your side and in your bed? The freedom and the lifestyle allowed her to spread her wings while the rules and bylaws kept everyone in line. It was comfortable – safe.

But while her head told her she was happy, her heart reminded her constantly of what she really wanted – Brothers by Blood President, Optimus. He was a brooding asshole who was sexy, loyal and pushed the boundaries of both her body and her mind. He never let her all the way in, but she still couldn’t stay away from him – he was addictive.

Optimus had only one rule – family comes first.

He knew that sometimes sacrifices needed to be made in order to keep the ones he loved safe. He’d done it before and he would do it again.

Being President of the Brothers by Blood MC meant he couldn’t show any weakness. His feelings for Chelsea were off the charts, but so far he’d managed to hide them and keep her at an arm’s length thinking he was protecting her. Beautiful, athletic and sassy, she wasn’t just another club girl, she was HIS girl.

Danger is fast approaching and Chelsea is in its direct sight. Will it be too late for Optimus to show Chelsea how he really feels? And when secrets are revealed will Chelsea stay and stand beside the man she wants or will the urge to run just be too strong?

Review by Claire Rose on behalf of KFF

Claire has award this read  5 sublime stars

First and foremost, you need to one click this absolutely fantastic book. Twists, turns and secrets brought tears to my eyes rooting for the alpha men and a very special heroine. I do hope my review does this novel justice as I was literally blown away by this story told in present tense with the protagonists’ points of view. Even though this can be read as a standalone, I really do suggest reading book one first as you will get more of an idea of the story and its characters.

Wow — just wow! I LOVED IT. I have reviewed quite a few MC books, but this is on a whole new level. Looking at the gals’ we love to hate perspective for messing with our bikers has in fact, made me understand why they become club girls. Not everyone of them expects to become an ol’ lady or have their HEA.

Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea! What a strong and beautiful character. After her mother and father were murdered, she was thrown into the foster care system and had a rough time growing up. Then she found her way into the MC life as a club girl with no expectations. All the club wanted to do was protect her, put her through college and give her the family she had never had. Chelsea is the one for the prez. Everyone inside the club knows how they feel about each other, yet he won’t claim her. He is trying to protect her as her life is in danger in a big way. She has a flashback in time. She knows what she must do. Run!

Optimus is the club’s president and just how I like my MC men! Strong and one-hundred percent alpha; however, he’s riddled with guilt from his past which will soon to be revealed. He has strong feelings for one of the club girls, Chelsea. In spite of the fact that he keeps pushing her away, he won’t let anyone else near her. He’s also hiding a secret from her and only time will tell before she finds out. The club’s trying to figure out why and by whom her life has been put in peril, and therefore he reaches a harsh decision. I quite agreed with the club’s stance regarding Optimus’ wrongdoing and I got so damn mad with him. Screaming out loud at my Kindle didn’t help matters, either. I found all the pulling and pushing, him blowing hot and cold, totally exhausting. So much so that I could have jumped into the book and slapped the f***er!

Quote: Chelsea ~ “I can’t do it, Op. I can’t sit around and pretend like every thing’s fine. I can’t pretend that I’m okay seeing you every day and knowing I can’t touch you. It hurts, Op. It hurts so bad.”
Optimus ~ “I can’t …”
Chelsea ~ “Let me go”
Optimus ~ “I can’t …”

Living outside the club’s protection, Chelsea tries to patch her broken heart. But her life takes a nasty turn making Optimus realise his ginormous mistake and only hopes its not too late. Whooo hooo! Sharon has finally read my all-time favourite series! As Sharon says in her review, I have been insisting she reads these books for quite some time! Did I worry that she wouldn’t love them as much as I do? No way! I knew she’d love Gabriel and Julianne as much as I do. I don’t think I’ve ever received as many messages from her swooning over Gabriel and then the next minute, panicking about what she’d read! Don’t you just love it when your book buddy loves your treasured books as much as you? This is the reason Sharon and I read and review together as we love the same kind of books. So without further ado, take it away Sharon and tell us all what you thought of Gabriel and Julianne’s story *applause*.

They do say better late than never and this can most certainly be applied to my discovery of whom has become one of my best-loved authors. If it wasn’t for my sister-in-arms’ insistence who runs Kindle Friends Forever book blog with me, I would still be oblivious to the fact that SR writes exceptionally well. I could feign ignorance and even blame time; however, with so many good books to review, I just never got around to reading the series. I read the books consecutively, l was sleep deprived and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. You may ask why I decided to review the last book and not the others. The answer is quite simple. I was overwhelmed with the metamorphosis in Gabriel’s character and please don’t misinterpret me, I adored him in book one and two, besotted in this one.

Gabriel ~ “I want to see your naked skin glow in the moonlight while I’m inside of you.”

The author has described the upheavals in the terms of two academics’ relationship, perfectly. In most cases, being in love is just not enough and even though Gabriel wanted a marriage made in heaven, the author went to great lengths to show his readers that it’s not a bed of roses. I’ll talk about the bed of roses later as there are more stolen kisses in this read than in the two previous books. Gabriel knew if he didn’t face his past, it could come back with a vengeance. He had to learn to share his fears, learn to respect his partner’s decisions, learn to be more generous with his own spirit and overcome his jealousy. He had a marvellous teacher, Julia. His Beatrice. Harvard professor elite in his field and highly respected among other Dante specialists, he now has to adapt to married life. Not an easy feat for one that has pleased himself at a whim over the years. He agonizes about his past immensely, his sufferance affecting what appeared to me to be a solid bond with Julia, puts a strain on both of them in more ways than one. When there’s a will…, I was delighted that he decided to stop a bad habit, but he’s unduly protective of his wife which only adds to more frustration. He is sure his reasons are valid though. Those very reasons are entwined into the plot making this read par-excellence.

Gabriel ~ “Every night when I fall asleep her in my arms, I thank God she’s mine. Every morning when I wake up, my first thought is that I’m grateful she married me. I will never be worthy of her. But I spend every day trying my damnedest…”

The subject of having children is without a doubt, the backbone of this story. And although this causes friction between Gabriel and Julia, after much discussion, he is prepared to wait until she finishes her studies. Fortunate in being adopted my two people that loved him unconditionally, he revisits an orphanage in the birthplace of Dante, Florence, hoping to find peace of mind. By doing good deeds might give him what he craves for, God’s forgiveness. While observing him interacting with the children, she understands how he feels about his need to start a family. She questions herself. Is she being selfish because she wants to finish her studies? Is he prepared to support her wishes regardless? This is when I saw the new Gabriel.

Gabriel ~ “Don’t cry my sweet girl. You’re my Beatrice and my sticky little leaf and my beautiful wife. I’m sorry I’ve been such a bastard. I wanted to show you how important you are to me. You are my precious masterpiece.”

Julia; Julianne, Beatrice—Dante’s inspiration, the woman who Gabriel can’t envisage living a life without. She is much younger than her husband and so gifted. Not only is her intelligence admired by her husband, try having a coherent conversation with a man who is a polyglot and constantly quotes Dante in Italian among other poets was much to my delight, splendid! Shakespeare’s Othello was not beyond her knowledge. She gave back what she was given with style and humour and this never ceased to surprise him. I must say how much I enjoyed reading these quotes without being ‘modernised’ for want of a better word. This woman is quintessential. She calms troubled waters; her honesty and her beliefs outshine throughout the story and without her, he well knows that he won’t be the new Gabriel he’s yearning for.

Julianne ~ “You can’t eliminate your past but you don’t have to be controlled by it.”

The secondary characters are as well developed as are the leading ones. Rachel, Gabriel’s sister and Julia’s best friend has her own cross to bear. She married her childhood sweetheart, Aaron, their problems with fertility making my heart break in two for a couple who deserved to be parents. I really felt that the author could have given them a little more attention towards the end, but on reflection, it wasn’t their story. I had already connected to Gabriel’s father in the first book and his wisdom never faltered. It abounds in this book as he’ll be the one to encourage his son to find his roots. I couldn’t possibly not forget to mention Christa. Messages between my book buddy who is an expert in this series, flew across the globe at lightning speed. Christa wasn’t a case of a woman scorned either. Spurred on by her desire for revenge against the only man who had refused her, actually has its comeuppance. And I shouted hooray out loud! Julia’s ex is still in the loop and never in a million years could I believe what I was reading. I thanked small blessings for Julianne’s uncle, Jack, here. Since the aforementioned person and one of his former lovers had really been a thorn in her side, I asked myself  if her uncle would be able to address this problem with his adroit skills more than once.

Katherine Picton. What an outstanding character, what an incredibly important part she played in this story. English, professor in the art of language interpretation and of course, Dante. Her stance I welcomed with open arms when events reached its crescendo.

Katherine ~ “Now, I hope I’ll be invited to your house when I give my lecture series at Harvard in January. Greg Matthews always takes me to these appalling molecular gastronomy restaurants that serve deconstructed entrees cooked in liquid nitrogen. I can never decide whether I’m having dinner or sitting an exam in organic chemistry.”

I have to comment on the author’s wordmanship which I found so incandescent. Up until about two thirds into the book, it had been very old fashioned. Proper, correct and with academic finesse and flair. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Gabriel was using phrasal verbs. Brilliant. Quite brilliant! Now then, before summing up, the subject of religion and matrimonial scenes has to be raised. This is by far a much sexier read than the other two. Gabriel gives Julia confidence in the bedroom. He makes her feel beautiful and wants to please her by sharing his sexual expertise; Julia literally flowers. She wants to learn, make him happy, too. And by god, does she. They can’t keep their hands of each other and this detail, for me, was really important to the structure of the story. This showed me that this doesn’t have to be an issue when religion, faith and the love of any deity is bound by the most natural act in the world. In this aspect, utmost care was taken not to offend and I honestly salute the author. Furthermore, faith is for them, a basic necessity. Julia had it, Gabriel found it. I thought I would be lost for words, and even though I had no my intentions of reviewing; here you have my honest opinion. Sylvain Reynard, your book is a masterpiece I will endeavour to reread if the god’s above me give me a break! Bravisimo!

Rachel here again! Wasn’t that an amazing review! If Sharon hasn’t convinced you to one-click this book, I don’t know what will! As you can tell from the review, Sharon adored this book and rightly so. Just before we go, I’d just like to leave you with another quote. It’s a dirty one but then this is Professor Emerson…

Gabriel ~ “You smell like sex.”
Julianne ~ “That’s why I’m not taking a shower. We had incredible make up sex, which I’d like to remember.”

I am honoured to have had my novels appear on the New York Times and USAToday Bestseller lists.

I was a Semifinalist for Best Author in the 2011 and 2012 Goodreads Choice Awards. “Gabriel’s Inferno” was a Semifinalist for Best Romance in 2011 and “Gabriel’s Rapture” was a Finalist for Best Romance in 2012, in the Goodreads Choice Awards, as well. The final novel in The Gabriel Series, “Gabriel’s Redemption,” debuted at #6 on the New York Times Bestseller list. It was a Finalist for a 2014 Goodreads Choice Award as Best Romance.

I’m interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition – particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I’m also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

I try to use my platform as an author to raise awareness about the following charities: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation, WorldVision, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and Covenant House. For more information, see my Charities page.
