The Missing- Volume I- Illusions

Concrete floor…

Dirty windows…

Impenetrable shadows….

Where am I?

Days bleed into one another and I know I’m trapped.  A prisoner.

But why?

I have no answers and no one to give them to me.  Only the silence and the dark.

Except for the song.

The words tell a story that I wish I could forget.

About a girl who didn’t run fast enough.

A forgotten girl…

A lost girl…

A girl no one would miss…

Readers can learn more about The Missing as well as gather clues and information about the upcoming series throughout the summer by visiting the Find Nora website!

Few clues in the disappearance of Nora Gilbert

Nora Gilbert has been missing for two weeks and police are baffled over the lack of evidence. Nora disappeared from a very busy part of town well before dark. Many people were at Waverly Park at the time she went missing, yet eyewitnesses are few.

One eyewitness claims to have seen Nora at the southern entrance to the park near the wooded picnic area. However, the lack of forensic evidence leaves the police with little to go on.

She was expecting to meet her friend, Maren Laughlin around 7:45. Police want to speak with Maren about the night in question and are appealing for her to contact them as soon as possible.

Nora has several identifying marks including a recent tattoo of a red and black infinity on top of her left foot like the one below. The skin is still red and swollen and was covered with a bandage when she left home.

Our family is looking for any and all information. If you believe you saw something on the night in question, please contact the Blackfield Police Department- 555- 6677

Meet Dominic Esposito, US Marshall, profiler and a hard as nails sort of guy with dark disturbing tastes. He tracks down the deadliest escaped criminals. He’s man of honor devoted and to his job, upholding the law at all costs.

Pretty redheaded Shauna Maloney, a high profile fashion model is being stalked. But her stalker is an escaped madman. She’s worth millions and her life is at stake. She’s not one of Esposito’s favorite people, she represents everything he holds unholy, overindulgences, wealth and fame.

They say hate is the closest emotion to love. Will the fiery redhead win over the U.S. Marshal and submit to his darkest desires? Or will her deep sexual cravings surprise even him.

✦✦ KFF’s 5 ★ Review by Tracey Lou Parker✦✦

Again I was looking forward to delving into the mind of poet and author, Ethan Radcliff, and more so as this would be the first full-length novel of his that I was about to read.

This story depicts the life of a U.S. Marshal and a former New York City police officer, Dominic Esposito, and the lady in his life, Shauna Maloney. As a U.S marshal, many of his duties include being responsible for prisoner transport, the protection of officers of the court, and the marshal’s service which runs the witness protection program.

Dominic Esposito is forty-five years old, born to an Italian mother and father and lives for his job. As a young child, he had always wanted to be a cop. He believed in justice, respect and a code of honour. The perfect requirements for the job he does.

One ex-wife who after twenty years, decided she wanted out. He’s spent years putting his own feelings aside making his wife happy; to give his son a stable home. Now his son is old enough, it’s time for him to move on and explore.

Shauna Maloney is beautiful. This sexy redhead owns her own dress shop; is totally open about her sexual appetite, her kinkiness. She’s helping Dominic explore a side of himself that he had always known was there but was afraid to act upon. Shauna is a submissive and Dominic has a dominant nature, so their two worlds would collide perfectly.

Throughout this book, Dominic is involved in two cases. One babysitting a gangster called Charlie who is giving evidence and needing protection.
The second case shows you how Dominic’s mind works as a profiler. Gathering evidence and witness testimony to determine a behaviour pattern, as well as developing a physiological portrait of the perpetrator is what he loves doing best. Yes, I confess to being a fan of Criminal Minds!
Dominic’s natural instinct for this was spot on and the criminal involved was eventually apprehended but not without consequences.

There is a part of this book that I haven’t gone into too much detail about. This involves the wellbeing of Shauna whose safety has been compromised by a gentleman that has taken a liking to her. As a reviewer, I like to leave something for the reader. But be aware… the twist and turns of this book will keep you entranced from beginning to end.

Ethan Radcliff. A full length novel, in my opinion, will bring out the best in an author. You didn’t disappoint. Your story flows well, the subject of BDSM; perfectly inserted. You have shown me that you are more than knowledgeable about law enforcement which comes across perfectly. Thank you for a most enjoyable read. I look forward to reading more of your works. Five well-deserved stars .

” I suppose you’re going to turn me over your knee and spank me?” He could see the fire in her eyes and he was aware that her statement was a challenge.

“Are you putting ideas in my head?” he said running his hand down her slender throat to the top of her full breast. “Stop trying to get involved in the case I’m working on. I told you this case is definitely off limits. You never listen.”

“Did it ever occur to you that maybe I could be of some help to you?”

“Do you want to help me?” His voice was low and sadistic. One of his hands cupped her breast, she gasped. His thumb rubbed the nipple though the flimsy bra she wore. “You know what I like,” he said moving his body in on hers. “You’re fine Shauna, the best piece of ass I’ve ever had, but this relationship has boundaries and that boundary is my job. Do you understand?”

“Fuck you, Esposito,” she whispered.

He was fast and strong. She was over his knees in record time. One hand held her down and the other tore at her panties. Before she could protest, his large strong hand came down on the cheeks of her ass. Whack!

“Ouch! I was kidding you bastard!” she screamed.

“I’m not,” he said as he grinned and felt the blood rush down to the base of his cock. “In fact I’m rather enjoying this.” His hand came down hard again.

“Ouch!” she screamed again. “Stop, Dominic stop.”

“First tell me you’re going to stay out of my business. You knew I was a U.S. Marshal when we met. I read you the riot act. Yet you defy me at every turn.”

He ran his other hand over the red marks on her cheeks. She moaned. His fingers massaged her gently and then found the crevice to her pussy. She moaned again.

“Oh, shit Dominic, oh shit,” she said as two of his finger entered her. She raised her ass and his fingers pushed into her deeper. He bent his head and kissed the red marks his hands had left. She spread her legs.

✦✦Ethan Radcliff✦✦

Ethan Radcliff has been writing stories since he was a kid. He loves creating and tried his hand at art, but felt he wasn’t good enough. Through high school he wrote erotic stories,

kept them in a notebook and let a few of his girlfriends read them. He then began writing poetry, which he kept to himself, because most of his poems were based on erotica. His brain never stopped. He became serious about writing erotic romance stories a few years ago and wondered how hard it would be to break through the barrier as a male erotic romance writer.

He delved into the world of BDSM and took a personal journey through the lifestyle, which aided in his writing.

He’d been a face book user for years. He never saw anything interesting until he began to see all the writers and then some poets posting their erotic prose. Men who were writing erotic romance began to crop up. He watched and then began to post a few poems here and there. The response was good and then better. He was being noticed.

He can see a picture and write a poem. He can see an attractive women and conger up a sexy scenario. The jiggle of a full ass or heavy breasts can get him going. His mind is always is on an attractive face or body.

His thanks go out to Bitten Press LLC and the two lovely women who run it, for goading him on, telling him to go for it and he did.

His first short story is The Taming of Molly Jenkins. It’s hot. Is it based on personal experience? All he can answer is, perhaps. The next short story is The Wait, Britt’s undoing. There will be more. He has a paranormal erotic romance series, Desires of Blood which at the moment is six books strong. Stay tuned for some historical, contemporary and fantasy erotica from him. Yes, and he will continue with some great stories including some BDSM adventures. He has one book of erotic poetry published; it has been an amazing success.

Follow Ethan Radcliff as he continues to entertain you. He can write any genre and intends to broaden his scope as an author in 2015.

His thanks go out to all his readers. Without them he’d be still be writing notes in his composition notebook, waiting for that right moment. You made it happen for him.

Age: New Adult

Anna is a beautiful Ph.D. student whose older brother is a notorious badass in the Wind Dragons MC. Of course she loves Rake, who’s looked out for her since their troubled childhood. And Rake’s made it clear that his biker brothers are trouble of the worst kind, and strictly off-limits. But one of these tattooed bad boys has already pierced her heart: Arrow, the bearded, darkly brooding rider with the body of a Greek God and eyes that betray a wounded soul. He’s sent to whisk her off campus on his thundering steel stallion. And when Anna wraps her arms around his rock-hard torso, it’s too late for caution: she’ll ride as far as the road takes them—unless Rake stops Arrow in his flight. . . .

KFF’s 4.5 ★ review by Claire Rose

Let’s start by saying I just loved Dragon’s Lair. Therefore, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this novel, and was over the moon to be given the opportunity to receive and review this ARC. The events in this book have taken place five years after Dragon’s Lair, so please read book one.

Chantal has written a fantastic story that pulls on your heartstrings. The characters in this novel are all about family, caring, loving, and most importantly, always have each other’s back. There doesn’t come a time where you don’t feel the love flowing through this book, and I found myself smiling or laughing at many points in this read.

The prologue starts us off with Arrow having a serious think about what’s happened in his life. So he is trying to drown his sorrows with a bottle of whiskey. In walks his MC brother and his baby sister. Instantly Arrow is having feelings for the young Anna; feelings he doesn’t want. My poor darling Arrow! He is a strong, sexy, dominant, and a fun loving male who is fighting his demons while at the same time, fighting his attraction for Anna. Until events occur putting Anna in danger and placing her at the protection of the club house. Arrow decides to stop pushing Anna away; however, he ends up hurting her with the quilt of the past. And Janet is trying her hardest to cause a few problems for the both of them which doesn’t help matters. With secrets that only he knows, will he lose the one woman for him? Can he hold on, or will he succumb to the darkness again?

Anna! What a strong, feisty, independent young woman. She knows who she wants, what she wants, and can’t stand being told what to do. She’s brought into the MC world when she moves back home to her brother who belongs to the Wind Dragons MC. While trying to accept her new MC family, her brother’s relationship with the other members of the club is causing jealous emotions hard to control. She’s also fighting her strong feelings for Arrow. Looking into his eyes, she can see the lust he has for her, so why is he pushing her away… hurting her? When she overhears her brother’s and Arrow’s conversation, suddenly she feels very confused. She realises that there are secrets being kept from her. Hurt replaces the love she has, so she does the one thing she said she would never do. She runs! She runs to the somebody who holds all the answers. Answers that make her more confused, hurt, shocked and angry. I say confused because she doesn’t know what to think or feel. All Anna wanted was to finish college, rebuild her relationship with her brother and maybe fall in love. Can these two characters overcome everything? Can they put the past behind them and move forward? Read it and find out!

I loved all characters in this novel, and I do have to say that Chantal has developed Anna’s character to perfection. I loved the way she stands up for herself and won’t take any rubbish from anyone. The story is written well throughout; nevertheless, I felt that it was a little too rushed towards the end. I would have liked more detail about what happened to Janet. So for this reason, I’ve rated the book four and half stars.

Meet Flynn and Lucky in this rock star romance!

From New York Times and USA Today Bestseller Vi Keeland comes a steamy new story about a rockstar. Or two.

Dimpled smile of a boy
Hard body of a man
Sings like an angel
Fucks like the devil

I was stuck between a rock(star) and a hard place.

At fifteen, his poster hung on my bedroom wall. At twenty-five his body hovered over mine. Every girl’s fantasy became my reality. I was dating a rockstar. Yet I was slowly falling for another man. The problem was—the two men—they shared a tour bus.

Flynn Beckham was the opening act.
Dylan Ryder was the headliner.

What happens when the opening act begins to shine so bright, it seems to dim everything else in its wake?

I’ll tell you what happens. Things get ugly.

Getting through Flynn singing is incredibly hard.  The way his throat moves, the way his mouth caresses each syllable of the low, raspy sound that falls from his lips.  I should be watching his posture, his breathing, the way his larynx forces out the words—but instead I’m focused on the beauty of his mouth and how the sound of his voice glides over my body, making it feel both warm and tingly at the same time.  I’m lost when the song finishes, yet I haven’t really observed him yet.

“So.  Give it to me straight.  What am I doing wrong?”

Ummm…absolutely nothing from what I can see.  Everything was perfect.  Don’t change a thing.  Shit.  “Could you do it again?  Maybe a different song, one you haven’t sung in a while.  So the sounds are less familiar to your body.  Sometimes that can give me a different view.”  At least I make it sound like a real thing when the words come out.

He sings again, and this time I force myself to observe.  “Hmm…your posture is great.  Most people have a tendency to favor one side of their neck, which makes them tilt a bit when they speak, and it becomes magnified when they sing, which puts strain on the muscles around the vocal cords.  Your alignment is perfect.”

“Thank you, it goes with the rest of my perfectness,” he says with a teasing arrogance that, from the little I know about him, I know isn’t real.

“You didn’t let me finish.”

“You can’t now tell me I’m not perfect.  I was already basking in the glow.”

“Actually, it was perfect…but almost a little too perfect.  Which makes me think you don’t usually stand this way when you sing.”

“It isn’t the way I normally sing.  On stage, I usually have a guitar over my shoulder.  Even if I’m not playing it, it’s there.”

“Well, I need to see you holding your instrument to assess you fully, then.”

Flynn’s eyebrows quirk up and the dirty grin on his face is unmistakable.

“The guitar.  I’d need to see you holding the guitar.

“That’s a shame.”  He shrugs, the playful smile still on his face.  “But okay.  It’s your call.  Whatever instrument you want to see me hold is fine with me.”

“How big of you.”

“So now we’re talking about the other instrument again?”

I roll my eyes, although this conversation is having more of an effect on me than I let on.

Reviewed by Rachel McEwan and Sharon Thérèse Nuttall for KFF

One might have their doubts about an issue which will be the backbone of this story; however, it exists and has been written in such a way that neither of us were in the slightest bit affected or concerned about it. In fact, the storyline and character development is so strong that this was an unputdownable read. We both put a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door knob, abandoned all mundane chores, and threatened our families with no meals!

Lucky : ‘’He doesn’t leer. He appreciates. As if he’s looking at fine art that should be cherished.’’

The above quote has to be one of our favourites! Only we would definitely leer at Flynn Beckham then cherish; in that order. We loved Flynn’s personality in this book. We have to point out though that this read isn’t your typical bad boy rocker with a mouth that has no filter. Oh no, we get to see Flynn’s sensitive and caring side. Not only does Lucky experience this side of his personality, but she’s also introduced to Flynn’s niece, Laney who like us, adores her Uncle Flynn. Laney loves the Disney film, Frozen so much so that Flynn sings one of the songs from the film to Lucky and wow, we think that’s the moment we truly fell in love with him. We really didn’t think the combination of the lyrics to a Frozen song and a rocker book could quite be pulled off but Ms Keeland, you most certainly did !

What first caught our attention was the banter between Lucky and Avery who have been best friends forever. And even though they run a very successful business together, Avery isn’t at all enamoured with her bestie’s choice of boyfriend and with no holds barred, tells her what a douchebag he is. We just loved Avery’s honesty and the way she made it clear to Dylan Ryder, the lead singer in the band, Easy Ryder, what she thought of him, too. Well, he doesn’t care much for her either, so no love is lost there! What was a school girl crush for Lucky has been a reality for nearly a year. We never thought that it was façade, we never thought twice about whether false pretences or bad intentions were morally questionable. All these facets only seemed to make this read even more interesting. Nevertheless, when you read about their relationship, we’re sure your queries will abound.

Avery: ‘’That man wants you. Pretty sure you wouldn’t have to straddle the speaker. He’d bury his head and sing right into your vajajay if you wanted. I totally vote you upgrade in the rockstar category……’’

When one of the musicians has to drop out of the band’s tour because of personal problems, Pulse Records suggest that Mr. Drop-Dead-Lose-Your-Panties-Gorgeous lead singer in the band, ‘In Like Flynn’, takes his place. Regardless of the fact that Ryan grudgingly agrees, it makes sense as Flynn’s band is going to accompany Easy Ryder on the second-half of the tour. Ooh, we just love this author. She has a way of vividly describing all her characters’ personalities to a tee, and her ability to paint their physical appearance is undeniably brilliant. Okay, the book cover did influence us a tad, and for crying out loud, all we wanted to do was jump into the book and have our way with him lol!

Unbeknownst to Dylan, Lucky and Flynn had crossed paths before an important meeting. Blinkin’ heck! The first time they set eyes on each other is so damn hot, the sexual tension so thick, that it had us grabbing for my fan and texting each other like mad hatters! Humorous innuendos had us constantly chuckling to ourselves and as usual, the author deftly dangled the carrot in front of our noses. So what did we do? We read this page-flipping book in one day and it’s not a short read!

Flynn: ‘’You’ve been inside me since the day we met. It’s time I return the favour. Only I’m going to be much more literal.’’

We really have to add that we thought Flynn’s nonchalant attitude towards his career was fabulous. Every moment throughout the book, he has everything in perspective. His compassion for Lucky’s list of twelve steps she had promised to carry out to a dear person that is no longer by her side had us sniffling. If only it were possible to gift wrap this horrendously sensitive, loving, and sexy guy up in ‘our perfect man’ pack!

Flynn: ‘’I need you to choose. No more hiding. I want to kiss the hell out of you in public, whenever I want.’’

Saying that, the animosity between Dylan and Flynn is felt from the very beginning and you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. Here, the author has really gone to town detailing their antagonism. The stress of touring with a band from on city to another causes angst for all and believe you me, when things backfire, an omnishambles is on the horizon for more than one of them. The members of Easy Ryder have their quirks to put it lightly, but even so, they all play an important part in this smouldering, sizzling and gripping read. We really can’t express how I felt about the epilogue. To say it was awesome, would be an understatement. We’d love to quote from the epilogue but it would just give the ending away and we don’t want to do that. To fully experience the wide range of emotions this book evokes, we highly recommend you read it!

Ms Keeland, a request! Do add that new ‘super-naughty’ word of yours to the Urban dictionary! It didn’t click with me straight away, and I’m not sure if Rachel picked up on it; however, after quickly investigating, I realised where I had read it! Only you could have invented such coinage! Summing up Beat; it’s a fabulous read … BRAVO!

Overwhelming doesn’t seem to be enough to describe a book of this calibre and the mere fact that this read touched our hearts the way it did, meant reviewing it was going to be reliving every moment. I was looking at the screen but not looking. Rach texted me and said her thoughts were all over parts of the book. My thoughts were frozen. “Where the heck do we start?” I asked myself.

The Song of David is ultimately about a relationship between two best friends who are always there for each other through the worst possible situations. But what happens when one of them wants to go it alone to save the other from hurt? To truly understand this book, we highly recommend reading The Law of Moses first as it will not only help you to put everything into perspective regarding how their solid foundation was built, but also show you how together, they can withstand almost anything. You will be introduced to a couple we stole our hearts, too. So don’t fret if you choose to read TSOD first! The author has bent over backwards to make this read flow in harmony.

Moses ~ ‘’Before we left Montlake you asked me to keep you alive. You told me to knock you down, restrain you, whatever it took. Do you remember that ?’’
Tag ~ ‘’Yeah I remember.’’
Moses ~ ‘’I told you I would. And I intend to keep that promise.’’

And harmony… yeah, this is the word for the best couple of the year. Tag and Millie. Firstly, Tag! Ooh, you can’t help falling head over heels in love with him. His outlook on life after a very tragic circumstances has made him strong. A side effect of his past experiences makes him protect those he loves with a passion which is admirable. His Texan humour abounds, his concern for everyone’s well-being is what he does ‘cause he doesn’t know how to do it any other way. Actually, what drew us in was the way he underestimates himself constantly. He questions his self-worth. That said, his worth is high up on the scale for all who share his humble outlook on life. One way or another, Tag had saved them. That, folks, is what he does. Now he is a successful businessman running a gym, a bar and those he values are at his side. And more importantly, they are the ‘Tag Team’. Always there for this MMA fighter.

Tag ~ ‘’I couldn’t promise a future with no shit. I couldn’t even promise I wouldn’t cause some. I couldn’t alter my DNA, and I was sure I had strands that were soaked in the stuff. But I was bound and determined to shelter Millie from as much as I could.’’

Tag is predominantly the lady’s man, the player who loves to love ‘em but with a no strings attached rule. So when his barman draws his attention to a new pole-dancer, he is left doddering on the verge of perplexity. Whether or not the person that employs her has had honest intentions will be unravelled. Is it a fluke of luck… destiny playing games? When Tag finds out what has happened, he sees red since this fragile but strong young woman has warmed his heart.

Amelie, ‘Millie.’ Beautiful and wise beyond her years Millie. She has a handicap which most would think a disability. She certainly thinks otherwise. She doesn’t want Tag’s sorrowful commitment either. She wants a friend, and by God, she will have so much more than that. Ready to be bowled over by the most kind-hearted person who exists? Well do because this outstanding lady’ll take your breath away. These two are made in heaven. Both are cautious but for very different reasons. Tag wants to be certain he will not break Millie’s heart, but Millie is fearless and wants Tag to love her for who she is regardless of all the complications it brings with it. This is exactly why this read is worth its weight in gold. You connect, you live their ups and downs and their flirty banter. We felt honoured to be able to live their story.

Tag ~ ‘’I’ve been suffering for a while now, Millie.’’
Millie ~ ‘’You have ?’’
Tag ~ ‘’Since the moment I saw you. It devastated me. And I love when a girl devastates me.’’

Millie’s brother, Henry, is too much! What an adorable lad. He has his problems too and even though he isn’t capable of looking after himself, albeit under Millie’s wing, he is well taken care of. Under Tag’s wing, he flourishes. We really must mention how much investigation was obviously taken into his favourite subject which he readily quotes when he can’t express himself.

Millie ~ ‘’The darkness is huge, though. You don’t need to be afraid of the dark. Whenever you start feeling trapped or helpless, just close your eyes, and you have more space that you’ll ever need.’’

Finally, we have to mention the cassette tapes as this is fundamentally how this story has been told! Tag has to tell his story to his loved ones and comes up with the idea in sad circumstances. We cried while reading his innermost feelings. It is nothing less than heart-breaking so a few dozen man-sized hankies are a must. Ms. Harmon, you have written a masterpiece. How you outdid yourself in The Song of David is beyond our comprehension. David’s song, his story, will always be in our hearts. Bravo!

She said I was like a song. Her favorite song. A song isn’t something you can see. It’s something you feel, something you move to, something that disappears after the last note is played.

I won my first fight when I was eleven years old, and I’ve been throwing punches ever since. Fighting is the purest, truest, most elemental thing there is. Some people describe heaven as a sea of unending white. Where choirs sing and loved ones await. But for me, heaven was something else. It sounded like the bell at the beginning of a round, it tasted like adrenaline, it burned like sweat in my eyes and fire in my belly. It looked like the blur of screaming crowds and an opponent who wanted my blood.

For me, heaven was the octagon.

Until I met Millie, and heaven became something different. I became something different. I knew I loved her when I watched her stand perfectly still in the middle of a crowded room, people swarming, buzzing, slipping around her, her straight dancer’s posture unyielding, her chin high, her hands loose at her sides. No one seemed to see her at all, except for the few who squeezed past her, tossing exasperated looks at her unsmiling face. When they realized she wasn’t normal, they hurried away. Why was it that no one saw her, yet she was the first thing I saw?

If heaven was the octagon, then she was my angel at the center of it all, the girl with the power to take me down and lift me up again. The girl I wanted to fight for, the girl I wanted to claim. The girl who taught me that sometimes the biggest heroes go unsung and the most important battles are the ones we don’t think we can win.

This is David ‘Tag’ Taggert’s book, a supporting character introduced in The Law of Moses. This is a stand-alone story.

I stopped a foot from her and reached out, taking one of her hands in mine. “Do you like this song?” I asked. Obviously she did and obviously I was stupid.

“I love this song.”

“Me too,” I whispered. I reached for her other hand.

Accidental Babies.”

“What?” I tugged her hands gently, and she took a step. I was so close now that the top of her head provided a shelf for my chin, and Damien’s song was being drowned out by the sound of my heart.

“It’s another one of his songs. . . and I think I love it even more,” she whispered back.

“But that song is so sad,” I breathed, and laid my cheek against her hair.

“That’s what makes it beautiful. It’s devastating. I love it when a song devastates me.” Her voice was thready, as if she was struggling to breathe.

“Ah, the sweet kind of suffering.” I dropped her hands and wrapped my arms around her.

“The best kind.” Her voice hitched as our bodies aligned.

“I’ve been suffering for a while now, Millie.”

“You have?” she asked, clearly amazed.

“Since the moment I saw you. It devastated me. And I love when a girl devastates me.” I was using her definition of the word, but the truth was, my sister was the only girl who had ever devastated me, and it hadn’t been sweet agony.

“I’ve never devastated anyone before,” Millie said faintly, shock and pleasure coloring her words. She still stood with her arms at her sides, almost like she couldn’t believe what was happening. But her lips hovered close to my jaw, as if she was enjoying the tension between almost and not quite.

“I’m guessing you’ve left a wake of destruction,” I whispered. “You just don’t know.”

Finally, as if she couldn’t resist any longer, she raised her hands to my waist. Trembling fingers and flat palms slid across my abdomen, up my chest, past my shoulders, progressing slowly as if she memorized as she moved. Then she touched my face and her thumbs found the cleft in my chin, the way they’d done the first time she’d traced my smile. Hesitantly, she urged my face down toward hers. A heartbeat before our mouths touched she spoke, and the soft words fluttered against my lips.

“Are you going to devastate me, David?” she asked.

“God, I hope not,” I prayed aloud.

Anticipation dissolved the lingering space between us, and I pressed needy lips to her seeking mouth. And then we melded together, hands clinging, bodies surging, music moaning, dancing in the wreckage. Sweet, sweet, devastation.

“Too late . . .” I thought I heard her whisper.
