Meet Flynn and Lucky in this rock star romance!

From New York Times and USA Today Bestseller Vi Keeland comes a steamy new story about a rockstar. Or two.

Dimpled smile of a boy
Hard body of a man
Sings like an angel
Fucks like the devil

I was stuck between a rock(star) and a hard place.

At fifteen, his poster hung on my bedroom wall. At twenty-five his body hovered over mine. Every girl’s fantasy became my reality. I was dating a rockstar. Yet I was slowly falling for another man. The problem was—the two men—they shared a tour bus.

Flynn Beckham was the opening act.
Dylan Ryder was the headliner.

What happens when the opening act begins to shine so bright, it seems to dim everything else in its wake?

I’ll tell you what happens. Things get ugly.

Getting through Flynn singing is incredibly hard.  The way his throat moves, the way his mouth caresses each syllable of the low, raspy sound that falls from his lips.  I should be watching his posture, his breathing, the way his larynx forces out the words—but instead I’m focused on the beauty of his mouth and how the sound of his voice glides over my body, making it feel both warm and tingly at the same time.  I’m lost when the song finishes, yet I haven’t really observed him yet.

“So.  Give it to me straight.  What am I doing wrong?”

Ummm…absolutely nothing from what I can see.  Everything was perfect.  Don’t change a thing.  Shit.  “Could you do it again?  Maybe a different song, one you haven’t sung in a while.  So the sounds are less familiar to your body.  Sometimes that can give me a different view.”  At least I make it sound like a real thing when the words come out.

He sings again, and this time I force myself to observe.  “Hmm…your posture is great.  Most people have a tendency to favor one side of their neck, which makes them tilt a bit when they speak, and it becomes magnified when they sing, which puts strain on the muscles around the vocal cords.  Your alignment is perfect.”

“Thank you, it goes with the rest of my perfectness,” he says with a teasing arrogance that, from the little I know about him, I know isn’t real.

“You didn’t let me finish.”

“You can’t now tell me I’m not perfect.  I was already basking in the glow.”

“Actually, it was perfect…but almost a little too perfect.  Which makes me think you don’t usually stand this way when you sing.”

“It isn’t the way I normally sing.  On stage, I usually have a guitar over my shoulder.  Even if I’m not playing it, it’s there.”

“Well, I need to see you holding your instrument to assess you fully, then.”

Flynn’s eyebrows quirk up and the dirty grin on his face is unmistakable.

“The guitar.  I’d need to see you holding the guitar.

“That’s a shame.”  He shrugs, the playful smile still on his face.  “But okay.  It’s your call.  Whatever instrument you want to see me hold is fine with me.”

“How big of you.”

“So now we’re talking about the other instrument again?”

I roll my eyes, although this conversation is having more of an effect on me than I let on.

One might have their doubts about an issue which will be the backbone of this story; however, it exists and has been written in such a way that neither of us were in the slightest bit affected or concerned about it. In fact, the storyline and character development is so strong that this was an unputdownable read. We both put a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door knob, abandoned all mundane chores, and threatened our families with no meals!

Lucky : ‘’He doesn’t leer. He appreciates. As if he’s looking at fine art that should be cherished.’’

The above quote has to be one of our favourites! Only we would definitely leer at Flynn Beckham then cherish; in that order. We loved Flynn’s personality in this book. We have to point out though that this read isn’t your typical bad boy rocker with a mouth that has no filter. Oh no, we get to see Flynn’s sensitive and caring side. Not only does Lucky experience this side of his personality, but she’s also introduced to Flynn’s niece, Laney who like us, adores her Uncle Flynn. Laney loves the Disney film, Frozen so much so that Flynn sings one of the songs from the film to Lucky and wow, we think that’s the moment we truly fell in love with him. We really didn’t think the combination of the lyrics to a Frozen song and a rocker book could quite be pulled off but Ms Keeland, you most certainly did !

What first caught our attention was the banter between Lucky and Avery who have been best friends forever. And even though they run a very successful business together, Avery isn’t at all enamoured with her bestie’s choice of boyfriend and with no holds barred, tells her what a douchebag he is. We just loved Avery’s honesty and the way she made it clear to Dylan Ryder, the lead singer in the band, Easy Ryder, what she thought of him, too. Well, he doesn’t care much for her either, so no love is lost there! What was a school girl crush for Lucky has been a reality for nearly a year. We never thought that it was façade, we never thought twice about whether false pretences or bad intentions were morally questionable. All these facets only seemed to make this read even more interesting. Nevertheless, when you read about their relationship, we’re sure your queries will abound.

Avery: ‘’That man wants you. Pretty sure you wouldn’t have to straddle the speaker. He’d bury his head and sing right into your vajajay if you wanted. I totally vote you upgrade in the rockstar category……’’

When one of the musicians has to drop out of the band’s tour because of personal problems, Pulse Records suggest that Mr. Drop-Dead-Lose-Your-Panties-Gorgeous lead singer in the band, ‘In Like Flynn’, takes his place. Regardless of the fact that Ryan grudgingly agrees, it makes sense as Flynn’s band is going to accompany Easy Ryder on the second-half of the tour. Ooh, we just love this author. She has a way of vividly describing all her characters’ personalities to a tee, and her ability to paint their physical appearance is undeniably brilliant. Okay, the book cover did influence us a tad, and for crying out loud, all we wanted to do was jump into the book and have our way with him lol!

Unbeknownst to Dylan, Lucky and Flynn had crossed paths before an important meeting. Blinkin’ heck! The first time they set eyes on each other is so damn hot, the sexual tension so thick, that it had us grabbing for my fan and texting each other like mad hatters! Humorous innuendos had us constantly chuckling to ourselves and as usual, the author deftly dangled the carrot in front of our noses. So what did we do? We read this page-flipping book in one day and it’s not a short read!

Flynn: ‘’You’ve been inside me since the day we met. It’s time I return the favour. Only I’m going to be much more literal.’’

We really have to add that we thought Flynn’s nonchalant attitude towards his career was fabulous. Every moment throughout the book, he has everything in perspective. His compassion for Lucky’s list of twelve steps she had promised to carry out to a dear person that is no longer by her side had us sniffling. If only it were possible to gift wrap this horrendously sensitive, loving, and sexy guy up in ‘our perfect man’ pack!

Flynn: ‘’I need you to choose. No more hiding. I want to kiss the hell out of you in public, whenever I want.’’

Saying that, the animosity between Dylan and Flynn is felt from the very beginning and you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. Here, the author has really gone to town detailing their antagonism. The stress of touring with a band from on city to another causes angst for all and believe you me, when things backfire, an omnishambles is on the horizon for more than one of them. The members of Easy Ryder have their quirks to put it lightly, but even so, they all play an important part in this smouldering, sizzling and gripping read. We really can’t express how I felt about the epilogue. To say it was awesome, would be an understatement. We’d love to quote from the epilogue but it would just give the ending away and we don’t want to do that. To fully experience the wide range of emotions this book evokes, we highly recommend you read it!

Ms Keeland, a request! Do add that new ‘super-naughty’ word of yours to the Urban dictionary! It didn’t click with me straight away, and I’m not sure if Rachel picked up on it; however, after quickly investigating, I realised where I had read it! Only you could have invented such coinage! Summing up Beat; it’s a fabulous read … BRAVO!
