FIVE MAGIC STARS
So this is the third and final instalment and I was looking forward to this as we were left with a cliffhanger in part two. I really wondered what was next for Jake Harrison and Haven Daniels. I was expecting a lot of angst and a rollercoaster for two people that I felt inevitably belonged together.
Jake has flown out to California with the knowledge of news that could rock the boat for a future with Haven. He doesn’t answer her calls as he feels that what he needs to discuss with her should be done face to face, not on the telephone. So he decides to wait until he gets back home to talk to her. Jake is back in the airport waiting for his luggage, and thinking about how he’ll be able to deal with the news he’d received before he left. When his phone rings and he is dealt yet another blow, how on earth is he going to tell Haven?
Quote ~ Beth: “I’m going to book my ticket for later today, and you have things to do here. You need to talk to Haven.”
Jake goes to see Haven, his beautiful girl who he doesn’t want to hurt as he has deep feelings for her. It is evident they missed each other. They go out to dinner to catch up.
Quote ~ Jake: “Millie called me just after I left you on Tuesday.”
Haven: “On your way to the airport?” “What did she want?”
I am not going to tell you what she wanted! You will have to read to find out! All I will tell you is this. Haven makes a self-discovery of what she wants from her future with her employment and Jake. What does the future hold?
Again we are offered angst, hotness and a real rollercoaster of events and I wondered where it was leading up to. What I will say is at one point I was guessing the outcome as it seemed similar to what I had read before. However, I was fooled by Louise’s style here. I always expect the unexpected with this lady’s stories and as normal, I was truly hit with a real twist that I never saw coming, that totally had me wanting to throttle a couple of characters!
Quote ~ Jake: “I want you, Haven.”
Haven: “I want you, too.”
These two have become my favourite couple from Louise’s books even though I do love them all. But this series in my opinion, has blown the rest of my favourite author’s works out of the water, and that is really saying something considering. Yet again, I got to see the supporting characters in Beth who is Jake’s sister and Haven’s best friend, Ashley. It is so refreshing to see side characters with such developed personalities. I’m hoping we have not seen the last of any of them. Well done Louise with another big hit. The first part for me was Magic, the second I had Anticipation. The third part you came along and Turn my World Around!

Haven had thought she was wrong about Jake, but apparently she should have trusted her instincts. He wasn’t the man she thought he was. The chink that Jake managed to put in her armor has healed over. She’s shut down and as far as she’s concerned, it’s all business between them from now on.
Thrown together on another assignment, anger, frustration and jealousy are at the forefront of Jake’s emotions. Will Jake convince Haven that he really cares or will he let her go as she insists he must?
What the Lighting Sees – Part Two – is the second part in a three part novella series.

We see the return of Haven Daniels and Jake “Harry” Harrison, and we discover where the pair go from the last instalment. Haven let down her guard only to believe it was all a façade on Jake’s part. Believing that she was played, Haven builds up her walls and wants nothing to do with him. However, he tries his hardest to talk to her and find out what she heard and why she ran off like she did.
Quote ~ “I need to understand why she is so upset, what she heard.” “I need to talk to her.”
Unfortunately, as Haven has spectacularly closed out Jake. Things are made awkward when they are forced to work on another assignment for the magazine Rallegra, and as it’ll be Jake’s last assignment before he goes back to running his own company fulltime, another photographer is appointed. This new assignment has Jake virtually foaming at the mouth and causes feelings he isn’t used to dealing with.
Quote ~ Jake: “Let’s get out of here.” “Please don’t fight me on this, Haven.”
Quote~ Haven: “I’m not fighting you, Jake.” “I told you that I trust you.”
The story moves on and we see Haven and Jake coming to grips with their possible misunderstanding, and also shows us some pretty hot scenes between the two. Although I couldn’t help thinking there was something else getting ready to hit them just around the corner.
I loved the return of Beth, Jake’s sister, who shows such strength and character; notwithstanding the fact that she has her own battles to conquer. This reminded me a bit like Jake’s conscience which had me chuckling. He certainly can’t fool his sister! Ash made an appearance who is Haven’s best friend, and also Jenny Haven’s work colleague who helped out with the assignment. I was a bit disappointed we only briefly saw Luke, Haven’s elder brother. Nevertheless, thinking about it, I would say it’s more about how Haven and Jake deal with the fallout from the end of book one.
The way the story is written not only made me feel strongly for the two protagonist’s intensity, but also shows how good the writing is when you enjoy the supporting characters so much. I am really hoping we get more of their own stories in the future as there’s certainly a lot of scope there.
Yet again Louise has left me kind of hanging when a massive curveball was thrown in. I never saw that coming, and despite having to wait a bit to see how this is going to end, I can give a clue… There is definitely going to be a bumpy road ahead with lots of angst thrown in. Louise, a huge well done! Another hit from you and I have every faith you’ll make it right between Jake and Haven. I have no doubt that you’re going to torture me right up until the end, too! As always, a playlist has been included and in the word of Carly Simon; “Anticipation.”
Jake Harrison is everything that Haven Daniels hates about men: over-confident, born into money and too handsome for his own good. Haven finds it difficult to keep her opinions to herself and can’t help but tell Jake exactly what she thinks of him, again and again.
Haven Daniels is uptight, smart and a bit of a bitch – the perfect challenge for Jake. It doesn’t hurt that she’s movie star beautiful and has no idea.
Forced to work together, verbal sparring turns into sexual chemistry but men like Jake are trouble and Haven has had enough trouble to last her a lifetime.
Will Haven give into Jake’s charms? Can Jake peel off Haven’s prickly mask, revealing the woman he knows lies beneath?
