Six years ago, Amber fled her hometown and family heart broken and humiliated. Now, after walking in on her fiancé holding another woman’s legs in the air and screaming her name, Amber is headed back home to Oakville, ready for a fresh start in the town she’s always loved.
Determined to get back to her life, Amber gets a waitressing job at KC’s Bar & Grille. After a few weeks of working there, she finally sets in to a happy routine with help from her new friend, Holly. That is, until she meets KC, the owner, her boss, and the man who just happens to be the reason she left so many years ago. The man she never got over.
Enter Kyle. He’s sexy, charming, the lead singer of a small town band, and owner of KC’s Bar & Grille. When Amber left all those years ago, he became a shell of the man he was. Broken, confused, and desperate, Kyle began his new life where nothing mattered aside from music and women, sometimes more than one at a time. Finally realizing that he hated the person he was becoming, he moves back to Oakville with his band to focus on the bar. Still playing a few small gigs here and there, Kyle and his band return home after a month only to walk straight into Amber, the girl who broke his heart and left without a word.
With a short, heated conversation revealing that it was all just a misunderstanding, Kyle and Amber are determined to start over again and let the past stay in the past. This is the second chance neither of them dreamed they would get and they aren’t going to waste it. Unfortunately, living in this small town isn’t as safe as it would seem. With people determined to tear them apart and old flings resurfacing, will Amber and Kyle be able to hold onto their second chance? Or will it all slip through their fingers?

Many readers aren’t in the slightest bit bothered about reading the sensitive issue of cheating. Others obviously are. I, for one, believe that as it exists, it’s something to be written about. However, did the heroine of this story really catch her drop-dead gorgeous fiancé out in a more than compromising position? She doesn’t wait around for any explains from him, she knows exactly what to do. She gets on her bike and pretty damn quick!
Amber’s decides to take the bull by the horns and make a new life for herself. And she does but once again, it goes sour. Six years later, and now back in her hometown, she gets a new job, makes a new friend, Holly, and everything looks hunky dory until she is confronted by her new boss… none other than the man from her past. This was the man who she’d loved forever, who’d broken her heart, the man she’d never got over…
When Amber left Kyle years back, he had no idea why. And the only way he knew how to survive was by drowning himself in his sorrows, in drink, in women and in the band where he was lead singer. He too is returning home to Oakville hoping to start afresh because the life he has been leading was consuming him and not in a good way. He wants to put his energy into the bar he owned. Neither Kyle knows Amber is working there, nor does she have any idea who the owner is.
Sparks fly, anger rages, hurt and resentment come to the surface. But their feelings are still there. So they talk things through, decide to get to know each other again, and Amber accepts Kyle’s chequered past. Nevertheless, he’s worried it will come back to haunt him, ruin what they are trying to rebuild. They are happy together. But realising they were meant to be together doesn’t mean things stay that way for long. Past secrets and mistakes come back to the future and threaten to tear down the happiness they are both building for themselves. When Amber is put in danger, will Kyle be able to help her? Will they finally have the life they were always meant to have, or will it be cruelly taken away again? I was rooting for both of them all the way and I thought the author had done a tremendously good job getting their feelings across.
I really enjoyed this book which is told from a dual point of view. This is always a huge plus from me as I feel it adds so much more to the story. And even though I appreciate the opinion of one of all the characters in a story, knowing both sides of the protagonists’ journey in this marvellous read was perfect. Sweet, romantic and at times, very hot! The secondary characters are also interesting to read about, and I hope they too will get their own story. Be warned—this does end in a huge cliffy… but the second and third books are now out so no agonising wait to see what happens next!
After six years of being apart, Amber and Kyle finally found each other again, only to be ripped apart once more by a force they couldn’t control. After a tragic accident that almost takes Amber’s life, she’s left in a hospital without any memory. She doesn’t know who she is, let alone the man that she married and has loved since childhood.
When Amber finally wakes from her coma, Kyle feels like he can breathe again. The hope that he has held onto every day he has sat in the hospital with her has pulled through. They can now push Beau behind them and finally get the happily ever after they deserve. Only, Amber has no idea who he is.
Feeling his hope wither away once more, Kyle sets out and makes it his personal duty to help her remember, or make her fall in love with him again. After all, they have a connection that can pull through anything, and will.
Is their love really enough to conquer even the most difficult and life-altering situations?
Trust is lost, promises are broken, and hearts are shattered.
Will Kyle and Amber be able to withstand the changes ahead of them, or will it tear them apart for good?

What a read! What fantastic characters the author has written about. Saying that, I would strongly advise you to read the first book, First Love, as Amber and Kyle’s love story is not a standalone. Now back together after wasted years, more mature and even surer of their feelings for each other. It looks like there future is all settled until an accident leaves Amber fighting for her life. Kyle feels a surge of relief when Amber eventually comes out of her coma; however, his hopes come crushing down when she doesn’t recognise the man who she’s loved for so long. So Kyle arms himself with determination to help Amber recollect. I asked myself if he would be able to do it.
Amber is confused and scared not knowing who she is. But what she does feel is a strong connection to the man standing before her. As she doesn’t feel threatened, upon release from hospital, she goes home with him. Her determination to get her memory and life back had me literally stuck to the pages, but when she starts to recover my heart broke a little. Tormented with nightmares and headaches, her memories slowly trickle back with the help of Kyle and her friends who guide her through this traumatic experience. Then life hands them another battering of the worst kind. Can they survive another blow? With outside forces still against them, will it be too much to bear this time or will the undying love they have for one another pull them through one last time?
This is the concluding part of Amber and Kyle’s story so no cliffy this time!! I warn you though— it’s a very emotional read which had me blubbering over my kindle screen! I loved the way certain things were written by the author with sensitivity and love and also showing that men can also be ripped apart emotionally when things like this happen. Not just the woman. The rekindled love is hot and they share some tender sweet moments. It’s a roller coaster ride of emotions and some twists and turns before we reach their ending to see if it’s happy or not. Download and see for yourself.

I loved the first two books in the Oakville series and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. If my connection with Amber, Holly’s bestie, was strong, my feeling for this lass who was abandoned at birth ran riot! Get ready to be taken on a rollercoaster ride full of emotions, and get ready a full box of tissues ‘cause you’re going to need them!
Growing up in the foster system and being shoved from one family to another made her miserable. It was as if happiness was out of her reach, that she’d never be loved. Until she met Ray who she married when she left school. This marriage was by no means made in heaven. And if she was going to survive, she knew she’d have to take measures to rebuild her life.
Paul too had an unhappy childhood. He suffers abuse from his father to protect his mother. Devastated by an event which took place in his hometown, he leaves for LA. The next few years are difficult ones for him and realises that if he doesn’t do something about it, he’ll be on the road to becoming much like the person who treated him so badly.
The best thing that ever happened to Paul was when he formed a close friendship with Kyle who we’ve got to know well in the other two stories in this series. Even though this book can be read as a standalone, if you haven’t read them yet, please do as this help you understand all the characters and the flow of the storyline. So, not only do they form a band together, but Paul also gets his act together. The next stop is Oakville, Kyle’s hometown. Happy to be starting his life anew but still wary of getting involved with the opposite sex until… Holly. Sparks fly, the sexual tension, beyond question. Painful pasts had made them build protective walls, so will Holly let Paul in? And can he do the same; have feelings for her? He knows he doesn’t like it when other men shower with attention. However, what he can’t understand is why. Could it be that the man who told himself he’d never love anyone is doing exactly that… falling in love?
The feelings between them grow and these two positively burn for each other. But when the past comes knocking, their relationship will be tested. When all Holly’s fears and demons come back to her present, will she and Paul be able to face them together? Can Paul protect her, and can they finally move on to a bright new future together free of the past?
Their story is told from a dual point of view like in the previous books of the series which I just loved. The way the author rewinds and then fast-forwards from past to present kept me on my toes, too. It’s an emotional read and Kathy did a great job at getting their feelings across. The horrors the characters endure is written carefully and sensitively. You will laugh, cry and be rooting for these two right from the start. Can’t wait to read what Kathy has up her sleeve next!
BARNES & NOBLE (Paperback)
After growing up in Saranac Lake, a small town in upstate NY, Kathy-Jo Reinhart returned to her birth place and where she spent her summers with her grandparents, St. Petersburg, Florida, after graduating High School. The sub zero climate and piles of snow definitely weren’t a loss, in her opinion, and this is where she still resides with her Husband of fifteen years and their eleven year old son, who they lovingly refer to as their miracle baby. A name righteously earned after a very difficult and scary pregnancy with 7 1/2 months on complete bed rest.
By day, she works as an Office Manager for a construction company started by her grandfather and uncle. Like most people, she has a love hate relationship with her job, but cherishes all the years she was able to work side by side with her grandfather before he passed away.
Writing has always been something that she has loved. In school, creative writing was her favorite class. Writing a book was something she had always wanted to do, but was too afraid she didn’t have what it took to make it happen. After going from working sixty hours a week to twenty, she found herself with a lot of extra time on her hands and decided it was time to take the leap. Crossing her fingers and closing her eyes, she jumped into creating the Oakville series and hasn’t looked back.
The first five star review she received after First Love, the first book in the Oakville series, was published, left her speechless, overwhelmed with emotion, and so blown away that someone really liked what she had written. Her initial fears seemed to calm and reassured her that others love her writing just as much as she loves doing it. How it will all turn out, still remains a mystery, but she’s having a blast seeing where these characters will take her.
When she isn’t spending time with her characters, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family, scrapbooking, and doing ancestry research.
