KFF SYNOPSIS

I am that gash in her soul.
Once I loved Grace, really loved her.
And she loved me, and it was so fucking beautiful.
Once.
That pendulum swings to and fro.
We’re here,
and then we’re—
No.
How can that rare beautiful be rendered irrelevant, intangible when I still feel so damn much?
Does all that energy, that glory, that significance simply dissolve?
Turn to smoke?
To nothing?
It can’t. It just can’t.
Are the moments that shape us absolutely random?
Is time not fluid?
I made promises to them, to her.
Especially to her.
Promises I still burn to keep.

The author of Lock and Key has converted me! MC reads aren’t usually my cuppa; however, by the time I got to the end of this compellingly good read, I was leaping up and down for joy. Yeah, I’m also a glutton for punishment regarding happy endings and this read certainly takes the cake! But then it got me thinking… How on earth was she going to write the follow up? I had no idea what was in store for me, so when I turned the first page and saw that R & R was written in first person from Dig’s point of view, my delight was ten-fold. Why you may ask! Well, I’d really fallen hard for this drop-dead gorgeous member of the One-eyed Jack MC club and needless to say, I was in for much, much more in his and Grace’s story.

Rewind! Right back to the beginning of Dig and Grace’s relationship. By doing this, the author not only helped me remember each and every miniscule detail between these two protagonists, but as the story progressed, it also shed light on the finer points in the plot. Actually, when I say two protagonists, I really mean three because we meet up with Miller in part two of the story! God, how I loved this man, too! Considering that two love stories have been woven into different time dimensions, the storyline flows perfectly. Some doubts I’d had about what Dig did or didn’t do in Lock & Key became clear and reading his story again didn’t bother me in the slightest. Far from it. It was an excellent opportunity to get to know his true persona. He reveals his limitless loyalty to an MC club that’s struggling to survive. He reveals his innermost feelings; his chivalry, his total and utter affection for the only woman he has ever cared for. Boundaries never exist. His love, never questionable.

Quote ~ Dig: “Ah, for fuck’s sake. You’re my goddamn first love!”

Cruel past events had robbed Grace of two of the most important things in her world. Her first love and the umbilical cord that could have kept Dig’s physical memory alive. Suffering beyond one’s comprehension, she fought back and made a new life with Miller; nevertheless, it wasn’t as perfect as it should have been. All wasn’t as simple as it seemed. Does the last straw that broke destroy them? Will she be able to overcome her depressive state with the support of loved ones? There was a period of time in the second half of the book when I was most certainly worried. Oh my God, get a man-size handkerchief ready ‘cause I was beside myself in some of the scenes! I likened to Grace’s strength, her devotion, her spunky character in Lock & Key. Her down to earth approach to running a business and the way she handled everyday problems showed me how solid her personality was. I was not ready for the gut-wrenching flashback though. With her insistence, her first husband eventually open ups to her and it is so well written, so damningly explicit, that I cried more!

Quote ~ Grace: “I believe in you. I believe that you would protect me with your life. I believe in the goodness that you keep squashed so damn deep inside. I believe in your loyalty and your smarts and generosity. I believe in you, and most of all, I believe in your love for me.”

Miller! Oh my, oh my! I can see him before my eyes while writing this review. The descriptive writing is so vivid that it was literally like watching a movie and not reading a book! Saying he has the patience of a saint would be putting it mildly. If Dig was Grace’s backbone, he would become her limbs. Her future happiness depended on his comprehension every step of the way.

Quote ~ Miller: “What is it, Grace? You gonna tell me what’s eating you, or you gonna keep walking around in a daze?”

Vig, the VP of the Demon Seeds club who deals in drugs and arms rears his ugly head! And without a doubt, is the root of all evil. Tania, Grace’s bestie, happens to be in the right place at the right time and is going to do her best to get Grace to snap out of her depression. Boner plays a huge part throughout the story, and Wreck, Jump, Butler, Creeper… these few secondary characters I have mentioned here and many more besides, make this read an outstanding one. You will either love ‘em or hate ‘em, but you won’t regret getting to know them!

Quote.
Tania: “She needs to wake the fuck up.”
Miller: “You Tania?” he asked.
Tania: “Yes, I am. Spank her if you have to.”

In spite the fact that I’m not going to breathe a word about the ending, I do recommend three things of much importance. Firstly, read Lock & Key before attempting to read Random & Rare. Secondly, a full box of tissues is by far a better idea than the man-size handkerchief which I remarked about earlier. The author’s dextrous penmanship squeezed my heart to the brink. I hurt, I cried, the brilliant one liners made me smile. And lastly, a fan at hand is a necessity as there’s some scorching hot scenes! So did I get my happy ending? Hmm, you’ll have to read this book to find out!

Ms. Porter. Don’t laugh… I’m lost for words! You are an author par excellence. Your characters are unforgettable, the plot—fast moving, gripping, overwhelming. And believe you me, I never expected so many twists and turns or such a quintessential epilogue. So to simply put my opinion in a nutshell has to be… bravo!

Butler’s quote to Grace is nothing less than perfect: “Aut viam inveniam aut faciam.”

KFF SYNOPSIS

I suppose some of us have to get really dirty before we can become truly clean.

I was allegedly South Dakota’s most famous old lady.
Sixteen years ago I survived my old man’s murder

Never again.
Never again will I surrender my heart.
Never again will I sacrifice to the Club.

But that all changed in one night.

I came home and crashed into him,
and my past and present blew up in my face.
Both of us lonely, running on empty, and unwilling to admit it.

Until now.
Now I feel things I’d forgotten about, want things I’d cut out of my insides.

Love not only stings when you lose it, when it’s ripped away from you.
When it first sinks its teeth in you, it can cut just as raw and sting just as deep.

I’d forgotten that.

Who holds the keys to betrayal? To suspicion? To trust?
To brotherhood? To family?
To redemption and a bleeding heart?
Right now, I just might.

KFF ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Cat Porter was born and raised in New York City, but also spent a few years in Europe, Texas and the suburbs along the way. As an introverted, only child, she had very big, but very secret, dreams for herself. She graduated from college, was a struggling actress, an art gallery girl, special events planner, freelance writer and had all sorts of other crazy jobs all hours of the day and night to help make those dreams come true. She has two children’s books traditionally published under her maiden name. She now lives in Greece with her husband and three children, and freaks out regularly and still daydreams way too much. She is addicted to old movies, the History Channel, her iPad, her husband’s homemade red wine, really dark chocolate, and her Nespresso coffee machine. Writing keeps her somewhat sane, extremely happy, and a productive member of society.
