Now meet Abel Kingdom, the australian gym mogul determined to buy it out from underneath her. On paper they have nothing in common, and when they meet, they have even less. The only thing they DO have is chemistry. Undeniable, rip-my-clothes-off-and-do-me-now-against-the-wall chemistry. He wants her theatre. She wants him dead. :::: KKF’s 5 GENIE-OUS ★ REVIEW ::::

By Rachel McEwan and Sharon Thérèse Nuttall

Everything comes to a standstill when you start reading this book. The originality of the storyline not only results in an unputdownable read, but could also cause sleep deprivation. The adorable characters minus one are easy to relate to, and the dazzling scenario of burlesque theatre captivated us. In fact, it was read in places that cannot possibly be mentioned! I was trying to do the household chores with one hand, and my sister-in-arms, Rachel, was flying over the Atlantic Ocean! It is highly advisable to have a full box of tissues at hand as this love story will leave you in a blubbering mess. Sobs of profound sadness and chuckles of delight are guaranteed. The plot is extremely well thought out with contrasts hitting hard from all angles making you want to start reading as soon as you’ve finished.

Unbeknown to Genie, Abel Kingdom wants to buy a run-down theatre which has been in the Devine family for generations and turn it into a gym. She has yet to be introduced to this drop-dead gorgeous guy who watches her dance provocatively on stage is in her own words, ‘outlandishly beautiful’. That’s putting it mildly! F… tall, strapping and mysterious with an accent difficult to place is flipping ravishing. The author’s description of his physique makes you want to jump into the book and have your way with him. Well, that is exactly how Genie felt. She bumps into him after the show without stage makeup, exotic dancewear or flowing red locks but he doesn’t recognise her. And this folks, is where the show really begins!

Quote ~ Genie: ‘I have a mouth. Kiss it.’

Genie suspects that her uncle, Davey, is up to something. When he eventually confesses, she is devastated as the theatre is all she has ever known, all she has ever wanted. But being the comprehensible and kind-hearted person she is, she grudgingly accepts his wishes. But never doubt Genie’s determination to keep the family business running. Come hell or high water, and with all the odds stacked up against her, the show will go on. Her optimism is of extreme importance in this story. She’ll try her hardest never to let it waver.

Quote ~ ‘… This place is still mine, and I’m not giving it up without a fight.’

‘Fine. Have it your own way, but I should warn you… I don’t fight fair, lady.’

‘Me neither. You haven’t seen the half of me.’

‘Oh I think I have darlin’, along with half with rest of your appreciative audience.’

By now, Abel and Genie have discovered who is who, and neither are at all pleased about it. However, this doesn’t water down the sexual chemistry which palpates to extremes regardless of their moods. Ooh yes, fans are a must here because this is eroticism in the first degree. He’s such a dirty talker with a capital D, too! So why does he do everything in his power to hold back on her while she provokingly invites him only to be rejected time and time again? Never giving in to a constant battle of wits makes them push each other’s boundaries to the limit. Especially his. Furthermore, he can’t fathom out her many facets. One minute the business woman, then the girl next door. Next she’s what he abhors more than anything; a stripper which in his mind equates to being a prostitute something he just cannot abide. The reason for this is made very clear but no we are not letting on! The consequences of her acts will be catastrophic for this explosively sensual couple.

Quote ~ ‘Say something like that to me in public again and it won’t be my tongue in your mouth. It’ll be my cock.’ – Abel

Abel Kingdom is carrying a heck of a lot of personal baggage around with him. Closing open wounds is easier said than done, and one of the main reasons he had travelled from far afield was to face his mother. A heartless woman who has no wish to set aside old grievances whatsoever. She is deceitful and deliberately hurtful. Secretively keeping something back from him will albeit, change the whole scheme of things when he finds out. This’ll literally shatter your heart into pieces. Nope, not letting on what it was either!

There are many details in this read which have to be mentioned. Genie’s bestie, Deanna, is a gem and a half and backs her up throughout the many turbulent events which occur. The Devine Girls in the dance troupe are as sassy as Genie and loyal medulla.

Quote ~ Abel: ‘I’m not anti-love, Genie,’ he said, as the lift jolted into life. ‘I’m just anti-loving you.’

This is one of those reads where you keep checking to see how much you have left to read and believe me it’s in a good way! We just didn’t want to the story to finish, and in the end, it leaves you with a bittersweet taste as all good things must come to an end. You are nicely rewarded at the end with a fabulous epilogue. Can I just say it had us both in tears! After all this couple had gone through, you get a glimpse of their lives few years later and it was absolutely perfect. This book has everything we look for in a great read; laughter, tears and of course we can’t fail to mention the sex scenes, something that Ms French does very well!

The author has gone to town with her descriptive writing. Even though the theatre was falling to pieces, there were times when you could easily imagine the theatre in all its glory. The book vividly comes alive on each page making you feel you like a voyeur witnessing every scene unfolding before your eyes. And we can’t argue with her about the infamous English weather either. She most certainly hit the nail on the head! There is no doubt that this is not your usual lovey-dovey love story. The banter between the two protagonists is cruel, insulting and at times, downright unpleasant. This read has our five star rating as it abounds in sexiness, it’s exhilarating; quintessential!

Oh and Ms French, we have a request! We would love to hear Lizzie’s story. We loved her and feel she has a great story to tell. Just think of the fun she could have in London and the problems she could cause her new family *snort giggle*. One last word from two gals that were bowled over by this read has to be nothing less than BRAVO!
