By Dawn Vickers.

Laurie Hanson is a sweet and kind gal who wants to be independent. Currently out of work, she finds herself struggling but she’s still determined to forge her own life, wanting nothing from her stepfather or the life she lived before. Except the letters from her mother.

Chase Wright is an actor; sexy, hot and he’s almost perfect! Laurie needs a fake fiancé and Chase fits the bill!

Laurie’s mother set a stipulation in her will that a set of letters were only to be released to her if she was engaged by her 23rd birthday. Her stepfather sets out to cause trouble and control everything, so Laurie decides to take matters into her own hands. With the help of her friend, they find and hire Chase to be her fiancé. When Chase arrives at her apartment, she’s blown away by how ridiculously gorgeous this man is! Their relationship begins as a professional agreement but it soon becomes clear he wants more from her. But she’s sticking to her rules. No intimate contact, no kissing, no touching and no future for them as a couple. However, gorgeous Chase is making her think and feel things she doesn’t want to. The chemistry between them is there, and it’s strong. Having to pursue a woman is new territory; something he’s never had to do before! He’s also making her think and feel things she doesn’t want to. The more time she spends with him, the more she’s finding herself drawn to him and harder to resist.

Laurie has past secrets that nobody knows about. Will she learn to trust Chase enough to tell him and can he convince her he’s a good guy? Or is he the good guy he makes out to be? Is he hiding secrets of his own? Something about the inheritance she’s due to receive has people rattled, so why does Laurie badly need the letters, and why was the stipulation written into the will? What role does her stepfather have in all this…?

I really enjoyed this book. The authors kept me guessing with its air of mystery and suspense throughout which always had me feeling things were not as they seemed to be. The relationship between Chase and Laurie builds slowly with lots of sexual tension, albeit it takes a good chunk out of the book before they actually did anything! Jude, Laurie’s best friend, is a great character, and then there’s Clint, the stepfather and his awful girlfriend. What are these two up to? All these questions will undoubtedly have to be answered as it ends on a cliffy! So now we wait for the next instalment!
